If all set currently & configs/setup is correct and all lights are green and your game is up to date and you cannot connect contact them, then it's "most likely" on their end. 🙂 and check the server logs if you can.

Has been my go to since EA launch and it's been perfectly stable for me since. Mornedhels also has containers for Valheim and Enshroided. I've come to be a fan of their implementation with Supervisord for internal updates and monitoring.
In my opinion, Nitrado/Relay based hosting is garbage, especially for this game. Just port forward, play with Direct IP.
my wife would be playing solo and I updated her graphics the best that they can be for this game, but when she plays after like an hour or 2 her fps drop and she starts to lag hard. Is there any fix for this or is this a known issue?

Now they just need to add server history for ip direct connections. Unless I missed something, entering my ip port and password each time is getting a bit old lol

I've begun experiencing my PC shutting off when opening the game. doesnt happen with any other application. Sometimes it happens when launching the game. sometimes when loading a save file and other times i can play for an hour before it happens.
Looking at some logs it from previous event it shows the game causing the PC to run out of memory. Has anyone else experienced similar?

Not sure if it was coincidence or not but when I couldn’t get past the loading screen for my server, I booted my single player game. After that I was able to connect to the server and play as normal. Might be helpful, may have been coincidence 🤷🏻

Ok, here’s what happened.
We played as a trio with my friend A and friend B for two days in a row on my dedicated server — no issues at all. The next day, friend B couldn’t join, so friend A hosted the dedicated server instead. Everything worked fine again for the next two days.
Then suddenly I couldn’t join anymore. We tried hosting the server from each of our PCs, but nothing worked.
I downloaded Cloudflare Warp, and that temporarily fixed the issue — I was able to join again. But the next day an update came out, and it completely broke everything. None of the previous fixes worked anymore.
Now we haven’t been able to play for 3–4 days.
Honestly, in most other games you don’t have to go through 10,000 steps and configurations on your PC just to play multiplayer — that’s something the developers should handle. And even after trying everything (restarting PC, reinstalling drivers, reinstalling the game, checking firewall, changing DNS, disabling antivirus, etc.), it still doesn’t work.
If the problem is on my PC, then why did everything work perfectly before? None of us changed anything — no new antivirus, no new settings. We just launched the game one day and suddenly it stopped working.
I understand this is early access, but just because it works fine for some people doesn’t mean it works for everyone. I’m definitely not the only one — just scroll through this Discord channel and you’ll see many people having the same issues with joining dedicated or hosted servers.
Some players even lost their characters after an update. And instead of restoring them, they were told to go through complicated steps to recover them. In the end, it was the community helping each other — not even sure if it worked for everyone.
We do have patience, but not unlimited patience. At the very least, the devs should:
acknowledge the issue
apologize in the announcements
and clearly communicate that they are working on a fix
That would already make a big difference.
interesting. i usually dont dive into a discord like this. i just play the game, and if it isnt working id give it another shot in a year. its not the end of the world for me. i get that ppl get riled up over stuff but it is what it is i guess. 
you came back from work, and you have to spend 2 hours trying various methods to join server, just to fail and go sleep without any gameplay... Absurd
Thats what we do now, just wait for next update, but frustration is real, when the game was very addictive and fun, and suddenly you cant play it anymore.

Todays update allowed me to join our dedicated server, then everything stopped working as in, world visuals and sound play but no longer able to interact or even move.
Hello, i wanted to ask, if anyone else has had the game start up, but freezes on the loading screen and never gets to the menu, it been doing that for me sins yesterday, today i verafied files and even reinstalled the game, but still cant load the game and get to the menu.

Hey folks! I keep getting crashes randomly. I have tried every fix other people have said and still getting it. It runs fine on my laptop with an Nvidia 5090/Intel CPU but on my desktop with an AMD 7900xtx/AMD CPU it crashes periodically

We did that as well, after a minute or 3 we were unable to interact and after a few seconds unable to move while the world does still function, as in the NPCS move and the water in the ocean as well

That. But if we restart the server we can then login and then the other issue arises and we then made a full circle and you get disconnected if you wait and then endless login screen
no from what another guy said, is that once you fight the server can't connect to the unreal engine library which creates a infinite loop of errors until the server freezes up.
My issue is the dedicated server freezes for myself and friends a few minutes after logging in. You cannot reconnect back, until the server has been restarted and the client side game closed and reopened. The issue however still happens even after the above steps. Only been an issue since Sunday 3rd May. Ticket has been logged

Ok, so we have unmodded and modded servers from several hosting parties that are experiencing the issue
in console it says also it conflicts with the ships that spawn
I'll test if I can use our map in offline modus to see if the issue is present there as well

Got kicked out of my dedicated server only to realize that the server had restarted itself, and the game had an update.
So I let steam update, the server had restart meanwhile, and then I use the invite code to re-join the server.
Now I'm stuck at this screen.
No UI, sounds as if I'm where I got kicked out (fast travel point) and no indication...
Then I get a message "The application had hung, we apologize for the inconvenience" (for which, bonus points to the devs)
And then the application shut down 🎭
this morning i connected to my server after a few restarts, build some stuff. Now i reconnect again and all of it is gone so xD

If you change a lot of settings make sure to backup your usersettings file so you can just replace the new one. Since it is an early access game this can happen often

Try to verify sometimes in some update its can fix something, This isn't the first time I've seen a Steam update go wrong, and each time the solution I adopted quickly fixed the problem.

Ours was fine too, the last couple of days there was a pretty significant amount of lag. Since the swap we haven’t had anywhere near the same amount of lag. Bisect keeps saying it’s a developer issue, but I’m not convinced 🤷♂️
It happens on multiple hosts, not just Bisect.
I swapped to Bisect from Nitrado and was the best decision ever for mine. Self hosted isn't an option when I play with someone on the other side of the world. It's why I ended up renting a server, so we could login without both being online
That sucks. I’ve loved bisect for a while but I decided to throw up a vps last night and go my own way. Maybe self hosted isn’t the right term. I’m using pelican panel on a vps running containerized game servers. It’s a lot of setup but the performance has been way better.

NGL, I am shocked to login this morning and discover that there is quite literally ZERO WORD from the devs on the Dedicated Server problem. I can look past the fact that there is a problem, but I have no tolerance for radio silence ... it's been 36 hours. Unacceptable.
Not sure if this helps anyone else, but found the world ID in server description was different. Changed it back to the right one and issues were resolved

dedi servers are always bad on ea launch, Wildcard / Ark: SE a prime example. It's been two weeks. barely over. I get wanting it fixed but radio silence may be better than saying 🤷♂️ "no idea wtf to do"
Radio silence is never better than admitting not knowing, people can try to come with solutions in the case the devs are stuck

Using Bisect Hosting. Never had an issue with them until this morning when trying to log in we are all stuck at the load in screen. Customer service is zero help atm. However another friend is using Nitrado and is also having similar issues. 🙁
Ive been reading though different sections and I cant find a discussion about my issue. Does anyone know about personally hosting a server and having server lag, especially while people are sailing? My servers cpu and ram isn't pegged at 100%, so I dont think its a resource issue.

what is interesting, in bitsec i can see when i log off the game still thinks im in the server, as soon as i restart the server i can log on but it deletes the last things i did.
SO for example i build a tower now > leave > reset server > rejoin > tower gone

@scarlet blaze we had this issue with a dedicated server. The server didnt have enough ram. We switched to a different provider with more ram and the problem went away. So maybe your personal machine is capping out at times
That is my main issue with this whole thing... I know it is early access, but you have to communicate with your players. This chat is the only reason that I know it isn't on my end. I was driving myself crazy trying to troubleshoot yesterday.
Possible, but it has 16 gigs, I've never seen it past 11 gigs while the server is running and people are on. Not sure why it would have an issue when there is 5 gigs of head room.
Good morning everyone. After the update, my account is no longer syncing; my character is at level 1. This happens every time I update. How can I fix this so that I don't lose this synchronization each time I update and can return my account to my normal level?
My world ID in server description is correct but the dedicated server still makes backup every minute. I can join and play they game but this keeps happening on the background. Running on Debian/Wine

the worlds folder id is the exact same name as the serverdescription.json's "WorldIslandID" and the "islandID" in WorldDescription.json but everytime I start the server it generates a new world and overrides the serverdescription.json

The DeploymentId is the actual build number, and it is old on your server.

Had issue after the update, could choose character and map, got map loading screen, just before the game would appear it dropped me back to desktop. Fixed it by disabling windows gamebar -
Settings, System, System Components, Game Bar, To the right of the Game Bar listing select the 3 dots, select more options and then advanced options.
I used the invite code and luckily I am back on.
Have you double checked it didn't install it to some other directory considering you didn't escape the file path with quote marks ?
Other than that clear SteamApps temp dir and probably remove appmanifest file and re-run the script.

Hello Dear, I have error about my Nitrado server and client version mismatch error, how can I fix it?
I am having a really hard time getting my world save transferred into my nitrado server. I tried using winscp to transfer the folder directly into nitrado, and that worked to get it into the default worlds folder but any time i try to select that one it defaults back to the default world when starting the server. I tried selecting it in the settings, changed the config files too. Can anyone help me out please?

I cleared everything out and generated a fresh world and it only did one folder - but I wasn't able to get my friends server loaded on my PC so hes just back to hosting it

Hello, I am having an issue where when trying to launch into solo/offline mode it gets stuck on loading screen. I can hear it loaded in the background as I hear the ambient sounds for what it’s like when in game but is stuck otherwise. When I was playing last night it did crash but it was late so I didn’t relaunch, have a feeling it’s related to that. Have tried reinstalling to no avail. Any ideas?
I have a server through Gportal. It is an established game. I opened windrose, to play, and it did an update. Now my server is not showing up, and the invite code is not working. Help?
I had to switch back from Direct connect to the invite code to have anyone be able to have any one connect, from 2 patches back.
yeah I dont know if the world I am adding to the server is placed in the wrong spot or what but I just tried going through the whole thing again and it just switches back to the default world every time I start the server
does anyone elses self-hosted dedicated server keep creating multiple worlds and not reading the backedup world even after renaming it in ServerDescription
Thank you for your help, I believe it finally updated. What I ended up having to do is I stopped the server. logged into my steam on the server and let it update my client there as well. then I checked the .json and the version was finally correct
never had to do that before, tried it on a whim.

Has anyone been able to get Direct connect working again after the patch 2 patches back? My server will not connect DC any more, just times out. But Invite code works fine. Flipping the toggles restart ETC. Its sad because the connection with DC was so much more stable.

I'm getting a mismatch between the client version: 23065453 and what the steamcmd server version which is 23065343, so I'm unable to join the server.
Did you shut down steam and restart? Did you restart / update the server?
I hadn't tried the first but can, but yes did restart and update the server.
steam client appears to be the same. Tried doing a fresh install of the windrose server too, but that also seems to get the version 23065343.

Am I reading the DirectConnection notes correctly in that all that really matters is the port? ie if I leave the IP blank, then I can connect to it from my local network using the internal IP and external players can connect via my external IP via the port forward?

ur server version is old and pretty much ur f like me real fix get r5 file with new version add it to your world and then add your main world in to saves default and then go to json to change the world name otherwise get ready to start from beginning
I was getting this same issue with solo/offline world but just kept closing and retrying and it finally worked

Hey guys I couldnt update the dedicated server on my other pc (somehow stuck on the old patch), so I created a new server via steamcmd and tried to move the world over from the old server/backup file, but it genrates a new map and all exploration is gone too. Is there a way to fix this? Btw. I already checked the severdescription.json and replaced the World ID.

if you're using bisect you need to edit the world id in the startup menu and not directly in the fileexplorer

Verified. @idle geyser why did you guys disable bi directional syncing? If I play offline, any changes do not sync to the Steam cloud now. That's a real problem.
Personally, I deleted Appmanifest, which is located in the steamapps folder, and I was able to reconnect to my server.
From what I can tell it looks like the saves folder has been relocated, this is causing issues with steam cloud saves, and dedicated server connections. This was major change that honestly should've been thought of before hand. The devs REALLY need to make some sort of official announcement as servers will start getting bricked fast if people don't know steps to prevent it.
server restarts just keep generating new worlds, stop server > import save backup, rename WorldID > creates multiple worlds > WorldID points to new world > repeat

Ive been playing on handheld and 9 times out of 10 the game crashes when I get to Tortuga. Doesn't matter whether I fast travel or sail. And then the game crashes on load up constantly after. Has anyone found a fix?
Hey can anyone help me? I tried connecting to my buddie's server thru invite code and direct IP and it won't lemme join. When I try the invite code it says the above SS, and when I go to do the IP one it kicks me back to the main menu.

My Nitrado server ONLY works in invite code mode now after 2 updates back. I had to flip the switch on the server admin tab. I had no issue whatsoever with the newest patch. Just restarted the server and restarted steam.
Hello guys, I use different keybinds, as I do not like standard key bindings in any game (WASD is objectively worse than EDSF). I know this is Early Access and some parts of the game will be reset, but I would at least like to save my config file so that I do not have to change the keybindings again. Can you please provide the location on the hard drive where I can find that config file?

I am not annoyed by the problem, I am annoyed by teh fact that Kraken Express cannot even acknowledge the problem or give a status update about it. A lot of us are paying money for servers in addition to the game and some communication would be nice.
Yup thats the deal with early access games and people just seem to not understand what they are getting almost every case.
look at the game bug report channel and all of us here trying to figure things out...there are a million different ways things can break, they can only address issues as they find them, if they try and address every single thing nothing will get fixed fast
Its also important to note that while 60% of users work fine, the 40% are the niche user-base with their own server (and computer) specific drivers, parts, bandwidth capability, etc. Its unfortuantely not a cut and dry "Works on my machine!" when youre looking at thousands to hundreds of thousands of players testing your game

I can only join my dedicated server if I set it for direct IP connections. Invite codes kick me back to the main menu. Looks like some people have issues the other way around.

The server will upgrade the database to v2 automatically (RocksDB->RocksDB_v2). Copy the new binaries and start the server as usual. Backup R5/Saved just in case.

haven't been able to launch offline, hosted, or connect to my dedicated server since the last two updates
I’m having a major issue. I was playing just fine yesterday, but after downloading today's patch, the game won't launch. When I try to start it, Steam says 'Running' for a second, but then it just stops and goes back to the 'Play' button as if nothing happened. I’m not getting any error messages at all. I’ve already tried verifying the game files, deleting my save games, and several other things, but I still can't get it to work. Does anyone have any ideas?

We(partner and I) recently relocated and did a massive revamp of our main base. We thought that lag was due to to having so much stuff built in that area? But I've seen photos other players have shared of their massive builds with no mention of lag.
So is the lag from our build, or whatever yall having been working on a fix for?

If it started recently after an update I would hazard to say its an issue with the update. It seems to be intermittent and no one is quite sure what the exact issue is. Happy to take a look at your server to make sure its not an issue with the node if you can DM me your panel link.

using nitrado, no mods, just the game and using their updates. now i can't even launch my game offline. what ever happened in the past two updates made the problems worse and game unplayable

From what I've been seeing its intermittent. There was an issue on our end that we resolved but some users still have issues.
I do hope that the Hosting Bisect, if impacted for still couple of days, at least provides something back to those paying. Paying for a server and losing a week to even use their server, should not be accepted slipping through our fingers. Even just the lost days just being added to the invoice period...

Hey Mods, not sure where to post this but - for anyone having issues with fatal errors on start due to Nvidia GPU’s rolling back from 595.x to 590.x resolved it for me.
I’ve been working at it all day trying to puzzle out various launch options and things, so I got past the loading screen and into character creation before calling it a W for the time being - don’t know if it will sustain w/o crashes, BUT it works.
My fix was NixOS specific (pinned driver version) and you can find instructions/example for pinning Nvidia drivers @ wiki.nixos.org/nvidia but I’d be happy to post the code block if anyone wants it

if people can enter ur server while u are at work and ur pc is off then ur game is hosted somewhere else
host service = nitrado/other third party hosts
host dedicated = running a server on ur personal computer or running the server on a separate computer u own
and that somewhere else has outdated files

No. Restarting it just reboots it. It's not a wipe, it's just turning it off then back on
try using cloudflare warp. Its an app that changes your DNS. Also try logging in singleplayer before trying to join multiplayer
its been running consistantly for over a month, we even have our own custom remote manager UI. but i updated it earlier today and flatline lol

right? i got 7 dms back to back about server needing artifacts updated. so i rushed home, shut it all down, updated, verified, and rebooted pc. and it sitll doesn't populate. so i came here haha
after the update my caracter lost all the achievements and is level 1 again
Is anyone using AMP having an issue where the automatic updates don't update? It will look like it's running in the management console but no one can access it. Stopping and manually updating fixes it but I'd like for the automation to work so my friends aren't locked out when the game updates while I'm at work
i know it doesnt help while the dedicated are locked out. but we do have an awesome custom UI that we can kick/ban players from our dedicated or fire off restarts from outta town that helped a lot until this bork lol

Latest update from Bisecthosting: A hotfix has been launched accross all servers to have the servers stabilized again. For those who lost 2 days of service, an additional 2 days have been added to the service. Restart your servers and make sure to check if an server version update is needed. (Can confirm i've been playing on it and fighting ships for an hour since launch, not crashed or any freezes

late to the party but restarting the server + reinstalling the game on steam helped me when i got the client/server mismatch issue. ty for recommending the restart.
I have found this fix to not be 100% sadly, managed 1 hour 50 mins , then 50mins , and now about 30
enable the experimental forced relay and it let us join my dedicated.
Sometimes my monitor will turn black for a few seconds and then come back. I normally fix this from happening again by unplugging the monitor and plugging it back in. However in this game when I do that, the game crashes to desktop. Why is the game crashing to desktop when I unplug my monitor?

My friend bought a server and weve been playing with no issues till today, when i boot up the game the server is on the list of recently played and when i type in the invitiation code it tells me the client and server are on different versions. any help would be great!

I might've borked the save prior to the update but I now, at least know why it wasnt reading my other saves. I had copied the directory to the Rocksv2 instead of the world file to the directory within Rocksv2 that the server reads. so I copied the old save to the correct folder and started about to test

Like, I've got a nitrado server and it works, but it's laggy because they don't have any central servers, and for some reason, the miami server is shooting 100 ping. So I decided I'd try gportal. But this is ridiculous

all these services use SteamCMD, unless im mistaken, they will all probably have the same issues

Out of curiosity, have you checked that your <WorldIslandID> in ServerDesciption.json and <islandId> in WorldDescripton.json both match your save folder name?

so now the only issue, is how do I get the server to stop generating a new world and replacing my other one. I copied the file over to the new directory and removed any other worlds. however upon startup it generates a new world and ignores my other file

Chances are the server is not reading the world ID's passed to it from the .json's. This is a dev issue, likely have to wait for a fix from them

Im hosting on dedicated on premise so thats not a hosting provider issue. Ive narrowed it down to a migration issue. The server find the old save, cant update it, ignores it and creates a new one. AFAIK from reading the logs

I gave up on the VM after trying to run it with a decent CPU usage on the 2 previous patches and gone bare metal windows

after the patch last week, I found the Docker, and Windows VM greatly improved CPU / Disk usages. Just sad today the whole thing broke..

yea i thought somehing was wrong at first until i had to switch to Host instead of bridge mode, it was at like 15-20% and now its at sub 1
so is it normal that my game works I just dont have my old world lol cause its loading from the old files at this point but everything is reset. I feel like theres nothing I can do at this point

So interesting thing. I just brought back images, of my servers, and my client before the patch this morning. Turned off, cloud saves, backed up the windrose server root dir on both the Docker Dedicated, and the Windows VM dedicated. Updated both servers, then updated the client via steam (again with could saves off).
I'm now able to connect to both and my progress is matching where it was.
Note, I am connecting via Direct IP on a local network to my data center here, and via direct LAN IP.
It appears inbound from out of local network is working as well, again Direct IP
Did it load the specific Save ID without overwriting?

We are seeing the same issues with our container and @ indifferentbroccoli *certain saves failing to migrate and a new save being created each time

I know in his container every now and then the SteamCMD just dies and fails to update on restart, you'll get an error:
Error! App '4129620' state is 0x6 after update job.
If you go into \windrose\steeamapps\ and rename\remove <appmanifest_4129620.acf> this will reset the version history of the Windrose updates and force a recheck/update.

I'm no longer getting drops. Someone clued me in on Process Lasso. Windrose is attempting to use your efficiency cores, causing your game to drop hard. Try it out and disable the use of those cores

I personally backed up the root Windrose directories, but you should be safe if you only backup your <\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles> directory
Just note these will likely be restored in a new directory if needed as RocksDB inside that dir is now RocksDB_v2
surely there's a settings file within there somewhere that is separate from your character or world saves?
that file also contains several "Auto Backups" it's worth while to grab the whole thing, and it's not very much disk space to do so

@halcyon yew I just had a thought, this could be a permissions issue in your docker setup. You may want to try reimporting your saved data, and chmod 777 on your saved dir
you may also need to edit user perms
in all honesty, thinking about it, it could be a permissions issue for anyone that sees the server just infinitely creating new world folders...

My dedicated server appears to have launched but then it stops abruptly.
chmod -R 0777 /mnt/cache/appdata/windrose
you're already ready set to nobody:users (It looks like), but you could also run:
chown -R nobody:users /mnt/cache/appdata/windrose
to be safe.
Just make sure your windrose server is shut down first.

Honestly, this game is garbage with all these updates. I've had enough, I'm going to play another game. Every update is a mess, I lose my character, etc. It's just one update that's a disaster, and this one is the worst. Any other game is better for me. The devs don't answer anyone and they don't fix anything, it's over.

i have a dedicated server i thought i had saved the island files correctly from my hosted world but when i spawn in there is no building or any fast travel points but missions were kept is this normal ?

Hi everyone! I’m having a major issue with my dedicated server. It completely ignores my uploaded RocksDB_v2 save and forces a new world generation every time I restart, even after syncing the WorldIslandId in the config files. I’ve also noticed that I can’t share my discovered map with friends by sending them my save files. I’ve posted a detailed report with screenshots in the #bug-reports channel. Guys, it finally works! Copying the ENTIRE RocksDB_v2 folder is indeed the solution.
What I did:
Stopped the server completely.
Instead of just moving the world folder, I uploaded the whole parent folder RocksDB_v2 from my local %LOCALAPPDATA% path to the server via FTP.
Made sure the transfer mode was set to Binary in FileZilla.
Synced the WorldIslandId in ServerDescription.json to match my save folder name.
Restarted the server, and it loaded my world perfectly without creating any 'extra' random worlds.
Big thanks to @Dzban >>>> Hizir for the tip! If anyone is still stuck, try moving the full database folder, not just the files inside.

To go back to the server copy after playing locally, you just need to reverse the process, but with one important rule: always overwrite the entire folder.
Close your local game to make sure the database files are saved and not 'in use'.
Stop your dedicated server.
Go to your local path: %LOCALAPPDATA%\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles[Your_ID].
Upload the entire RocksDB_v2 folder to your server via FTP (Binary mode), replacing the one currently on the server.
Make sure the WorldIslandId in your server's .json config still matches the folder name inside RocksDB_v2/0.10.0/Worlds/.
Start the server.
Basically, the 'Full Folder Copy' method works both ways!

Hello all, I'm having an issue with fps drops. Until yesterday ive had no issues with it. When I load the game even in the lobby before pressing play. The fps with start at around 70 then in a matter of about 5 minutes drop to 6-10. This happens every single time I load the game now. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Currently, when I explore the map and clear the Fog of War, my friends still see it as undiscovered and have to run to the same places themselves. It would be great if there was a setting to sync map progress across all players on the server. Does anyone know if this is possible through a config file or a console command?
I had the exact same issue! My server crashed at first too, but I just kept trying and it worked on the 3rd or 4th attempt. I think the server just needed some time to 'process' and index the new save files before it could stabilize. It's been running fine ever since!

@bright edge , the reason it shows a different world ID is that the server is still trying to prioritize its own generated data over your files. To fix this, you need to be more "aggressive" with the files:
- Stop the server completely.
- Delete the current RocksDB_v2 and RocksDB_v2_Backups folders from your server's FTP entirely. Don't just overwrite files, delete the folders first.
- Upload your entire RocksDB_v2 folder from your PC (%LOCALAPPDATA%\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles...) to the server.
- Double-check that your WorldIslandId in the .json files matches your folder name exactly before you start the server.
- If it still shows a new world on the first boot, restart it 2-3 more times without changing anything. It will eventually "catch" the right database."
I also didn't see that the Backups needed to be deleted too. Will try that after attempting what VIP said
