the reason we say all weapons are viable is because its not dependant on how good the weapon is, its how the weapon works for you. i prefer lance over orb, and if i had to main someone with those weapons i'd main lance, its just a weapon i like more and works for me more. all the weapons ARE viable and you can get rank 1 with any of them, so pick what works for you, not whats 'best' - balance patches make any long term commitment because of how good a weapon is pointless anyway.

pro level orb is favoured since it does everything good, and its fast.
silver-gold level lance is favoured since they dont know how to deal with it, thats why lance legends have the highest winrate
