Valheim, ACBF, Skull and bones,
Low speed into the wind every time I want to go anywhere? No thanks. Had enough of that already.
Theres... a thing called tacking you know
(Basically just fancy zigzags)
I'm well aware. Didn't work well in Valheim. Not enough open water.
And ship routes for faster sailing and higher wind speeds
Ah makes sense. Probably would work better for this game though.
I agree, either keep it or it only makes your ship faster
For ultra level realism: Manual control of sails, though could be remotely operated or operated by crew member, sailing varying depending on wind speed, direction can change based on region, storms blow wind so intense water can get in or damage the sails....
Thats where there's
D I F F I C U L T Y
I expect it would. I just like being able to go where I want to. It's a game, not a simulator.
If I want that level of ship control, I'll play naval action.
Yuh makes sense.
If you do I'd play Sailwind. No combat, but fun to play lol
I did enjoy naval action for a bit. The proper use of upwind fighting tactics and properly executed turns into the wind to stay there was fun... For a little while.
What I'd like to see in Windrose is a system that's not "bigger is better" for ship balance. It'd be nice if they all had a place as a valid choice late game.
If I give it art on a line, will you give it a classification?
No xD
Stick 30 people on it and at least idk 8 cannons then ill give it a classification
My art is too small
š
I guess I can... Idk, magnify the art?
It looks like a shoe though. Imagine the rowboat
I want to be able to make a "X of the line" joke with my Gunters and Proas.
Put 20 to 28 cannons on it and room for to 40 crew and ill give it 6th rate
A single deck frigate
I think these are my on-hand frigate examples rn
... and half a (an?) FNC
What does single-deck mean?
Jokes aside I figured this might be a good place to make my ship pixel art a little more accurate at a foundational level, since many here seem to know what they are talking about.
Think thereās plans of adding galleons right?
Plans on adding that, a merchant ship, barque, and a 1st ship of the line man o war
1st rate? Thatās crazy
Ik this a game but that is so impractical for pirates to use lmfao
800+ pirate crew size lol
where is that at
It just looks like something they did out of boredom. Shovel to raise the land, then probably 300 wall torches inside the cauldron.
Maybe the endgame isn't being a pirate anymore. Maybe we become a cruise line captain.
I'm already ahead of ya. My brig is the Costa Concordia.
Next thing you know we've got quests where we have to safely provide a voyage for an NPC from one island to the next
I'd be down for a couple escort missions tbh
Getting those friendly boats doing more would be great
<@&1354821664998817822>
Do you plan on running aground on every island u see?
To be fairā¦for a pirate game I have yet to actually commit an act of piracy we fight pirates but we donāt rob merchants or hold people for ransom or raid towns
Quite a few pirates turned pirate hunter if the incentive was high enough. š
A full pardon, a letter of marque, and bounties to collect would be plenty for me!
Privateers basically
This is Epic History's guide to HMS Victory, one of the most famous warships in history, and flagship of Vice Admiral Nelson at his decisive victory over the Franco-Spanish Combined Fleet at Trafalgar in 1805. In this episode we look at the composition of naval crews, and how they sailed, fought and lived aboard a warship like Victory.
Thank yo...
Or turned to privateering
From what I've heard, privateering is more "This is official piracy because its against my enemy"
Yeah pretty much, privateers are essentially naval mercenaries hired by nations to go attack enemy shipping for a salary
Which doesn't (necessarily) include attacking other pirates.
True
And many privateers turned into pirates when the country they work for decided they didnāt wanna pay them anymore
Or in William Kiddās case he went a little too far and got acccused of piracy
Wasnt that what basically made the golden age of piracy?
How it started yea
If u havenāt u should watch this guys series on Nelsonās battles theyāre awesome
yaaargh o7
I have found my Pirate Paradise
Ooo where is that
We are privateers
But we have no charter
It's a random island, everyone has one somewhere in the flathills portion of the map.
Nor a letter of marque
We were working for the east India trading Co in the start of the game. Carrying a relic for them and that's why blackbeard attacked us.
Columbus's something or other.
Whyās it always gotta be the EIC behind everything ā ļø
Cause moneyyyyy
Though that wouldnāt make us privateers cuz we donāt have a letter of marque letting us attack enemies of England
I mean the world is fictional history. I forget where I read it, but yeah we're not actual pirates. Though I wouldn't be opposed to like a uh.. reputation system where you can choose one side or the other and it changes who allies with us and who is against us.
Like you said earlier. There's no merchant vessels to hit, no towns to raid, not a whole lot of piracy goin on. But we are damn sure destroying other pirates and allying with other privateers. (The buccaneers and brethren of the coast)
Id even like the ability to align yourself with one of the factions in the game for unique rewards.
Yeah I mean the game just came out in early access so itās not surprising
I'm sure it'll flush out.
Iād like to get a letter of marque for England so I can go raid the frenchies š“āā ļø
What I know so far is that blackbeard is on some messed up black magic.
Which is why Hands who I think is a lieutenant in Blackbeard's crew is all undead and zombified.
I can almost guarantee you we will eventually get ghost ships and there will be skeletons and more undead in the Ashland's as we saw glimpses of it in the first trailer.
Blackbeard is on his necromancer phase
Also, consider the potential to be able to align with pirate hunters.
Bounty Hunters...
That'd be awesome
Give up the whole main quest for another main quest, and help exterminate everyone.
Basically rush the Frenzied Flame ending.
Mine is similar. Just finished building it, now I can finally play the game š

With all the hints to Davy Jones in the lore blurbs? For sure
Yeah. Mr. John Doe walking around in our base looking like a thin Dracula lookin kinda guy that speaks Latin is totally trustworthy and can be trusted with my coffee supply. UNLIKE MY DOCTOR.
I apologize for sharing something a bit unusual here⦠but some discoveries simply arenāt meant to remain silent.
While exploring the game, I found myself wondering: could there be such a thing as a truly perfect ship? Iāve always admired vessels with castle-like sterns ā imposing, almost like floating fortresses. To me, the peak of that beauty had always been the Queen Anneās Revenge from Pirates of the Caribbean.
But then, I came across something unexpected.
The galleon Nocturne.
Created for a little-known film from the 1980s, it may not have achieved fame⦠but it achieved something greater: the essence of naval artistry. A ship that doesnāt impress only through size or firepower, but through presence ā as if it carried a soul of its own.
And it made me wonderā¦
How many incredible creations are lost to time simply because no one looks twice?
Perhaps this is one of them.
I share this not just as a curiosity⦠but as inspiration. Maybe something like this could one day find its way into Windrose.
Because sometimes, the greatest creations are born from forgotten inspirations.
Pimped out frigate
At least it isn't similar lore as POTC. I mean, its somewhat similar, a group of general pirates, but in POTC it's from around the world. To be fair, we don't know exactly how much was in Tortuga, considering what happened to it.
Imagine seeing octopus-face in this game? lol
Side note was anyone else hella underwhelmed when they first got to tortuga? I was expecting a functioning town hopefully in the future we get a quest to go liberate it from the undead
Imo sorta the point. And it was foreshadowed with how the town was blockaded and you barely escaped. With the undead roaming around with what we find out are from him, what do you expect happened to Tortuga if not that? Plus, it makes the sea shanties about tortuga about hope of getting it back lol
The fact that he's the firgurehead of the blackbeard ships also kinda gives hints. I know I typed that wrong, I'm just very lazy
that is insane
I really like the clay tiles. Combined with planks and a bit of stoneworks you can really conjure up a ramshackle atmosphere
Why does that look like disney infinity?
Or SOT?
Hey everyone, I'm a Writer and wrote some lore in story form, as a captain's log of my character's journey.
Feel free to read my character's lore so far if you want lol, just got a passion for this stuff.
Who do the statues at the altars represent? The priestess? Itzeltek priests? Senkamati deities?
broh i just want so bad some sharks, whales and ocean life... maybe a kraken ? ocean feels so dead and empty.... im loving the game tho
Arenāt all the maps the same?
Same islands random placement
Ooo okay thank you
I think the maps are procedurally generated but the islands and their shapes are the same so itās just different locations
I believe the islands are procedurally generated as well. They have similar shapes because some aspects are fixed, particularly the PoIs.
Yeah Iāve heard that everyone has that island with the bay and smaller internal island somewhere on their maps and POIs r gonna be the same
Yep, but there's always small detail differences.
If you do the Spanish graves quest they give a lot of hints that Davy Jones is after them & the Brethren quest line has us theorising the artifacts are keys to the locker.
Iām thinking that we take down Blackbeard-maybe curing our slow turn to undead after-and suddenly Davy Jones is a threat because we possess all three keys.
The context to that's from a deleted scene from the first movie lol
Please remind me how the language of senkamati is called? I'm pretty sure I heard the name, but cannot replay the dialogues with John Doe to recall it.
Yeah but they do explain it a bit in the 2nd movie
Hey, anyone able to trade me a lvl 11+ Reliable Musket? I've looked everywhere, still haven't found one. LMK what you want in trade
As much as some here are jokingly using the Disney version of the character, i doubt it's meant to be the same Davy Jones in some of the journals. Especially when the ones that do go over him, describes him more in the manner as how the devil himself get's portrayed in a lot of old folk tales. Which makes sense, because of how the devil often in many of those stories in different countries, goes by different, local names, and some of them having him get tricked out of the soul he was after.
which does give me the comedic mental image of the Devil going over all his differently named business cards.
šæ "Wow, I can't believe I still have this card. It's been centuries since I went by that name."
I'm imaginging some amalgamation between eldritch horror and undead devil when I picture the Davy Jones in this game mostly due to the Blackbeard figureheads-assuming they're even connected to Davy Jones.
well, the Blackbeard Frigate figurehead makes me think of Cthulhu.
Same. I could be reaching, but it could be influential to the design of Davy Jones- it's intimidating as a devilish sea spirit to take the visage of an undead kraken.
Well itās definitely not the same Davy jones becuz then Disney would sue for copyright infringement
Like I wouldn't be surprised, given the monster direction of the game, that Davy Jones takes some sort of eldritch design. Especially given the Priestesss & Hands designs.
So where do you find the building thingys to make those walls and roofs at?
Plaster walls & clay tile roofs are from the people of tortuga iirc
er. limestone
you buy them from the "people of Tortuga" seller. Usually those pieces iirc cost 10 of those gold coins. (later pieces costs 10 coins more, so 20 and then 30 for the final pieces.
Ah gotcha, i've got like a couple hundred of those from my friends so i'll fs buy them, thanks you two!
look for the guy standing next to the blue banner with a fortified tower logo on it.
that's the logo of the "People of Tortuga" faction.
When you offer up 20 meat and 3 ritual oils at the Ancient Village Altar, doesn't that make you a worshiper of the Senkamati gods? You might be resurrecting their ancient religion with these sacrifices and rituals and awaking their gods which in turn could spell a cursed outcome for your character akin to the priestess. Pirates are prone to curses.
I'll admit to some ongoing bemusement that Assassins' creed of all game series has the most accurate portrayal of Blackbeard in... basically all fiction.
Apparently Stede bonnets generally accurate to his real version too
a bit funny how Windrose has Bonnet's ship be named "Royal James", when he apparently only named his ship that after he had gotten pardoned, and after he and Blackbeard parted ways on some rather 'bad terms' (as in, coming back to find that Blackbeard had sunk most of his pirate squadron, which Stede's ship was a part of. All the loot was gone, and most of the supplies from Stede's ship was taken as well.)
Yeah and here heās a loyal lieutenant to Blackbeard lol
Real stede was basically just a wealthy guy who got bored and decided to play pirate lol
When i first read Stede Bonnet's name in the brethren questline, i couldn't help but think of the comedic retelling of Stede's pirate lifestory from Internet Historian:
POV: you are stede bonnet
Stede Bonnet as he get's beaten up by pirates in Windrose:
"I hate being a pirate. it's not fair."
PSA: Truffle believes in No Quarter and will kill all surrendering pirates after you successfully win a boarding.
Truffle is the most pirate hunter of pirate hunters
You mean you donāt do that yourself in the first place? Lol
Gotta leave some alive to tell the tales
Except when we get back on our own ship the enemy sinks like a rock and nobody swims out lol
Might as well spare them the drowning
naaaaaah
Nah I want the rest of em speculating why so many ships are mysteriously disappearing without a trace
For you detail geeks
some video to show you the real way they made ropes for sailships

When built, the Ropery at @dockyardchatham was the longest brick building in Europe. One of Britainās first true factories, this Grade I listed building is one of the most important in Britainās industrial and naval history.

Cap.. is it me or are you emitting a tad of negativity?
It was related to a scammer
The mrbeast crypto scam thingie
well i was a tad nervous due to you swinging 1 of the 2 dev tools that scare the living daylight out of ppl right after a post of me...
This server's been getting that scam about five times a day. So they're having to whip that bad boy out quite a lot.
It was above this message before being deleted
does anyone know where I can find the original sea shanties online from back when it was still Crosswind? i liked that version of Rolling Home and Rolling Down to Old Maui
are you referring to the trailer versions or something else
how do people even fall for those
They're in this playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLW250uNvfh74WiSxqxssTFHuqccQRHAe9
Suggestions for Gameplay Depth and Content Variety
I am not entirely sure if this is the right platform, but since I strongly believe in the potential of this game, I wanted to share my ideas to help enhance the experience. Here are my suggestions to make the world of Windrose more immersive and vibrant:
- Guests and Workers: Dynamic Camp Life
Currently, guests are functional for main quests, and workers provide minor production bonuses. To breathe more life into the camp:
Side Quest System: If these characters stay at our camp, we should be able to receive personal side quests from them.
Unique Rewards: Completing these quests could reward players with unique blueprints for weapons, outfits, or rare equipment, encouraging deeper interaction with the camp's inhabitants.
- First Mate and Crew Mechanics
To increase our dominance at sea and add strategic depth, the following mechanics could be implemented:
The First Mate and Treasure Hunting: First Mates could provide us with treasure maps based on myths or rumors they hear at alliance islands or during voyages. These treasures could contain anything from common resources to rare, high-tier blueprints.
Fleet Management and Strategy: We should be able to assign a First Mate to one of our other ships so they can accompany us at sea. During naval combat, we could give them basic tactical commands (e.g., "Target specific ship types"), adding a layer of strategy to ship battles.
Crew Specializations: To make the crew more than just background characters, we could hire specific crews with small bonuses, such as faster cannon reloading or increased melee combat efficiency.
- The Camp Companion: The Parrot
Adding a parrot to the camp would serve as both a flavorful element and a unique quest mechanic:
The parrot could mostly talk nonsense, but obsessively mention its former pirate owner's legendary treasure. It might send the player on several "wild goose chases" to different islands, but for those who persist, it could eventually lead to a genuine, unique item.
- Decoration and World-Building Objects
To reinforce the pirate theme, I suggest adding more ship-related decorative objects to the building menu:
Ship Wheels & Anchors: Three variants for each (Intact, Broken, and Mossy) that can be placed at different angles.
Rowboats: Three versions, including seaworthy ones and broken ones for land decoration.
Shipwrecks: Modular shipwreck parts (bow, stern, and mid-section) that can be placed at various angles. This would allow players to design much more creative and atmospheric bases.
Ship Docking System: A system where we can assign our unused ships to a specific docking object at the pier, keeping them permanently moored and displayed at our base.
@haughty summit i think some of the guests and hire stuff is already something planned by the devs. like the guy one can hire who gives a boost to the blackpowder production, has a quest listed when hiring him, but that isn't yet implemented in the game.
Well, I hope they keep making more of those missions...
Do the devs ever plan on making this pvp?
Hasn't been ruled out, but it's not a priority.
Also they did in the past.
It was originally an mmo pvp before they changed it into a single player pve
It was originally called Crosswind.
Do you think we'll ever see the british/french/spanish
I mean I understand the difficulties of making it MMO pvp, but yeah we haven't had realistic pirate game and this is the closest so far.
Splitsie did a video when it was meant to be an MMO, before the series with CaptainShack.
Learned an interesting thing about lemons and limes in the pirate age. Apparently lemons were initially created by mistake from crossbreeding a bitter orange and a citron, but they became extremely popular because they were excellent at curbing and preventing scurvy. The British navy ran with it until they realized limes were easier and cheaper to grow. However, limes actually have less vitamin c than lemons, so they were less effective at treating scurvy.
We already have limes, could be fun to get lemons as a higher grade food material in a later zone
As a little reference to history =]
The Legendary Pineapple. So our doctor can mix it with medicinal herbs. >.>
Turns out a lot of modern produce is from decades of selective breeding u should look up what watermelons looked like in the past really weird and the ancestor of corn is really pathetically small and inedible
Look at Potatoes. When the Inca where growing them they still had their poison from the nightshade family. They had to bred them to remove it from the root bulbs.
Eggplants look wildly different than its original version
And Banana's I think use to have seeds and I know they were a lot smaller and denser before we got our hand on them
Didn't they use to be small and bright white? or am I thinking of another veg?
And what we have today is not necessarily representative of what was common just 100 years ago.
Man. The only one that sort of looks like the modern version is the Banana and even that is a stretch.
Yeah we had different cultivars for different plants too that have been phased out for whatever reasons
Modern bananas are only like that cuz we inbred them so much they canāt even reproduce naturally lol
Ya. the Banana's we have today isn't the one that was farmed in mass a while back. The flavour you get for banana milkshake is the flavour of the banana that was almost wiped out
Doesn't help each is a clone and if one get a rapidly spreading infection it's another strain that is going to be wipped out
Hereās another āwild typeā banana ancestor
Size doesnāt mean everything guys š
||They guy she tells you not to worry about||
||yeah but the big guy's infertile...||
lol
Honestly cavendish bananas tho are so overrated theyāre filling but flavorless we should popularize other banana cultivars
I cannot stand the texture of Banana. Don't mind the taste but the texture is just bad to me
Fair enough
Kinda a miracle we even have corn
That teosinte looks barely worth the effort yet people still bothered with domesticating the thing
Corn is even funnier when you know that popcorn isn't a new invention but something that has been around for almost 10k years
Interestingly enough corn isnāt the only vegetable that can be popped it just happens that popcorn is the globally popular one
Probably because itās the best one to snack on
Ya. Take it, you've also seen that short when the guy pops 4 others that can also pop
lol yeah
Kind of intresting what he does with them
Yeah but I can see why corn would be the superior option for popping the others are either not good enough or just not grown in enough quantities
Probably also doesn't have the same ability to be ground down into flour as easily
True corn is just a super crop honestly
Wow culture happened here
So nice
what's the lore reason behind the conquistador helmet not being a morion helmet but a sallet?
question for the dev!
any chance in the future to have access to an editor tool to make costum maps and such?
Good question, but understand that the maps are procedurally generated around handmade PoIs in specific configurations. This leads to what we see across different maps: largely similar islands, with different specific features, scattered in a random arrangement. I'm not sure how much custom editing you could really achieve on top of a system like that. Maybe altering some of the generation parameters?
it would be nice to have some generation parameters .... average island size, island grouping, max poi's per island that sort of thing
Yeah... That's all totally fixed. The shape, size, and PoI distribution is the same across maps generated. Only the exact position of the islands and small details of coastlines and such vary. It would be interesting to see some of that change up a little more.
so i feeded my alt a free frigate.. and i still got the quest get a bigger boat...
how am I suposedly to get bigger boat then friggate_ just my chronoticals are janked up boss...?
<@&1354821664998817822>
?

That's supposed to be quest to fix the broken ship on a beach that will be your first Ketch.
When in doubt, follow the quest marker location.
lore should make frigate bigger then ketch
It's just a quest every charater gets. When you break progression you can't expect a fixed quest title to adjust.
can't I?
it does make it ironic...
get a more tiny ketch... would make my work worth!
Super legit canon lore: The Kraken roams the seas š
So Im sure its been discussed but not only is there Francois Arnaud (Heated Rivalry anyone) Im very sure when the ship crew is idling and that one guy yawns then starts whistling its Pink Pony club...
o7 small question: after kiling priestes and finish last main quest what is avaible it not bring any reward, drop ? and is just a kiling ?
What you think about this points ?
Add NPC inhabitants similar to Conan Exiles to make the playerās village feel more alive and dynamic
Introduce a buildable tavern structure that attracts visitors over time
Allow visiting NPCs to occasionally bring rare or unique goods for trade
Create a system where the village evolves and feels populated instead of static
Add the ability to hire musicians for the tavern
Enable hired musicians to perform music on the playerās island, enhancing atmosphere and immersion
Add a mission table system for managing a personal fleet, allowing ships to go on expeditions, gather resources, and complete timed missions
Allow players to assign NPCs to automatically gather resources such as wood or mine iron
Introduce trade route management between islands, where resources are transported automatically
Make trade ships physically visible traveling between islands for better immersion
Add a dock or harbor station where ships depart from and arrive, reinforcing the feeling of a living world
Implement a system similar to Anno 1800, where logistics, routes, and visible trade ships play a key role in economy and world-building
How do you even give another character a boat you built?
u can do it trough multiple evinues
Which are...?
having a friend or having a dedicatedserver, or just hop into someones game and make a stash
As I understand it, it's just a matter of mats and enough piastre and rep to buy the plans. All of that can be provided to a brand new character with ease on a server.
||John Doe|| is either Death, Charon, Davy Jones, or all of them.
<@&1354821664998817822> We have a compromised account sending phishing links here. #š¦ālore-zone message
Only ping a mod that's online please
minimodding is so corny
Except it's what they asked before.
then let them ask again lol
cornball
Tbh I was thinking they were Blackbeard. There's definitely something up with them though.
My own reasoning for Blackbeard was just due to narrative direction and BB seemingly being absent from the world. Not even the slightest hint of them being active. What exactly gave you the thought they are one (or all) of those?
See? That's a solid little theory, but my reasoning is that John Doe is also the name Death went by in that one Brad Pitt movie XD
not sure if itās been asked yetābut do we know what exactly the new ship variant will look like? I heard itās a galleon, but iām not sure what variant theyāre going to go for. East india galleon, manila galleon or a Fluyt.
Hi. They've stated they are okay for pings like these for phishing links multiple times.
There's a ship of the line that is in the data files. Some pictures of it have been floating around over the last few months. Haven't seen a galleon, but those ship designs were pretty outdated by the time you're seeing frigates like the one in-game roaming around.
it's okay, i found someone who datamined and found that my favorite ship was in it! thanks for the reply though!
Yeah... There's no telling if things that have been datamined will actually make it in game or not.
I'm a little disappointed that the current ship lineup is a straight up bigger is better situation, but seeing as how I like frigates, I'm not too upset. I just hope that with the ashlands release we don't see another shove into a bigger slower ship.
knowing that they are black flag fans, they're definitely going to add the one i'm thinking of ||Man o' war||. Other than the Galleon which was officially planned.
I'd love to see your source of "official plans".
I said planned, not āhereās a dev blog with blueprints.ā If you need that level of proof for a passing mention, thatās on you.
but if you're so inclined: https://game.wiki/windrose/roadmap?utm_source=chatgpt.com
The quotes feel a bit over the top for a casual observation, but yeahāitās been referenced as future content
You're the one claiming a galleon was "officially planned". The supposed source you provide is not only from an unofficial website, but even has chatgpt in the url. š¤£
Bro it's not that deep. Iām not going back and forth over wording and URLs for something that was just a passing comment.
š¤£
Question: Are the islands that the treasure map chests spawn on, locked to that treasure map? Or can the treasure chests spawn on any island without POI? Or, can those islands spawn without a chest at all?
Don't claim it's official without an official source to back it up.
hey man whatever helps you sleep at night. I'll say what i want. And i didn't claim anything š
They arenāt permanently locked to specific islands. The treasure map determines the spawn location for that chest instance. Islands can exist without chests, and chests only appear when a map is active for that location
planned when it was PVP.
seriously, youāre making yourself look foolish and ignorant.
we do not know what the next ship plan is cause they havenāt told us.
and yeah, people are right to distrust chatgpt derived answers! ever hear of burden of proof, buddy?
āim not lying cause i triggered u which means i winā ahh comment ngl dude
Youāre all taking this wayyy too seriously. I'm out lmfao
technically, the frigate would be a fourth-rate ship of the line going off of crew count, tonnage, and displacement, aye?
for the record in no way shape or form i have never quoteed that or claimed anything, merely said. That is all lol
Donāt let the rigging catch your heels on the way off the deck!
Fifth rate at best. Not a ship of the line at all.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rating_system_of_the_Royal_Navy#Fourth,_fifth_and_sixth_rates
But that's all contingent on the British rating system.
Which brings up a really interesting question Iāve been wondering about- do we happen to know what national yard style the ships are meant to be?
The ketch and brig look Spanish in design and construction but the frigate looks British, in a lot of ways- I figure the designs are literally BotC āoriginalsā in the lore, but Iām wondering about their origins beyond that
Like, what designs in history were drawn on for each ship specifically
I know I've seen statements tot he effect that the ship of the line that's been seen is based on the Royal William. Can't recall if I've seen anything on the others.
thatās the ship that has models for it in the game files/the one from the PVP build era, Iām guessing?
Yes.
So noted! Thank you, I appreciate the info.
oh, hell yes, thank you.
āiām not lying because i triggered you, which means i winā ahh comment, ngl dude ā thatās the most Reddit stuff Iāve seen, holy hell. I canāt even blame the dude for leaving the discord. Bro was just excited about ships, and yāall dogpiled him like that behaviour isnāt allowed here. Like relax, ya grandpasānobodyās stealing your war medals over fictional ships. Dude pulled up excited and yāall treated him like he violated the Geneva Convention. Dust off the attitude and let people enjoy life.
It was because they kept saying disingenuous stuff and instead of having a conversation they were just doing the stupid Bill OāReilly āi never said that, I never said thatā thing.
Like they were more focused on being right than speaking accurately or learning anything.
Also they were using chatgpt to get their responses instead of actually conversing with us themself which is just. Insanely disrespectful to other peopleās time.
Does the game take place on actual Earth, or just an Earth-like world that has some of the same countries in it?
There are several real world factions and people, like the Bretheren, Blackbeard, and places like Tortuga, and England, but the actual area we play in is randomly generated, so it doesn't exist in the real world, despite there being a Tortuga in it. Not to mention the things in the game that are not historically accurate. So begs the question if it is the setting is the "real planet earth" or just another world with many similarities.
Alternate Earth 1700's
Reportedly earth but with magic in the form of the undead and everything.
Assuming the globe decoration is canon, then we can clearly see America on it, the rest of the globe is to blury to make out any details
well, Charon supposedly exits and long with Davy Jones
So the actual area that the game takes place is also one of the things that take place, since the geography differs heavily from where real world Tortuga is, although America is pretty much as-is in real world, once again assuming that globe item is "lore accurate"
Not to mention the significant change of Tortuga being gone.
So who are the real world counterpart of the ||plague cursed people||?
Spanish, Aztec and maybe Inca
But if you are talking about the swamp people. More than likely Aztec or some other civiliation near them. If you take all the temples and snake themes about the place
Might also be the Maya
True!
Though makes me wonder if the title of "Plague Witches" is something our characters/outsiders might call them, and they are more akin to shaman or priestess?
At least to others in their society
Could even be the Inca's but that would be a hell of a long trip to get from present day Haiti to where the Inca ended up.
Hmm...are there any other maps of the entire world in the game besides the globe decoration?
It is still a stretch whether that globe decoration is "canon" the world we're playing on, since it is just as likely they just found a world texture and slapped it onto the item
It also appears that the "TAĆNO" where the closest indigenous people in Hatian area, but they're not known for the type of architecture we see in game š¤
So, Geographically Mayans and Aztecs are the nearest to the game's settings, while possessing the similar architecture are the swamp people
It is a really nice experiance, a really cool theme for a pirate game. I hope we get to see a Kraken, Davy Jones, The Pirate Queen (which I think was from China), Japanese Pirate ships or such types of inspirated pirate crews or ships.
I hope we as the Character can get a Man O'War sized ship with 3 - 4 rows of cannons on each side. This would be really cool in the long run.
I wish we can get some massive islands that could be inspired by the Pirates of the Carribean, I am referring more to the one movie were Jack Sparrow is captured by native. Islands with heights and natural rock bridges of some sort, waterfalls, bigger lagoons and stuff like this would make this game fantastic.
I love the whole concept, there is just ONE issue. Some enemies are just to hard to get by in early levels, so difficulty or damage has to be reduced, but at the same time I think its nice as it is, BUT maybe health for player should be increased a bit more from the beginning instead 2-3 bars, which is a very low amount in my opinion.
I do think this game will be good. It would be cool getting more characters or people based on true pirates or legends. Would love to see some Pirates of the Carribean inspired stuff. Just dont make this look like Sea of Thieves more than it already is, this feels like a more adult version of Sea of Thieves, make it stay like that, and In overall I think its way better than sea of thieves, they have almost no boat variants available Sea of Thieves. I think boats should be focused on, so please gives a variety of boats to craft or buy or acquire, like boats based on legends and so on.
I also know we have a lot of crafting and building options, but trust me, there is always need of more in all base building and crafting games, so I hope we get even more.
Hopefully it gets better and the devs take my advices or such.
This is not the place to suggest new stuff.
This is
We dont want another sea of thieves though. We want Windrose! š“āā ļøš

Damn wtf is this argument I missed out on earlier
Not sure if im in the correct channel but besides all the ships battles ( which i love) what about a giant legendary shark boss and Kraken to battle ? just a thought or is it possible to encounter the flying dutchman for legendary drops ( weapons and parts to build a legendary ship?) but these boss may not drop the same loot all the time of course so we get to try fight them for loot once a week
thanks! š
- https://windrose.support/ideas
- how about instead of asking AI to regurgitate info incorrectly, you actually recommend some legit sources
since ashlands are coming, will there be a skeleton curse for ur crew and player or smth? would be awsome for roleplaying
- Helpful link. I wasn't aware of this section.
- Unnecessary.
Artificial idiocy is extremely unnecessary.
What do you think about this type of companions? I wanted to get your thoughts before suggesting the game developers.

plague hunters appear
Something to note that could be done, which I assume is what they will be doing.
Long Ben has a dialogue option for rumors. There should also be an option of "current events" something like that.
These missions would be like Skyrim, replayable, simple missions.
- Escort Transport/Merchant Ship
- Rescue Ally Ship (Being ganked by BB ships)
- Transport Goods (There could be a in-game economy where you'd Sea Truck)
- Steal Missions (From BB Ships/Camps)
- Assassinate BB Named Captains
- Legendary Battles (Like in Black flag, legendary ships)
- Collect Resources
- And much more
Oh nice thank ye matey
that could be a possibility but I would like to pick between each of those instead of it being random like skyrim
lol
Pirates of the Caribbean curse would be sick tho
Iād wanna just recreate the underwater march for the aura
I need this game to release on console!!! Anyone know if and when?
Devs wanna get this out on PC first so like a few months up to 2 years lol but they arenāt ruling out a console release
What I've read indicated that a console release is desirable, but will be closer to 1.0 full release. Early access is expected to be 1.5-2.5 years, so you do the math. My money is on it being at a couple years.
Plague Enemies the second they smell me near resources

Not a huge fan of the Mystery of the Expedition quest and associated Memories of a Ghost lore entries implying, if not outright stating that ||Christopher Columbus was some kind of noble hero||. Obviously there's a lot of ahistorical stuff going on with the game in general, but that guy specifically was such an enormous monster that gets lionized and mythologized in real life that it's particularly galling to see it repeated in fiction.
with any luck we will meet him as a revived undead monster and get to finish him off
You ever play the first Path of Exile? there's a questline in there where you meet a captain named Fairgraves. Decent way to handle a story about that kind of guy, I think. But tbh I think it'd be better if they just rewrote that bit to not include him.
the setting matters, i imagine that in a true historical narrative, characters from that time probably thought better of him
Everyone is tired of hearing about this stuff. Especially in video games. Youāre not virtuous for your post and nobody wants your politics in video games.
Why do you exist
Apparently even in history, Columbus was not universally liked after his return from the Americas. Especially with his subsequent voyages back which only made people dislike him even more. to the point that he eventually got arrested.
Juan de la Cosa, the narrator of the Memories of a Ghost lore entries, was a contemporary of his in real life. He was on the first and second expeditions, possibly the third, and drew some of the first world maps that included the Americas. Apparently Columbus himself didn't like the guy because, even though he was the owner of the Santa Maria and second in command of the voyage, he fled the ship when it ran aground.
That said, as Henrik pointed out, yeah Columbus was noted by his contemporaries as being egregiously cruel even for the time, which is argued to be why the Spanish crown removed him as governor of Hispaniola (modern site of Haiti and the Dominican Republic) in 1500
Like, no joke. Apparently the Spanish crown went "dude, you're being too racist" when Columbus tried to force the native populace of the Americas into slavery, because the Spanish crown viewed the natives as now being a part of the Spanish Empire and thus wanted them to be treated as subjects, and not be sold to the slave trade.
Imo that narrative is a little too exculpatory, even laudatory, of the Spanish crown, but it does get the point across
I mean, obviously forcing the native populace of the Americas to be subjects of the Spanish Empire (and thus be forced to live under Spanish rules and likely suffer cultural erasure as well) isn't good, but at least they went "hey, let's treat them as people" compared to what later colonists would end up doing when the settlers showed up in the northern part of the continent.
And it is really just says a lot about Columbus as a person when even the people back in those days looked at his actions and went "he's taking this way too far."
I just don't think they deserve an "at least the Spanish empire."
"Even the Spanish empire" at best.
Unless you have unlocked the swamps. Keep playing
I have? I've done everything in the current game. That's why I made the post, because I knew I had all the information.
Have you gone through all of Johns dialog? There is one in there that talks about Columbus and how much John hates him
Oh, John Doe in the camp? I thought I had been going through all of his dialogue but I don't recall seeing anything about Columbus.
Let me guess you supported changing Columbus Day. Sure letās ignore the fact that heās the reason why countries over here exist.
Seriously he opened the floodgate
The Vikings found the Americas long before Columbus ever did
I know more about this than you, please stop ignorantly yapping
Oh jeez really? Seriously Columbus was the one who opened the doors.
Pressing X to doubt, anyone can become an expert in history by reading it.
Here you go Wine
And if you lack the capacity to evaluate what you read and consider who wrote it, it's really easy to draw incredibly wrong conclusions from even supposedly simple texts.
Is the game not set in an alternate timeline where similar to PotC, events play out very differently compared to our timeline? Is that columbus the same way as the one we know? š¤ (Haven`t completed the quest yet)
Huh, I'm guessing that unlocks after doing Mysteries? I'll check it out in my game when I get home tonight, thanks!
Just know it's an alternate 1700's timeline
As i said. š¤·āāļø
But if history still hold up until the 1700's Columbus has already arrived at the Americas 3-400 years before hand.
If i read those entries right, there is mention of the undead... So supernatural stuff happened back then too.
The timeline could be very off.
Depends on how many undead were around at the time. If it was like now with everything just getting up and walking or just the swamps and the plague thralls
Will have to see what ashlands brings out in 6 months time
Hopefully new ships. Especially something like an east indiaman.
I love those ships.
I have a soft spot for British Ship of the line
I admire your confidence. If I ever need a condescending paragraph that dodges the topic, I know who to call.
You've given me no reason to think I shouldn't condescend to you
@nimble egret what ya think? Political?
Yeah I alluded to that in the original post. I don't agree with it as a take, generally, but it's much more worth engaging with as an idea.
Like I said, I think the real life lionization of the man makes doing so again here in fiction in poor taste
Itās literally history, the fact that Wire here is literally changing the subject and basically throwing insults because I speak the truth about history.
I... wasn't asking you? I think this is political, because that's the reason it's contraversial. Which is against the rules.
History will always be controversial.
No it's not. Reread them and then consider keeping your opinion to yourself when you're blundering into other people's conversations with a baby pokemon pfp
This is a discussion of the contemporary politics of colonialism in the Caribbean, which the rules explicitly allow
...really? I literally just pinged the mod to see if they thought it was against the rules, and I was referring to the talk about the statues. I'm not gonna talk any more, I said nothing about my opinion of that.
Yes I am familiar with cringing snitch behavior thank you
...did you read rule 3?
I have. Why are you violating it by snitch tagging to the mods? Really kills the vibe and makes me think less of you.
Maybe you don't realize that's what you're doing but it's pretty universally contemptible behavior
I do apologize if what I was talking about made you uncomfortable. And Iām sorry Wire here is being rude to you.
I am not gonna get involved any further, no use feeding the trolls.
Understandable, still Iām sorry you got dragged into this.
Literally walked into it themselves, no one dragged anyone
Anyway, Columbus was an ignorant, violent racist who would have condemned his entire expedition to death by royally messing up his math if he hadn't lucked out and ran into a whole other continent between Europe and Asia.
No part of his actions were in any way laudatory and I think it's in poor taste to make him out to be some kind of hero our character is following in the footsteps of just because he's a name people recognize.
That said, I was unfamiliar with the possible further context Cailco mentioned, and it may change how I think about the situation, but it probably won't.
@glossy oar this one's a scammer too.
At the same time condemning historical figures purely on the 'bad' things they had done during their lives or been associated it viewed through the prism of our modern 21st lens diminishes their significance or their exploits in history. People are complicated and no one is a saint, we are all flawed.
yeah... except even the Spanish of that time considered him a terrible person.
I don't think that argument holds water in the first place, but it doubly doesn't in this specific case where he was just an outright monster whose legacy has been reframed for political ends after his death
If you want to consider the whole man or whatever, you've got a lot of cheap gold paint to scrape off the statue first
Always exceptions to the rule. For sure. I was speaking more generally as opposed to Columbus specifically.
I kind of entered the conversation mid way through.
Many such cases
Columbus only really got his good name from the accidental discovery of the Americas (or more like 're-discovery', as the Northern Scandinavians stumbled upon the continent many years before, and promptly left when the Native tribes forced them out. And iirc, the Scandinavians who sailed to the Americas were from the colony they had set up in Greenland.) But Columbus ultimately burned that good name pretty fast because of his mishandeling of the colony that got set up, and his mistreatment of both the colonists and the natives.
Please follow the channel description guys and keep on topic, thanks!
Anything past this will be removed for now
The game's lore contains references to Columbus, you're going to have to be more specific about what's not on topic here.
Iām pretty sure Wire here is just trying to stoke the fire more.
Rules state that politics are to be left behind when having discussions.
Anyways, does anyone else wonder who this Order is that brought up by I think Benjamin Hornigold.
Since it's predominantly Spanish out there, probably Catholic... I'd say a Templar Order. Dedicated to god and not letting undead oopsies like this happen.
I'm happy to drop the topic for now, as I don't have anything new to say about it, but that doesn't seem to be the case unless I'm wildly misreading this?
"relevant to the game's setting or historical themes"
Oh, I might see the problem. I meant "contemporary to the time period of the game," not to us. But, like I said, happy to drop it for now.
do want to talk to the story director here, why again Blackbeard as evil?
cause honestly he's a swindler of a famous pirate without any direct kill counts
Appreciate it thanks.
I mean, the story isn't acurate to real life anyway. It's possible the artifacts drove him mad or smthn.
IMO give a twist that his fleet is the one being evil by spiritual ancient things, and all he want was an intimidating fleet but gets a lot of misunderstand commands......
honestly a nice Blackbeard especially when black flag got remade, would be a better pull for me to this game story
Tbf the story isn't the main focus of the game.
I'd say it's more focused on base building and combat personally.
(Could be wrong with that though)
Thinking abt it it actually is a pretty large focus... mb
The story does set the stage for all the zombies and such but the tone of the whole game is pretty much just "pop culture pirates" a la the Pirates of the Caribbean films. There's some interesting stuff in the side stories - Bitter Pill and the ||Ark|| stuff come to mind - but it's inherently gonna be just kind of vapid fun, which is mostly fine
Yeah, my point mostly. But there's also the main quest having blackbeards men and such.
Donāt get my hopes up
honestly all I want is El Gran Diablo to be Not at all what he sounds like
Absolute powerā¦
I do agree that a different take on Blackbeard would have been cool! Saying it feels generic or uninspired to make him out to be this cartoonish villain is a little too mean, the game doesn't have to be a masterpiece to be fun, but it is too bad.
I'd say the figurative ship has sailed on the idea, they'd have to redo a lot of already done work to change that now
5th region where you fight Davy Jones after Ashlands could be a thing but the game has pretty firmly put Blackbeard in the villain role
Even if not, it has the ability to bring up the dead with or without direct control.
How do we know some of the artifacts don't have corruptive properties?
They definitely do, but the game hasn't been telegraphing that kind of story direction at all. Blackbeard is a cartoonish arch villain, if a grim one, sacrificing probably hundreds of people for power
Point taken, an evil demon or some sort of evil thing could have taken him over.
Faair, all I'm saying is it probably wouldn't be that hard to make that change if they wanted to.
It would be a pretty hard swerve and narratively contradict a lot of what they've already established. I think it would be a bad move to try to make it more interesting in that way or totally surprise us now
The most interesting thing they could do in that way, imo, is have ||John Doe actually be a betrayed Blackbeard. Possibly using you for revenge.||
But that would contradict a lot of the existing setup and I think it would come off badly. Still, he's probably the best point in the story for an interesting twist of some kind
well... ||the theory that John Doe might be Blackbeard I feel would just create a lot of questions on what exactly Blackbeard's pirates are even doing then if they're not following his orders.||
|| Think about how his lieutenants aren't following his orders; like Hands stole the artifact from Richards and used it for his own gains-sacrificing similarly plagued sailors for his power. It could be too decentralized a power scheme. I'm definitely suspicious of John Doe, not sure if I would hop on the theory of he is blackbeard though. ||
||and I think it'd be probably too expected if they go that route and have... i don't know, maybe "Davy Jones" (as in, The Devil himself) be a disguised Blackbeard or something.||
Suppose they could do || John Doe -> J D -> D J -> Davy Jones ||
||eeeeh. Even that i feel is too obvious. It's the unfortunate effect of twist villains or the like in media. You just expect it more.||
Of course it's too obvious, but it's not like we're dealing with a literary masterpiece here
well, this is the game that has Stede Bonnet's renamed ship, the Royal James, even though timeline wise he did the renaming sometime after Blackbeard screwed him over and parted ways.
do yall think the upcoming ||galleon in the game will cost the same amount of resources as the frigate as a Mid/end game ship?||More firepower in exchange for mobility and speed
So just rewatched the POTC series again and The Swamp enemies remined me of The Flying Dutchman and her crew but instead of ocean creatures its the tree stuff that twisted the people to monsters.
The fact that they both are related to death powers is also cool.
I wish we could have Plague Arboris skins for Hulls and sails in the future that would be dope
Also a Flying Dutchman Boss fight hmm?
The drowned bear a resemblance to Jonesās crew too only theyāre mindless zombies instead of cursed bros
Having read through these now, myself, I think they mostly just support ||John Doe potentially being Davy Jones||, which would suggest that ||his vitriol for them is because they beat him somehow, and not as a criticism of the man and his actions.||
cool that it's there though, would have been easy to just not have any followup at all in the game yet
I just thought John Doe was Keanu Reeves.
Spoilers man.
Geez.
with also make it more accurate that Edward Low was The Most murderous pirate ever
From what Iāve seen of the screenshots itās an in between of the two with mixed firepower. I think it will have larger cargo space (think how the ketch has more than the brig), be slower, and have more hp
And what I mean by mixed firepower is that it looked like it had two cannon sizes on the deck. Within the fore and aft castle it had larger guns while the exposed deck was smaller
This would be logical considering those types of ships were mainly used to transport cargo/gold rather than frontline warships
||umm there is a galleon AND a Merchant ship in the files, so idk š i think the galleon will be used as a warship also.||
||true but galleons were used more like armed transports made to deter pirates or enemy ships obviously this is a game not irl so idk maybe it'll be like a merchant ship that's slightly better at combat? ||
Also just because there are ship types in the file doesnt mean they'll be used. I'm sure there's plenty in the files from when they were still Crosswind.
thats true lol, I dont see how a ||merchant ship|| would fit the pirate theme
Yeah. There's no merchants going on in the game. Between the blackbeard pirates and undead, there simply isn't anyone moving stuff except for the smuggler faction. And they spend the entire time getting chased by blackbeard.
There'd be no reason for us to have them, because we're simply not going from port to port, seeking good trade deals.
||literally, and also the ship as far as iv seen looked very strange Man O war sized with only 5cannons each on the side, and super empty looking. I think this is a scrapped idea that they forgot to remove probably :"D||
well. from what i recall ||at the end of the Brethren faction quest, after taking out Stede Bonnet's ship, the Royal James. Hornigold iirc said that merchant ships would probably start showing back up again now that Bonnet couldn't keep up the blockade. Again, if i'm remembering this right.||
Perhaps when more npcās are added theyāll be npc ships and weāll get to finally commit acts of piracy : D
@fallow canyon
Sorry for the ping, but you're the first active mod I saw XDD
It would, however, be interesting and entertaining (for some) to have running trade routes as an alternative to harvesting and mining as a means to building up wealth. Deal with pirates instead of boars, so long as the profit rate per hour is comparable to mining so it doesn't outright replace the current methods, that would be a fun addition.
Flaming cannonballs to windrose when devs?! š„
The ||merchant|| looks to me like an east indiaman and that is fun fact the same type as the black pearl from PotC.
East indiaman: (It would fit perfectly)
We already got their flag in the game whoās to say we canāt roleplay as a cutler Beckett in the future
(Please devs give us a colonial hat and cape š )
uhh ohh, the pearl looks MUCH smaller than this ||Merchant ship|| and slimmer and also, has more guns xD
Same type but those ships varied from one to the other and the pearl got armed up. Modifications to the ships that go past the 3 faction variants are a nice idea. š¤
In the 18th century there was very little standardisation.
Pirates often modified captured vessels to suit their needs.
yepp
There were also ships in pirate fleets that acted as hospital ships and pack mules.
lol
Typically slimming them... and making in smaller, and up arming them...
Indeed.
That would be a tall order to have that an option in the game but still a nice idea.
So... thats answered why the pearl looks so much smaller and slimmer, but has more guns.
@static spruce
I think so.
oh
damn
didnt knew abt that
Bc it doesn't really make sense for the pirates to have massive ships like that that aren't very well armed, but they can capture them. And in some lore the Pearl used to be a merchant vessel.
It is a bit like turning a car into a combat vehicle. remove the doors, add a machine gun and rigs for bags and ammo canisters. ^^ In some parts of the world today this can be seen.
ah yea thats true
Same idea hundreds of years ago.
yet somehow blackbeards ship was a heavy galleon
guess bro was just built different
A big armed vessel has the intimidation factor.
And can act as a loot nexus for smaller assisting vessels.
true, bro was pretty famous of his "Intimidation" methods :"D
I feel like east Indiaman is more like a general term for any merchant ship that operated under charter with European colonial corporations not necessarily a defined type
lighting his fkn head on fire xD
Also in general having a smaller ship with a lighter draft means getting away from authority more easily.
Not... a part of the East India Company?
Which is why most real pirates used sloops not big ahh galleons
That is why i added the image to refer to that specific looking ship.
The EIC is just one of many corporations that used āeast indiamansā
yea i was thinking the same
In this case at least according to Wikipedia east indiaman is more referring to āeast indiesā rather than the EIC itself
i learned just a couple of months ago that not all galleons where the same size lol, some where smaller than a frigate some where as same size as a man o war š
so yea learning about ships is pretty confusing
...they never had any standardizations.
Was the Queen Anne a frigate? And if we wanna be more specific it was a slaver ship
nah slaver galleon
Wasn't the Pearl a slaver galleon too?
yea i think yes
Hmm Wikipedia says frigate
But then again back then there wasnāt much in the way of regulations and standards
So idk
The British French and Spanish had different definitions for ships of the line for example
Slaver east indiaman doesnāt really roll of the tongue tho lmao
I just would love to have that ship type here, that really resembles the pearl in the game... So what shiptype is this? I usually see it referred to as an east indiaman. š¤
Think a Galleon, sorry didn't see that the Pearl added more guns from the first to the 3rd.
The guns vary wildly.
"Frigate that looked like a galleon" wow, didnt knew abt this
Galligate? š¤£
Yeah, but in general a pirate galleon would be better armed than a merchant galleon.
no clue atp
And also rarer to see
Yeah, but theres a pic of the Pearl in that.
Heck even the brig was a rarity among American and Caribbean pirates they were more popular in the old world pirates
Ok but likeā¦the pearl isnāt real š
I know, it is just the reason i would want that ship type which IS real.
I do know that.
As a pirate, probably having guns more like the Pearl.
I never complain about guns. ^^
Also in that 2nd image isnāt that the vasa?
That was a fully armed warship
In the POTC lore it makes more sense, I believe it being a slaver ship would have been on the way to Australia or smthn.
No, the vasa looked different and was WAY larger.
To the point of sinking because of way too high to be stable.
š¤·āāļø kinda looks like it but then again itās some goofy wooden model
Lmao when you make a ship so powerful and pretty but u forget to make it balanced and you leave your lower gunports open to flood
Good images are hard to get but it gets the idea across what ship type i mean.
š¤·āāļø
I still have no idea what name that type of ship has.
What one would properly call it.
Generic17thcenturymerchantship #300000
I think i'll stick with gallygate.
š¤£
Or something along those lines.
I know those.
Yep.
But i still would love a combat galleon or whatever that thing is i want.
Pearl lookalike.
I can't be the only one...
š¤·āāļø
^^
Maybe we can have a galley/frigate hybrid like the whydah galley
Misses the curve and large stern window row...
Even has the paddles from the first movie!
Sank off the coast of my state and to date has the record of the most real pirate treasure found in her wreck
^^
Thank god.
But i still wonder what the proper definition of shiptype for the pearl and ships like her would be. š¤ š¤ š¤ š¤
Officially? Merchant Galleon I'm pretty sure.
Or Slaver Galleon.
Yeah, there is that cut backstory of jack and how the pearl sunk/burned.
Which I personally subscribe to.
Specifically I believe it was the East India Company, explanation for his branding.
For example the extended dice game in the 2nd movie wouldāve been so much more iconic
And then the retcon with salazar...
Ew
yeah... Ewww...
Salazar felt like a lazy attempt at making another undead guy as villain like cmon
U had Barbossa u had jones try something new
Then they make Blackbeard who wasā¦aight.
Then they go back to undead dude with a grudge š
I think east indiaman galleon is the term for the pearl
What is a carrack? In comarison? ducks down to evade thrown objects ^^
Another 3-4 masted sailing ship used for trade and cargo transport
Mostly used by the Portuguese and Spanish
But by the 17rh century the galleon mostly replaced them
Something like this
Frankly they look kinda stupid to me
Rotund ahh ship
I guess we can narrow it down to a galleon variant then. š¤
Yeah no way weāre getting a carrack in this game unless it would be a npc ship type we can raid
(Privateering update when?)
"Remarkable... the last I saw of that ship she was on fire, a blackended hulk sinking beneath the waves... we had a deal Jack. I contracted you to deliever cargo on my behalf, you chose to liberate it." - Bekket
"People aren't cargo mate" - Jack Sparrow
"And you encured a heavy debt to raise her up again, didn't you?" - Bekket
The first movie actually has a situation where the Pearl would be disadvantaged if it came to pass. Specifically the Interceptor's almost able to get to lower drafts, where the Interceptor could go, but the Pearl couldn't.
Because its so large.
Yeah butā¦Pearl was cursed so thereby plot armor means it wins : D
It makes sense why it won, and I wouldn't really call it a curse.
Basically Davy Jones made it the fastest in the sea after bringing it up. Even able to go against the wind.
Well then thatās still a curse no?
Magically enhanced ship but it comes with a caveat in this case jack sparrow can only have her for 13 years
ig
And I did hear that the people in the area where Tia Dalma lives are actually the escaped slaves that was rescued by Jack. Why they were mourning him.
U mean his crew?
No, the slaves he freed.
I donāt remember seeing freed slaves in the movies but itās been a while
It was at the end of deadmans chest I believe is what they are talking about.
I figured too but I thought the sad ppl were his crew and the main characters
Honestly I'm a little surprised to hear the Pearl has any degree of historical verisimilitude. The films are such a "pop" version of everything they depict. I mean they're based on a theme park ride, y'know?
I didnt notice the people holding the torches were sad, but it makes sense if they were
Which is fun, and works for them and for this game, but doesn't bear much resemblance to actual history
Wellā¦yeah but this game is about as fantastical as POTC
But that image of the east indiaman model that @quick tiger provided is basically a cut down black pearl
Which makes sense for the Black Pearl to be that sorta ship.
Because it was origonally a slaver ship, and it would've needed to be more armed and such.
Yeah but also itās semi-believable for a pirate to use it because itās large enough to have some good firepower but not slow af like a ship of the line to the point that itās unusable for a pirate
Irl history Blackbeard Queen Anne's Revenge is a frigate, like Black Pearl in the movie (Black Pearl is a galleon tho), fast enough to outrun bigger ships and strong enough to outgun smaller ships
Yeah since the royal navy had fast ships too, some were designed to chase and hunt targets
But ya get the idea
I would love to have a big ship in the game tho, having a galleon would be fun
Yeah and also by the time Blackbeard was caught and killed he didnāt have the Queen Anne anymore since he beached it like a doofus
too bad he didn't get his moment of captain went down with the ship
But it would be great if the devs can introduce us to more ships
Allegedly I heard that a first rate was in the files but idk what that would mean for us as players
There're quite a lot of different variations of frigates and ship of the line during the Age of sail anyway
Maybe like a boss enemy ship or smth
Well, we know for sure that we will get a ship of the line for ourselves but what rate is unknown
āFrigateā was such a loosely defined term anyways for a medium sized warship
As unrealistic as it would be for pirates to have them that would be sick we can start re-enacting naval battles lol
Trafalgar in windrose
Our frigate with 36 guns is actually the 5th rate ship of the line in royal navy standard btw, so Im expecting our next ship will be a fourth rate
If Im correct, 3rd rate was the popular one back then, 2nd rate and 1st rate were quite expensive to build and maintain so the navy back then usually went with a bunch of 3rd rate
But I will always be a second rate pirate.
So then would the in game brig be equivalent to the 6th rate?
How many cannons it has btw? I forgot bc I dismantled it
Expensive and those ships needed a š© ton of manpower and were also slow af so they were only useful for shooting in lines hence āship of the lineā
14
so actually just barely under the 6th rate then
Yeah which explain why most navy stop at 3rd rate instead of going ham over 2nd and 1st rate ships
I wish the bigger ships would have some stern cannons would be nice to shoot back at an enemy passing you
Yeah, six rate is like 20-28 guns so it's quite smaller than that
Yeah I hope our next ship will get it
And then thereās the Spanish who build a 4 decker 1st rate with ~140 guns and all it did was stumble around and get captured at trafalgar without doing anything meaningful
Cuz it was so large it was sluggish af
I would say that if 1st rate ship is a boss, someone will be able to extract it and make it into a usable ship as a mod, that would be fun
Napoleonic naval war mod lol
Im not really into 1st rate, they are not practical irl, but in game yeah sure I do look dope on it lol
I would say 3rd rate is the most practical one
Big enough to fight any battles but isn't too slow like a turtle on the land
2nd rates would be neat just maybe more sluggish to use
1st rate ur basically just gonna be sitting around
I would say 2nd rate can be use for defensive but yeah 1st rate is such a waste for one ship
This is also why most naval battles of that era ended with one side either retreating or capturing the enemy after you pummeled them a bit because as it turns out shooting a giant hunk of wood with solid cannonballs doesnāt really sink it lol
Can you imagine the amount of in game resources needed to build a first rate š š
Imagine islands without a single tree
The tree destroyer, the wood terminator
Whole ahh archipelago gonna be deforested
This is what they needed for HMS victory
Imagine what they need for a whole navy
Ngl I crave for 3rd rate ship bc HMS Vanguard is my favorite ship of the line, peak 3rd rate ship of the line
usually pirates used sloops the only real different one was blackbeards. but they went for the small fast ships you didnt usually see brigs or frigate by pirates
Yeah cuz pirates r criminals at the end of the day
Theyāre there to rob u not wage war lol
Queen Anne's Revenege was a 5th rate tbh, so you kinda can consider it a frigate bc it carried about 36 guns
Tho some pirates still made use of larger ships brigs were more popular in the old world pirates if I recall correctly and Henry every the most successful pirate used a frigate the āfancyā
yes i said he was the exception
but he was the admiral of a fleet of pirates in sloops
Man everyone out here fawning over the Queen Anne when nobody remembers the Fancy š„
At least every didnāt beach his ship like a baffoon š
I prefer Queen Anne bc her color skeme is my desired skeme for my ship
The real one or the Disney one?
Donāt forget Bartholomew Robertās used a frigate too or something about that size
And he was leading a fleet of pirates too
The real one, dark wood, grimy, tbh the disney version is also cool ngl
(And was like 10 times more successful than Blackbeard)
black bart didnt use it for too long it was one he stole trying to get away
but the main point is individual pirates used sloops only a couple that admiralled fleets did big ones
and they were more for loot storage than battle
Thatās the other thing tho is that these famous pirates we always talk about usually had very short careers Blackbeard was only active for ~2 years as a pirate and Robertās was about 3 years
Yeah, no matter how great a pirate they were, nothing can out-match a royal army designed to send you to hell
Which is why I love the 4th movie of Pirate of the Caribbean so much
Cuz the Spanish were aura and kicked ahh?
They were organized too, not like a bunch of dirty gnomes on a ex-slaver ship lol
But yeah Spanish during the Age of Sail was insane
Unless u were Zheng yi sao where u had such a giant fleet of pirates and were so feared that you convinced the Qing dynasty to let you retire in peace and you run a illegal casino until you died wealthy and in peace lol
Yeah, pretty how 90% of the pirates end up, dead
They also had a fire theme in the movie
Henry every probably the wealthiest western pirate managed to vanish himself off the earth after stealing the Mughal treasure
And then yeah mostly everyone else died or got arrested
I would say died
Bc you know, arrested as a pirate usually ended up getting hanged back then
Btw, if we can get this baby in game it would be funny too
Not real but that would be š„
Probably be a pain to deal with the reloading time tho
Yea true
that's an AI scrape result though, gotta actually read the article for the real answer
Gang thatās from the royal navy museumā¦
Wikipedia backs it up too
6000 trees for HMS victoryās construction
Anyway they gotta give us more customization tbh, like the crew outfits, decorations, hull color, logos, banners etc, gotta wait for quite a while it seems
no that's a google ai scraper search result
I wish we could use the paint schemes interchangeably ie brethren hull colors with Blackbeard ship and vice versa
it's inherently untrustworthy. the actual answer might be the same, but that has no relevance to the complete waste of an LLM summary it spits out in order to steal traffic from the sites with the actual information on them
I think it's more than 2000 oak trees and about 63k pounds
Okay first off I used manual search not the AI google mod second off the information isnāt even wrong third off thatās how safari formats search results on google idk what to tell u dude
6000 trees roughly 90% is oak
that's irrelevent, unless you use -ai at the end of the search terms, google still provides an llm summary at the top, which is inherently untrustworthy
see: glue pizza, other examples
Hmmm, the wiki said 6000 trees too
Around 6,000 trees provided the timber for the ship and 150 men were required to assemble her. Of the wood used in her construction, 90% was oak and the remainder elm, pine and fir, together with a small quantity of lignum vitae. Six-foot copper bolts were employed to hold the frame together, supported by treenails for the smaller fittings.[16][17] As built, she measured 186 feet 0 inches (56.7 metres) along the gun deck, 152 ft 6+5ā8 in (46.5 m) at the keel, with a beam of 51 ft 7+1ā2 in (15.7 m) and a depth in hold of 21 ft 6 in (6.55 m).[18] This made her 2,16253ā94 tons (bm) and she displaced 3,500 long tons (3,560 tonnes).[18][19]
I typed ā-aiā to the same question literally same thing pops up
Respectfully I think youāre being pedantic here bro this isnāt information thatās hard to verify with other sources or information that would cause a huge issue if it was slightly off
the thing is that's in fact the right result sooooo?

And yea itās still correct information
Imagine crewing this thing tho
I already answered this? it doesn't matter if it happens to be correct, you can't trust that it is because an llm did it
Looks big on the outside but cramped af on the inside
And hygiene is like non-existent
Gross
Im not gonna dig deep into this arguement tho, but my point stand at as long as it is right, I dont really care it's from AI or not, I double checked anyway, so in this case the AI is right
Okay again itās not AI dude itās literally just how safari takes info from the site and puts it upfront
Literally just a copy paste of the websiteās info
Are we to assume then that ai wrote the royal navy museumās info?
I mean, it takes the source from wiki, by your meaning the wiki is wrong?
that's google doing that, not safari, and it's automated by an llm so you can't know that it actually copied it correctly without checking yourself first
making posting the copy a complete waste of time
you can't trust that stuff
I feel like it's pretty straightforward? don't just screenshot the google search results page, go through to the article itself and screenshot that
Okay I guess I canāt trust information on a royal navy ship stats from the royal navy themselves just cuz the front page isnāt a direct source?
Like again respectfully dude youāre being pedantic here
Believe me I dislike AI too
I'm not saying you can't, I'm saying that what you actually posted is not what that is
But this isnāt one of those cases
you posted a scraped excerpt purporting to be from that site, but you can't be sure it's actually what's on the site without clicking through
Itās literally just copy pasted from the site itās literally word for word
yes but you can't know that without checking inside first
at which point you may as well screenshot the site, and not the untrustworthy google results page
Also, it has a note that it shows which source it took from
yes, but you cant' know that it got that right without looking
because it's using an LLM to automate the process
Dude why are you having such a problem right now? I was just talking with viper about ship stuff and now weāre talking abt this?
Its not that deep bro
Chill out
Take a breather
AND doing so also strips traffic away from the people who actually provide that information, which means less ad revenue for them if they're using that model. it hurts the people who are helping you
I am clearly explaining a very simple concept to you so that you can learn and stop making a very avoidable mistake
Alright dude very noble of you
that's me
Now can I go back to talking with viper about ship stuff?
well since you asked, no.
Yeah idgaf
Lmfao what
You started this whole irrelevant conversation lol
Right anyways
@light wolf even if theyāre impractical can you imagine someone doing this in a multiplier server?
Thatād be the day windrose would be the greatest pirate game
Formation sailing
I knew the conversation would escalate
So Imma let the disagree be disagree and moving on
the devs said 4 is laggy enough
so if we have like 5 1st rate
I believe the server will have a meltdown
Well, I fought against 2 frigates once, the game started to lag out when I board them so they do have a big point
Having that said, updates will be carried out to optimize the game anyway
Medium graphics makes my frames feel sluggish just by being on an island or open ocean
They also need to tone down ship spawns or smth cuz if I engage a group of 3 blackbearders I find myself fighting 8
I have a 1050 TI and even just 1 on 1 frigates, it chugs with boarding. ship combat itself is usually okay, though
My npc crew needs to get the f outta my way tho they keep blocking me or trapping me getting me killed
I have an rtx 3060 the game lowers to 35fps when there are 2-3 frigates around me
damn
Yeah, I do have concerns about bigger ships paired with the performance struggles but so far it's cool
I would say they did well, for an early access that is
It was a whole other game at one point, yeah?
The funny thing is I play with my two friends and I am the only one using the frigate, they are using brigs which they spawned in for decoration and dock setup and other ships like ketches, the fps stays consistent only when frigates are around fps drops down
Honestly the name had me wondering if the band was involved at first lol
I noticed that, yeah. Might just be something goofy like too many polygons on the frigate model, or too many NPC sailors at once, who knows.
I am curious if they'll ever let us emphasize ramming. It's technically implemented in the game, just does nearly nothing. Like, that didn't stop being a thing until relatively recently, really
probably, so there will be a long way before they add a ship like a gallion
(Please devs let us have ship rams)
it would be awesome
have a ram that uses the same slot as the guns so you have to sacrifice firepower for it? or maybe just an alternate frame with different slots
Would be epic to use for naval boarding especially if you have a friend on your ship
deff
U ram and lock ur ships together and you jump o over
I adored finishing ships I didn't want to board by breaking them in half in Black Flag
CRUSH AND DESTROOOOOY
I can see that for the frigate and larger since they use two different gun slots
yeah exactly
I'd also enjoy having, like, a single huge mortar on deck
And give us naval forts to bombard with it
well, I say I would, but then it would hit the sails 90% of the time due to the high arc of fire and make me sad because sails apparently just eat 100% of damage
Bomb ships to windrose
Would be nice if there was a āde-mastingā mechanic to compensate
Knock down the main mast to immobilize the enemy ship
I wouldn't mind having some static buildable defenses either. some nice base locations get spoiled by always having like 4 patrols outside
if we could use those cannon decorations it would be awesome
Yes! the chain shot is the laziest possible way of implementing that and it's just not as fun
your friends could just agro the ships and u shoot them away
I also wish we could populate our bases more...
ALTHOUGH the 6 current mobile NPCs and 3 storefront NPCs isn't bad
That was the man use of chain shot on ships since sinking wooden ships is really hard in those days youād cripple/immobilize your enemy then close the distance to board
yeah, I'm familiar from playing Black Flag years ago, what I mean is that "chain shot applies a debuff when it hits sails" is lazier than dynamically destructible masts
god yeah
Yea thatās true
the 20 kill requirement for frigates is rough when your game turns into a slideshow
especially since even a maxed boarding gear doesn't do much to improve your crew, it seems
I mean, they'll always eventually lose if you're not getting at least half the kills yourself vs a treasure frigate
Maybe grapeshot can be used to lower the boarding requirement then
Since you killed a bunch of them
Trade off being itās horrible range/accuracy
yeah, chain shot already has an altered firing arc, that seems doable
So u can only use it at point blank
Also would be nice to have some boarding crew use guns too like musketeers or guys armed with flintlocks
I'm a little shocked I didn't even think of that
Yea the Blackbeard sergeants already (sometimes) use their pistols so why not our guys š¤·āāļø
We don't pay our crew enough, so they can't afford gunpowder.
"Wait. Your crew gets PAID?"
would like the crew to use axes pikes, brass knuckles chains and any other madmax gear to get the job done.
also would to be able to outfit them with gear like spiked shoulder pads
Crew and ship customization to help differentiate them a bit more would be welcome for a future update for sure. I want to issue uniforms at the very least and make my ship look distinctly different from the rest rather than just changing the paint and sail colors.
The Flying Dutchman is said to have been a real merchant ship
Though theres no verifiable accounts for that
We definitely need more ship customizations and the ability to build on them (let me make the ship my base)
I donāt think the Dutchman itself was real but was maybe based off of other stories or ships
The weather was so stormy, that the sailors said they saw the flying Dutchman. The common story is, that this Dutchman came to the Cape in distress of weather, and wanted to get into the harbour, but could not get a pilot to conduct her, and was lost; and that ever since, in very bad weather, her vision appears. The sailors fancy that if you would hail her, she would answer like another vessel.

first, would need proper wind angles, not this omnidirectional ship speed, we have now... ^^
Can you imagine how annoying sailing in this game would be tho if wind was realistic-ish
yes...and no...cuz i know how sailing works
having the tactical advandtage of cruising upind, would feel so nice...
but yea, hard to understand for some...
but when sailing ships steer like motor boats, something is not quite right ^^
There oughta be a balance
Like yea these ships are behaving unrealistically but also this isnāt supposed to be a hardcore simulator either
Also if wind was realistic than at times youād be sailing at the speed of smell due to lack of wind
Black flag had cool wind realism
Though windrose, the ships are way slower than in black flag lol
In black flag there was always wind, if you cruised in its direction, you'd be faster
Though it'd change alot
Yeah that I can get behind
But if it was realistic where if you were against the wind and thatād make you slow af then it wonāt be fun
Sailings fine until you end up in the middle of like 10 Blackbeard ships all chasing you lol
wind is realistic at some point...watch the smoke from fires and Chimneys...just sails seem to ignore wind... ^^
just saying...stil like this game a lot, and not asking for a sail sim, yet...sailing ships without wind?
better would be, the landlubbers learn sailing, rather then negating the wind for pure comfort ^^
Yeah I get that
Yeah weve all played atlas trying to cross 3+ grids with zero wind, that use to take literal hours and was one of the most boring parts of the game. One of the fun ship activities me and a friend done was hanging of the back of the ship at full speed via grapples swinging around like mad men and then 5 mins later asked one another if we both flying in the wind down herewhos sterring the ship realising the answer was nobody lol š
so what do the "I" and "N" represent for the guns on the ship?
referencing this
tried searching but not really seeing any notes or positions referencing guns starting with them
so far my best guess is the UI is missing something, because "I" will give us "Inventory"and "N" will give us "Next shanty" when the crew is singing.
Figured the lore peeps might know ship stuff I couldn't find online though?
N i would say is for nose and I is maybe first battery
Like a roman 1
But i dont remember what it shows on frigate
^^
im guessing thats a roman numeral for 1
while N is the nose of the ship
and im guessing later updates will give us ships with multiple batteries
frigate has 2 and indeed follows the roman numerals I for 1 II for 2
The ānoseā would usually be considered the bow
^
Typo?
So then it should be b and I
We could use some sternchasers too... Chain shot out the back to break pursuit.
Thank yo...
It would be really cool if the developers modeled the future Man O War flagships somewhat historically accurate to this ship.
That's a really late Ship-of-the-Line, like 2nd half, while anything piracy and Blackbeard is really early 18th. Granted, they have a really large Frigate for the time
Yeah I been saying that too stern cannons would be welcome and chain shot should actually do damage like de-masting instead ing of just a speed debut
Maybe add grapeshot to make boarding easier such as lowering the boarding requirement to win
Frigates of that style are definitely late 18th going on early 19th century. I'm still very much enjoying mine. Huge power spike.
Same, I prefer the later sailing ships from around 1800. I just hope it can remain relevant even with new ship tiers coming up
Napoleonic era = best era
That depends on whether they continue the "bigger is better" trend they have going so far or make a more balanced set of ship stats.
Connie, Trinco, some of my favourites
Endymion...
Lovely boats
Honestly, I hope the frigate remains a viable choice going forward in the game. I've always liked them better than big ships of the line.
Amen
Frigates are a nice middle ground for ships
Not small and vulnerable but not too big and slow
Yep. The can out sail anything that can kill them easily and aren't easily out sailed themselves, except by ships that can sail closer hauled.
Yeah and also back in ye olden days it was sort of custom that ships of the line wonāt fire upon the smaller frigates during large naval battles unless they fired first
So you sorta had a āhonorableā code of protection
that's if your flag isn't a pirate flag

as soon as they see the skull on ur black flag, they send you to the bottom of the sea
If youāre a pirate and you find yourself in a naval battle where two naval powers are duking it outā¦.you ducked up
Well they arrest you AND then they kill you
I imagine the pirates just staying behind watching and having a bet who would win
Having that said, my history teacher said back in the Age of Sail, people hate pirates a lot, I mean, ofc they are pirates but some family members joined the Navy bc their love ones got killed by pirates
Salazarās motivation in the 5th movie
Which explains why lots of people would just go "hang the madafakka" as soon as they capture one
Well hanging was also like the standard treatment for a lot of criminals in those days
Salazar was pretty much on the right side
But too bad he wasn't the main character lol
And even today in the us a pirate who is convicted is sent to life in prison
No parole I think
Remember tho itās pretty practical on the one hand since pirates disrupt maritime trade and secondly real pirates arenāt adventurers like jack sparrow but weāre stinking evil criminals who committed all sorts of horrible acts
Jack is indeed a rare breed
So rare I dont believe he does exist in the history lol, not even someone similar to him
Well he IS a fictional character lol
I mean, although he is a fictional character, probably there's a pirate in history that was like him, just want to go for an adventure
But nah that sounds pretty weird
Maaaaayyyybeee stede bonnet then
