Also, if you want to make your ship tankier, you could disassemble it at the wharf for a full material refund and construct the Bretheren ketch. It's slower, but has a good bit more HP.

so if you set up a new world, just for resource gathering, then you can place 10 Bells there to hop between resource points easily, and in your "REAL" world you can keep your FT Bells for exclusively build locations

I run a BB with no other defensive stuff than Keelhold and I have not sunk that ship yet. Not even including Grog into this equation

IMO, survival games should have very very low material costs for structures. Because making a base is something you do to facilitate gameplay for many fans of the genre, and for people who prefer building, it also allows them to get what they want out of the game with less headache.

Also for builders... The more time they are out gathering materials the more they are exposed to environmental dangers and mobs that they don't necessarily want to take on.

So it's a win-win for both demographics.

I think Windrose is generally good about this early on... But some of the later construction pieces fall into the expense trap.

So progress for quests are tied to your character. That will not be affected. As for world discovery, you'd need to get their world save and just put it in the right folder on yours.

I killed Hands, did some stuff, and the first main quest objective in the swamps is "explore the priestess' chambers to look for the obol" and I'm like "...yeah that seems like the thing I'm trying to avoid until December or so." But I haven't been to that island at all.

I see what you mean. I don't think its layered though, I think there are other voices, they just sound similar. More voice variety maybe? but then that requires more money or AI (which would likely be met with backlash)

The general policy around here is "don't let anyone into your server you don't trust to not loot your stuff and destroy your base"; Windrose was really developed primarily around the idea of playing solo or optionally with friends. All the necessary security bits for public servers or letting randos in aren't there yet.

your problem is that you may not be out for doing bad stuff. But there are reports of people who have who ruined the trust of the whole. Long before this game too. Minecraft is a perfect example of this. Look at any server that is basically lawless.
