Well my biggest DPS jumps once I hit 15500 were some ridiculously lucky traits and some good weapons.
Now you just have to get the right pieces and keep checking every time you get an upgrade.

I don't usually worry about it too much, I just look at the numbers. The initial hit on CT does around 3k each, one envenom does average 18k. How many targets do I need to make CT > Env? 🤔 thats what I do.
