I appreciate the growing enthusiasm for the game, but as we’ve said many times before, before committing to anything we need to balance our vision with community feedback, stay realistic about our capabilities, and avoid making promises we can’t keep. We’ve always aimed to deliver as much as possible, at the highest quality we can, whether through the Alpha, the demo, or the upcoming Early Access.

As for the long-term development outlook, that will take time to form after the game enters Early Access. We already have ideas, including quality-of-life improvements and a new biome, but our top priority now is gathering real-world feedback. I see where you are coming from, but there are specific cases where Early Access can benefit truly indie developers who are working in good faith to make a project.

It is on the onus of us the consumer and also the publishing platform to make sure developers remain faithful to their pledge and do not take our good faith for granted.

In the case of Windrose, the devolopers have earned our trust with both their communication when transitioning away fron the live service Crosswinds. They have also given us a fantastic demo in which we can see the world they are trying to craft. ❤️

That's the rub. You can never be sure what humans are going to do and you can only have a best guess based on previous behavior. Just as we woukd like a firm timeline, we also want to make sure an unhealthy crunch environment is created due to insistance on timelines.

The best way to balance between those situations is continued communication and dev updates.

Code being the wild beast it is, something as simple as an angled wood piece added to a bulilding set can trigger an unforseen cascade failure with the physics engine that devs now have to fiure out wtf happened, why, and how to fix it, which in turn can quickly mess up a pre determined timeline.

As long as communication remains open and clear, I personally do not see reason for concern for this particular game. That being said, I can't say with certianty about any other small studio game going Early Access as I think it should be handled as a case by case issue.

I have a question, probably already asked and answered a bunch but for some reason can not find it.

I've noticed all videos of the demo appear to be on the exact same map.
But I saw a post on the steam page from about a year ago saying solo zones would be procedurally generated while shared zones would be pregen.

What is the truth? That was a long time ago so not even sure if what it said back then still makes sense.

My assumption is the demo is pregen but the actual game world will procedural. I'm also not sure if 'shared zone' will still exist since it sounds like the game has shifted away from a pvp mode.

One thing I really hope they do for long term is ship building , if feel like you should have dinghy range, like 4 small islands, then the rough seas prohibit your venturing until you gather up to build a brigand, then even more perilous seas limit you there and then you have to build a Galleon, and you can get squashed back to do dinghy phases and recruit NEW crew cuz your old ones died

don't stop moving. best is to hit em with the rapier and let em bleed a bit and then when they are about dead go hack em to bits, or you can hit em with the bleed again and just...wait

rebind dodge to a side mouse button if you can and just dodge backwards when they get close to you/start the attack animation - it makes all combat trivial

well once you download it it is on your pc. and you can launch it outside steam. so if you want to play solo on your own pc you can do so forever, unltess there is a killswitch in the demo
