I died an unhealthy amount of times in the Demo by being too reckless. So when I teamed up with a friend that didn't play the demo and he got stomped by the same problems I had weeks prior, he got upset because I wasn't dying.

Also go the left side talen tree and stack either vitality and/or endurance when you first get started - both are good options for suvivability (remind softcap for vitality and endurance is a thing, you can help reach these with food buffs)

I think a key thing in this game is to take combat a bit more slowly. Get familiar with your opponent. And make sure you grab every advantage you can.

But even on easy this game is harder than some others, so IMO no shame in picking easy.

not a single enemy in the game can touch a player at full sprint - therefore death is your own choice

your weapon deals more damage based on a particular stat as opposed to adding strength points to do damage(unless your weapon is strength based anyway), you only really need points put into your weapon scaling stat and vitality, you gotta manage stamina and posture during combat... that's all souls

something not immediately obvious is that this game has a health gate system. this means that no matter what, you can never be taken from 100% to 0% in a single hit - period

meaning, if you play with no vit and instead lean into health gating and restoration effects, it can be surprisingly effective

you can test it too, take no food buff and go get hit by a plague crusher - you wont die if your hp is full when it hits you. even without any vitality or food buff

to this end, the plague pistol is kind of insane - it heals for 40% of the damage it deals so if your hp maximum is lower than 40% of its damage, you just full heal with every shot - 40 full heals for bullets/gunpowder

Are you doing a lot of sprinting away from enemies? You can do that, and you sometimes will need to, but you have to do it sparingly so you don't run outta stamina, especially during boss fights. if you MUST move, dodge, but you gotta be mindful of your timing.

I didn't do strength build, so I didn't pick any strength based talents, but I went with stuff that increased stamina, reduced stamina use, or increased damage/critical hit chance/critical hit damage mostly.

If you follow the path along the top section, to the far left, eventually you get one that heals you every time you kill an enemy

Shotgun does a LOT of damage eve nthough if you look at stats it doesn't seem like it. However, two shots is pretty insane. Idk what specific blunderbuss he has and upgrades but it seems wild to me. I used my shotgun and it was very useful, but not that effective as the video. I had 3 friends with me to defeat him. One person lured him around and everybody else took shots with blunderbuss

What're some viable early-ish weapons to use to beat Thomas?

I currently have a sword of which I keep forgetting the name, but it's medieval looking and basically a short version of the two long swords.

I think the reliable musket? The one you get with one of the early quests, and a halbert.

I also bought two pieces of the metal armor for the bonus and two pieces of flibustiers clothing for that bonus.

Currently I just eat two different foods, dodge his hits and occasionally deal damage whilst mostly running away and chugging health potions.

well if your damage with crits is always 737 and normal hit 460 as in that screenshot, that means your crit multiplier is 162.5% - but i'm 99% certain my multiplier is indeed 200% in my game

Longsword, any longsword. Power attack twice and parry. That's how I did it, the power attack has some nice range so you can react faster to his attacks

Longswords do slightly less than halberd, all being equal. But a halberd can not do a parry, or 'perfect block'. They can only do regular blocks, that take your poise/shields to do.
With a longsword, you can parry if you block at the right time, which causes the boss to lose poise/shield, and doesn't cost you any.

I would not put this publicly lol. People can/do mod and can bring in corrupted stuff and ruin the save, people can destroy/ruin anything you build on that server by just breaking it down in the future. (unless you change password at some point). There are no settings/filters to stop people from doing that stuff.
If you don't plan on building anything or doing anything crazy on this server, then it doesn't matter. But just a heads up.

I suggesr investing in the Jaguar and Sun ring.
The jaguar increases damage by 30% once maxed and ascended, amd the Sun ring reduces plague poisin by 45%

I would suggest investing in a great sword, preferebly the Soul Sword. Because in the 3rd biome, the mobs there dont bleed. So your effect becomes useless.
As for gun, once you get the plague pistol, you can yeet the drake out the window.
Invest in agility and presicion and get the reliable musket andreliable blunderbuss, and/or Dragon's Breath

My build is the Conquistador set,
Major Jaguar ring, +20 Agility Necklace one,
maxed and ascended: Soul Sword (ascended + maxed), Reliable Blunderbuss (same), Dragon's Breath (same), Reliable Musket (same), Plague Pistol (same) and those magic bullets.
Drink that 20+ agility soup and elixer of concentration and I can oneshot Thomas Richards, a lvl 15 Thrall, and took me 24 shots to kill the high priestess

See what you do is, in preparation for future pirate raids (which might be added), make your base/castle on a cliff, but high enough for cannons to not be able to fire at, then walls sorrounding it and 2 main entrances that can be destroyed.
If you are clise enough to the coast line, you can build a travel bell on the cliffside as long as you are closs to the shore. There is no height restrictions.
Then place a travel bell at the base of the cliff and you have a "elavator", and one way entrance to your base

I went for the tracker set and the stalwart greatsword and went full tanky talents because I was tired getting two shoted by the second boss before and after I changed my build it was very easy, very tanky with a ton of healing

pretty much yes, drake's pistol might be an exception and can be used with any melee as you don't need damage on it, just the weakness debuff

I just like to max talents where you regenerate health from temporary hp, I was thinking about merging this with conquistador set effect so i take damage but instantly heal with huge hallebarde cleaving

Yes and no, when i go full conquisitor is basically a fail safe for any failed blocks/parry's

Also when I was running Berserk talent found it underwhelming, I usually don't think its worth taking that much damage to get the buff, should be more buff from when you trigger it because you also can't trigger it too often or you dead haha

if bulwark ends yes you can be staggered, why you try not to waste them on multi combo's that you cant end by burning through bulwark
