Hearing that the game shifted its focus from PvP to PvE is quite disappointing. I personally think having everyone share a large-scale map would have added a lot to the experience. Since my group of friends consists of more than 4 people, I strongly believe that official online servers should be introduced in the later stages of development to support larger player counts.

Hosted servers and larger player counts are being planned still, and pvp was never actually a focus of the game, definitely a miscommunication there, the game used to be MMO lite in that people would share a hub world but the rest of the game has always been PVE focused

The MMO lite is the focus that shifted, allowing it to be offline playable and modded instead of live service

They look pretty much the same as normal minable white rocks, taller than a person. But if you try and whack them they say they require a better pickaxe. You can, however, drag your boat to some that are near the coast and bombard them with cannon fire to break them up and harvest all the yummy rock... and can't do anything with them. Because demo.

But iron pickaxe or better... Cannonballs count as better.

Some sulfur is in large veins growing around Large rock formations - we had some of that in Alpha, pretty sure it'll be in Early access as well - so couple ways to get it.

Satisfactory finally got to full release after like.... four or five years as well in EA hell.
But there have been a lot of games that pop up on Steam as EA and just... never update. And people get justly upset over it.

It was dumped into Steam as a pre-pre-pre alpha disaster, but they had the microtransactions and four tiers of collectors edition fully armed and operational for the release. And sales. All the editions were discounted on launch, even though that is "Turbo Illegal".
I think they had less than a thousand concurrent players before pulling the plug.

The problem with counting concept phases is that technically you could say they started at super weird arbitrary times, like they could have been developing GTAV but when scrapping something say "Lets move this to GTA6 instead" and from a production standpoint that's just part of a concept phase, Heck, you can even claim it was "In production" earlier than intended due to the engine between rdr2 and GTA6 being the same, we all know what those clouds are really for

I was late to the game and didn't play Alpha...but i noticed when looking into the warf it says "fleet" and the option to change your flag ship.....was there more then one type of ship in the alpha game or has anyone heard of there being multiple types of ships later?

The Ketch fits the cargo shipping type whereas the Frigate is better for straight up fighting

I doubt it. The Brigs handling is slower than the Ketch and the Frigate was a hefty beast in the Alpha so I imagine the Warship will be MUCH slower overall, requiring actual skill and positioning to use effectively

I'll be trying the brig and the frig for sure. Not so interested in the big ship of the line. I like speed an agility, but want more guns than the ketch. Depending on how it pans out between the brig and frig, I'll likely settle on one of those two.

Previously they were doing both in Crosswind, however doing both same time means much extended game development making those systems talk to each other. Focusing on 1 main system cuts development time.

Many other factors were involved but Getting the core game done first is the main step 🙂

I am excited for it but fully understand why they would delay EA until 100% confident. The gaming reviews can be unforgiving.

This is quite concerning to me. I grew up playing early access games which took decades to be finished and they are probably the best gaming experices I had in years of gaming. I guess the gaming community changed over the time but it’s crazy to me how it became the devs nightmare to be review bombed. Participating to an early access even if it’s buggy or incomplete, and being indirectly part of a game development and growth though feedbacks is an experience the game industry is loosing because of this market behavior. I hope the genuine awareness of a game development necessary steps will come back as it was 10 years ago so the devs wouldn’t be so cautious to share their work with the community, as the community would be actively welcoming to the content even if not “perfect”.

the major difference between Ealry access then vs. now is, that people now buy entry to EA and in earlier days it was an invitation.
More people see early access as early start because some companies used the wording early access as 3-day early start.

Reviews might be helpful, the problem here is the rating included in the review, and the aggregated rating which leads to stuff like "mostly negative" which - I guess - leads to a lot of people reading "mostly negative" oder maybe even "balanced" and acting like "naaah, won't look into it".

I don’t know about Steam policies for publishers but maybe split the reviews to an own medium for the EA stage may be helpful to keep things “between the fans” that would provide feedbacks to the devs without making it public, as happens in every focus groups or beta testing in other fields.

But take me as example. Iam really hyped and love the game so far. i already have plans to setup a server, send my family to a four week vacation and so on. I could write the best and still honest review i've ever wrote. Now someone is buying that game because of MY review. And those player dont like it and blame the game on steam. Btw even a mixed approach could be a thing. With the free demo (which was something I didn’t see in a while) the devs were smart and provided the public a free, limited, environment-controlled and stable version of the product, so the people don’t pay but still gets to try the basics. This could be the paired with an “unstable version” which wouldn’t replace the demo, but becoming the sandbox test field for fans (with a capital letters disclaimer like: buy this version if you really want to support the game but be aware this is a broken/unstable version) managed privately (feedbacks and so), so the public could choose, knowing both terms and conditions.

To better support the spirit of exploration, whenever you find a piece of armor or a weapon it will be randomized, so you never know which item you will get from a chest. The loot will also be different for different players on the server, so it will be more exciting to find new stuff with your friends. I have more of a problem with boars than I do sows. Even though sows typically are in groups of two or more, the boar always gets me. There is no stopping them. I have gotten better, but anymore than two boars and I am done for.

Either case, I think the game, in my opinion, has some good balance with the animals. Are they tough, sure, but anything is tough when you are in a loin cloth beating things with a rusty weapon. Upgrades, mining, and more upgrades really help.

Yeah..planting them rn is not possible sadly (not counting mods but even there trees despawn after world reload) best one can do is either deforest on a different world and bring that over or deforest an island you don't like

yup..and now imagine that in early access..we will get A LOT more islands and IF they keep the randomness there's so many different layouts you might not even see the same one twice. but it's all speculation for now. I'm def looking forward to exploring more islands and the different biomes too

definitely! i just hope it's not like valheim where biomes are kinda locked until you beat a certain boss. I wanna be able to sail around and maybe find the jungle or something like that. let these enemies be 20+ while I'm still on 4 but that's part of open world exploration! I love the little "hm..am i supposed to be here yet?" and then a level 20 pops up and i turn around in panic "OH NOPE"
