To assist us, could you please share your Steam logs (not the game logs, but the ones generated by Steam itself) if you had any issues with Steam Cloud Saves? These logs are extremely helpful for us in identifying and resolving the issue more effectively.

Modding & Third-Party Software Use

We are aware that some players use mods and third-party tools. While mods can expand the experience and we provide a dedicated space to discuss them, they significantly interfere with our ability to properly investigate and fix issues.

Important:
• We do not provide official modding support.
• We do not support any third-party software used to run or host the game.

Mods and external tools can introduce issues that mimic real bugs. When these are reported without proper context, our team may spend significant time attempting to reproduce and fix problems that are not caused by the game itself. This directly impacts our ability to address legitimate issues for all players.

What this means for you:
• If you are using mods or third-party software, you must clearly state this when reporting a bug.
• Reports involving such setups may be deprioritized or declined entirely.
• If third-party software is discovered during investigation and was not disclosed, your report priority will be lowered. We reserve the right to take further measures at our discretion.

Supported environments:
• Vanilla (unmodified) game client
• Official Windrose Dedicated Server application (unmodded)

Anything outside of this scope is considered unsupported.
• If your issue is related to mods, please contact the mod provider.
• If it’s related to hosting services, we recommend reaching out to your hosting provider for official support.

Hotfix incoming, online modes downtime heads-up!

Ahoy mateys!

On Friday, Apr 17, we are going to update the game to the version 0.10.0.2.54-451ec92d, addressing some of the current issues.

**Online modes will not be available from <t:1776409200:t> (your local time) for approximately one hour! **

Offline mode will not be affected, but we recommend downloading the update as soon as possible.

Patchnotes:

Connectivity Fixes:

wr_star Disabled the access token generation cooldown for dedicated servers, this should alleviate some of the connectivity issues for dedicated hosts
wr_star More connectivity fixes are underway and are currently being tested, they need a little more time before we can release them. Thank you for your patience!

Other Fixes:

wr_star Fixed an issue where the client did not check the server version before connecting, it now displays a UI error message if the server is outdated;
wr_star Removed the 8-character minimum limit for invite codes, the limit is now 1–32 characters;
wr_star Fixed a crash caused by ship spawns in Tortuga;
wr_star Boss scaling now functions correctly when more than 3 players initiate a fight;
wr_star Fixed a bug where the Boar Whistle could become unobtainable if it fell into the Altar's bowl due to full inventory when receiving it;
wr_star Fixed the animation for carrying objects;
wr_star Fixed the Plague Halberd special attack VFX floating above the deck during boarding;
wr_star Fixed an issue where healing potion effects could be interrupted by other consumables or dashes;
wr_star Fixed musket movement while aiming, it should now be smoother;
wr_star Fixed the Overpenetration talent, it should now function correctly;
wr_star Fixed fire damage numbers for the Dragonbreath Blunderbuss, they are now displayed correctly with the proper VFX;
wr_star Fixed a bug that occasionally caused Thomas Richards to switch targets mid-sprint during his Grab attack;
wr_star Fixed a bug where Thomas Richards would sometimes use his Grab attack immediately after throwing bombs;
wr_star Fixed Grenadier grenades: they now pass through players and other NPCs;
wr_star Fixed Grenadier aggro: they no longer lose targets as quickly and will correctly close the distance if a player moves too far away;
wr_star Fixed the Plague Crusher getting stuck in trees, it now correctly destroys trees while moving;
wr_star Removed the "Wishlist Now" link from the main menu. That was actually stupid.
wr_star Extended the host server start timeout to 5 minutes to allow more time for world version updates;
wr_star Fixed numerous localization errors;
wr_star DedicatedServer.md now contains examples for WorldPresetType: "Easy", "Medium", and "Hard"

STEAM CLOUD SAVES UPDATE

First off, thank you. Seriously. The amount of love and support you’ve been showing us lately hasn’t gone unnoticed, and we really appreciate it.

Over the past few days, we’ve been investigating a number of issues, and today we want to talk a bit more about the Steam Cloud save problems some of you have been running into.

From what we’ve seen so far, it can show up in a few different ways:

wr_star Playing on 2–3 different devices → and then suddenly not being able to log into the game anymore
wr_star Playing on a single device → but after saves get uploaded to the cloud, you can’t get past the main menu
wr_star Other odd behavior that’s hard to pin down and doesn't resolve after a simple PC restart

We know how frustrating this is, especially if you’re used to switching between setups without even thinking about it. We’re really sorry this is happening, and please know we’re actively working on it.

With so many different setups and devices out there, the tricky part has been pinning down the exact root cause. We’ve been trying to keep up with reports (mostly through our Discord server), but we know that’s not ideal for everyone. Thanks for sticking with us anyway.

For now, we recommend:
wr_star Avoid switching between devices if you can
wr_star Back up your save files manually from time to time
wr_star If you run into corrupted saves, turn off Steam Cloud before restoring from a backup

Game Client Save folder (fi you play solo or self-host):
%LOCALAPPDATA%\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles

Dedicated Server save folder:
R5\Saved\SaveProfiles

We recommend backing up the entire **SaveProfiles **folder in both cases. Also, if Steam asks which save to use, it’s generally safer to go with your local files whenever possible. Turning Steam Cloud back on can sometimes overwrite your local progress, which might set you back or undo your latest saves, so just be a bit careful there.

For now, we’re keeping Steam Cloud on. We may need to turn it off later, as fixing this in a controlled environment is much easier than trying to patch it live for everyone at once. Please stay tuned.

And again, thank you for the trust you’re giving us right now. We don’t take it lightly. We care a lot about this game and about you guys, and we’re doing everything we can to sort this out. It’s a long journey, but we’re in it together.

Due to enormous inflow of players, we are quickly allocating more resources to the game online components so that we can survive until a full-fledged update on that is rolled out.

This may result in minor connectivity issues and "server not found" messages for a short period of time NOW (for about a minute).

Apologies for the inconvenience, but this is crucial so people can enjoy the game over weekend.

Hey guys!

Sorry for the ping, but this is important.

As you may have seen, we’re continuing to roll out hotfixes and updates to make your gameplay experience smoother.

One of the more challenging issues we’ve been working through is Steam Cloud Save reliability. While this only affects some players, we want to make sure the upcoming fix is stable before releasing it to everyone. That means testing it thoroughly, catching any remaining issues, and validating it with players willing to help us out.

For this purpose, we’ve opened a Public Test branch on Steam focused specifically on the updated save system.
