Talking about different names, it's common for ancient people to have two names in a sense, one is their original given name (名), while another is their courtesy name (字). Courtesy names are usually given when a person hit adulthood (by their family elders), as manners & seniority is highly valued in the past, so only elders/seniors or very close friends can call one's original name, while courtesy names are often used by peers/juniors to pay respect. If juniors/those younger than you call your original name in the past, it's seen as an extremely disrecpectful behaviour, which is why courtesy names are very important to avoid offending someone. Note that courtesy names are different from nicknames, as courtesy names are formally given, and would usually be tightly related to their original names.

The scent is actually the scent of burning "buddha flowers", which is one of the "ingredients" needed to create dream puppets (if you recall the dungeon YiDao brought us into, where we encounter quite a few aureate pavilion memebers trying to create dream puppets). Lan Ao was infected by one of the dream puppet poison's varation (from the notes you picked up).

At first I thought the same but I remembered we explored the well by oursleves, so I went to search up for the part of the dungeon where we explored it with YiDao and it makes more sense😆

for the photo task, just click on "Go" button and teleport to the boundary stone, then take picture, you will have an option to summit it (the button with paintbrush icon on the right).
for the 2 "to be unlocked" task, I think it's a bug that everyone can't unlock it despite completed the entire map.

hexi is divided into 3 subregions, of which the first is a desert. rather than a continuation of the main storyline, think of it as a prequel to the game (we are going into a dream of the past). you will be playing through the lens of people in the past, and by the end you will find out more about yourself

the real continuation to main plot would be the imperial palace update coming soon

The ones that claimed it is boring is uncultured. Everything that happened there is linked to the overall story. If you dont want to read and understand it. Might as well quit the game. This game isn't just fight mobs and bosses. It is a story. Spoiler alert hexi is later talked about in the game. Reference that is.

I just googled it. Are there seriously SEVEN scroll painting stories?? Do I have to do them to get to end-game? I'm not trying to knock anyone who enjoys them, but this is not the same game. There was a major switcharoo in what this game was. If I wanted to see heartfelt stories or whatever this ish is, I would watch TV or anime. I play video games to have fun with combat with my character. I'm so close to uninstalling, but I really loved the first two zones. Can I skip this crap and just grind to 95?

They are both side stories. Hexi takes place over 3 maps, where head cannon, you shouldn’t be able to get back/outside of Hexi until you get to the end of the Qinchuan story. It’s good for personal character growth and building up, with an emphasis on your personal power. Not technically needed for gameplay. Probably might be more important to the story later?

Imperial Palace is like a mini detective story/palace shenanigans. Also, a little version of being stuck in the walls for a little bit while you are finishing the main story, but not too long, and easy to go in and out into Kaifeng especially. Good for political knowledge for your character. I think a part in at the end of the story makes more sense after being in Hexi. But gameplay it shouldn’t matter either way.

Still in Hexi and the stories may seem long and well, like you're trapped walking in an old man's body...literally..very slow haha...but the stories feel so deep and I'm not going to lie some of the smaller interactions even got to me. It is all so cinematic too. My fave region by far ❤️
