Well, to get a key is sort of like waiting for supplies after a major hurricane. You get in line. The line is extremely long. Then after about 4 - 8 hours of waiting, a hurricane relief worker comes out and says, "Sorry for the long wait, but unfortunately we are out of supplies for today. We will be back again tomorrow at some unknown point in time with some unknown number of supplies. Stay tuned." Then you come back every day for the next three months as they sort out the damage while getting people back in their homes and back to their lives, only for you to look back 4 years from the future and think how it was a rough time, but you finally got supplies. In this case, you will get the "supplies" during something called a "release date". Hope that explains the process.

What I find strange is that people are genuinely interested in the game and sign up for the Steam alpha very early on. Unfortunately, nothing happens, and the keys are simply given to someone at random. Whether they're seriously interested or not. I find it sad, but I have to accept it.

Found a pic of very similar model of what he has
He used to work as a boat builder all his life and he made a hybrid version of a motorboat version of a Marina 85? And the sailboat that you can see here

Not super off topic, but I hope ye all had a lot of fun in the Alpha. I know I did. It has a fair amount of issues, bugs, things to fix, things to add. I don’t know about y’all, but the modern day/science fiction stuff in assassin’s creed games is one of the biggest reasons why i never really gave the franchise a chance. It just completely ruins my immersion in the historical settings(and frankly i don’t care about the science fiction story angle to begin with). I guess perhaps assassin’s creed fans themselves have a right to want it to stay since it’s kind of a consistent part of the games, but personally i’d be glad if they completely removed it…

tbh I was gunna try and argue but yeah I agree that MOST of the ac modern setting are immersion breaking, especially the newer games, but black flag played it differently which I liked. there was more lore to the modern setting and it was worth exploring most of the time. the modern day story of it was kind of stupid though i wont deny that.

Idk i only indirectly experienced assassin’s creed when my brother played the first game for a while until it suddenly bricked our ps3. Dealing with the insurance to get a refurbished ps3 was such a hassle that we never gave assassin’s creed another chance. In our brief experience with the franchise, i just remembered being kinda annoyed at the science fiction simulation stuff when we just wanted to play a cool parkour game in a templar setting.

The AC games i was somewhat interested in were the first one, the second one and black flag
Tbh though, my interest in black flag was solely cause of the pirate aspect. I’m not even interested in the assassin or parkour stuff for that game. The problem is just that (good)pirate themed games are so few and far between(on consoles anyway), so you just kinda have to accept such things if you want to play any pirate game at all, whether you like it or not

The only ones i know are the Disney Treasure Planet games on ps1 and ps2, Pirates: The Legend Of Black Kat, Rayman 2, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, Captain Blood, Sea Of Thieves and Skull And Bones.

-The Disney Treasure Planet games weren’t very fun imo and the art direction is also very science fiction, so it depends how much you can stomach that.
-Pirates: The Legend Of Black Kat was decent, but the gameplay gets repetitive and the islands were unfortunately pretty barren.
-Rayman 2 isn’t technically a pirate game, but the setting and enemies are very pirate inspired. The art direction is also very cartoony with fantasy and science fiction elements though.
-Assassin’s Creed Black Flag seems to be the best pirate game so far, but like i said, i don’t really want to play as an assassin or have any science fiction elements in a pirate game.
-Captain Blood finally just came out and i haven’t played it yet, so i can’t really say much about it. It looks fun though.
-Sea Of Thieves looks fun, but is just way too cartoony looking for what i want from a pirate game.
-Skull And bones just looks boring and lame and you can’t even do anything on land lol.

There’s also Yakuza Like A Pirate i guess, but i just see it as another Yakuza game with some goofy pirate aesthetic attached to it, so i don’t really want to count it as a pirate game. Everything else is just boring top down strategy games with a pirate theme, which i have zero interest in.

Also i forgot about Monkey Island and Sid Meier’s Pirates, but again the gameplay of those games are just not for me. I just want to have sea/land combat and island exploration, with a mostly realistic art style and strictly pirate themed aesthetics.

Skull and Bones had the world and lore, the looks, and ship system to be a great game. Butttt it just couldnt, and I say this as someone who has hours in.

Setting- Using the area of Africa and indian ocean vs classic Caribbean was cool new setting. The story of getting your ship and becoming not just a pirate but a KINGPIN who has hidden labs for opium and distilleries for rum while plundering European mega companies is awesome motivation.

Ships themselves- Looks amazing, customizing hull, sails, crew, etc was fun. You had a good mix of types of ships and even chinese ones. Choosing different weapons besides cannons like ballista's or flamethrower and seeing it on your ship.

Combat- It was an upgraded version of Black Flags as it felt smoother, you had ammo, you had special crew actions, and enemy ships had weak points. You would also fight settlements and forts.

Captain- customizing captains was good with variety of clothes from Euro, Asian, Tribal, etc.

Bad stuff- Because of the multiplayer focus enemies were bullet sponges at times and combat got stale fast and impossible alone.

Microtransactions, nuff said.

There was end game stuff of taking over points on the map to generate rare currency for good gear but it would reset after some time erasing all your progress.

There was nothing really to do as side content. No land stuff, you couldnt be like a trader really, you fight the same forts and crap over and over

After doing the main story which was more about helping NPCs who were WAY more interesting its like eh im bored

You dont actually own any of the havens you hang out in.

Your crew might as well not be there as they are just....there...they are basically lifeless

Only if you want to be like one of those modern Somali type pirates with modern ships and weapons. I’m more so referring to a golden age pirate(specifically those who were active in the Caribbean). You can’t really do that anymore for a myriad of reasons. It’s either being a modern pirate or larp as a golden age pirate but having to fund that lifestyle through some other means without engaging in actual piracy
(Disclaimer: i’m not actually interested in robbing people tbh. I just kinda want to vibe like a golden age pirate without needing to be wealthy enough to sustain that lifestyle)

one of my first pvevp games - so much risk and chance involved - im like 17 lvls in and an absolute loot goblin. No major goals just have fun and collect n craft more. Found my first 4 blueprints in a few matches last night, v fun. Dropping in w no loadout is exceptionally lit and requires tactical maneuvering.

a dude called me a crap priest for missing my dispell on him because he was out of range. dude went on a while so i chose to miss the next one on purpose to cause a wipe so he knows what happens if it really fails. a few insults later i left the dungeon and went on other runs for a few hours only to discover they didnt find another healer so they came back with a formal apology and all lmao
had to rip at least 1 a new one every 2nd day in tera because they didnt know anything about other roles than dps.
for the few priests there have been you better not p!ss off the ones that are left.

Windrose was actually pretty well balanced in that regard too, I remember during the alpha me and someone else realize we had swapped which bosses we had a hard time completing on the hardest difficulty as our builds were so different we had un-intentionally made a boss way harder than we thought. The one that was easy for me was a real pita for them and vice versa, was actually kinda fun

I just started playing Voyagers of Nera with the Founders Pack. The art style gives off Sea of Thieves vibes, but it leans more polished and cinematic, especially with the third-person perspective.

It’s basically an ocean survival/co-op game. You explore a big sea with islands, fight sea monsters, gather resources, and build up island bases.

If you’ve played Sea of Thieves, it has a similar vibe with sailing around, island hopping, and playing with friends but instead of pirate PvP it leans more into survival, crafting, and base building, plus some fantasy magic stuff with spirits.

I’ve had my eye on it too, it looks chill if you like exploration and co-op, especially with friends, but it’s more PvE and progression-focused than SoT.

Riftbreaker has its own inhouse game engine so u dont gotta worry about unity etc

and the devs behind the engine are modders at heart so they kinda skilled to say the least

especially since I'm one of their original testers and helped em alot years ago. One of favorite base building/crafting/exploration games

it's a tower defense game as well and by that i mean lot of towers.... lot of traps, lot of weapons for the mech (you control a giant mech well idk if "giant' right term for that

Dragon Quest Builders 2 to an extent but these games have no "pirate" like stuff so gotta look for that pirate vibe elsewhere

I forgot to mention a modded Starbound is one of my favorites for base building that has lot of exploration. The mod in question is Frakin Universe or close to that spelling. Absolute legendary mod and since devs abandoned the game, mods won't break

it has about 20+ different biomes of different worlds, omega sized tech tree, probably 1000+ different weapons and armor cause why not, mod is a super mod

Ngl, Windrose makes me want to put sailing in the dark fantasy game I plan to make, but that's probably not happening for like ten to twelve years. The basic jist of it is you play as what is essentially a cosmic janitor, going out and cleaning the remains of the old gods so they don't come back.

Oh... this game, if it sticks how it's going, will be perfect for me and my youngest.
Sea of Thieves is... okay.
But it's lacking what this game has.

He loves this time period, especially the naval side. So I really can't stress enough that a PVE solo/coop game set in it - which doesn't suck - is something he will adore.

I know it sounds dumb, and just... bleh.
But his life is hard. It sucks. He can't do things his sister can, he can't keep up with his friends even though they are wonderful to him.
And, frankly, he'll die early because of this accursed freaking condition.

It's a choose your own adventure, text based story basically where your choices determine events. I love it.
You are an officer in an alternate Royal Navy in an alternate timeline. Britain is Albion, France is Gaul. But it's essentially the Napoleonic Wars.

You can be a woman, and if you are it changes it so only women serve in the military as men "lack the constitution for childbirth, so how could they endure war".

You also, when not raising hell for the Gaulish navy, engage in some period romance. But you can be gay/lesbian if you want (the scandal 😱🤣)... even hooking up with a Gaulish Captain during peacetime if you so choose (even more the scandal! 😱🤣)

If you are female, the men take on the societal position of debutantes looking for a suitor... a complete paradigm shift from our own history. But it is written well, and doesn't feel in anyway unnatural or... jarring.

It is REALLY good. But it does require you to read and pay attention.
Also, your decisions can end badly for you. So... be careful in how you interpret your orders (bit of friendly advice to avoid a rather nasty fate there)

I played it like a decade ago, and I still download the app on every new phone, and still think about it and replay it often. Constantly reliving the heroic career of my lesbian captain and her gaulish (definitely-not-wife) counterpart.

It's a fair few hours of good story. Even more if you replay it making different decisions.
I know it's on Android. Not sure about Apple, but most likely is.

Agreed. Considering they teased having mounts, or we’ll just a horse, I imagine it will be all open world now. Rather than teleport to new regions, like the older games, which gives me hope for exploration and side quests to get distracted with.

My only gripe, and this is just because I played all of them but the first game will always have my heart due to its charm - is the removal of the morality system affecting your appearance.

The zombie genre is definitely overdone but I liked the premise of the systems in State of Decay 2 so I look forward to seeing how indepth that gets for State of Decay 3.

I'm actually okay with the missing of the affecting your appearance part! I remember everyone really loved it but i feel like it was just for the player because they'll still have everyone's reactions over why your appearance WOULD have looked that way based on how they know you and such. Personally, i don’t think the development team seem to have as much crude humour which fundamentally made the fable games so iconic, so if it just ends up being a generically flat wasteland of ‘everyone is nice and considerate’ land, then I really don’t think it’ll be all that much iconic.

Don’t get me wrong, played through Fable 3 recently and am really excited to see all of those mechanics brought back, the last one was basically HEAVILY inspired by the sims with its interaction system so it did need a bit of a modern twist

It’s funny because the interactions you have with NPCs in fable 3 are actually nearly 1:1 with the Sims 2

I.e tickle animation, farting in peoples faces animations etc

but it’s that crudeness which I think made it so … idek hahahaha

those are the ones that stand out the most

then recently there was Throne & Liberty which has great world building but

doesn’t really do well for dungeons or more difficult content because of how unbalanced the community is with class distribution

And for many, videogame has become an "investment" instead of just a video game. I disagree with that notion, but people spend thousands of hours into a game and then they very rarely feel like going elsewhere because of sunken cost fallacy...

Yeah, it’s a shame really. I think the issue is where you have to play the game mostly alone, you get pushed into DPS / Sustainability classes, so I think the most important thing is having a progression route crafted uniquely for each class

otherwise you can get stuck playing a low DPS support or Buffer, doing all the content alone until it comes to dungeon content

another thing you can do

is have that dungeon stuff be what allows you to progress alone through the story as any class

then you sort of have a way to make it sustainable no matter what you choose

ohno- we had 3ish tanks. a main (lancer), a soft (the one with the fist weapons i forgot the name of) and an off-tank (fighter. dps with a branch into tank.) i can recall that.
2 supports being all heal, cleanse and buffers and debuffers on top being the priest and mystic.
the rest was all DPS. no off-branches. straight up dps.

a certain off-branch was always PvP and duels ofc and tehre was a PvP dedicated dps as well that barely got used but no. in the end it wanted you to build a dps or suffer on your support beating up a trashmob for 20minutes for certain upgrade-mats

or farm the easiest trash with a mate feeling like absolute scum in the process lmao

I played it casually, so in my case I went in and carried in dungeons with the mage class; I loved seeing all of the raids aswell, never once communicated on a Mic; we just got through it with basic competence of the endgame.

I remember the PvP aswell, it was like this odd thing where you’d play as a raccoon

(do not misunderstand. the range was a huge circle and the valkyrie, a melee unit, still managed to end up BEHIND the ranged mates somehow or even behind me and complain about it. the heal lockon was pretty much a LoS check as well soo...)

if these ppl would be even half as good dodging enemy attacks as they did my dispells we wouldnt have been in this mess to begin with lmao

I think I played as a Lancer now that I recall! so you could completely nullify all types of damage, deal decent damage aswell, it was nowhere near the mage classes but it was based around punishing, blocking and reactions

there were moments where you’d sort of get stuck, like you’d feel the enemies hit harder

in my case, it’s something I always seemed to overcome and think “when does it get difficult?” Then get hit by a wall again, overcome it and think the same thing haha

wasn’t that bad of a game because everything was choreographed

but yeah it’s definitely in there as one of my most memorable and enjoyable MMOs because it had such an intricate world to get into

what i loved about tera was the route you can go about with your characters.
i did have a tendency to facetank certain things even as a priest so i built her accordingly.
ended up facetanking a shieldbash in antaros abyss that usually takes that class out cold in 1hit. i took it cofusing the hell out of my tank. lmao

It’s weird for me because I kinda remember lots of different things from an abundance of MMO’s, with Neverwinter I loved the crafting (blacksmithing & gear system), with Tera I loved the endgame and dungeons, Elder Scrolls online has a really nice atmosphere and is absolutely massive where you can have these huge battles in cyrodil with other players in PvP, FFOnline has a decent story to go through aswell- but dropped out cause it was too lengthy, could go on and on but it’s kinda made me not really have any specific type of in-depth memory of each one, there are just specific little things I recall individually

"FFonline" is final fantasy i assume? never got into that but thats final fantasy overall. wasnt that paywalled like WoW?

i have both nvidia and and AMD gpu here and both seem to have certain issues. nvidia (i currently use) seems to have the wrong ideas about how ppl use their stuff and patches in the wrong direction. as for AMD, it doesnt want to be patched the common way for some reason and wants to redownload the whole thing every time from the official webside instead. xD

Yes... AMD has some issues especially with UE 5.6 games at the moment... constant crashes and even complete reboots of the PC when the GPU kernel driver goes panicing...

it's partly Windows 11 to blame. I've windows 10 still (Love the EU!) and I'm staying until they rip it out of my dead hands... microsoft finally got it stable like 4-5 years ago and now I shoudl start using their newest experimental mess of a thing... no! 😄

I always recommend Studio drivers for the nvidia and for AMD they ahve "PRO edition"... same idea, the most stable and least buggy driver version, but not the newest possible.

linux is far from a fix for now. more and more gets properly supported but it will take a little longer for the rest to catch up (steam deck doing some heavy lifting on that front i imagine since that runs on linux if im not mistaken)

Very few require tinkering. Most just run with proton experimental or GE-Proton. I default to GE-Proton on steam. 99% of games just run, including Windrose. Star Citizen is the only perpetually tinkering one I have because they keep changing things and can't implement Vulkan by the book.
