Swordplay only having the same 3 swings? Sword lunging over 3000 yards. Ships as well have extremely cartoonish designs that are wildly impractical in a real sense.
Not to mention reloading a black powder weapon with just the ball. No ram rod, no wadding, no gunpowder.

The naval combat is inspired from Black Flag so yeah itll be vastly different. I will agree that SoT's naval is very much focused for the individual player rather than from a command perspective. So aye sure theres a different type of skill needed for each naval type

Black Flag is widely considered the best Pirate game of all time. Its story is incredible and both hand to hand combat and naval combat are peak.

The ONLY downsides I have to BF is the endless tailing missions and the grind to level the Jackdaw. Also the graphics are fairly dated so can get ahrd to look at for a bit but you get used to it

There are different ways to approach ship combat too, you don’t even need cannons

Pirates of old aren’t too dissimilar to the modern ones of now

Small boats attacking vessels, some if not most being bigger and using intimidation to get their way

Depending on the background of a crew, they would prefer to use rifles as that would be what they would be more experienced with and would lead to carrying less weight

Small, fast and unassuming vessels were the go to

And if the target fought back, they’d just as quickly turn tail and sail away

I think it was Uncharted Horizons? On the SNES, which I only played on emulator, which was really great. Exploration, trading, very much an open world where you could do what you like or follow the main story. Black Flag was also excellent for its time.

That said, I think the team made right call to move away from live service model. It will all inevitably fail eventually... so few live service games last more than a few years.

The concern about this is how rare will the seeds be? If seeds are even a 1/10 drop, you'll still need to completely deforest chunks of the game. If trees that you plant have a 90% drop rate on seeds, it won't be that big of a deal. You won't deforest so much.

idk, it depends on how its done tho. if certain things aren't random, buried chests for example or boss rewards, and other things are random with loot tables for location; it could be good.

im optimistic, but would like a bit of clarification because everything being loot table rng would could be a downside imo.

i think at least ... imo could be more like enshrouded , the chest loot is randomized but the area the chest is in can only get Those items , so you either have to wait the 2h reset period and try your luck again but i dunno

honestly that is what im expecting, certain milestone loot is static, but other things have semirandom loot based on loot tables. (semi random loot tables because obviously you aren't getting end game items from the first chest you run across in the jungle)

as long as its not like destiny.... that system is god awful

i don't see any incentive for the game to do what destiny did as its not a live service hosted only by the service provider. so i'm not too worried

thousand cuts rapier is not 100% guaranteed 1st try on That chest but it's still only that chest.

they do per island not guaranteed 1st try on the island's loot chests , and if somehow you explore entire island boxes and don't get the sword then you wait the 2h period but either i think it's nice, it gives a bit of exploring and randomness. like minecraft kinda with the lootables yknow?
devs cooked with the demo i trust in them to know this is a good thing long run

yep! per island and/or per zone and container/drop type kinda thing. the fact that the servers are going to be self hosted (dedicated & not), not locked to proprietary rentals or official servers (that you have no control over) is a big indicator that things are going in the right direction.

I sealed my tank cap with epoxy, cause it was fjxed with screws cause tbere was no underdeck access there due to.bulkhead, sk for now jts carryinf 2L bottles. Ima move the cap, refresg the hoses and re-line the watertank tho

I think in order to make a significant difference to the hype an alternative game would have to release. I am unaware of any survival or pirate game that has engaged me or entertained me as much as the demo, ergo my hype is still very much there. Individual results may vary but I wouldn't think the majority of hype will fade outside of a new game -shrug-

So, shared quest progress means that whenever a quest check is completed on the coop world, it ticks that check for everyone. In my experience before moving onto different versions it was a lil buggy so Personally I would avoid doing any quest progress by yourself if youre aiming to play coop. Always make sure the people you regularly play with are on the server before doing any progress as desync will happen and its a bugger to try and fix

They do not actually come to your camp, they wander around till you repair and launch your ketch.

coop isnt the same as multiplayer

There are exactly as many resources as needed for co-op.
