Really the only pro for the Frigate for me is the 36lb cannons, but again, that's only if you select the Blackbeard Frig, which, you take a huge health hit to select.

The health is still a lot more than the brig though. Plus it would hit like a truck. Probably best when you have multiple people in a server and a few of you go together and delete enemy ships instead of trying to maneuver well enough to solo 4 enemy's by yourself

Hard to say what this game is trying to be at this stage. ‘Hard’ combat with relatively minimal consequences on death, convenient ship summoning that may or may not optimize the fun out of it, fast traveling that trivializes sea based travel, the sailing itself being simple but shallow, same thing with ship combat.

For those bored.. drop bonfires in differEnt places and build, or try out all the various different specs and find/create the best one for you as far as tank, DPS, Ranged, or 2h. Sail the whole map, I keep finding islands. Personally, I could sail and cannon fight with Blackbeard ships allll day..
I've level 15-ed this game three times and still having fun. There is lots to do. get creative.

Uhhh... the "Sailing" itself being " simple but shallow" is the most inaccurate. Water mechanics in games is STILL super challenging and extremely difficult to pull off well. Hells, just getting an ocean to look and move right is insanely tedious. They did an incredible job.

Hey there. What's you guys general opinion on the combat (land and sea) in the game?
I've just build my frigate and I can't say that I enjoyed my journey that much, tbh. The combat feels too punishing (designed for Souls Like 1 on 1 combat, but the game basically all the time throws at least 3 opponents at you) and also boring. All enemies feel mostly the same and it's not like you have a lot of different combat actions that you can perform.

I really hope they do a complete overhaul of land and sea-jousting battles at some point, although I am sceptical of that.. 🤔 .
Do you feel the same or are there actually ppl that are happy with that as is?

Personally I'm happy with combat as it is - both naval and land.

I don't feel it is exactly punishing, there's always room for error. Plus the penalties for death are quite non-existant, except the need to invest resources to repair a lost ship.

The enemies do feel the same, yet with the microterrain around (land battles) and the stupid randomness of the AI no two fights feel the same.

While i admit i WOULD like if there were more abilities in combat, like if there were more special moves or abilities that physically effect how combat works that you unlock based on your talent selection, I am happy with the combat as is so far.

I tend to be the type that spends more time gathering and building in this style of game, but the combat has been challenging enough to keep me engaged without becoming so hard that i give up, and the armor/weapon upgrades improve my results enough that it feels worthwhile.

i admit that learning the combat patterns and such does make a huge difference in how difficult the game is.

Something that helped me alot with the combat was remapping the dash button and parry button to my mouse buttons. The key to alot of the combat is just proper spacing and not being greedy with hits. Having a gun is also very useful to quickly dispatch of another target and let the passive reload happen in the background. I also understand if you dont come from a souls background you probably just try to merrily whack your way through everything but these enemies have hyper armor at a certain point of being struck.

I just use half-walls up and block path. Enemies won't attack sometimes and you'll be able to reach attack them.

The only type of combat id probably like seeing changed to some degree is the ship boarding combat. If I have to kill a certain amount with my crew to win the boarding id prefer the opposing ship to not have infinite spawns and have the exact amount of people so you dont have to train them around like zombies trying not to get grouped up on.

Revamped the equipment to actually feels like you are making a build

Weapon:
Short ranged but deadly carronade? Long range but slow to reload culverins?

Then armor and tactic combo:
A repair kit build? A self regen that sustain itself at low health? A build designed for killstreaks?
Kiting build?

It made you double check and finetune your build to be effective as well. Ship type matters more than ever

Cheap cannon stat got rebalanced and AI copy it 100% as in it was a player.

Might answer your need if you dislike the vanilla ship combat

In early game you basically die in 2-3 hits - get swarmed / stuck in a corner and you're basically dead.
The death penalty, as stated, is non existent.
Which makes it just annoying, tbh. The combat doesn't add anything fun to the game for me atm. Even wood chopping is more fun - usually I enjoy the combat more.

Later one the combat is trivial. Chugg some stamina and vita food and just BONK away.

The parry system is also kinda wonky, when there is more than one enemy. Usually you cannot capitalize on the stun, when you trigger it, ebcause there is mostly +1 or more enemies around..

It feels like a alpha placeholder - which it might very well be :D.

I can feel you. The game balance seems geared toward full gear upgrade for some reason... My recommendation for you is to lower enemy health to 0.5 (50%) and keep their health at 1 (100%)

For ships I'd leave it as is (my mod even designed for that)
If you feel it too hard you can drop it down to 0.5 dmg, but it will be not long before you can build something good

Ideally you wanna do quests that are within your level range, some quests recommend higher level, most importantly, upgrade your gear, especially your weapons, your canons, swords, hull, upgrade everything, and yes Galen will move wherever you move, you just build a bonfire, click on it, and in the bottom you will have the option to settle him in your new camp

Ascending gear just changes the rarity of it, I haven't ascended any of my gear I just upgrade the level, but ascending gear requires special kinda ingots that are found in the ruins, you need 10 of those ingots to ascend your gear and they're pretty hard to come by

There are 3 specific POIs dedicated to the rare materials. Silver, Gold and Tumbaga. Silver is in Jungle, gold is in foothills, and Tumbaga is in swamps. Hover over the POIs until you find the one that has it. Each one has caches that respawn every 6 hours, and can net you 1-4 silver, 1-3 gold and 1-2? Tumbaga per cache

There was one instance where a sloop defeated a frigate, and the man who made it happen was a Captain Cochrane

What I'm asking is what do I need to do to improve my clothes, weapons and ship stuff past lvl 10? I want to feel less like I'm underleveled and more like I can explore and take some hits before I die. Two people have said I'm fine and two are saying stuff is locked behind bosses.

Remember this once you roll back to 580, you will need to update your Steam as well to conform to the 580 driver.

Yep! and whichever cannon has lower poundage will fire first, so you might want to use the 12's that cause Raked (target takes extra damage) so the follow up shots become extra beefy

Ships are actually less afe than a house, since pirate ships currently won't shoot at your house, but if you touch the wheel of a ship, it becomes a target. Plus sometimes the pirate ships glitch out and shoot at your ship anyway, so... xD

You find a good spot. Place your chests. Then plant a bunch of shrubs around them. The plants will cover the chest, making them much harder to see.

Add some trees for appearances. Nothing that has useful loot, so no one comes looking.

All anyone would see is a big pile of random plants.

i personally prefer the floors slightly higher, 2.5-3 wall highs.

historically lots of the buildings are higher floors too, help with airflow and make it cooler

Hello all! To my understanding, all windrose worlds are randomly generated but they all have the same sets of islands and designs randomly placed through out? If so, I was just wondering if anybody has any recommendations for neat islands that they have found and what it would look like on the map? I’m looking to make a build with a big dock leading up to a nice house ideally near some cliffs that I could build up onto kinda thing?? I haven’t had much luck finding an island with cliffs close enough to the water with a big enough base of ground to build on at the foot of it, thanks!

I built most of my castle on the mountain edge overlooking the center island with a stairway to the water and a port. Still have to finish the castle but afterwards I plan to build a small village on the island that the castle overlooks with a port so your little dingy can go from the village to the castle port.

and yet I introduced one of my best friends to the game. They played for about 25 minutes and got pissed off because the combat was unbalanced and they couldn’t figure out the building material system.

you just have to get used to how the enemies move and after that its just a dance

i went with a precision build and talents that loaded up my stamina and precision bonuses. i dont even target enemies, i just point, attack, dash, turn, repeat

what I was referring to, was trying to board an enemy ship. I was just having a little bit of trouble.
