it's a big topic, but important pointers:

1. fastfalling! you can break out of most strings or reposition by fastfalling.
2. watch out for wall gps
3. weapon throw up can cover you
4. the moment you can, get onstage!
5. don't panic jump! weapons like lance and scythe live from these.
6. don't mash jump. see 5.
7. if they're gping in a way that'll get you hit if you touch the wall, dodge up to delay your touch and make them miss.

here's exactly how wall slip works:
the game has a counter for how many times you did an air jump, a recovery, or a wall jump
this counter resets when you touch the ground, hit someone, or get hit

once the counter reaches 5, a ! appears
once the counter reaches 7, !! appears
once the counter reaches 9, !!! appears, and wall slip is activated
once wall slip is activated, it won't deactivate until you touch the ground
while wall slip is active, you can only wall jump (no air jumps or recovery)

it should be noted that this mechanic used to be different and WAY more complex (so complex it was never fully documented anywhere) then a couple years ago they changed it to the current and much better system (wall slip activates faster and works in a much less confusing way)

in more detail:

every individual item you hold stores the total damage you took while holding it

when you are hit by an attack, the game takes that damage counter, divides it by the "damage threshold" (item dependent number. it's the same for all weapons) and caps that at 2

the game then takes the amount of force dealt by this attack, divides it by the "force threshold" (similar number to above), and caps at 2

then it multiplies those two numbers together
if the result is greater than 1, you get disarmed

the lesson here is: the more you hold onto one specific item (and the more damage you gain on it), the more likely you are to be disarmed

can someone explain to me when a combo is escapable? Cuz I can do the same combo 3 times in a game and one time they dodge out and the other they can't. Is there factor that determines that? Maybe because the opponent used a dodge right before the combo started? Or maybe because I interrupted op's move hence why he can't dodge out

Yes, so it depends on the number of frames of the combos (essentially, the correct timing on your inputs for true combos). The only ways I know you can see this are in the settings for replays and in training mode.

2 frames is unjumpable
0 frames (or nothing will appear because it's true at "0" frames) cannot be dodged or jumped. Anything above 2 frames will make any combo that could've been true jumpable or dodgable for your opponent. Hope that makes sense! 🙂

I have a very beefy computer and for the life of me I can't figure out why my game goes from 240 fps to 40-80 randomly, rendering the game unplayable once it does due to input delay and other things. I haved custom launch options set " -framefix -setfps 240 -high ", I have my power settings set to ultra performace, I've got my nvidia settings set up, I've got the app on High in task manager, I've got windows game mode enabled, and I've got barely any apps open. When I start a match, everything works fine for about 10 seconds. Then I suddenly get yellow connection bars (they’re usually green), and shortly after that I get disconnected with a message about a connection problem.

• Checked my internet (it works perfectly)
• Reinstalled the game
• Tried different Wi-Fi networks
• Switched between different regions/servers

put you and your teammate on team 1 and get a dummy player on team 2
if either of you has a second controller, keyboard, mobile account, or willing friend, you can connect that and use it as your dummy. move it into position manually then start your combo
if you dont means to get an extra player add a bot and set their difficulty to pushover; a bit more annoying to deal with but its an option. if you do this you could also turn on handicaps and set the bot's damage done to 50% so its slightly less annoying

i barely ever use training mode personally. I'd suggest trying to figure out what causes you to get hit the most or lose most games and work on that first, then when you feel more adept at that move onto the next thing. Imo you wont get anywhere chasing everything and landing short of everything because you're biting off more than you can chew at once
