Explanation of why stealth benefits aren't as important as you might think:

  • For starters, "Chain pulls" are NOT when the tank pulls a new pack with 1% hp remaining on the previous mobs. That is called "Bad Tanking", and it sucks for everyone in your party.
  • Correct Chain pulls usually happen while the previous pack is still alive and not dangerous. This increases uptime on more targets, which is the biggest increase in DPS for the entire party. This is also the biggest reason why you see high key level players doing so much damage.
  • Garrote is roughly 7-9% of people's damage in a key, most of which is already empowered/cleaved
  • Most energy spreading will come from Rupture to maintain scent of blood, not garrote
  • Without a Trace (+1 vanish charge) only grants roughly 2 additional casts across a whole dungeon, but does allow for holding vanish for large chain pulls which improves the quality of each vanish
  • You can argue that it "feels bad", but numerically there is very little ground to stand on, the dps simply isn't there.

but generally speaking I find that whenever I ask people what the issue is with assa, I get very different, distinct answers, and no one can really agree on anything except reworking hero talents

like you have the "fix bug because MUH DAMAG" people, you have the "assa too slow no energy me mad me want press button" people, you have the "caustic sucks" people, you have the "caustic should be more" people, you have the "I want bleeds to matter more" people, you have the "I want bleeds perma auto-applied to every mob" people, you have the people who want more kingsbane, less kingsbane, more crimson tempest, less crimson tempest, fix restealths but give me master assassin, I hate how much of my damage is in execute cause I look so bad during prog, oh my god our execute is so strong I love it

I think blizzard doesn't even know what to do with this if I'm gonna be honest. The dragonflight talent trees were a big step into being able to make little adjustments and stuff and take certain talents on certain fights or take more single target for X or Y dungeon

but then all the "meta" gamers sit there and go "if you have to swap more than 3 talents between full ST and dungeon talents, your spec sucks cause it can't do everything all the time perfectly"
