same with a battlepass. I detest the idea of limited time items or cosmetics. Too many times Ive started playing a game, found a cosmetic or weapon I really like the look of and then am disappointed when I find out it was only available for a certain weekend 3 years ago and will never return

They can go for interactive cosmetics like cod and valorant weapon skins, reduce crafting timer by 50% or so and unique pets, none will have effect on gameplay but a very good monetization method.

@wanton juniper The Steam Alpha test apply was temporarily turned off after 1 week. They were looking for 8k and got 140k. So due to the overwhelming numbers it is off for now. At some point it will be turned back on later, and also may be other key giveaways. Just keep an eye out on the #│announcements and #│game-updates Announcements

So, a quick follow up to what was said about playtest keys earlier.

We have just been told that once the test actually begins, steam will randomly select people from the existing list and possibly more if signups open again. Steam will send you the invite via dm's and the Crosswind playtest will appear in your library. No key necessary.

Still no word on when the test is starting but it is very soon. I figured we'd give an update on how exactly the process will work for people since it has been asked a fair few times.

Afaik ship painting and customizability is something they want to have. I don't think it would be available for the test though. For flag painting, it's a bit of a difficult thing as it is something that would need active moderation which is not that easy for a small team.

I am really excited to see how this game progresses and how they implement PVP. I think it can be a good idea to cater towards some more of the casual gamers while also offering the chance for PVP on their terms. I am interested to see if you can only build on the main player island or if there will be contested areas that may offer rewards/incentives to base there in turn risking the possibility of being raided. (If that's even a thing).

When they opened the applications, they expected 8k and in a week had to temporarily shut it down with 140k applicants. when the Alpha Test Starts, Steam will randomly select from those applicants some to be able to access the Alpha.

Also at a Future time, the Applications will be reopened but will be replaced with a "Get Access"

Good day. I am a long time (10K hours) Atlas player that has had nothing but disappointment from the development staff. I still play, but obviously on an unofficial server since they shut down the official one. I saw the advertisement for this game last week and joined this Discord server. The game is very intriguing. I am watching the news and announcements and hope to get in on a future playtest. I am hopeful that this turns out as good as it looks. I think Atlas missed a huge opportunity. I wish this team the best of luck. Just saying “hi” and lurking daily 😉 .

Played a bunch of different systems over the past couple years. One of my friends is a really good DM, he even works for Pathfinder and does events for them. He likes to try different systems, basically using our group as guinea pigs, to see which ones are fun and how the mechanics work. We call it Tabletop Roulette and do a one off campaign over a few sessions then switch systems. Mothership, Pathfinder, Monster of the Week, Candela Obscura, When The Moon Hangs Low, Call of Cthulhu, to name some we've done. I'm a huge fan cause i like trying the different systems and lovvve creating and playing new characters

A week ago we were chatting about something that was not allowed in the channels. It was not about Crosswind and was therefore off-topic. Blackbeard confronts us about this. He is right about this. We went to the off-topic channel to continue the conversation.

A few days later he himself goes off-topic in the general chat and talks about Call of Duty. I tell him that he should go to off-topic for this as everyone should do. (he confronted us about this himself).

A few days later I see that my message about this has been deleted, and then you see this response from me out of nowhere.

ok yes you have a point and yeah even i just now asked to move it to off topic but I'm going to respond to it here as the response itself relates to all of crosswind and how moderation team is handling things.

When it comes to moderation there's two versions of it to keep in mind: There's the letter of the law and the spirit of it.
The letter of the law can and should apply to everyone you're correct. Moderators should be held to the same standard as everyone else
then there's the spirit of it.
If we were to hold everyone to the exact letter of the rules no one would be able to have freedom to properly express themselves. So sometimes we allow the rules to bend a little if it means no harm no fowl. In this past case what you're referring to is a whole conversation you and someone else were having about knowing each other irl. While in comparison the Black Ops message was a single message from Blackbeard about a joke topic someone started in relation to crosswind's release date and it didn't even go further than that either.

these are clearly two seprate conversations and I can see why one was asked to be moved while the other is just kinda there. If the black ops conversation was longer I could see why you'd be upset but it's a single message vs a whole conversation. While I can't give a solid ruling on where to draw the line I can only say to keep in mind the general mood and ongoing conversation of the channels.

I hope this makes sense and sorry if it's a messy message or misspelled but this is a thought I'd want to let everyone know about. we can't police every single little message that comes in and out and make sure it follows every and all rules, but we can make sure to do our best to make the chat feel like a safe and comfortable space for everyone that's in it.

So keep an eye on the https://discord.com/channels/1260209458924224542/1349723749858934834 and https://discord.com/channels/1260209458924224542/1349707400336248842 for updates. Those that applied before the Steam signup was temporarily closed will be in the random Steam selection for access when the playtest launches. There have also been keys won. Both those that won keys and the Random steam access players will get access at the same time, along with the granted content creators. At a later time the signup will be available again 🙂

So keep an eye on the https://discord.com/channels/1260209458924224542/1349723749858934834 and https://discord.com/channels/1260209458924224542/1349707400336248842 for updates. Those that applied before the Steam signup was temporarily closed will be in the random Steam selection for access when the playtest launches. There have also been keys won. Both those that won keys and the Random steam access players will get access at the same time, along with the granted content creators. At a later time the signup will be available again. They will announce the playtest all over the place when it launches so should be easy to catch before it starts.

In the end all age of sail games compete with one another to some degree. But not too crazy.

I'll take the high dry heat from where I used to live in the Mojave where 135 Fahrenheit was the norm during summer, over where I live now in the South with 100 plus degrees Fahrenheit with high humidity... I hate walking outside and cloths sticking to me within 3 seconds. At least sailors on the high seas had water to jump in and cool off.

Keep Pushing this Beautiful game out. I got rid of Sea of thieves and Skull and Bones just for this game. I just watched the New Shanties Video and OMG I almost cried because it felt like I was back in AC4: Black Flag. The atmosphere, the Islands, the animals, hell seeing Hands at the bottom of the Ancient temple looked so damn Good.
Crosswind Devs you guys are doing a Fantastic Job and I cant wait for this Game to come out I hope you all Are a great morning/ Great Evening where ever everyone is But Crosswind will be taking the Pirate Games by storm and blowing the other 2 out the water.

PVP isn't going to be in the playtest this go around, it will just be survival mechanics. Making sure the core aspects are all working well. Combat, Crafting, Building, Exploration, Sailing, etc. The pvp will come later. You have your own area of many islands you start in to build, explore, etc. Then you can go to the "HUB" - Tartuga, where you can meet up with other players. In that area there will be pve and pvp events that go on. The PVP part they will cover more on at a later time. But, your area is just for you - and its massive area, and a couple friends that you can invite if you chose to come join by giving them your islands code, but there is no PVP raiding of player bases - unless its in the open world beyond Tartuga.

You can shoot canons, and board the npc ships in the playtest - fight hand to hand combat.
