But I personally havn't really been a fan of the direction they slowly have gone over the seasons.

My ships came after the Indiaman, it was also an inspiration for my ships, I liked that the Indiaman followed the same artistic design as the vanilla ships, I wanted to follow this same artistic design so that everything would be compatible and not have a mod appearance.

The problem with studding sails is they were only ever used when wind was low. If used in higher wind speeds you risk snapping the extended yards off.

In terms of gameplay it would be cool to use them for travel speed or something.

My guess is each ship will have a gun limit per side plus bow/stern chasers. You would be able to carry less guns but more cargo to do merchant stuff, OR less cargo but more guns to do scallywag stuff. A bit like ye olde Sid Meiers Pirates

I’m actually kinda sad in that regard. My best friend, the one I used to grind sea of thieves with and was with me waiting for skull and bones. He’s so jaded by how both of those games turned out that when I talked about crosswind he just didn’t care and isn’t interested in trying it despite all the amazing shots and videos we have so far. There's a lot that leads to this being a heavy topic sometimes, personally my biggest gripe is the community management, people have gotten banned and shut down just for being upset that some bully won't let them make progress in the open seas

It boils down to the lack of real content being added for late/endgame. it’s always just reskinned old content being added there just really nothing new after Pirate legend other than just endless grind for reskinned cosmetics.

Only people that entered the competition that randomly selected participants have been notified via steam (you can see the list of winners/names on the steam page).

People that selected the generate playtest button (not the competition) have not been selected yet.

The test was originally going to be in April but with the increase in testers they said it’s going to be pushed back to May, so they have more polish for it.

Crosswind said they will hold future competitions for other chances to get into playtests.

No problem! There was a previous test in November and since the game is only in Alpha there will be more opportunities down the line. The good thing about the upcoming playtest is that there is no NDA, so we will be able to see how the game runs/works even if we don’t get in.

Signups have re-opened and people are freely able to register their interest via the game's store page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3041230/Crosswind/

Selection of players will be down to a 'lottery' that Steam runs which will randomly select players to participate from the pool of signups so hit the 'Request Access' button for a chance to be selected.

Mid April-May. We have no info on exactly what time or date it will take place, only a rough estimate given by devs

For instance, I have a key for NDA Applies (doesn't look anywhere near as cool as Crosswind, js) and when they have their tests, it's a set date and time. (Playtest will be from 5pm-8pm on the 23rd, 24th and 25th.) Are the playtests here like that or is it something like (From April 20th-May 20th) And the server will just be open the whole time?

At the moment we the community do not yet know. My assumption from previous playtests Ive been in, it will likely be the same as you say, from [Set date and time] to [set date and time] and the game will be available to those with keys during that period so you wouldnt have to miss out on playtime if your timezone differed.

Take this with a grain of salt as at the moment we simply do not know. The most we can see is from the public alpha post on steam saying "We’ll be back soon with more details on the testing schedule and what kind of content you can expect in the Alpha."

The issue is... this game is free to play..... which means the edge Lords who just want to be toxic over comms will have free roam... I've been in alphas for a few free to play games and it's always a huge issue... the 'paywall' is always a huge deterrent.
... its whether they want to invest heavily in a voice comms reporting system...

Or making it easy and abundantly clear how to disable comms etc in the moment

For me.... voice comms are hugely important between players for any kind of open world experiance. It keeps the world engaging and random 😅🤣... its always the stories that start "remember when we met that player that did/said...." that stick the most in these games

I dont think we know yet. Ive been keeping up with everything news from the devs and havnt seen anything related to capturing ports aside from this image from steam
