anybody know how to fix the game freeze while joining?
I've been playing multiplayer for a while with relatively few problems, but yesterday and today I have problems galore. On first attempt (both days) my client crashes after I click to connect to the server. On subsequent attempts I can connect, but I'm playing with varying degrees of lag, and frequently dropping connection. My server is running on another PC in my house. My friend who lives some distance away has not been having these issues (on my server). I'm very confused.
Hey everyone, my friends and I can't connect to the server at the same time. One of us lost a level 11 character, and we can't open chests, use our inventory, harvest resources, etc. on the map. Everything is just broken. But when we log in alone, offline, everything is fine. Is everyone else having this problem, or is it just us? It's weird that three of us are having the same problem, but only one person's character was deleted.

Hey, so I haven't been able to find anything that addresses this specific issue (if I missed it, please just point me at the resource/link), and I'm hoping one of y'all can help. My husband normally plays Windrose on his desktop PC. Recently, he took his laptop on a work trip and installed the game, but he couldn't access his original character or world due to internet issues, so he made another one on the laptop. Now he wants to be able to play both from his desktop, but it's like the two games exist in parallel, instead of on the same account. Is there a good way to transfer that character/world without erasing the existing one?
our Dedicated Server reset to Day 1 after the host crashed. We downloaded the backup from Steam Cloud and replaced the files in both AppData and the server folder, but the server keeps ignoring them and loads a fresh world anyway. Does anyone know how to force it to read our old save? Thanks!

We played with a friend on the server, it froze and crashed, we went out, restarted, and the friend lost the character save, even in the save folder there is no character. We've decided it, now we either can't go to each other's server, or if it worked, we can't take weapons and resources, and the damage on npc is delayed, in general, it's impossible to play.
According to your delay on the enemy damage, it's highly likely a ping problem. Did you use a dedicated server or just connect to your friend's world directly?
as per the docs, the server needs the RocksDB_v2_Backups folder too, specifically the file that ends in _Latest.zip. Also, WorldIslandId in ServerDescription.json must match the ID from the desired world in the Worlds folder.
Hey, I bought the game today and was enjoying myself in solo mode for about 5 hours, I closed the game and went ahead and made some food and when I came back to play the game I had to create a new character/world again. So went ahead to FAQ (https://playwindrose.com/faq/#faq-saves-ingame) I have now been trying to play the game for 30 mins, first trying to make sure it saves my char/world, after doing the 3 blocks and I spawn into the world, I quit to menu, I still see my char and world, I close and re-open the game and I have to remake a new char and world.. anyone ever ran into this issue before? Basically my character and world do not get saved I have already tried the things in the FAQ and turned off steam cloud and such.
Bought the game yesterday and was playing no problem, then suddenly today out of the blue I can´t get into my saved game. I manage to create a new one but it´s seems my save is ruined. The game just freezes. Is there any solution to this?

my friend is having trouble launching the game. After clicking play on steam black screen flashes for 2 seconds then crash to desktop. We've tried verifying game files, running game properties with -dx12, downgrading nvidia driver, restarting computer. Pc spcs are good. 64gb of ram and rtx 3080. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Edit: We went into the came config ini and set the fullscreen=0 to windowed full screen (=1) and now it's working. He was never able to launch in the first place though so we had to edit this through the config ini directly

hey all , just started a hosted server from the host a server option in the main menu today, im facing an issue that when my cousin joins my server, he is on a different network to me he can play on my server for a random amount of time before he gets a random kick back to the menu, but no error codes or messages are shown, just wondering if anyone else has had this issue and knows a fix?

Anyone has problems with creating a dedicated server with a local save world, and the game decides to load in my world from a month ago? (26 april) ? Whatever I tried (steam cloud download etc, etc, resync forcing) it still gives me the savegame of 26/4 instead of today.

i downloaded my server from a dedicated server, but when i try to use it offline the server is not appearing even tho i just copied the whole file, is there any specific setting that gotta be used?
On the server, inside the folder R5/Saved/SaveProfiles/Default/RocksDB_v2/0.10.0/Worlds there's each world save folder.
They are named with a unique ID, that's the WorldID. If there are multiple folders, the one that you probably want is the folder using the most storage.
You also need a matching file inside R5/Saved/SaveProfiles/Default/RocksDB_v2_Backups/Worlds/<WorldID>/<WorldID>_0.10.0_Latest.zip. The last game update made this file the source of truth.
Stop the server before making any changes. Then, ensure WorldIslandId in R5/ServerDescription.json matches the <WorldID> from before.
I recommend you download the whole R5/Saved/SaveProfiles folder, save a backup elsewhere, then transfer back to the server only the folder/file selection that matters, deleting the legacy R5/Saved/SaveProfiles/Default/RocksDB and R5/Saved/SaveProfiles/Default_Backups/ folders.
Also, you said you downloaded the Steam Cloud save...? The guides involving Steam Cloud generally are related to local worlds or characters only.
Perhaps you are overriding the dedicated server save with a blank save from your local game instance...?
If you are running "Windrose Dedicated Server" directly from Steam or are renting the hosting from some provider, do not mix the local save files with the server ones. You can migrate data between instance kinds if you need, but it's not super straightforward.
you also need the backup folder. Read the first part of my last comment.
Having some difficulty logging into my dedicated server its been fine for a month, but now when trying to log in the logs grows to like 300000 lines of loading items and the client refueses to connect.

Hey, I wanted to ask if the following issues with dedicated servers and savegames are already known on your side, because we are currently experiencing them quite heavily on our community servers.
Here are the main problems we noticed so far:
- Savegames can suddenly become corrupted
- Servers sometimes generate a completely new world instead of loading the existing one
- The wrong world may load if the
WorldIslandIddoes not exactly match the savegame folder name - Servers occasionally stop saving correctly even while still running normally
- Some backups become unusable or incomplete
- The current savegame structure seems extremely sensitive
- Heavy player traffic and many simultaneous logins appear to increase instability significantly
- Servers sometimes crash immediately after startup
- Servers can disappear or shut down outside scheduled restart times
- The dedicated server executable itself currently seems quite unstable under heavy load
- Even with a working backup system, corrupted saves often cannot be recovered properly
ServerDescription.jsonand especially theWorldIslandIdare critical for proper world loading- The newer backup ZIPs inside
RocksDB_v2_Backupsnow also seem to be required for successful world recovery - Mixing local saves with dedicated server saves can easily break worlds or create new ones unexpectedly
I am currently rewriting large parts of my own server management app to work around these issues more safely, including strict WorldIslandId verification before and after startup.
At the moment, managing Windrose savegames feels extremely fragile compared to most other dedicated server games I have worked with over the last 15 years.
Are these issues already known internally, and are there any recommendations or best practices you would currently suggest for dedicated server administrators?

I have a server that is hosted through Nitrado. I was wondering if there is a way to remove something that was built in a discoverable place. Players have to use the rope to go through the hole but it is unusable because someone built a rock wall too close to the rope on the inside so no one else is able to access and obtain the chests in the hole/cave.
Is there any way for one of your developers to issue a hotfix to remove things that are built in quest/discovery locations?

I need help. I opened my world with a friend and we wanted to go shopping. I took the money, we teleported together by mistake, and my account didn't load; the screen went black and I had to restart. When I logged in, the money I had taken was gone from the till, and there was nothing in the till or on the floor. Is there any way to recover the money by rewinding time?
is it possible to make the game run on Vulkan? I had another game recently that crashed randomly that after swapping from d3d12 or whatever its called to vulkan ive had no issues, but idk if the game supports that 🤔
I'm not sure if this is the place to put it, or if it has already been addressed and I missed it, but we're having a major issue with lag around our builds.
Me and two other people have basically formed a triangle with our bonfire circles, and we've built the equivalent of a very detailed small pirate town that continues to get filled out and detailed further. The issue is, when we're there, all the placed pieces create a LOT of lag. I was wondering if there is a quick fix for this issue, or if it is something that will be addressed in future updates.
Having the same issue today with my server, and it seems to be a reoccurring issue. We have had to roll back our server several times. If we have to do that again today then I'm done. Game seems to need time to solve whatever the save corruption issues are. I understand Early access, but when we can't log in and lose progress over and over again it is basically unplayable.

I just purchased Gportal for the game but it seem to not load into it.
I go through the process of IP address an everything and it trys to load but boots back to the menu.

Dealing with the same thing on Bisect. It isn't their server host, but the game. I don't have a solve for you. Just here to say I have been fighting this for weeks. I am saving my files today and shutting down for good.
Has anybody found a solution for being booted back to menu when joining my dedicated server? It seems a DNS firewall thing but I've tried a lot of options with no luck.
I joined mine fine this morning, joined a friend's to check on something, now when coming back to mine I can't join it even though my friends can no problem. I just go straight to menu everytime after a loading screen
Oddly I was able to resolve it by reverting to a player back up from last night.
Something ive noticed is that this has happened twice now after joining another friends server. It seems to corrupt my character.
I figured it out. Change the settings from IP host to invite code.

Hosted a new world yesterday all day, zero time-outs or disconnects or any problems but the moment my cousin joined, randomly throughout the day he would get booted back to the main menu with no errors or warnings, this happened at complete random times, anyone had this?
We host a dedicated server, I bumped it to 10 players and our biggest issues is that quests are not tracked on the map anymore. We have a compass bug, but if we unstuck at a tent, the compass is fixed. we have about 15 players, 8 usually online. performance is fine.
My dedicated server decided to stop launching today, it runs through the initiation steps in the terminal before closing itself down

hey all, im currently trying to transfer a save file from one version of the game to another, just for solo play no servers, I go into appdata and locate the R5/SAVED/SAVEDATA etc and I found my world folder no problem but the only thing is once I transfer this folder into the version I need it just doesnt show up anywhere and im unsure on how to proceed, if anyone could help id really appreciate it I have quite a bit of playtime and would hate to lose it
I have a friend that sent me his "world" file stamped almost a month ago. He just zipped up his folder and sent it to me. %LOCALAPPDATA%\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles. He confirms the server is working, just loading an old save and not recent. Do I need to have him turn off Steam cloud?
I notied is says the folder for the save file hasn't been modified but if you dig into the folder and look at the actual world file it should be dated properly

Can we please get some kind of official acknowledgement on the dedicated server login issue?
For well over a week now, multiple players running dedicated servers have been reporting the same pattern across bug reports, game support, and tech support:
Players either cannot join dedicated servers at all, or after the server has been running for a while, anyone who leaves cannot get back in. When they try, the game acts like it is loading, then kicks/boots them right back to the main menu.
For some servers, restarting temporarily lets people back in. For others, even restarting the server does not fix it.
This is not just one person’s setup. It keeps coming up from different server owners, and the reports seem to get buried or glossed over while other questions are answered.
Even a simple “we know this is an issue and are investigating” would help a lot. Right now it feels like dedicated server players are being ignored, and restarting servers over and over is not a real workaround, especially when it does not even work for everyone.
How do i import my in game created co-op world to dedic? (with everything structures. Structure completion etc. Cant seem to get it done working.)
This is some good feedback seldom seem, detailed toward those servers that are running a decent higher pop server over time.

game was working perfect before latest patch. I could login for a few mins today... and then when my friend joined via external to my dedicated, I crashed. Something to do with networking ... but also, I would crash on my own as well so what do I know.

the true price of early access. Palworld was similar in some ways.... where they didn't even have automatic backups when the dedicated server was up and running. I had to make my own.... except I could at least join my own dedicated server at all times LOL unlike this game

I had to leave a negative review on Steam for Windrose.. .sadly. I didn't want to but heck no acknowledgement, no fixes, and a handful of users are affected now. it's only growing too. This game has so much potential, hence i'm still checking this discord for solutions every day
I do hope someone from Kraken looks up, and helps out here, I have been watching people come here and say the same issues you have listed. Just not something I've had to deal with, so I don't have suggested fixes. I've been unable to replicate as well, (not that I want to miss lead and say I've spent a great deal of time on it or anything)

I'm using the same parts, same computer... with an added SSD right now. That added SSD is old and it's running my windows OS that i reinstalled...
I can't place a heavy load on my computer like I used to. I can still play games fine but anything like ffmpeg file conversion is out of question

I have the same SSD, you ran about 4 times my hours, and my writes total just under 2.5TB on my drive (in a total of 316 days power on time). I've had this system since July '24 and never really install anything on the C: ...
I got numerous other NvME's and RAID0 Game drives. So the majority of that writes was due to Windrose's save writes, inside of %localappdata% (out side of windows system) and your hours would be "roughly 4 times mine. (Out side of the relative age and write you had previously ofc)
So you would've had ~9Tb +/- [1-2TB] of writes depending on your system writes, as well as mine.

i mean.. when i scan my drive now, it still says it's 100% healthy. It's odd. The error via SanDisk Dashboard only came up once in scans. It hasn't occurred since and I've scanned it 4 more times after that.
So now when i'm installing new things, i'm not sure if it's my RAM or SSD but both are faulty to some degree

I'm using an Asrock B650M Pro RS with Wifi motherboard... the WD SN850X is sitting right under that heatsink that comes with the motherboard. I read there are some issues with WD SN850X I feel like there's a ton of user posts when you google for it but could just be some kind of uh... bias. "search for it and you'll find it" kind of bias.

mods solve this, (and my best advise is be very picky about your mod installs)
I do not recommend running any RE4SS dependent mods, including Windrose Plus, or server managers dependent on it
UE4SS mods are just not stable and can wreck your server/saves

that's what i run on 7 servers, 5 Windows VM's (differing OS versions including Win 8.1 Enterprise / Server / ect.) 2 unRaid dockers, and 2 Linux docker systems in my self hosted datacenter
Some are server only, some require client as well, I place both b/c it doesn't hurt. Nexus has the install instructs typically on the mod descript page. all are found on Nexus
if there is a duplicate, it's a mistake, this is not the live files, so if you see two of the same pick one
Also ima ditching the dedic server idea. I tried using the guide and still loaded into empty / new map. Only thing that transfered is inv : D
the .json, are v important, as well as the RockDB_v2_backups
it's all about placing the right files in the right places.

all gear levels matter, weaps for damage, gear for defense
Tier is not about power, that's level, when you tier up you add abilites to gear / weapons

Attribute stats scale Baddly after 20. Endur / Vigor are where you want to dump stats, after you pick your favorite weaps and put stats to 20 on their attribute requirements.

10 is gonna be soft cap i believe

So, every time my server runs, it resets the json to default values. I'm trying to change the difficulty a little, and nothing is working. Tried editing the json, tried the server manager, neither of them actually manage to adjust the difficulty at all. Any suggestions, please?

Basically need to recreate the pre-patch file structure and edit the config there because that's where the game is actually looking for the settings 😞
I think you have to enter the world ID and the seed in your server settings.
the instructions mention literally nothing about a seed, its mentions the worldid, which is pasted in the places it told me to put it.

For future readers looking for a solution to this what I found also worked was stopping the server, editing the .json file in the V2 backup zip file it creates and restarting the server. It seems to repopulate the live directories from the latest backup at startup.
Ahoy! I need some help with something related to a multiplayer server a friend of mine is hosting.
We're a group of 4 players and we started a playthrough together on a server hosted by a friend. This was before the first patch was released. Everything ran smoothly. During the times we couldn't play together I had made two characters to play on my own and experiment with the game but I ended up deleting them
When the first patch released and the games updated, the first thing that welcomed me was a message that two unknown character files got corrupted and the only course to take was to delete them, so since I only had two active characters (one of them being for the co-op playthrough) I called the server host and sent him a backup of my character files. We later learned that the issue was because of leftover files of the previously deleted characters so we just got rid of those files with the in-game prompt to do so and moved on
Now here is our problem. When we log back in the server, the game refuses to have us both logged in at the same time. As soon as I enter the server my friend's game freezes and he has to forcefully close it. This doesn't happen with our other two friends and him, only between him and me. We suspect it is related to the character backup files. I don't know if there are devs in here that read these but please if anyone knows what's going on here or what to do let me know! I love this game to bits and playing it with my friends is a dream come true but we currently cannot play due to this issue

Guysd, I have a problem that has probably been annswered a million time. But I am tgrying to transfer my sazve to my nitrado server. I have tried every which way, but it always loads up a REALLY old version of the world and not the most recent, even though when i go on to my solo/offline it loads the most recent. Any help would be great. Been at this for days.
Maybe your friend mixed up your local data with his and/or the server. It could also be data corruption caused by some mod.
Make sure no directories named Players and Accounts exist in the server R5/Saved/SaveProfiles/Default/RocksDB_v2/0.10.0 directory, just in case. Those should exist only in the local client data.
If that's not the case, try creating a new character.
We were checking the files a few minutes ago and apparently he still had my character backup files in the folder despite deleting them with the ingame prompts to delete corrupted save files. The log for the server also showed that when he tried going in the server the game loaded my characters ID and we assume that the game cannot handle two players with the same character IDs
I was looking everywhere for that report to link!! I didn't realize it was in a different channel. Those are the instructions I actually followed (from md file)
He deleted the files so later we'll try and see if it worked. If not we'll try this, thanks for the reply!

Stop the server, remove its old data directories, then send only RocksDB_v2 and RocksDB_v2_Backups from your client to R5/Saved/SaveProfiles/Default.
Make sure ServerDescription.json has a WorldID matching the directory name from R5/Saved/SaveProfiles/Default/RocksDB_v2/0.10.0/Worlds/<WorldID>.
Then, start the server again.

Accounts and Players don't belong on the server. Leave them alone on your machine.
The server will only load an old save if it's available and unable to load the new one. That's why you should do a cleanup on the server and send only the files it needs. Remember to always stop it before messing with data.
As an extra step to the official guide, you can try removing R5/Saved/SaveProfiles/Default_Backups from the server. This is where old backups were stored.

Good Morning. After the update today I updated my server directory, launched the server and went into the game. I am on some random island. Map fog is 100% now all my fast travel locations are gone. Has anyone else experienced this? This happened to me on day 2 so it wasn't a big deal but I am WEEKS into my game and I cannot start over.

This just fixed me. I was having the same problem. A friend sent me his saved world, I copied his A5DAC..... to the server, started it, but it was an "old" world with file timestamps from almost a month ago. I found the newer timestamped files, stopped the server, deleted A5DAC... folder, re-uploaded the newer timestamped files, started the server but it was still loading the "old" world. I had to stop the server, delete the ../Default/RocksDB_v2/{version}/Worlds/A5DAC.... and ../Default/RocksDB_v2_Backups/{version}/Worlds/A5DAC.... in order for the server to rebuild/re-copy his world and now it's running his latest world.
See my explanation above. I had to remove the world from both RocksDBv2 and RocksDB_v2_Backups from the server, upload his world from RocksDB_V2 of the zip he sent me, as they had a more recent timestamp than his RocksDB folder
Let the server create the ../Default/RocksDB_v2/{version}/Worlds/{WorldID} and ../Default/RocksDB_v2_Backups/{version}/Worlds/{WorldID} folders, but make sure the RocksDB/{version}/Worlds/{WorldID} has the latest timestamped files. After today’s dedicated server update, my server’s ServerDescription.json started pointing to a new world with no progress. After I manually changed it back to my original world, I found that the latest progress was gone and the world had rolled back to a much older state, close to two weeks earlier.
I would like to ask whether there is any way to recover the missing progress or restore the world to its latest state.

Hello, I apologize if this is the wrong place to ask but I am tapped out. My son tried to make a new character so he can start over but it wasnt working. We got to the point of deleting his character and starting from scratch but it just kept loading him into a blank open ocean. Tried to uninstall and reinstall the game but the same thing keeps happening. Even if he tries to load into my world. Any thoughts on what I can try. Thanks.

Start menu > Run > %localappdata% > R5 > Saved . It's either in the Logs folder or Crashes folder. Sometimes a crash doesn't generate a crash log so try the Logs folder

I didn't have high hopes after the last two updates hosed my dedicated server, but since I have been backing up my R5 folder every single day after playing I decided to roll the dice. Everything's OK. I suggest everyone learn how to back up the R5 folder and restore the world and save files. There are some good pinned posts. It also helps to understand how the manifests files work, but if you have a known-good save you can usually recover.
I agree. I didn't realize how frugal the backup system is and wish I had backed up the folder regularly manually until they allow us to customize the backup.

Hello! I've been playing on a server my friend created for a few weeks. I turned the game on an hour ago and the server under "Recently Played" is greyed out and when I try searching for it with the invite code it comes back server not found. I tried turning off advanced security and port forwarding in my ISP app, used VPN and still not working. Any idea how to make the server work?

YO HO. I seem to run into a problem with my dedicated server. I keep creating a new world every time i start it. Even after making sure that the World ID match in the Json files. Any ideas??
since the update last night/early morning, i keep getting game lockups when using fast travel to port hubs no issues with my bell fast travels, only set port ones. port in and as soon as i move, game locks up. have to restart pc from windows screen to close the game. cant use any menus, folders, etc have to hard reset every time

So my son tried to make another character but it wasn't working. Decided to start fresh and delete his character and make a new one. But now any time he loads into ANY world he is loaded into the open ocean. I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice. I have turned off cloud sync and reset. But nothing works he is left in the open ocean and we can click anything or open any menus. Any help or tips? Thanks

So the new update has generally fixed logging into the game with Frame Gen enabled, however fast traveling to or loading the Tortuga area (and I would suspect the naval Brethren of the Coast base too, since it happened there once) with frame Gen results in the hard crash requiring a task manager force close of the game.

We have an issue during connecting to other player.
The player's character who is connecting appears in the host world and even can control it and hear sounds.
But still having a leading screen and can't play fully.
Required to force stop the game and restart couple times.
Any thoughts how to avoid this?
I currently can't load the game. Launched the game via steam, via desktop, as admin, but game won't start.
Tried uninstalling and reinstalling.

Yep. Verified files, uninstall, reinstall, mimicked my VM settings as the previous install. Maybe I should downgrade to Windows pro instead of Enterprise
ehh i doubt that'd be the issue, all enterprise does is open up more configs for the user really.. I'd try reinstalling graphics drivers and then just nuking all files and do a clean reinstall

I'm new to Windrose, and I'm hoping you guys can help me out. Basically, Windrose keeps crashing on me whenever I acquire new items—for instance, just a little while ago, after I built my first ship, I boarded it intending to sail to the doctor, and bam—it immediately crashed and kicked me out. Also, sometimes I can't even launch the game at all and actually have to restart my PC. Maybe one of you knows what's going on? 😅

If you are hosting the server you need to update the server but seems how you mentioned client. That means your server has not been updated as of the other day

Okay a few things. I suggest switching over your driver to the studio driver instead of the game ready driver as they are tested more and worked out all the kinks. The next thing I would do is check and see if your chipset driver is currently up to date. The next thing would be that check and see if your windows has an update. They came up with a new security update recently. And last but not least, update also came out for the redistributables and the c+ runtimes
I am having issues with creating a dedicated server running on a VM. Me and Friend have started on a his local machine, but want to move it to a dedicated server. I have installed using steamCMD . I have copied over the World folder to C:\windroseserver\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles\Default\RocksDB_v2\0.10.0\Worlds. I have edit the ServerDescription.json to use the newly copied world folder. Everytime i start the server up it does not load this world. It creates a new one. Can anyone please help?

Open a powershell as administrator and then type
Winget upgrade --all
That will let you know what is updated and what is not
Classic World ID mismatch! The server ignores your world and creates a new one when the World ID inside the save folder doesn't match what's in ServerDescription.json (and sometimes a second config file in Saved\Config\WindowsServer\ too).
Open the meta file inside your copied world folder, grab the World ID GUID, and make sure ServerDescription.json has that exact same value. Also double-check that the folder name itself matches the ID if required.

Yes, that's the one! The World ID GUID in your WorldDescription file (inside the copied world folder) is the value everything else needs to match.
So to verify the chain is correct:
- WorldDescription file inside the world folder - this is your source of truth, grab the GUID from here
- ServerDescription.json - the WorldId field needs to be that exact same GUID
- The world folder name itself - on dedicated servers Windrose sometimes expects the folder to be named after the World ID GUID, not a custom name
If all three match and it's still generating a new world, also check that there isn't a duplicate/leftover world folder sitting next to yours in that Worlds directory. If the server sees two folders and neither name matches cleanly, it may just spin up a third. Clean out any auto-generated ones and restart fresh.

Double check that you're updating App ID 4129621 (dedicated server) and not 4129620 (the game client). That's the #1 cause of version mismatch when SteamCMD "updates" but the version doesn't budge. Run app_update 4129621 validate to force a full file check. If it's still stuck after that, delete the steamapps folder in your server directory and update fresh. That clears out any stale manifest SteamCMD might be hanging ont

The 4129621 error you got is because that's a Steam depot ID, not an app ID. It will always fail with "No subscription," so just ignore that one entirely.
The real issue is that SteamCMD says it "fully installed" 4129620 but the build is still old. This happens when SteamCMD's local manifest gets out of sync and it thinks the files are already current when they're not. The validate flag checks file integrity against what it thinks is the right version, but if the manifest itself is stale, it's validating against the wrong target.
Your instinct is right. Delete the steamapps folder inside your SteamCMD/server directory (not your main Steam install, just the one where the server lives)

I deleted the steamapps folder, did the app_update, and again - server and client mismatch. Client is 10.6 something, dedicated is still 10.5

i have matched the GUID which i am guess is the "islandId": to the folder name. and the serverdescirption.json and it still keeps creating a new one every time. I have also made sure no LOCK file is found as well.

How are you running your server? Windows, docker, Linux,?
I know in the docker container the steamcmd update breaks itself often. ESPECIALLY if your not running the validate flag.
The only way to force it update is to clear the appmanifest_4129620.acf in the \\steamapps\ directory. This forces revalidation of SteamCMD updater
Just steamcmd in Windows, I wasn't able to get the docker running, but it fixed itself as soon as I did force_install_dir and deleted appmanifest 😄 😄

@marsh glen this is a fwiw. I had a situation with this last update where simply deleting that appmanifest file didn't stop it from puking when I tried to update with steamcmd. It simply wouldn't work at all until I installed it into a new directory. Once I did that, I was able to moved the old save game stuff back in and it ran with no issues. This is on win11, no mods, following the dedicated server guide for steamcmd exactly (path was different, but full commands listed there otherwise). Took me quite awhile of banging my head against the wall before I gave up and approached it that way, just kept getting "Error! App '4129620' state is 0x6 after update job." when I ran the app_update, even after clearing that appmanifest_4129620.acf file.
again, new update (yesterday) and again the game cant load in
endless loadscreen, then the message "program not responding. sorry."...

The world is the right seed sometimes, but never has anything on it
You must copy the WorldID from the folder name to the field in the json file, never the other way around. Also, make sure you copied RocksDB_v2_Backups too. It's the source of truth.

Not sure where to ask about this exactly, but does anybody know of a way for me to fix this error screen I get on game startup? Clicking the confirm button does not do anything, and the game will just sit on this screen forever.
The only fix I've found so far is that I can run Steam as an administrator on my pc and then this screen won't show up, but I don't want to have to do that every time I want to play. Is there a way I can give the game permanent access to whatever folder it needs or something?

The other thing is says is STEAMOS 3.0
but here's the thing- when I run it solo there's no problems, some stutters but I can deal with that- it doesn't crash at all.
But when I co-op and host it crashes within 30 seconds, even if no one is in the session besides myself.
Before the big update they did a few weeks back we were able to play through until we got into the deep seas where it would crash.

Its the same thing for server owners trying to run in docker / Linux. Once you take that unofficially supported leap, you best be a server admin, and have some Administration , debug, and troubleshooting knowledge. (at least know how to do a search, on at the very least the days history,.. but I digress...)

I just find it so funny that we could at least play in co-op stable enough to travel the islands then after that update now I don't even need someone to jump into my co-op game just running one crashes to desktop
Try changing the Proton runner to GE-Proton or Proton-CachyOS.
I finished all the content playing on Linux, and also ran a dedicated server on Linux. Had a few issues, but they were all game-related and were solved with updates.
If you are hosting co-op sessions, it could be a RAM constraint.
People joining will demand more resources, and most Linux distros don't enable swap or zram by default, causing processes to be killed when the system runs out of RAM.
Not sure if SteamOS has any out-of-the-box adjustments to that.

I have been hosting the game with a friend, and recently I have not been able to load the game. The loading map comes up and after a few second I get kicked back to the main menu. I am able to load it in solo play, but not host it. Does anyone know how to fix this? I've tried looking for Force Relay Connection, but can't find it.

ok I have just got a server and I went on with my level 9 character that has been on a few other servers np. However when i tried to access boxes the server would crash. created a new one and all is ok any reason?
likely caused by server mods. Some adjustments can break your character's save. Try using an unmodded server with a new character
well it seems to have resolved its self now went with new character and did stuff etc . went back in with old character and no crashes now touch wood
u have to fix these many gamecrashes when fast traveling is used...1 in 10 times the game is crashing

From what I've seen, not a lot of reports for crashes when fast traveling. Doesn't seem to be one of the wide spread issues. If it were me, I'd be looking into my own R5.logs, on my client/server to see what could be an indication of root cause of the crash.
IMO I suspect something more related to client/server hardware/drivers rather than the game itself. Otherwise, I'd suspect we'd see a lot more of similar reports. (maybe I've just missed them, but certainly have seen reports in mass of other crashes).
My screen freezes every few second and it even stops my mouse moving if i am tabbed out every few seconds. Any ideas?

One thing to check is your drivers are updated. Also google tends to point towards background processes.
Yeah done all the drivers and closed as many things as i could. Thought it might be like an anti cheat from another game causing issues 🙁

I'm personally still running Nov '24 Nvidia drivers, on my 4090.

Did you thoroughly read, and follow the steps outlined by Kringle here #🚧│tech-support message step by step, and double check you accurately did so? There were a couple users that did these incorrectly, and did not resolve their issue until realizing they didn't follow the step correctly/read completely, (this also applies to the pinned guide)
For clarification I only emphasize this because your exact issue has been resolved countless times with the information in the pin, so in the interest of time, I just have to double check.

You tried removing the RocksDB_v2 and RocksDB_v2_backups folders and placing your WorldID folder in RocksDB then start server to force a reimport of your saved data?

Alternatively, remove the _Backups dir and just rename the RocksDB_v2 to RocksDB making sure the save data is under that v2 dir pre-rename (or after)

Hey, I'm on PC and I used to play on one dedicated server with my friends, then i switched to a different dedicated server for one session to play with some other friends and now i can't join my first server no more, it just says unable to connect, i can't even start a offline/solo game no more, the loading screen just freezes. This problem occurred before the last update already and hasn’t changed with the last update.

Scenario: Dedicated server using SteamCMD moved to Nitrado not pulling current world state
Situation: Due to ISP issues, I've decied to move to Nitrado. I've followed Nitrado's instructions (to my knowledge) and copied our RockDB vis WinSCP. The issue is I can load my old dedicated server (the world I copied over to Nitrado) with the current "save state". When I launch the server on Nitrado, it's pulling up a "save state" from a few weeks ago. What am I missing?

See if there is a ~mods folder, and if it has contents. If there is the sever is, running mods, and more than likely one or more of them are in conflict / broken. (or you are missing the mod file on your client)

Hello, I have a dedicated Nitrado Server. I'm trying to migrate it to a solo save. I have located the Save in the Worlds folder, when I tried to move it to my %Localappdata etc etc etc 0.10.0 folder there was no "worlds" folder. I made the worlds folder and loaded the save into it, but on game start I see this.

Your steam never closed Windrose properly. -> Task Manager -> Force Steam to Close -> Open Steam Again -> An update should be now available for Windrose (worked for me)

If after trying those 2 it still doesn't work, perhaps waiting for a patch/fix will be your last option
I turned off cloud sync, backed up my local profile, deleted the existing folder, ran the game, made a new character, exited, then went copied my local profile back over, booted up the game, my character was there, tried entering, stuck on loading screen.

If the verification finishes, finds no errors, and you still infinite-load with this exact same log, this is a developer-side patch error.
Your best option left would definitely be to try to uninstall/install back the game

Vibe Tech Support, Vibe Server Administration are not a thing,.. As much as people want them to be, they're just are not. You linked a Gemini AI solution for Error codes that the AI Chat bot doesn't even recognize are errors because the log file is spiting out error library calls that are on the development machine, and not on local clients. It's already been discovered and addressed the verbosity of the log output is misleading because it includes these calls that could only be answered on the development machines with access to those development libraries. So when sifting through the logs, you kinda have to know what is a valid error being reported and what is not.
Because of this alone, I throw my hands up and say good luck to the OP I'm not gonna "compete" to help,.. I've already spent enough time the past 3 weeks solving problems for countless users.
You are absolutely right about one thing: LineBatchComponent is an editor-only development library that doesn't exist on local clients.
However, your conclusion that this makes it a 'harmless verbose log' is completely backwards. That missing library is exactly why this is a fatal client-side error.
In Unreal Engine 5, if a developer accidentally leaves a debug node (like drawing a line using LineBatchComponent) inside a core blueprint (like BP_Ship_Frigate_Default) and pushes it to a packaged shipping build, the client tries to execute it. Because the local client doesn't have those dev libraries, it throws a Missing Dependency and fails the CreateExport.
The blueprint fails to compile and load on the player's machine, and the game engine gets stuck in an infinite loop waiting for a primary asset that will never spawn.
It is not just 'misleading verbosity'—it is an unhandled exception caused by a dirty compile. The log isn't spitting out harmless dev calls; it is explicitly telling us why the local client is hanging. But I appreciate the 'good luck'!

Turn that off. restore a previous character save, and load in, if it loads correctly, log out, turn cloud save back on, and when prompted choose local files, over cloud files when launching, after that sync, you can turn cloud save back as the primary if prompted again

Now, open the RocksDB_v2_Backups folder right below it.
Inside, you will see folders named with dates and times. Find the most recent one from before your game started infinitely loading.
Copy that entire dated folder.
Go back out to your main Steam ID folder (where RocksDB_v2_BROKEN is) and Paste the folder there.
Finally, rename that pasted folder to exactly RocksDB_v2.

Double-click the .zip file of the backup you want to use.
Inside the zip, you should see a standard folder (it usually has the date/time as the name).
Copy that folder out of the zip file.
- Paste and Rename
Go back out to your main Steam ID folder (the one where you just renamed RocksDB_v2 to _BROKEN).
Paste the folder you just copied out of the zip file.
Right-click that newly pasted folder and rename it exactly to: RocksDB_v2
Make sure when you open your new RocksDB_v2 folder, you immediately see the game's actual save files/folders (like Players, etc.). If you open RocksDB_v2 and just see another folder inside it, you have a 'folder-in-a-folder' situation and the game won't read it. The engine needs direct access to the save files!"
This walks him right through the extraction pitfall. Once he does this, he should finally be back in the game!

RocksDB (the database system Unreal Engine uses for these saves) creates safe backups by taking a snapshot of your live data. In database terms, this snapshot is literally called a Checkpoint.

I Don't recommend using mods that have UE4SS Dependancies. I've found in my testing these (including WR+) cause more things to break than they help, as well as corrupting saves/worlds.
It's not the mod writers fault, or specifically the mods themselves, but the library Dependencies of UE4 interacting with the UE5 engine in Windrose is just not ready, yet,..

Wall cost and size are little bit weird. Small wall cost 1 plant fiber but size of small wall is 1/4 of default (big) wall which cost is 2. So placing 2 piece of small wall cost is equal of 1 big wall but size is 1/2 less. Also maybe add to the game medium wall (like 2 small walls in a row) - this is really needs because window best location is at small wall

Hi, I'm still having random crashes with system reboots, especially near my most demanding build (where I removed a lot of parts, bringing it back to a problem-free state), but it's happened in the open sea. I installed the recommended AMD 24.3.1 driver cleanly, also repairing any system corruption using SFC and DISM, and DirectX End User doesn't detect any missing files. I previously tried using the AMD 26.5.1 driver, also cleanly installed. Event Viewer doesn't show much evidence of the crash, except for a volmgr error and a kernel-power critical. I tested the system using OCCT, which detected no issues. Does anyone have a similar problem? I should point out that I haven't had any problems until the latest update. Any solutions?

Do you have any details regarding the Kernel-Power Critical error you referenced?
Perhaps the full error and error code from event viewer?
Its not always a clear sign toward what is wrong but a Kernel Power error can be due to hardware, specifically power issues esp during high GPU utilization.
It indicates a system reboot without a proper shutdown, but if I had power issues, they would have surfaced during testing with OCCT or on other games. There's not much to it. Event ID 41, Critical Kernel-power
It not entirely accurate that the issue would surface in other games, or OCCT. Remember we're dealing with the UE5 engine, (which for one is ridiculously demanding on hardware), in an EA title.
The crash can also be due to unstable overclocks, overheating hardware, or corrupted system drivers.

I couldn't, I could only glimpse them, they seemed pretty normal to me. However, I have a dedicated gaming profile via iCue, when the temperature rises, the fans can be heard loudly, but they weren't noticeable; if there was a spike, it wasn't gradual.

I've ALWAYS had issues with DX12. Doesn't matter my GPU either (currently 9070xt. This and Subnautica 2 are only 2 that crash. Current drivers of 26.5.2 - no other hiccups. Had to go offline to install and turn off W11's auto-install drivers, but that worked). Back4Blood would go to like 30 fps whenever it updated, Darktide had that device hung error for MONTHS, Space Marine 2 was surprisingly ok but still does crash every so often by hanging and CTD.
Now Windrose here, whenever I run towards my copper mine on my base's island + I've been playing for at least 30 minutes.

I didn't expect you'd have a crash log, we can look at a R5.log from the time of a crash, to see if we can at least get a clue. It may tell us what "unloaded" first.

yeah, I'm looking as well, but so far. . . I'm not seeing anything weird.
In fact, it looks - to me at least - like the game got to creating the world, put you in, put on FSR, loaded the water, loaded your character, went to hide the loading screen because it was ready to play and then just. . . Decided to quit. So it does, and appears to do so successfully.

Cable Configuration: Ensure you are using two separate PCIe power cables directly from the PSU to the GPU, not a single daisy-chained cable.
Graphics Settings: Since the log shows Frame Generation (FFXFI) and FSR are active, try disabling them temporarily. If the reboots stop, it confirms the GPU is being pushed to generate more power than the PSU rail can handle in that mode.
The log confirms your hardware, drivers, and game configuration are otherwise perfectly standard and operational. The issue is not with the game's code, but with how your hardware is handling the intense power requests from the game's rendering engine.

Your logs look fine, the rails suggestion is valid by AI, but doubtful to be the cause as that would have been found with OCCT testing and other graphically intensive games..

Just do what you'd normally do. But do close everything you're not using, like browser, discord, etc. Everything we can rule out. If you can get in game, just run around for like 5 minutes then close it
I don't think that'll be necessary your logs you shared are exiting cleanly so we get no indicator of an unload event.
The problem is that these crashes are quite random, not the duration. Yesterday, after installing the 26.5.1 driver cleanly, it lasted for 2 hours, and I was even live streaming with a double canvas, then it crashed while I was climbing down from the very high roof of my building.

26.5.1 drives I know are screwy. 26.5.2 seem ok, and 26.3.1 are the current recommended for other things, though I think 26.1.1 is maybe still the recommended here? I don't recall.
I know as I was trying them all out to fix my issue. 26.5.1 was total system crashes, 26.5.2 seems to be the same as 26.3.1. Haven't really tried 26.1.1, as I've already done a lot of AMD cleanup utility + unplug internet + wait for this to install + reboot.
But since my GPU/CPU ain't overheating or really appears to be maxed out and it always happens after I've been playing a while, in the same place, I figure it's a load spike of SOMETHING. Doesn't even take my whole system down. I can just simply alt+tab, mouse over to my other monitor and kill windrose.exe.
I was popping over to see if anyone else had found a fix or was reporting. I mean, this is an EA game anyways. No one expects those to run flawlessly anymore (especially with UE5 + dx12)

yeah, I'm running along just fine the game freezes - no sound, new frames, nuthin' - then pops up a "UE5 has detected a crash and will now close. FATAL ERROR! [ok]".
Same time, AMD driver error report will pop up saying it detected a crash as well and if I want to report. Windrose will stay frozen in place unless I end task.
Oh and logs say, "DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG"
yeah the solution for this has not been found, at least not that I've seen. It's my opinion this one is on the devs, and the engine. It's also become a lot more prevalent in the latest patch.
Oh that or AMD's recent bad drivers is what I've determined as well. Especially since it seems to be the same thing Subnautica 2's doing to me
Darktide on release also would "DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG", which is how I recognize the error, and the devs eventually fixed it completely outside of drivers. Also that was a totally different NVidia card anyways.
I was just about to say this. If it helps, at least with a starting point. My 4090 is runnign drivers from Nov '24. Yes, that far back, b/c all the drivers since the 5000 series launch are utter trash.

I'm at around 30. I even managed to open resource manager and am monitoring the temperatures. Currently, I'm at a good 64°C GPU, 37°C CPU, and 30.5°C PSU. Windrose, resource manager, and iCue are open. AMD driver 24.3.1. I'd like to show you my build to see if I'm overreacting or if I can continue. Maybe it could be the cause of the crashes I've been experiencing?

My honest opinion... You're kinda pushing boundaries in a few areas.
One you're putting a LOT of demand on your hardware with all the entities you're adding in one dense area. So you're hardware is gonna buckle.
Two, the game itself, and the engine are not at all stable for super massive base/town/cities, even with the most high end hardware. I'm not saying your base is at that "Super massive" size yet, but I can see where you want to go, and I'll be honest, I'd be surprised if you got half way there.
The best I can offer for advice, is lower ALL your graphical settings to low, (which will run out of even being beneficial as you build bigger and bigger), and wait for the devs to make the game more stable, as this is going to be the key factor in getting to where it looks like you want to go.
It's still an EA game, and although we all want to make these awe inspiring towns, the core of the game is literally not optimized at all for that. And again even then highest end of hardware is going to hit a hard limit.

Advice is hard b/c its' subjective to your wants for your base. Just look at it like you have a hard "cap" of how any pieces you can place. to add more, you may have to delete from others.

I have changed the worldID in the serverDescription.json, but if I boot the server up, it overwrites it and creates a new server. If I do read-only on the serverDescription,json, it doens't start at all. What am I doing wrong?

The issue I'm having is that the ServerDescription.json overwrites WorldIslandId from my save file to a new world each time I start the server.
I'm trying to run the server ending in A56
@random scroll what works for me is coping all folders in the SavedProfiles/Default folder (so zip RocksDB, RocksDB_v2 and RocksDB_v2_Backups). Then FTP those 3 folders to your dedicated host. Update the ServerDescription with the WorldID you want. Make sure you do the backup and the restore when the Windrose server is NOT running.
The faq's and guides address this. it's matter of clearing out files, before replacing / renaming

no worries. I just worked it out after experimentation! Not sure why it needs the backup.

basically the guide was made before the 5/4 patch which added the v2 folders. and those folders prio the backups for some reason, so if the backups exists, which the guide would have you remove if followed... it would accomplish the same.
hosting a server through my pc not a dedicated, just the host server option through windrose menu, players can join no problem, but at random times, could be 5minutes, 15minutes and at random my friend gets booted back to the main menu, no errors, no warnings, game world just freezes around him and he cant interact with anything and then 3 seconds later he gets aloading screen and back to the menu, how can we fix this?
so havent played since the 18th update and when i press play {yes its up to date} directx 12 is not supported by my system and to try running without the -dx12 or -d3d12 command line argument and my command line arguement which i have no arguments running on a ryzen 9 5900xt 16 core 64 gb ram nvme storage and a rtx 5060ti 16gb gpu OS is ubuntu studio 24.04

and upon further investigation its anygame that runs unreal 5 says the whole dx12 thing so its something with unreal engine

Yeah, we understand that, but it's still not negating the fact that the dev's are saying it's not officially supported, any distro. Not saying you can't use it, not saying it won't work, but it's bound to have issues, and support is just kinda a own your own thing.
There's been a lot of Linux users in here that have found a lot of solutions to many problems posted, however the DX12 issue is becoming more and more widespread, and I personally haven't seen a solution yet. It's why I suggested searching the discussions here.
I personally don't run the game in a Linux based client, Servers yes, but client no, so I can't provide any support solutions.

this honestly sounds like a networking issue but I'm pretty sure also game related cause it wasn't like this before.
My friend and I are having a problem where our player icons along with quest POIs are not appearing on our map or minimap anymore. Last night we were playing fine, today we log in and can't see anything anymore. We DON'T have immersive exploration turned on. No settings have changed since last night. My friend logged out (as host) while I was in the middle of the ocean because my boat sank, so maybe that has something to do with it?
My friends and I have been having the same issue on our Gportal server for awhile now.
I can recreate the issue by jumping into the water, logging out, then restarting the game so it's def a bug. Maybe game thinks you're dead, so it doesn't update the map but player icons are forced to update after death and thats why they reappear.

Hi, after 40 hours of playing with my girlfriend using Steam Deck with PC streaming (I have a cast on my arm, and the deck's layout miraculously allows me to play or use the computer), the game has started crashing with a fatal error during the loading screen when selecting my character and world. On Steam Deck, playing normally with SteamOS works fine, but on Windows (PC), it crashes. The drivers are up to date, and my computer is new and powerful. I played with everything on epic graphics or those 40 hours without any problems. What could be the issue? Please excuse my English; my native language is Spanish.

Hi I’m running dedicated server on GPortal. Used invite code to play with 2 freinds on a 10-slot server. The the map is greyed out in the “previously played” server list unless i reboot on Gportal. Every single time. Its defeating the purpose of having it on a dedicated server at this point. I dont know if this is a bug or if its something in my Gportal settings - anyone else having similar problems?
Hi i am running a server on host unlimited. My friend can join the server, i cant. We played last weekend, all was fine. Now i am not able to join it. What should i do? After i restarted the server, nobody is able to connect. In the loading screen the "Loading.." moves bigger and smaller and it moves me back to the start screen.
It was fixed by switching from DLSS to FSR. Strange, since it was a reverse stream and I'd been playing with that configuration for 40 hours without problems. Thanks!

Nope, no change there, and surely it wouldn’t fix on server reboot if it was that? Looking back on messages here, Gportal seems to have issues with this game…. Have turned off Windrows+ for now, see if that helps

They're up to date, but the problem has already been solved; it must be some strange cross-incompatibility with SteamOS, which is why enabling FSR worked to fix it.
Sticking with FSR while streaming Windrose to your Deck is definitely the smartest move for now.

Hi everyone, I'm updating you on my crash issue. Today I did a longer test, and while I was adjusting the graphics settings on a semi-empty island (far from my demanding build) just to get a few more FPS, it crashed again. I only had vsync and the FPS limit disabled.

Having the same issue also, switched to NItrado to test it there and cant get it to let me connect there either and the server crashes. Can't even join my local hosted session now either. I am assuming something major is going on that just hasn't been announced yet. I've tried everything i can find all morning and half my day to get this new server stuff working with my local save etc. Had it kinda working yesterday and today nothing works
Turning off windrose+ serverside seems to have helped today
I turned that off too but still having issues, i am going to try a few more things and give up for now im drained on this one lol
If you've been running mods that have UE4SS dependencies like WR+ and you been experiencing un explainable server issues, (hang ups, disconnects, server crashes, etc..) my experience with these mods has found sometimes its not enough to simply remove the mod files from the server, you have backup your data and do a clean server installation.
This is the main reason I keep saying for now to avoid UE4SS dependant mods, it is a real pain to resolve issues with them, and that they are highly unstable.
Have you tested with a new world? Even though you may be far, entities could still be being called for loading in your map.

No, I was in the same world, just on a different island via fast travel. It wouldn't make much sense if I lost everything I've collected so far, and it would also break the streak I've been working on for about a month. As I said, these are fairly random crashes; they can happen after half an hour or hours.
I'm suggesting a new world to test if it crashes....
Yes, I figured that out. However, I can tell you that it crashed on ARC Raiders a little while ago too. Maybe I can share the logs so we can see if there's anything wrong this time?

Can anyone solve the "creates new world everytime server is restarted" problem? Ive used the guides pinned here and copy/pasting or renaming world save folders isnt doing it
I'll be happy to help, however, you'll have to list exactly the steps you performed in detail to follow the guide, as I can't even remember/count how many users followed the guide and/or pinned discussions, and resolved that exact issue, including myself.
I have to suspect you've likely missed an important step, or did something out of order of the guides, (as the guides are not instructing to only copy/paste world folders, but rather root directories). It would make no sense it's work for dozens and not one.
Hey guys! Looking for some help with a seemingly weird issue. A buddy and I started playing today on a privately hosted world not knowing there was a dedicated server option through steam. I had him send me the save files from his computer and uploaded all the info to the server but the server makes a new map every time. I've matched the IslandID every time but it changes it every time i boot the server up. Any suggestions on how to keep our progress from the files but run it on the server?

does anyone know whats the issue with my game setting resetting to ramdom stuff every time i relaunch the game? i got a 1440p monitor but every time i lauch the game it sets itself to 4k resolution fullscreen mode with all settings to lowest.
I only had VRAM-related crashes when exiting to the main menu. Very annoying, but only in this specific situation.
All gameplay was fine, no crashes, only perf issues.
Check the logs in ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/3041230/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/R5/Saved/, they may give you some insight.

question about my server. before the update it was good but now that i have updated it changed the world ID and boot it up it keeps changing the world id to a new world. reading others glad im not the only one having this issue.
mine can crash at any point, running around, boarding enemy ships and just walking around in base it doesnt have any special occation just crashes when it wants too

Hey all, I'm running the Steam Windrose Dedicated Server on a secondary laptop. I've noticed that after a few days of running (unsure of how many exactly) but the server will shut down. Is this a feature or am I doing something wrong? I'm not running the server from Steam, I go into the local files and run the StarServerForeground while steam is not running. Is there a config I need to adjust to make the server not auto-close after a few days?
The dedicated server can crash in certain situations. The best you can do is use an auto-restart script.
Played today without my crash for 45min while TRYING to trigger, @marsh glen .
I did 2 things, but won't say what quite yet until I test for stability a bit more. Because if it's not a solution, it's not a solution. Gotta confirm. If I forget, poke me back here in like a day or 2, please.

Windrose sees your old world DB
BUT considers it “inconsistent version”
therefore it does NOT register it as a valid active island
then it creates a brand new island automatically
So the server is not truly loading FC56 anymore.
This also explains ALL the previous behavior:
fog reset
world duplication
generated IDs
restoration loops
The important part is this:
Restore backup has finished successfully
BUT:
Worlds count: 0
Meaning:
the DB itself restores, but fails validation as a usable current island.
At this point, the issue is no longer Pterodactyl/Wings/Linux/Wine.
The issue is:
the save format itself
OR incomplete save restoration
OR missing companion databases/files
And honestly, based on your archive contents earlier, I strongly suspect:
you do NOT have the full save ecosystem, only the world DB.
Because Windrose is clearly expecting:
island registry metadata
root document collections
account/player mappings
world registration records
Windrose no longer recognizes FC56 as a valid ACTIVE island
so it generates a fresh world instead
which prevents your original world from becoming the live runtime world
And based on the logs, that is almost certainly because:
some companion metadata/database files are missing
I HAVE THE WORLDS FOLDER (the one that named the long string of number and letters) FROM MY FRIENDS SERVER WHERE WE HAVE BEEN PLAYING. I HAVE TRIED EVERY FIX MENTIONED HERE AND FROM THE WEBSITE. BUT THE ABOVE MESSAGE IS THE SUMMATION THAT CHAT GPT GAVE ME WHEN I HAD IT READ THE LOGS FROM MY MOST RECENT SERVER START UP ATTEMPT. what is the fix here? do i need the entire r5 folder and try to place that into the server? Is the original worlds folder from a previous version of Windrose and so its just not being recognized? Please help me somebody

Although,.. your AI inquiry did tell you why you're failing, you're just choosing not to acknowledge that you really didn't follow the Guide/linked discussions/FAQ's.
My suggestion is to actually read the guide, or the linked chats, or the FAQ's in the pin, see what folders you actually do need, where to place them, and how.

Linux is the same base file structure and principles, your root directory file structure may differ slightly before your Windrose base paths.

Hello all! I apologize if this has been answered, and/or this is in the incorrect place, but I’m not sure where to ask.
This message pops up every time I start the game. This photo is the only game error I’ve gotten with a brand new laptop. Yes I’m sure it runs directx12, and yes we’ve done the obvious fixes (I’m pretty sure) and yes I’ve had my “techy” friend look into the issue and update ALL the drivers and what not. I think I just need to know if anyone else is having this issue, and if they’ve been able to resolve it??
It's an ongoing issue reported by a lot of users, I'm not sure a resolve has been found yet, and likely needs to be addressed by the developers.

It seems that when i am ata the sea i get 0 issues and i do not disconnect but the moment i go into islands that there is vegatation the game crashes. Is this a shader problem that might be fixable somehow? I even tried putting the settings on low and it is not helping

has any one else had an issue with the chain shots no longer work, since the last update they no longer connect when fired at sails. the hit reg works against anything else with a hit box, but when it comes to sails the just pass through.

Is it possible to move my Nitrado Server world to my Offline world?
I have copied the World Files from the server and have moved the copy to my PC's world file, but when I launch the game, it says:
"Failed to migrate some of your save files to the new game version"
Action to follow:
"Data is broken and cannot be migrated to the new version. Record will be deleted."
Use DDU, and roll back to driver 26.3.1 with automatic updates disabled. There are known issues with other UE5 games on drivers 26.5.1 and 26.5.2 that could also be affecting Windrose.

I tested it for about 30 minutes doing login/logout cycles with my wife helping me.
It worked every single time. And she was VERY patient with all my testing spam 😂
Is anybody else on a dedicated/hosted server having issues with the server suddenly not letting people log in (even though other players are playing just fine)? A server restart seems to fix it, but it starts happening again after another several hours of play
Hihi, im having issues with trying to move a saved world in my dedicated server back into a normal single/multi-player world.
I have followed all directions i can find that guide on how to move it from the dedicated server to a normal singe-player world save again, but nothing works properly. It brings the save back to a previous backup no matter what i do. I want to load into the world where i left off in the dedicated server.
It will not transfer the world "as is" in the server, it will only load a previous backup it seems. Im not sure what to do, I wanted to have a backup option for when i cant pay for another month of the dedicated server so i can continue on this world from where i leave off.
Is this not possible? Anyone have any advice or guidance?

If you have file access you can try to search for Windrose Dedicated Server\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles\Default folder. It contains RockyDB_v2* folders

Can't join the server I've been playing on for 2 weeks now. No "wrong password" or other message. Just after entering the loading screen, I get dumped onto the main menu screen.
I can fully load into solo mode.

Game runs fine on solo but when I try to play co-op it takes no less than 10 seconds after loading into the world and it freezes.

I have a dedicated server that I run myself on a server in my home I was playing yesterday and I deleted a structure that holds up a very larger portion of my base by mistake and now the game will not run because of all of the resources spilling out could someone tell me how to roll back my server just 1 day so that it goes back before i deleted the support and collapsed the base

nope, and the only way to "remove actors" that are causing issues like that is only in memory and can cause corruption

what you MIGHT be able to do is copy the dedicated server's world file over to fingle player and just "let it run" while it dumps everything (might take hours depending on how much it is) then lower your settings and pray
EDIT I'm keeping the "fingle" player typo because that's funny af but I have a TON of stuff open and my computer's sluggish atm

Anyone have any ideas? I have a dedicated server at home on my home server. Been running a champ. I made a character for the server, and yesterday, I mistakenly joined my single player world with my server character. Now, when I load back into my server, the character makes the entire server crash. I created a new character and it joined to the server with zero issues. But if I load in with the other guy, crashes the server totally.
