the problem with dashing is sure you can do an attack out of a dash but dashing on the spot is super obvious especially if its back and forward, if you start a forward dash and your opponent starts attacking towards you, you're gonna get hit because you're in the dash. I think what you should do is think about why you're actually making these moves, think about what it accomplishes, you'll probably find you've got some bad habits which you do just because you're used to it. dashing in neutral to stay fast and make your attacks connect is good, but repeating something which doesn't actually gain anything or maybe even hurts you is smth you should focus on fixing

Dash cancelling far more efficient on greatsword. To force a dash hold down and press the dodge button.
With greatsword some light attacks don’t hit after a dash cancel so it’s easier to cycle between neutral and side light with a dash after the 2, then restart the cycle.
If it’s too uncomfortable to play then I would switch mains but it’s entirely up to you, it just takes practice
