Whether you like it or not: Marathon 100% needs a solo queue or mode. Arc Raiders proved it just now with its tech test 2. to think that everyone has friends at the ready at all times is delusional and everyone knows how well randoms work. I love the artstyle and I want this game to succeed, but there must be solo-something. The alternative is to lose even more players to arc raiders.

That's why it's not always solo queue, it tries to solo queue you, but you can still get into trio lobbies, not to mention the proximity chat which allows you to talk things through and team up

That'll likely kill the game in my opinion. Solo only is boring, team only is boring. This game needs unpredictability and excitement. A solo player taking out a team with smart play is exciting. A well coordinated team taking out lots of solo players and other teams is exciting.

I like what I see in Marathon, and have thousands of hours in halo and destiny. But I will not be buying marathon without solo queue. I am completely done with team based games. I mostly play chess now, because my outcome is dependent on me and my mistakes, which I can learn from. I loved Apex, but had to quit because I play solo as I have for my entire life mostly.

I think the biggest issue which makes solo play not viable is that there's so many abilities that can scan out enemies. If your solo and kill a player the chances are the rest of their team are going to kill you. All they have to do is stay together.

When you meet a player in Arc Raiders you don't know who they are. Whether they'll be a friend/foe or on their own or with backup. Its all unknown and adds to the tension. You could find a new ally or a deadly enemy. In Marathon you're either in a good team and have an advantage or you're not. There's no mystery, no tension. You just kill over and over.

The problem is not seeing more things, the problem comes with PvP fights

They've made the world very immersive with lots of nice little touches(birds fly away to show enemy positions), the AI enemies are very cool and can be a big threat. The most important thing though is that you never what to expect when you encounter other players. Its not always just a case of killing the first one you meet. World traversal feels really nice too.

idk if id say more forgiving, arc is mainly gonna be for those who like to take things slow and not push anything super aggressively, its very hard to snowball in that game compared to marathon mainly because the ttk is so inconsistent in arc raiders, green shields gave 23% EHP where as just the next level gave double the EHP at 45%. very big jump in gear in arc raiders. marathon will have more outplay ability making it easier to snowball and kill people with better gear.
