So, my house is just forever underwater now. LOL!

I thought "Yknow? All the little pieces of hut that were covering my various workbenches at the start of the game are kind of out dated now. I'll build myself a proper beach house!" So here I go, doo dee doo dee doo, im placing the hut pieces together when i accidently blam a hole in the roof. No pieces replace it right, so i figure, "No problem, i'll start again!" So here i go again, la dee dee dum, when all of a sudden "Oh! there's a little patch of sand inexplicably glitching through one of the floor tiles. Let me just use the shovel and dig that out - There we go! It's gone!

I wander outside to place another hut piece and what do i see? The entire bottom of the house is flooded. "Whoops, haha! better use the shovel and fill that in!" Except i can't. the house is in the way. So i knock it down and start over. Now, i dunno about you, but it seems to me the shovel CANNOT fill in holes right. You tell it to raise and now there's a huge mound of dirt where the hole was, so you try to flatten it, right? - Believe me when I tell you, i spent i don't know how many minutes trying to structurally restore the hole. raising, flattening, digging - but it just refuses to normalize and now my house just cannot be built in the same spot it was. i have come to the conclusion that when you use the shovel, the ground is forever made unsound for building even if you fill it in. something you do alters it just that tiny bit much where the builder can't solidly place an object there anymore without it glitching through. the screenshot here is about the third time this has happened after trying to normalize the beach. I can no longer build solidly in this area.

Well they did have an undo button in building mode but it caused lots of issues and they removed it before dropping the demo. I can see it being an issue with terrain as well lol.

But naw, to get back to this: The thing with me is, if you're a fan of pirates in general you know that we've had very few high quality games that put you into a somewhat authentic pirate setting. Usually we get the pirates of the Caribbean-esque fantasy ride and thats fine, but its ALL we ever get. I understand thats whats marketable, but so much of piracy already IS fantastical! You could have a great game just by making an open world game where you're a young, disillusioned sailor who flees the navy and winds up in nassau doing errands forrest gump style for famous pirates, all while you play witness to the british slowly advancing upon you as you try to defend your idea of freedom. yes, there'd fiction there, but you also don't have to overdo it with magic and cliche' disney tropes...sadly, the closest we may EVER get is Ahoy, and Damn it if they just have a hate for piracy. They actually think a pirate game with realism wouldn't be fun. Why, I'll never know. You don't have to just depict them as suffering fugitives to be historically accurate.

Not that I have issues with your tastes or anything, but I think you are a bit too harsh with Ahoy. I mean, from what I can tell so far, the game doesn't feature pirates at all, so it doesn't really take a stand for or against XVIII century piracy (assuming you can be pro or against something that happend centuries ago).
As far as I am concerned Ahoy is not really on the same strings of Windrose, Black Flag, Skull and Bones and such.
It looks very much like a "age of sails simulator" so to speak.

I hope that they make it so that we can actually connect to other players completely without developers hosting any sort of servers of any kind... I'd like to see purely steam based system or purely IP based system...

Peopel are currently complaining a bit about connection issues etc. so at least during the DEMO they're still using their own server of some sort for enabling the connections between players...

I'll allow it for the demo, they need to be able to debug conenction issues etc. so having their own server mediate the connections is fine (as long as it works and doesn't drive away players obviously) but during EA, hopefully we get rid of it 🙂

but I hope they'll get rid of it at some point so that there's no need for mediation through them at all... this way no matter if they close their mediation server, we can still keep playing the game and this way there's less possible failure points when people want to play the game with each other.

We actually only mediate when you can't establish direct connection (i.e. firewall/NAT/VPN/etc etc prevents it)

If direct connection is possible - we prefer to not load our limited servers :)

So it's more of a helper, rather then obligatory service. But even then, sometimes even our server can't help and that's what we're trying to fix

I'm sure it's actually the other way round... the islands change position, and -very marginaly- the coastline, but the POIs are always at the same place.
My friend and I have tested 5 worlds in total, and the POIs were always at the exact same position.

The section marked with the "1" icons is actually open to you. Thats why those are white instead of red.

stands for "Act 1" im assuming.. with the others being for act 2 and act 3. There isnt much in that section other than level 4 ships though

Absolutely loved the demo... in a very brief bit of play you already showed you can beat a AAA title like skull and bones.

I personally wish you had to craft your ammo and such for the ships and man,

i'd do anything to see this turned into a full-on MMO... pirates and merchants and faction guilds. (yeah, I know... nobody but me likes MMO's anymore but man to TRULY live a pirates life... one can dream)

I'm sure "friendly fire" isn't something most people want but i think an added layer of required tactical cooperation would be amazing, as opposed to ships firing shots wild without fear of crossfire.

Admittedly I didn't try multiple players on one ship but it would be great if there were crewing options on one boat as opposed to simply multiple ships.

All in all... bravo, I look forward to seeing what comes of it.
