Thank you Chinese history guy
(Chainsaw man reference hehe)
👍
take care
is there a reason a lot of the guanyin statues in game are basically just the tsz shan monastery guanyin instead of historical statues or is it just an artistic choice?
How monk react when tian ying manipulate other ppl to following him and destroying bronze statue?
I think some of the composers they found were also known for making music for genshin impact as well, so you may pick up some similarities
guanyin statues irl mostly look like similar to this too, it's kinda standardized
yaa but I mean like historical early song/late tang and prior etc r pretty different from this style (less clothes more skin/jewelry) and I can’t find any where shes holding both pearl and vase like that one from around the in-game time period so I was curious 😖
there are also other guanyin statues like the large gold one in kaifeng imperial temple that feel more in style for the time period that makes me ??
pic for ref of the kaifeng temple guanyin
im writing an essay related to wwm for my buddhist art class n its making me so curious lol
I'm not sure but there's a huge reclining one in the game.. 🙂
I'm leaning towards an artistic choice by the devs since it's more commonly seen during modern times and definitely looked better, the first pic is what I could find for Tang dynasty (during tang dynasty, healthily plump is the beauty trend, and it reflects on their statues as well), the second is from 5D10K, where they mainly uses copper to build the guanyin statues
yess thats what I was thinking too since I feel like tang and prior was def more gender ambiguous and showed more skin compared to the ones ingame
I almost thought it might be due to censoring for whatever reason b4 remembering we have multiple shirtless outfits 😆
not female shirtless outfits though..
Guanyin is known to have 33 forms, so the statues may look different depending on the guanyin forms they chose to build, like the one in kaifeng is depicting 千手观音 (thousand hand buddha), and is considered as a higher class compared to the 33 forms
this is based on the real one right?
reclining buddha is diff from parinirvana buddha I think, the one in game is reclining so hes just relaxin but the one on top is dying? from what ive learnt
Since it's quite a senstive topic considering it involves deities & religions (and it's very complicated, not everyone is involved in fields like this), so the standardization is there to ensure that we don't unintentionally make any offenses
I guess that's also why the outfits aren't anywhere near the real ones..
so there's a higher class and Buddha can die.. TIL 🙂
he only died physically but entered nirvana 😖
I think they certainly took reference, the first is from thailand's sleeping buddha temple, the second from malaysia
Found the hill they used for the Ruby escape also lol 🙂
shoowww omg
ruby my baby 😭
this is it.. if you zoom in you can see the road.. 🙂
from what I understand, parinirvana refers to the state of the end of physical existence before achieving enlightenment (entering nirvana), while reclining buddha/sleeping buddha (卧佛) refers to the name of the statue depicting the Buddha who entered parinirvana
wait let me get you a better pic.. this is from google, it's so blur..
someone shld start a wwm pilgrimage lmaoo visit all the story related sites irl
If you're on mobile you can zoom into the hill behind the building, the design of the road is there 🙂
The laying position is also called as 吉祥卧 (honestly, I don't really know what this is called in english, I use auspicious lying), in buddsim this position is said to be able to accumulate merits & also good for our health
oooh I think I got it mixed up in class then 😖 my prof talked about the reclining buddha and then refered to one half lying down after saying not to confuse it with parinirvana so I mixed them up oopsie
That's totally fine😆 good luck in your essay for your class tho
hello guys may i know when they going to release the 3rd hexi map on global?
Wrong place to ask 😅 maybe try #🌱beginner-questions
guys whoeever is free
Next week
Hlww guys
Bantu misi prison break pliss
Hey guys, has anyone been region locked in wwm before? If so how did u fix it? Thank you
not that i know of....
won't #🌱beginner-questions be more appropriate for it? this is lore chat
awsome
The game is already big in terms of file weight, so some decisions must be made😭 same goes for the God of Killing statue, it can be spotted in a few places it was thrown for ambience, but doesn't really belong when you try think. Developers are trying to be realistic with environments, but they do need to make some cuts to avoid bloating the game
OMG DID YOU GUYS SEE THE TRAILER
Yes, it's very beautiful.
It includes aunt Han and uncle Jiang, was the girl dancing the one in the gleaming abyss? Was the female character mc or aunt Han idk I think it looks like aunt han
And how uncle Jiang also says the moon reminds him of home, is he referring to Chang a too? But that doesn’t make sense cause as far as I know he isn’t from southern tang
I’m just rambling but also super excited
Uncle Jiang is jiangshi
What is jiangshi
zombie
the dancing girl is the one who bring us to Hexi. iirc, she is a child adopt by emperor Ai, not his lover.
she is also the b!tch in celestial echo animation who gives us all the useless fireworks and junk food.
Lorelorelore
personally I wish they made the lore the same as the CN one.. a lot of stuff gets cut and not translated 😛
Stuff got cut ?
I believe so.. that's why the story seems so disjointed sometimes. I didn't realize that either but I'm reading a description of the CN game on baidu now, and there's some stuff they left out (wasn't translated probably)
Except bad translations I’m pretty sure everything is here
read the link I sent.. that's how much info was in the CN game 🙂
this damned region cant end sooner. I wanna go back to pursuing my lost uncle and my hot aunt!!!
Whats with aunt han and qianye i read the archive letters @.@
i swear, the lore of this game is all over the place. Reddit is my go-to place to understand the lore.
They have history is all I can think of lol
At first i thought qianye is her then i read the lament saying qianye came and stayed in blissful retreat for aunt han???? Why is aunt han so hot shes linked with so many people even that tian doctor @.@
I've said it before and I'll sya it again..the CN game seems to make sense.. but the English game seems to have some lore missing, maybe because they thought we wouldn't be interested, or couldn't be tranlated in time or whatever. I really wish they could both be the same and then we wouldn't have had to guess a lot of things 🙂
I'm excited!
Hello any chance someone can help me? Basically I can’t bind discord and where winds meet and b4 you say google it…I have, I’ve watched countless videos and still the discord code option no longer appears in my game (PS5) I joined the official discord site but that didn’t work, link them I mean…went into discord settings what’s linked and what’s not and yeah it’s frustrating.
They have character backgrounds 🙂
we have those too tho?
oh no, don't tell me I didn't discover it until now.. where is it lol
haha I have no idea somewhere in journal or compendium ? this ui simulator is very confusing loool
but yeah we’ve had it since the start im p sure I recently read the moon maiden was it was interesting
its very confusing with the poor localization it makes me sad that such a story rich game is lost in translation :(
||Is wen wuhen gay. With this suspicious statement||
raika darling thats a threat not a flirt

all the drop down with title, that's where the backstory is
I found it but it has totally nothing to do with the story in the game lol
Questionable statement in the jianghu
It's an adotioanal canon information about the character, sometimes "missed scene"-style, sometimes to expand on their relationship with other people and such
Any other YouTube channels I should watch besides wwmgirl for lore?
what's the lore behind the moongazing maiden boss if anyone knows
Williamsweeb and fwalicia

She was a princess sent to Liangzhou for political marriage. She tried to make best of it, helping local people in their sorrows, her attendants tried to support her, but eventually the grief and longing for home brought her demise.
Give me a second to get more detailed explanations, people discussed it properly earlier
By Catman, more irl-inspo context: #📖lore-chat message
By Eternal, more of in-game context: #📖lore-chat message
Wait I don’t get it who is emperor Ai.
Wait what!?
THIS IS SO REAL
This guy, if I'm not mistaken
But Liangzhou was everything I ever wanted, lesbians, political intrigue and an insight into how the mc truly feels
It’s so odd I never see him on game but he is aureate pavilion guy?
YM is still too small of a fish to run in circles where he'd meet this guy, but we see mentions of him in Gleaming abyss (Li Zuo is his personal name)
Wow, everything i hate and more. At this point, they should rush the region and be done with the side stories. I wanna go back to the main story.
The translation just sucks..
Also whoever said that the translation sucks is 100% correct. The letter that Qianye wrote about aunt Han, the depth of it I could only find a better translation or Reddit
Bro what 😭 I hope you get what you want in Qinchuan then
they should just hire a fan to do the translation than to skirt around beauracracy because i seriously lost the plot after Kaifeng.
Liangzhou and Kaifeng are the best parts of where winds meet
There are many videos on YouTube that do an in depth
The only thing i want in Qinchuan is the (Hopefully) end of the Hexi region story.
the only story i liked in Hexi was burlap sack's one. Others are just irritating.
I loved the immortal girl and Lian Daozi
It's last part iirc, a few month break (judging by Kaifeng-Hexi break), and off we go to Unseen Mountain
Best story after the lesbian one, missing a home you’ve never been to is something I deeply felt
The girl was such a cinnamon roll. If i was in the guy's shoes, I'd have married her in an instant. Who doesnt want a silly, goofy wife? Speaking from experience. (Married for 8 months btw)
She wasn’t real
He imagined the whole thing
I think that’s what I understood
The best part of Liangzhou was that cut scene where the kid gave us the sword oh my days I was losing it
A home we've never been to........You know this is a common theme in literature? I'm doing Masters on it after my honors. I came across this concept so many times.
I’m sure it is, writing down our feelings when being so far away from home is so human
My mom would write poems after war broke in her home country
I loved the song the game made
I lost it during Burlap sack's storyline when he made an epic last stand but still died. When he tried to keep his secrecy intact just because he didnt want his comrades to die in vain and as a last stand, he made sure the cotton seeds spread via the vultures as far as it can. He didn't live to see history, but he became the reason China made a groundbreaking discovery of warm cotton wool. Nobody remembers the nobody from nowhere, yet he singlehandedly revolutionized China all because he wanted to.
I hugged my wife while watching the cutscene because if i didnt, i was sure i was going to cry and a tear still fell from my eye.
The visitors were real people who stopped at the inn at some points, according to the ledger, but them crossing path seems to be a product(or artistic depiction) of Lian Daozi processing the many anxieties of travel
Yeah, the liangzhou one had a beautiful song. Better than the lesbian one.
Oh that made me tear up, I was so annoyed at first since his journey was so long, I didn’t understand what was even happening.
No one did. Its only as the story progresses do we see the extent of his contribution and then FEEL his suffering for real.
Then again, i hated how everyone was treating him. He was honest to a fault, the poor man.
The gay one is my all time cause one I love sapphic stories and two I’m also in a culture where arranged marriage is a thing. The part where the girl ended up going to the moon made me bawl my eyes out
I didnt understand the ending. Did she die?
But how? Didnt she reach for the moon?
It was symbolising
So she and the grandma both died from falling off the cliff?
And how did the girl become blind?
There is a 10 minute video on it where half of it also explains the immortal girl and Lian Daozi
Her family wanted her to get married at all cost, they didn’t care if she was blind. As long as she was married to Lord her livelihood and happiness did not matter
So when they noticed how she planned to run away to Chang An with the other girl, they got someone to blind her so she couldn’t run
Then locked her up
ah! so thats what happened. Yet she was stranded. Not even sure if she was alright.
As how forced marriage has been on women for centuries, nobody cares if the woman is okay. As long as she ends up with her husbands family. She doesn’t matter
The cold could've claimed her and we wouldn't know.
I'll reiterate that that is not in everyone's case. Times are changing now the consent and willingness of both the boy and girl are seen pivotal. I know because thats what my dad and my father in law did for both me and my wife. Unless we consented equally, nothing moved forward. The pressure of marriage was there, but not at the cost of anyone.
Ofcourse times are changing but so many cultures are still behind.
equally confusing. Like did the past and present collide? Did the parellel timeline collide? Nothing made sense except the ending where the general "killed" his inner evil.
That part confused me as well but I eventually got the gist of it
Nothing to do about it. Changes take time. Forcing it is a b move. Quoting Chinua Achibe from Things fall apart, "What is right in one place, is not right in another place."
And the French and Brits did a fine job showing us what happens when you force and rush a change.
Think you can enlighten me?
My response isn’t appropriate for lore chat but forcing is how today your wife can choose to marry you or divorce you. Force is how women will get liberation
I’m so awful at explaining, is it okay if I send a video instead
I sent the link on DMs
Well thats a pessimistic view if i do say so myself.. Why force a marriage or a divorce when you can cultivate change little by little? Its more beneficial in the long run.
hu
That's a thousand years old u know. BTW there's still arranged marriage in some countries today
I'm not saying it's good. I'm just saying that things change, times change, thinking change
U can't use the perspective of today to judge the past history
Like western used to enslave black people
Same thing. It used to be the norm. But is not today
I know. Even my country follows arranged marriage. Surprisingly enough, or rather unsurprisingly, arranged marriage has significantly lower divorce rates. So, that's a silver lining.
Most girls refuse to understand and accept that. They deny history, unaware that history is what shaped the world of today.
Oh...
U can argue lower divorce rate is because of lack of choice for women. They don't have the right to choose to divorce or it's culturally unacceptable. Not because the women want to stay married
Things aren't black n white eh
Well it's better than court drama, no?
I know, sounds terrible. But hey, not everything is black n white.
There's no better or worse. We're just observers.
Good things have bad things. Bad things have seemingly good things.
THERE WE GO! Articulated my thoughts properly.
Also, we should properly stop before the mods tickle our balls.
Hello everyone question did everyone’s discord invite code stop working? I can’t get a code to bind my accounts…
if only burlap sack could see us now.... 👀
A lot of clothes have cotton
Polyester...

So question what does hexi expansion have to do with our characters well story? And finding aunt Han?
Or is it just a major detour? (Only finished first zone)
One of the main themes of Hexi is homesickness or longing for true home. MC has that homesickness since he has no home anymore and he is now a wanderer.
it has pretty much similarities to or trying to portray how like him, the people in the Tang back then Long for their "Chang'an"
tho, It's a bit of confusing so any expert of chinese symbolism and history should explain a bit more clearer
Whoz painting in qinchuan treiler?
the next sect seems coming soon, does that mean fist weapon is coming?

the painter
Yeah sadly, language limitation is one thing (cultural difference, trends too), but a lot of times they just chose to cut things off when it became too long, which I kinda see the point that it's because it will make the content extremely lengthy, still it's key information of the game and even though not everyone will read them they should make it fair😭
.
What monks react when tian ying manipulate other follower to destroy bronze statue?
We entered there since YM was promised with info about qianye for the veiled lady's own goal (she wanted to know about her past). For some reason she wasn't able to do it herself, she decided to take a gamble by using YM. It may look like a detour, but ym was able to enter hexi exactly because ym had recently lost their home (mirroring how chang'an, not only the place itself, but also symbolizing everyone's hometown, was burnt & destroyed). Tang was quite the inclusive dynasty, so everyone from anywhere are welcomed to stay make themselves home, so entering the dream, in a way, is actually an opportunity for YM to develop mentally rather than physically (which we already have a fair share). The name chang an 长安, came from 长治久安, which means lasing peace and political stability, something everyone is also looking for in times of chaos and wars.
Not yet
Treat it as a chapter about how our MC went through the grief of losing family and home if we were to make it brief
I want burlap sack baaaack
I love lore
devs said no
🥲
with the dark surge giving some insight of our identity
In the concert video there's someone that looks like a grown-up Ruby with a sword.. but that was only on for a second
Dang
Was the girl in the beginning part of liangzhou mainstory and everyone else just his imagination?
we will see after qingchuan is released I guess.
just here to kill off all false expectation 😹
no aunt han ||but at least we got info about qianye||😆
the people in the tavern (the dancer, the siblings etc) do exist in the past if you read the ledger, while the girl is his imagination/the pipa itself
She alive, trust.

There is a new quest in the battlecrest scope after hexi unlocked
I never thought raging tides was connected to battlecrest
Lisbenis lore!!
Zhang Jinqing a well of heaven disciples and Hui Jingyi a Buddhist nun
read the ledger read first two paragraphs and gave up hahahaha
Where can I find it
the ledger will be in your bag so you can read it anytime, also you would get to know about liandaozi's great grandfather, he also stayed at the inn before
is he the one who was on the roof and played the pipa at the end?
At temple near leaning buddha
It's piayao battle board
There piayao battle board on map
Also first place you in when play paper moon main quest second liangzhou main quest
I don’t get it, it was part of the main quest
I’ll go explore the temple
No just at same place

Is anyone from China here?
Can i max Hexi oddities right now ?
anyone know a lore video or something like this? Sometimes I am kind of lost what is actually happening
search wwm girl at youtube for any lore explanation xd
Thank you kindly!
+1 good channel
Hey any one know how to copy diagram from friend guild base
Hey, our guild Loremasta is going to hold a Lore Talk this Sunday that will talk about the historical background of the time period (Wudia Shiguo) and the events leading up to chapter 1. You (and anyone who’d like to get a firmer grasp of the story) should attend! He’s a Chinese history professor so he does this for a living!
+1 too
wwm girl?
Yes, very good at explaining historical context to a lot of the quests
I love her. She's helped me understand some things that got a little lost in the translation
Oh! I do have a question. I am really sorry if this is silly, but when looking at name of NPCs is it Surname then First Name? Because I think that is what is throwing me off
She’s great!
From what I’ve learned from our Loremasta Chinese names are more… like… vibes
He would be able to give a better explanation if you asked if our discord
I don’t speak Chinese but he does
I will have to do that. I know naming conventions change from culture to culture and sometimes it can make things a bit hard to follow if you're not keen on them
hi
Family name goes first, then given name
is anyone confused about that first liangzhou quest or is it js me?
Thank you! I figured, but wasn't sure and because I'm not overly familiar with Chinese names I kept thinking one or two dudes were just built different 😭
Yay
Discord live
Can't we just have video post on YouTube
We’ll record and post it. But these lore talks are for people who actually want more than just to watch a youtube video
You don’t get opportunities to directly engage with and ask questions about to game with a Chinese historian
Nice
is hexi js kaifeng or qinghe js hundreds of years before?
i mean is hexi just like a past memory of kaifeng or qinghe in the lore
because the song dynasty came to after the collapse of the tang dynasty so if tang dynasty is a thing in hexi isnt it the same place js like a century prior
the reason for my analysis is over here we got the map where it says khitan close to the tang eempire and we know that khitans were the people who raided kaifeng and they share a border with the current song dynasty which they ffight for dominance so im assuming the song dynasty is the former tang dynasty
Hexi is from before the previous chapters ‘current times’ but it is not the same territory as Kaifeng. Kaifeng is a city that exists today as well, Chang’an (capital of Tang from Hexi time) is modern (irl) time Xi’An for example if you want to picture where they are relatively to each other
but are they not about the same place according to the khitans and mongols in proximity to the tang empire?
im not saying their the exact same but im saying like their pretty close by its just that the "hexi" we are seeing in game is a century before it became the song dynasty time
they are not the same place
Tang enemies back then iirc are the tubo's or the tibet empire
hexi is based on the hexi corridor, iirc, it's a place where the merchants go in and out. it is a very important road iirc.
it's a gateway towards the middle east i think
the tang you are probably talking about is the remnants of the Tang empire, the southern tang
Damnn
Song is after Tang. The game's story timeline is between Tang and Song. When Song would eventually win and replace Tang. @manic pivot
@fringe elm Sorry to bother friend could we possibly get a channel for Guild vs Guild scrims (to set them up) or Prison Break so we can make our fun in this game -- a big spot to sset up scrims would help a ton
I miss Yi Dao...
I miss ruby…
In the in-game "present" time, Song has already replaced Tang, the other Tang we are encountering is just a fake using "Tang" name as a form of legitimacy
yep, that's him (lian er lang) with liandaozi
So far there are 3 "tangs", first the real/original Li Tang at Tang dynasty (represented by last emperor aka LiZuo in game). Secondly, Late Tang from the 5 Dynasties, found by Li Ke Yong who was a Tang general. Li Ke Yong was of shatuo descent, originally surnamed Zhuye and was granted the imperial surname Li. LiKeYong was rivals with Emperor Zhu Wen (who assassinated LiZuo's father, TangZhaoZong, and made LiZuo the puppet ruler, 3 yrs after ZhuWen forced LiZuo to give the position of the emperor to him, marking the end of Tang Dynasty & the start of Late Liang), LiKeYong had been fighting ZhuWen under the name of restoring Tang, which his son Li CunXu established Late Tang after his father died (923-936). Lastly, Southern Tang from the 10 Kingdoms (represented by LiYu in game), Li was indeed their founding emperor's LiBian's original surname, who changed their surname to Xu after his adoptive father. This branch does not have any relation with the Li Tang, LiBian was the Prince of Qi in Southern Wu before reverting his surname to Li and declaring himself as the emperor. LiYu is LiBian's grandson, the third emperor of Southern Tang, who dropped the Tang dynastic title and renamed himself as the Ruler of JiangNan in 971, then in 975, LiYu surrendered to Song, marking the end of Southern Tang. Note that in game may have differences with the above mentioned, as this is based on irl history, I might make mistakes too T-T
#📖lore-chat message you can also refer these messages, about hexi in both geographical & administrative concept, as well as the difference between hexi region/corridor & anxi protectorate which is a crucial aspect to understand hexi in general too, also recommending Laufie's videos as she made explanations regarding the background historical context for both jade gade pass & liangzhou
I am confused at liangzhou’s timeline. Is the liandaozi main quest set during fallen liangzhou?
So the real liangzhou is the fallen liangzhou?
Pog 🦆
in simple words, death of the governor, liandaozi & guanyin's quests happened at the same time
guanyin
Im getting sadder now
Thank u
It's daggers after daggers amidst chaos

super confused by these names lol even tho im chinese.
when i was play He xi, I was like wtf how many Zhang do we have here. 😂
bilibili explaination videos helped me ngl
hello guys
I can relate too since Li, Zhang, Chen etc are very very common surnames, and the fact that cn would prefer to use the direct pinyin to translate
it would be better with pics I suppose
good thing for the key characters they all have their own potraits and stuff😆
Is there a resource where I can read the lore in detail? I absolutely have no idea what's going anymore after the kaifeng main quest. I've finished hexi and the other quest in the snow area
Im still searching for a good relationship chart between characters and factions in game
But all i found are memes
yeah, portraits definitely will help
Like the game has so many interesting characters and intertwined relationships but the game only did the basic for qinghe first chapter
Why?
In game would be compendium & anecdotes, for channels you could visit WWM Girl & Laufie (and another own recommendation 软软喵大人, her videos are in chinese, but she do have english subtitles, she focuses on in depth analysis so her videos would be quite lengthy)
appreciate it!
sadly the function is exploited for memes & pics🫠 players do have the freedom to create their own research but bc of the limited characters having their own profile, sometimes the relationship chart created can be lacking and confusing since it involves a lot more characters, not only those having their profiles
Any tips for me guys I returned after few months now the game is looking like it have to much content xd.
i was in your situation. just be patient and play little by little for the start. and then gradually you will naturally re-gain the familarity and play more. That's when things speed up and you'll clear all the stuff pretty quickly.
okay man
Fun fact : if they wanted Aynur to be really beautiful by Uyghur standards at the time they'd have given her a unibrow.
Is the assassin from murder of the general the brother of the wine girl from some other quest
yes
hi
wait shes from inkbound sect, it feels like her outfit is different from the usual sect outfit
Because it is
I miss ruby
so do I, some rumor say she will be back
do u think we will have this weapon in the future (guan yu weapon)
guandao.. I've seen an NPC use it, but not any player.
In the concert video there's a split second picture of what looks like an adult Ruby..
which one?
it was in a cutscene somewhere I forgot which one it was
is it boss?
One of the wandering tales I think
Anyone knows good weapon i could take for good eZ fight, rn i have umbrella and healing fannn

If business is bad. Probably.
You can buy her outfit
If i not mistaken there is description say she the lowest rank of inkbound order master
Yeah
I didn't check those descriptions lol
Guys the game doesn't want to log in there is a problem with my game
You can use #game-support or ask in #🌱beginner-questions but this is a lore discussion channel specifically
Why does Zhang Yichao say history will record that he didn't die in the palace when he died in Chang'an?
Maybe it's kind of a metaphor to say he stayed close to the people and Liangzhou was still his home even if he physically was in Chang'an ? I don't know, the whole Liangzhou quests seem pretty metaphorical
is there a way to stop repeating this quest? i just got all the anedotes for it
or do i keep having to go through it to get it away from my bar
yea i bought her outfit when it was discounted
You can cancel it yes, you don't have to finish it
but shes still tedhnically an elder or a top disciple
That what i say
only her sect has this info iirc
other sects dont have this

How many times does liangzhou get sacked? It seems to be sacked during Burlup sack, then again when Lian daozi arrives, and then a third time during death of the governor?

Holy crap now that you mention it. It kinda weird to not have that weapon in this game
Oh nvm
It was a really chaotic time in China's history 🙂 the Tang dynasty was collapsing and everyone was fighting to take over. This was called the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms Period.
Still it's quite impressive as the competition is quite aggressive (called 十相, they are 10 elite disciples, ranking doesn't matter much as they all excel in different aspects, much like Mohist with their 3 elites), plus during the baima post incident, inkbounds almost got wiped out (all 10 elites at that time got killed), the "Ten Manisfestations" (important martial manuals belonging to inkbounds) were also lost, where the survivors of the inkbounds each brought a portion and escaped, it was tian ying who recollected them which was why he was acknowledged by Feng Dao and got invited into the text. (In qinchuan, we'll meet an Inkbound senior and get some context about it)
What they meant was that liangzhou is lost (ie. "cooked" in internet terms 🙂 )
The painting is what he's referring to, it was made by the folks as an acknowledgement to his achievements and deeds, it was then he realised what he wanted wasn't a name on the history records, but rather the folks remembering in and telling his story to the newer generations
@sharp lily ah

Bc he let himself become political prisoner in changan
Liangzhou was destroyed after the death of Zhang Huaishen
Much lore!
What to say
Kinda ironic since before I enter the fortress, I was like, "why does everyone talks about tang dinasty? Hasn't it already fallen short after li zhuo was exiled?"
In my knowledge, the current tang got divided into 5 kingdoms (please correct me if I'm wrong)
Jiangnan on the south and song on the central plains (?) are 2 of them
#📖lore-chat message Hexi took place way before qinghe & kaifeng, the timeline estimation is as this msg
So all this happened in the past? Ever since we enter hexi?

I'm a bit confused on the timeline since some quests seems like happen on a different timeline
In burlap sack's story, he met with a village that gain access to water after decades of effort. We met with a boy that said, "my great grandpa, my grandpa and my parents built this well, even though they never be able to taste it"
But in one of jianghu legacy story, we met with a direct descendant of the well-digger that died, giving the impression that it happened before the hexi mq
So instead of seeing the past, we see the future in the past (before guo xin died but after the time we got yeeted to hexi)
One of the encounters seems like happened after guo xin died but before tang fell (guo xin had a debt and the npc on the encounters talked about the survivors or the descendant of the soldiers to give compensation so I assume this is after jade gate pass fall)
Because hexi in the past region
Dream of the past
Yes don't you realize you get in dream when you meet the girl who ask you to finish painting. And in lore you never wake up yet
Fall of tang dynasty lore.
Remind me of book order of fall of roman empire
Anyway can i get the reference how you know the date and what happened in that date. You know there is mentioning date is hexi quest but i forgor
Oh thanks
Wait, around what year are the current timeline?
962
Outside hexi where mc live is 962
And Tang fall around 900-ish?
In hexi mc is time traveler. There is kid at liangzhou know that we're from future i forgot to screenshot it
907 yes
Assuming li zhuo is 70 now, that means he was 13 when his family got killed around 905
lizuo isn't supposed to live this long, but bc of qingyi (who drank the poison that was supposed to kill him), he lived until now
This doesn't match, unless we assume that he's older now, since he got dethroned at 16 (908). Tang doesn't fall before he abdicated
yep, it's the period, talking about tang's decline & the start of the 5 dynasties 10 kingdoms
Also, when does tang exactly fall? I thought after li zhuo abdicated, there's some short time that tang still stand but then messed up and china breaks into 5 dynasties
He may have survived, but tang still fell nevertheless (although the game used him as an opening to introduce fictional content, they still stick tight to historical events). Zhu Wen established later liang at 908, that's why lizuo has his crazy obsession of rebuilding Tang, because no matter his life status, tang would still fall
In real life he died very young
In game he become immortal trying to restore tang dynasty or something
I see, so tang fell directly after he abdicated
QinChuan would explain things, as it will be talking about that period of when tang fell
I hope we can get some foreshadowing on li zhuo in qinchuan
Even though LiZuo was pushed up the throne, he was a puppet ruler and had to listen to ZhuWen for everything, which means he has no authority over things plus he's still too young for stuff
Also if someone can elighten me on why the name of the dynasty usually doesn't match with the name of the ruler? Ex: Song dynasty but the emperor has zhong as a surname
Tang dynasty but li zhuo is li
we do get a fair share of stories about him in qinchuan, so it would make things clearer for sure
Because that what dynasty mean dynasty is when the name same family become ruler.
Like habsburg dynasty
Whatever dynasty
Habsburg descendant still has their family name attached
But Tang dynasty with family name Li?
Dynasty names & the imperial family's names doesn't have to match (and they rarely use their surnames, bc some surnames have a huge family branch, which makes it very common, it will cause confusion), it was usually chosen based on their political legitimacy/geographical roots. Tang was called Tang because the founding emperor, Li Yuan's great grandfather was given the title 唐国公 (Duke of Tang, as he was a prominent official during the western wei), to demonstrate the legitimacy of his power and honor his family's legacy, he adopted "Tang" as the dynastic name. For Song's case, ZhaoKuangYin served as a palace guard commander for the Late Zhou Dynasty & was the military governor of the GuiDe army. The GuiDe army headquarters was at SongZhou, so for ZhaoKuangYin, the foundation for his power & success was from SongZhou, which is why he adopted Song for the dynasty name. I might make mistakes/miss out stuff, so feel free to add on
I see, thank you very much for the explanation
Honestly I can see his point of obsession, but he really threw his humanity & kindness out of Earth, he had been under so much emotional pressure
google exists 😭😭
In a way…. Part of him died with the end of tang dynasty, so….
to
I love lore
At least he was at the "right" track until QingYi died and not even his close friend Wang Qing could pull him back
is there a lore behind the unfinished scroll event? or is it meant to symbolize how paintings from that era survive through time and stuff
JUSTICE FOR ZHANG HUAISHEN!
can someone tell me about the fate of the blind girl?
apparently there's a clue about her somewhere on the map but I havent find it
I think she moves to Chang'an and opens a An's flatbread
Can you guys give me a good site on where I can find female chinese names that work for the world setting?
That's just her fantasize story, Chang an already lost by then its impossible to go there and open a shop
There should be a hint about Chang an fate when you hear the npcs talking about an's shop during the marriage carriage part (right before the ending)
well he lost the mandate of heaven so that was that 🙂
AI actually works quite well for that sort of thing 🙂
ooof, i dont use ai, andi m not educated enough on wether tell if that ai using good sources etc
I’d just look for lists online and take your pick
oof, i was found a site, with a generator, but since i dont know full chinese, it was confusing me quite a bit lol
i just want a name with wolf or star in it for women, but the ugh, way naming is done, confuses me lol
oof, i wish i could link site, but rip ig
waiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit that works well
just a caution, wolves were not well regarded in the tang dynasty.. so in case AI didn't already tell you that.. 😄
no, i know, i got a lore reason for that, why i asked more about wuxia names instead
shes spouse to be low key edgey, on evil side lol
Yue Linglang (月灵狼) i think ill go with this,
ty for suggestion
Is it impossible for it to be rebuilt when she gets there? sorry just coping
Historian will say they're best friends
facts, sadly
wow that workss
Guanyin?
Oh
Apparently Shen Hanying has already developed the Snowparting Blade style and the one we use is the current aggressive style
Yep
I guess that means there's a potential second Heng Dao style(?)*
Backed up from the stuff absent in EN text
changan is still there at that point of time, but the chaos makes the place unfit for survival (even before its burnt), we don't have the map of changan so we wouldn't know what state changan is. If you return to the pavilion at cao manor, you could pick up a book, and it says guanyin had reached changan, so it's another open ending
there's only one for now, snowparting blade = hengdao
||After An Liuli fell into the abyss, Guanyin did not know the fact that she is gone, so Guanyin kept waiting for Liuli to travel to chang'an with iirc. She opened a bakery called 'An's flatbread' and hoping 1 day she'll meet Liuli again.||
Some of the lore seems to be missing from the EN version (and what is there sometimes doesn't match the in-game version of events.)
a good example would be the new heng blade martial arts where they robbed almost half of the content😭
whaaaaa?
was there meant to be more for the Heng Dao?
#📖lore-chat message you can refer here for snowparting (rough translation)
She locked herself in a blade tomb after seeing the corpses of all 300 WoH disciples and refined the basics of the techniques. This also explains the counterattack in the current style.
Does anyone know why the story shifted focus from the mc to the side characters
Is the mcs story over
SHY allowed 300 disciples to join WQ on the Battle of Zhongdu bridge and she joined when the war's over to see their dead bodies
For phalanxbane blade too, it's greatly robbed if you compare the length (with more detail of how huaishen went from not understanding why his master guohuailie wanted him to train with the mo blade, when his master was known for his spear arts, to developing a martial art that all Raging Tides disciples would practice it)
Will be back after Qinchuan
This is why Global should hire more human translators instead of AI
In promise to the veiled lady for information about qianye/aunt han (forgive me, I can't quite remember), we had to repair the painting to try to get something she wanted, once qinchuan & the complete dark surge is out, everything would make sense
Also, Hexi is utilized as a reflection of the Mc's inner conflict and emotions after the events Qinghe and Kaifeng, and the story reflects this through the use of side characters to reflect not only the time frame of which these events occurred but how it is all about the Wanderers' journey in overcoming their inner demon. All will make sense once Qinchuan comes out.

WOW that's a half a sandwich cut, only thing there is half bread and ham with how short it is. sheeeeeeeesh
You gonna need scholars to translate wall of text classical chinese
typical translators won't cut it
It's like slicing a cake and taking only one small piece out of the rest
honestly they should use deepseek. People are against AI but I think we'd rather have a mostly correct, complete lore than something that's completely irrelevant and generic.
hello, wanna ask. why all npc have "govermant rest day" merchant. how to make them work ?
pls help, new player here
use goosy slide in front of them
i ald complete all champaighn but that skill not unlock
also wrong channel, there's #🌱beginner-questions for this stuff
thanks
it's like baking a rich black forest cake, cutting a small piece out of it and labelling it "rich cake" 🙂
This story is so cute ❤️
The whole story about Huaisheng and his master and the old man general from the desert was cut from the translation
tragic
maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan, and he's my fave character ;-;
A humble attempt for the phalanxblade, the poeticness used is difficult to bring out
As much as I understand their concerns of the text being extremely lengthy (and knowing not much people would read it), to those who love to dig up details of the lore is equilvalent of robbing them
With the amount of content in game, I'm honestly not against of them using AI to ease up the workload, but they would definitely need people in verifying and do tweaks when needed
tho I can see that they're trying to optimizing things here and there from hexi content we have so far if compared to the past content
there's also the fact we're supposed to be getting Imperial Palace this year alongside CN soooooo
whole lotta potential crunch?
I feel like with Global's current pace, it'll be about 3 months early
I'm honestly curious what they'll release first, but I think we would have a longer time without content (much like the gap between kaifeng & hexi), since they're still updating things here and there
That's an obvious joke when there's those 3D gacha game teams and they're much bigger than WWM's global team
The story is too depressing
yep, we might get some early stuff at this point
Ohhh I just started it 😭

we already get certain parts of kaifeng & hexi way earlier (with a much more rapid update), tho the wait is still expected for them to localize and optimize the content
Me too
Help!
Guys if anyone have goosy slide please help me 🥹
Braaaa why is the story so sad 😭
Yeah so sad story and it's about gay love story
😝
hmmmmm
At least it's tasteful at that. But not something one can change, only experience. Because the whole Hexi Expansion takes place in a friggin Picture
guys anyone have gossy slide please help me unlock it
If anyone help you i want to 🥺
If the game tells us how much time has passed then we should be able to know what event our melon's up to
It's best to head to #🌱beginner-questions for it, as this is a lore chat
How much do you like the Hexi Story?
Good 👍🏻 or bad👎🏻 ?
zhao guangyi……
Some Parts are ok, some aren't.
hell yeah
nope, they already have chapter 4
my daily comment comes here

this girl looks pretty. is she a nice person in where winds meet?
Don't trust people you meet, let's leave it at that 🙂
You are about to find out
||i really wanna waste him and feed him to the dogs. how dare he bully granny?||
still busy hating that fat official
Play longer and you might be surprised what happens.
dont tell me this official suddenly is the nicest guy on earth. i will flip table
It’s all in how you are able to catch/inteprit what is happening. Overall I think it’s pretty good!
Play it further.
Nope, never that. But before getting to him, you'll have to get through a Passage with a bit of Press-button-at-the-right-time. If your Rig isn't too good, curb the Graphic Settings, or the lag will make it somewhat hard to get through that.
its okay as long as i can continue hating that fat official. omg really wanna rip him to shreds
Then you're in for a Treat 😄
||So the ember of the east from the beginning of the Kaifeng story is also yingying?||
Spoiler Tag be nice...
||where is weiyang city and what do they want? Why’d they replace lord shi to confiscate tang coins||
Final Kaifeng Mission will reveal quite a bit, so not going to spoiler that now.
I completed it, didn’t really follow though. ||from what I understand weiyang city wants to confiscate tang coins (replacement lord shi was doing this), but why? Is yingying still in contact with weiyang/did she collude with lord shi?||
||after you defeat avarice what even happens, like emperor zhao shows up and he already know about lord shi being replaced? Isn’t this whole outcome unsuccessful for yingying and co since they stopped confiscating tang coins and economy prospered after anyways||
Also still not clear on this, like ||obviously yingying is ember of east but wasn’t he being held by the Kaifeng prefect guy the entire time? How is yingying just randomly there throughout the whole story then||
Hi I just wanted to ask ik it sounds stupid but when will the game release on the xbox?

Why she blind tho I don't get explaination why she become blind
there is no lore, only China history from the past !
Still a lore
I love how there's lore for the sect masters and the past ones too
Does anyone remember the mysterious woman we meet in unbound cavern while doing the campaign ? She says we owe her a favour for telling us where the dark room is. Do we see her again?
Oh the explanation I found was that she was attacked on the bridge remember? That’s when her eyes got injured too
I also got curious about that question hahahahaha
At least at the last part, the lesbian manage to use the trick to get to the moon sort of
The whole Hexi talked about Chang an so much will we get a Chang an map in the future
🤘
Oh my gyatt jade gate pass and liangzhou lore connected. Young master the time traveler
Absolute cinema
No she actually fell and died, the moon trick I think is just a hope or dreamlike. She worked in a circus she has tricks but not magic 😭
That's why the paper moon flew from blind girl pocket and faded away at the end
hi, i just finished all dark surge in qinghe, got the key and use it on the cottage above halo peak. when i open the small chest iside, there are cutscene of a guy with soldier.. i dont understand.. how it related to tian ying lore?
Ohhh so miss cao went to Chang an alone in the end?
ohhh nice didn't realize the story of the two bears was connected to that fox story in Liangzhou. Great find!
If i not mistaken that tian ying disguise as other people Lord Li. So tian ying identity could die and no one hunt him anymore.
not
But there is plot hole tho. How does other people who chase tian ying know that mc kill tian ying. there only tian ying and mc fighting at that pagoda. I don't see anyone watch them or does mc go spread rumor "i kill tian ying" or something
Yes there is rumor tian ying come back to pagoda but there is no rumor he dead or something.
Its an open ending I'm not sure where she ends up
at the end of the tian ying boss fight, he falls into the water and presumably “dies”. but in reality, that was his way of faking his death as tian ying, so that he could go under a new identity as lord li to infiltrate the khitans
is the mc the son of an emperor or something
No they are not 😅
We don't know their birth parents yet
The MC is us

Any explaination about wth this snake is supposed to be i didn't understand it
Not really, the young master has their own life and story
he was just there terrorizing me as if I'm playing GOW and he's just dead in one stab
when does the story go back to non imagination? tired of 'it was just a dream' except i know it's a dream...
Will be explained when ur at the end of the quest
Last part of hexi will be out this week
all will be revealed and make sense
certainly hope so
i wish we could fight that snake ....
Already fought a better snake no?

Moonmaiden
Iirc the snake represents the desires of Zhang Yichao

is the grave near the jiuquan teleport actually the nameless art creator?
amazing story indeed
The snake is Yichao's "selfishness" of wanting his name to be recognised and recorded by history & Tang
thanks for the info
Can't wait for the new patch to arrive
This game is something great!
ready to go to qinchuan
Agreed
I can’t believe ign rated this as a 6 star 🤣 this is a legendary game simple

did "A faltering flame" quest, translation is so bad
I did finish it, didn't make sense
Kn what way
Ohhh, and why a snake exactly?
❤️
Where my hot wife? 😤
It came from a famous idiom 杯弓蛇影 (literal: mistaking the shadow of a bow as a snake, actual meaning: describing someone/something to be extremely suspicious or to be paranoid over imaginary fear). Another reference is from the inscription 《敕河西节度兵部尚书张公德政之碑》or more commonly known as ZhangYiChao's monument of virtuous rule/ZhangHuaiShen's monument, the inscription is about the Zhang family's deeds & achivements in reclaiming Hexi. There is a part that describes ZhangYiChao's life during his final years in Chang'An, the original text is “忽遘悬蛇之疾,行乐往而悲来;俄惊梦奠之灾,谅有时而无命。” , which means (I use the underlying meaning here): Caught in a web of mutual suspicion and political vigilance, metaphorized as the 'hanging snake', his later years in the capital appears as a celebration, but in reality it was silent grief (the tragic shift from his heroic/reputable military career to his restricted, "honorable" detention in Chang'an). Haunted by the court's distrust, he eventually succumbed to his fate in the shadows of the imperial city. The illness 悬蛇之疾 (Illness of the Hanging Snake) is also a reference to the idiom I mentioned earlier, that symbolizes the mutual distrust between him & the Tang court. Since liangzhou is also represented by wine cups, the idiom fits perfectly in this case.
This is so peak
I really love how the devs used all sorts of references, it's really interesting to analyse. There's also another point, which is the word 束手 (literal meaning is having one's hands/body tied, actual meaning is submitting), that appeared in ZhangHuaiShen's first question to his uncle in his will & his iconic heartbreaking line "淮深无罪,无罪之人,不当束手"(I am innocent, and an innocent man does not submit). From the inscription there's a sentence: “事有进退,未可安然,须拜龙颜,束身归阙。”, that means "The fluctuating circumstances cannot be taken lightly. It is necessary to seek the emperor and surrender myself entirely to the capital. The original is written in a very formal way, 拜龙颜 for example is a respectful way of saying meeting the emperor, for 束身归阙, it means to bind one's body (literal), in this case is voluntary submission to the court to prove that they have no intention of rebelling (YiChao), which is also why during Huaishen's last moments, his first question was asking his uncle, why Yichao submitted despite knowing what will possibly happen. It's also a contrast of how words describe something (in an extremely glorious way, because YiChao technically sacrificed in exchange for peace in Hexi), yet in reality this is the most rational decision he could make. The moment he decided to head to chang'an, he has become a soulless hostage & could never return home
Where winds meet ? Nah this is where my intel's ends meet 😭
I play in mobile 😭
Folk i understood why the one message about the explaination of the snake but let's chill with the paragraph 😭😭😭😭 i read the same sentence thrice
Sorry sorry
Sry with that, some of the lore enjoyers here rlly love digging deep with the details, but it's all good, it can be a bit repetitive due to language barriers

is yingying ||the ember of the east that appeared at the gathering of heros||?
The game really likes to give obvious hints about identities of characters that they're not being subtle about it
Everyone what is the Wucan exactly?
And thank you for that, really
||at first i pity this widow now i hate her for being a snitch||
somebody play with me bro
#looking-for-group and #looking-for-pvp are better places to ask this
I don't have permission to message in that channel
Just need to partcipate in discussions to reach level 2 then you can. Best places are #💬martial-pavilion and #💬off-topic This channel is specifically for discussing the in-game lore
all the regions we have so far or will have in Future actually existed in China or still are?
Saw some names pop up on maps so making sure
Lmk if I should ask this elsewhere lol
omg that lord shi is a god. this kaifeng is going to the drains mannnn
you should ask this in harry potter jkjk
autumn! How have you been?
Btw you intend to watch the new upcoming hp Serie?
not really unless u wanan watch together and laugh together? but i have no hbo max hahahah
Me neither lol
Some bad casts really made me lose my motivation to watch it anyway
hahaaha we can go and have a hp 1-7 marathon
||honestly, if you disregard the fact that she trusted a corrupt official to help her sick kid, it's understandable||
I don't really like saying this, but only a few can replace blood bond within family members
go ask in #🌱beginner-questions or #🧐pve-build-discussion
oh my bad i thought i was already in beginner questions
thats because she only remember those in power , not those who helped her
The one who helped her ended up having their plan in failure. For a parent in desperation, it's understandable if she would do questionable stuff just to make her kid not sick again
It's not justified, but I can understand her action
thats why i only hate her and despise her.
That's understandable, no one likes getting betrayed
I mean it’s a case of desperate people doing desperate things. She is literally feeding blood to her own child
The story is so dense and packed I love it!
In order to guarantee that Liangzhou would thrive he lied took upon himself the role of leader, the man waited for so long for the opportunity to prove himself that he realized the time was now. The giant snake symbolizes the want to stay as the ruler of Liangzhou, but by the end of that story he realizes that the people will remember him for what he’s done for them even when he’s gone so heads to Chang’an. The small child is a version of him, adventurous and the need to finally prove himself after such a long time biding his time and building connections. Which is why during the end of that mission he looks at the painting they made of him and decides to head to Chang’an.
I know I’m missing a few details here but that’s the gist of what I understood xP
I hope we get some backstory of Yi dao too.. i mean a bit more of it... or did i miss it??
sometimes i just don't understand the lore properly lol
but then it just starts making sense
Hello guys, I’m bored. Is anyone here who wants to chat?

@gritty night loves lore
I don't have time to scroll but whoever suggested i go with legend play through 😭, may thunder strike you
I guess so, the new season starts.
can anyone simplify the story about tianying, ye wanshan and lucky seventeen?
You are in the wrong channel
Thats what a person who plays on mobile would say since its not unlocked yet
H
hi wwm players,

Basically like this :
-> Tianying joins hanging blade
-> Hanging blade has a kid followed them, former emperor finds him cute and called him lucky 17 (original hanging blade has 16 members, perhaps he named himthat way as an adorable remark to bring luck towards the group)
-> Since tianying is in hanging blade, naturally he knows lucky 17
-> Buddhism in china goes to extreme length to the point that a village asks the villagers to kowtow 3 thousand times to get a blessing from buddha
-> former emperor dislike this extreme and he needs more materials to prepare for war (basically he wants to reclaim lost territory)
-> but if he drops the imperial decree to destroy buddha statue and yeet the copper to military, it would look bad on the people's eyes
-> so tianying was like, "hey, I got a plan. What about I disguise myself as buddhist monk and tell the people that extremeness is bad?" and it was agreed.
-> so the miaoshan identity was born. But to make people trusted him, he carved a jade ball and create halo light. People thought, "oh, this guy is blessed by buddha" and begins follow him.
-> sometime after this, former emperor got sick and military preparations went into a halt.
-> Ye wanshan, a general that was tasked in one of the cities, grew frustrated by the silence of the court that he ended up attacking his own city to force the court to continue the expedition. After that, he was succumbed to guilt
-> miaoshan heard this incident, go to ye wanshan's place and give him a half of jade ball
-> the other half was trusted to lucky 17. This was done to ensure no one knew the secret behind halo light
the person lucky17 was waiting for? is it miaoshan or ye wanshan? thanks for this!
No, it was the other guy
The leader of the hanging blade
Which, I forgot his name
But he's close to the former emperor
Speaking of, I still wonder does the current emperor not know the existence of the hanging blade?
He were military general at some point, and I doubt he wouldn't know a thing about it
So, the romance of the 3kingdoms and where winds meet, what is the year cap between them ?
3 kingdoms is around 200-300ish, right?
So probably around 600-700 years
We're currently in song dynasty
:0 I thought this was just before the song
The current emperor is from the song
Does this server not have a help channel
Can you see this? #🌱beginner-questions
Current year is 962 if that helps
i couldnt maybe i need glasses but at the same time im pissed at how i always have login issues with this game
Hi everyone!
Hello
the original is supposed to be 不见山 (Unseen mountain), as the mohists isolated themselves due to an incident
Yep, I did a short summary of why exactly a snake is used to represent his selfishness out of all animals (just a couple of messages before that one), it not only represents his own desires/selfishness for his life achivements, but also represent the underlying distrust between both sides. The child is the innocent side/the hope of returning to Tang of him, which clearly makes a contrast as no one is completely black/white, the moment the child (A'Hui) eliminated the snake, the child disappears as YiChao finally saw through reality

That quest and Death of the Governor are my faves in Hexi
What is this
I like how they presented the story in the death of governor quest, the boss design also have a lot of references
The foreboding star Wucan, Suo betraying you halfway into the fight, and Zhang Huaishen's last appearance...just one of the best
the fact there are 3 potential suspects but it is never clear who did it is just PEAK
the quest pace is so slow but the lore is worth it
exactly
AND the Assassin being Aynur's Brother blew my mind
its not a surprising fact tho
he was forced to kill to get the antidote and live bc he was told that his sister was still alive
and even more characters, no matter intentional/unintentional, everyone is contributing to his death
It's so goooooood!
The Glue from Glory encounter lowk reminds me of death of the governor campaign
||cuz of the killing of the horse and its offspring||
reminds me of|| zhang huaishen's death along with his 6 children||
It's mirroring how huaishen and his children got killed, iirc there's an npc with a cart that also mentions about them
he didn't know what exactly is inside the bag and the pieces even leaked out
well ig the scriptwriters r really up to some good and evil at the same time
good for making the lore tightly linked tgt evil for hurting our emotions
It only hurts more knowing this is something that happened in the past🫠
yh, no power to change

summary
even when you do the right things in the wrong world you pay for it
You can't blame the others either (even though their ways aren't the best way), that's their own view and decision made to survive in the chaos, under these circumstances, huaishen's way was the odd one out
Had he been someone outside of the Zhang's things would've been different
but because he has birthright/blood claim to the throne it made him a target the moment Zhang Yichao left
what's most unnerving is that it all happened in a night where they were celebrating the man himself while he was locked away in a monastery
And the fact the distrust passed down, ever since YiChao stood out, to HuaiShen, Huaishen made countless requests, yet the court's distrust only deepened as the Guiyi army made more and more achievements.🥹 Everyone witnessed how excellent he was, yet ones power is limited
It really shows how petty the court was that they opened up the possibility to congratulate Huaishen with a gift or kill him, or both. They just left it open to whatever the eunuch or assassin they sent needed to do.
the court was just scared of more rebelions
Like for us in the future who review the story and incidents, we can tell, YiChao & HuaiShen meant no harm, but for those who were experiencing in real time, there are too much uncertanties and fears, Tang was already in shambles, they can't afford another hit from rebellions🥹 now this is making me sad again
I think I cried after I put everything together from anecdotes and encounters how everything was leading up to his death, and even before then I would remember the trailer for Liangzhou where we see him treading and walking in snow, up to the scene where he faces off against Wucan.
Although he may be gone, I feel as if part of him in that scene was fighting alongside The Wanderer in a way. We beat Wucan on behalf of Liangzhou and Huaishen
don't even get me started on the soundtrack
Will we get another past history dlc like hexi in future?
YES, but we're not close I don't think
Aw okay
from what I've seen through clips of CN, rest assured that there will be places with a large focus on the past like Hexi
even not so explicitly like in Hexi, a lot of quests & stories do have their own base references to different aspects, so sit tight😆
The last part when we completed the will, with the gourd of no return encounter, wwm did a good job is presenting the stories that got buried by history & time
Damn that's awesome to hear, tho some intro quest are quite chatty until the end only the connection made sense, at least to me
Peak writing
The devs love to scatter the pieces everywhere, and players had to connect them all like a detective (but good thing we have the compendium that records everything)
and it being your introduction to the Raging Tide sect is the cherry ontop
what quest i need to do after kaifeng?? i forgot and now i'm just outta the story path
you can press J to check your journal it should tell you your next main story quest
hmm oki lemme try
it says lonely moon over chang'an
did i miss the story of desert region of hexi?
was it only burlap sack?
and how does that relate to MC after kaifeng?

it does feel like a bit of a filler arc. but there are a lot of historical relevance.
That makes more sense, how can they call it nameless mountain when "nameless" is a name 🙂
only global plebs called it nameless lol
its obviously had a name in chinese "bujianshan" despite the meaning it should be the legit name of the map
or mohist hill if the localization team want to be creative
honestly this name is kinda hard to translate (in general, special nouns are hell to localize), so I'm curious what they will use from the glitch method, it's written as unseen mountain so, I'm not sure where the nameless mountain came from
hi everyone
anyone little help need
I mean the cosmetic have preview of future boss official EN names
For mq on desert region, yes
It tells a story before the fall of the tang
Not related, but I assume we got yeeted to the past by the veiled lady
It's not the mc story, it's what happened 200 years prior to the current timeline
hmm yea...
thanksss
Honestly, I prefer it that way. I play a game where it focuses on mc too much to the point it becomes boring
An open-world game too. I don't think it's a great idea to have an open world genre and the story revolves around "mc, mc, mc" .
I just think it would be more suited to learn about the world itself. Who're the people, how're they living, how do they persist, etc.
yea that's right we need some world building for the story too
WAIT WHATTT DID THEY MAKE HER BLIND???? IN THAT LIANGZHOU STORY???
Hexi's msq is divided between 3 parts (Desert, liangzhou, qinchuan), the devs took a different turn where the actual relation will be presented in the dark surge instead
oki
thanks
In the last pilgrim encounter, is the monk wukong that famous wonk from journey to the west?
yes, losely based on it, the journey of him on the silkroad
yes but at least she still lived
I hope so..
but at least shes pretty
Journey to the West’s monk Tang Sanzang (not Wukong) is based on the actual monk Xuanzang who made the pilgrimage at that time.
So Qiuanye is a man?
Which is weird because the snake being evil is more of a western biblical thing isn't it? There's a year of the snake, it being 6th in the great race and all.
If you want to say "evil and underhanded" in Chinese it's usually wolves and jackals.
Snake doesn’t represent evil there, I don’t think it was ever said it is supposed to be seen like that?
Western and Eastern have different beliefs in animals, which sets them far apart
So what does it represent? If you want to say someone is selfish and greedy, maybe you'd call him a wolf or a jackal.. because wolves steal livestock and jackals steal from them.
Eternal mentioned “selfishness’, that is not greed or evil. To me it represents good initial intentions grown out of proportion to protect what matters to the point of becoming the danger themselves.
Wait, I don't understand. Can you please explain it?
👐
heyyy
what do you think the snake represents?
It kinda depends on the context tbh snakes can represent different things like temptation, danger, or even transformation and rebirth.
The selfishness here isn't the evil kind of selfishness, but rather YiChao's personal desire of wanting his name to be recognized in historical records, wanting his achievements & deeds be well known throughout the future generations. The original used it's 私心, which technically selfishness also fits, but it's more towards their personal desire. It can be either good/bad depending on the context, which is why I kept using quotation marks when using the word as it is not greed, for YiChao, that's his dream of being recognized as the hero. In terms of Chinese Zodiac, snakes are known to represent wisdom & observance, symbolizing tenacious vitality with the ability to make plannings in a calm & strategic manner (which fits YiChao, as he patiently waited for the best chance to strike). Their personalities are characterized as being intensive, focused and versatile/talented, though they are also prone to skepticism/suspicion.
So the snake is the cunning, wise and strategic person that he had to kill in order to go back to the capital. Hence he says he didn't die in the capital, he died here.
@sharp lily btw where are u from?
this isn't the forum for that, maybe ask in #💬off-topic
Oh my bad didn’t realize, thanks for letting me know.
is there a martial god in the game
It depends on how the wise & strategic character is used. For YiChao, he used it for the good/righteousness, even when Tang expressed their distrust towards him, he only thought that he didn't perform well enough, and proceeded to achieve even more feats, which improved the folk's lives the more prefectures he claimed. His desire to earn a name, the desire to return to Tang, and the desire to return peace to the folks, all can be considered as his "selfishness", they're all a representation of human nature, picturing YiChao's complex feelings. If we see things from the idiom abt mistakening the reflection of the bow as a snake, YiChao sees himself as the bow that contributes in a righteous way to Tang, but Tang who suffered from rebellions only saw a snake whose intentions unknown, and might backstab them anytime. In the end, after eliminating the snake (YiChao's desires), the child (reclaiming lost lands & returning to Tang) disappeared simultaneously, it's equilivalent to how YiChao finally saw through reality. For hexi, for the Guiyi army, for the Zhang family, for the folks and everything he was responsible for, he has become a soulless political hostage the moment he went to Chang'An. In cn, the quest is called 此身归唐, 身(shen) here means body, his body did return to Tang, but his heart (soul, made up by the complexity of feelings) is already dead the moment he decided to go to Chang'An.
Yeah, it's more nuanced than you think,
Western belief tends to be more about black and white which makes it hard to take seriously, even the Bible about animals which does this aspect should not be taken seriously either.
This implies that he was never a hero. He was just a guy doing something he had to do.
Question outside of the first area of the map are any of the new ones somewhat multiplayer? Like the main story or side stories
A good contrast to the snake representation (in terms of evil), would be the white serpent mentioned in the Swordsmith's Notes (about the origin of Palebreak 破白). YiChao came from a reputable family, but he couldn't bear to watch the folks suffering while he's having a better life (also, he had a decent upbringing that shaped his righteousness), he once swore to reclaim ShaZhou (the place he was born from), and the serpant that the young boy (YiChao) wanted to eliminate is the cruel and tyrannical rule of the Tibetans that time. He was anxious, he felt lost because his own power was limited, while more and more commoners were suffering under the tibetian's rule (he did think of launching his attacks immediately, but he was calmed by his master, and was told to wait for the chance). The chance finally came after half a decade, when he was 49, he basically poured his whole lifespan just to solve the root cause of the chaos, and succeeded beautifully. As a normal human like anyone else, he couldn't differentiate what exactly should be his dreams, or "selfishness". The hesitation of responding to the decree, was exactly because he couldn't let down his worries, hexi has not return to Tang (bc he never had the official recognition). Only one last step to achieve this, but the moment he responded to the decree, it means he had to give up 70 yrs of effort (that's why YiChao's snake is here).
which tracks.. I don't think he ever married or had kids or even had friends.. his entire identity is wrapped up in his duty to Tang. He had to kill himself sort of.. so he could go back.
Yichao had a son, even more than one afaik, but he chose his brother’s son as his successor still
Journey to the West as a fictional story still has a real historical figure and event in its core - a buddhist monk who traveled to India to translate missing sutras/religious texts, that is Xuanzang. And time wise it happened during Tang (~630-645)
I see, so what about that eastbound monk named wukong?
Sun wukong is based on him
And if my memory serves me right, he's also a character in journey to the west, right?
Yeah he’s the monkey
Not a monkey monk?
Welll he became a monk at the end of the story i guess
I always thought he's a monkey monk for a long time based on his clothing and went, "ohh, that looks like a monk" when I watched that series as a kid
Oh hey that is interesting.. they didn't mention that in the game did they? I just looked into it and it seems he had three. Three wives and one son. And the son might not even have been his. Nowhere is Huaiding mentioned as son of Zichao. He married them as a tool of the empire, and he had a son.. that he passed over in favor of his nephew. Tells you something, doesn't it.
So guys what exactly happened in the final quest for the snow area ?
Like there was glowing light and the girl tried to touch it then that’s it ? What happened to the girl that ran into moon
Yeah, Huaiding was never fit for the position his father had; to the point that he was in on the assassination of Huaishen that night. Afterwards when Liangzhou has fallen he didn’t do a damn thing except try to scrub away any memory of Huaishen and the army after it all splintered and scattered.
The Tang were afraid of someone they didn’t pick ruling and possibly creating a rebellion against them which is why Yidao’s lie of being the leader of Hexi was possibly one of the very things he wanted to achieve. The man waited for years and years building connections and biding his time for the right opportunity to make a change and rise to the occasion. But the Tang didn’t see it that way, by the end of that quest it didn’t matter to Zhang Yichao because the painting they made in his honor helped him realize that even when is gone Liangzhou and Hexi, the places he helped thrive and build were enough. Which is why he leaves for Chang’an, his legacy lives on and the fire lives on.
Hi guys I have a question, is the Tang dynasty (and therefore the last Tang emperor Li Zuo) related to the Southern Tang (and the Ember of East, velvet shade, etc.) ?
Not really
It's quite complicated. The emperor of Southern Tang changed his last name from Li to Xu
Thanks !
Southern Tang has as much to do with Tang as old York has to do with New York 🙂
cant post ss there 🙁
chat more, lvl up to lvl 5 to send images
hi
👍
best quest in Hexi!
ZhangHuaiDing is YiChao's son (and he do have daughters as well, his 14th daughter married Li MingZhen, in game's Li HuiShen might be based on him), who followed YiChao to Chang'an as a hostage. HuaiYue is also based on YiChao's daughter who married Suo family, which is Suo Jing (based on irl Suo Xun). For returning to Tang, I'm pretty sure he's not satisfied with the whole political hostage thing. In order to prove that he has no intention in rebelling against Tang, he had to sacrifice his brother, Zhang YiTan (Huaishen's father). It's basically imprisonment packaged under glory, and the cycle will not stop as long as Tang remained distrustful towards the Zhang family. He already planned to hand over the position to Huaishen as he saw the potential in Huaishen, huaishen is the best candidate that could continue his will. With the amount of forces he has, he could just screw Tang whenever he wanted to, but he chose not to, because that will only shatter the peace he finally earned for the folks after waiting for half a decade.
Fun fact
||In your fight at wucan campaign if suo jing disappears from your screen he's going to backstab you||
Nope, although they all share the same surname which is Li, they're different forces, if you're interested, this is a short summary about the 3 "Tangs" that will appear in game (the second will make an appearance in QinChuan), but I might make some mistakes so feel free to add on
#📖lore-chat message
"I see you coming" unlocked
i never lock target in for wucan, so i can keep an eye on him lmao
Nah that gold attack is dumb brooooooooooo

This guy did no damage to wucan but chucked half of my hp
Huaiding didn't have a good ending in history either, he passed due to illness shortly (not even 2 years after taking up the position)
Holy Karma
Trying to catch up a bit on the newest region lore before the next one drops, just need a little TLDR;
I'm a bit lost on where and when in the timeline hexi and all the other places mentioned through the campaign are in. Is this in the past way before kaifeng and qinghe? And then I saw another video that said Liangzhou and Jade Gate Pass are the same place just decades apart? What's the timeline between jade gate pass, liangzhou, liangzhou fallen and now Qinchuan coming out? I still don't get why everyone wants to go "home" to Chang'an or where that even fits in the story.
#📖lore-chat message Here's the approximate timeline. Chang'an not only symbolizes the capital of Tang, it represents the people's homesickness, and a desire of a place/time with lasting peace & political stability, when they were suffering from chaos and war
So the entire chapter of Hexi stretch from 742 AD to 907 AD.
Jade Gate Pass is between 742 AD to 808 AD
Liangzhou is between 851 AD to 890 AD
Qinchuan is between 901 AD to 907AD
No, Jade Gate Pass and Liangzhou are real physical locations in China, same as Qinchuan, not the same place in different times
A big part of the confusion is that WWM mixes real Chinese geography, historical symbolism, and different eras into one emotional narrative instead of following a strict historical timeline.
Hexi (河西) is especially important symbolically. Historically, the Hexi Corridor was the narrow western route connecting the Chinese heartland to the Silk Road and the Western Regions. In a lot of Chinese historical memory and literature, Hexi represents frontier land that was gradually lost, isolated, occupied, or fought over during periods of chaos and invasion.
So in the game, Hexi is less “a specific year on a map” and more a symbol of:
- borderlands devastated by war,
- displaced people trying to return east,
- broken connections to the old empire,
- and territory no longer fully controlled by the central dynasty.
That’s why so many characters obsess over “going home” to Chang’an. Chang’an represents the lost center of civilization, stability, and identity. Even if they have never truly lived there, it exists almost like a cultural memory of a golden age.
Kaifeng, Qinghe, Liangzhou, Jade Gate Pass, and now Qinchuan are not really meant to be read as a clean linear sequence across decades. The game compresses inspirations from late Tang, Five Dynasties, Song, and frontier folklore together. Liangzhou and Jade Gate Pass are geographically connected regions in the far northwest, but the story uses them more like different emotional stages of the frontier collapsing:
- Jade Gate Pass = the edge of the civilized world,
- Liangzhou = a major frontier city struggling to survive,
- Hexi overall = the abandoned western frontier,
- Qinchuan = the road back toward the old Chinese heartland.
So the “timeline” is intentionally dreamlike and fragmented. The important part is the emotional direction: people are moving from ruined frontier lands back toward the symbolic center of civilization while the world around them falls apart.
And Qinchuan (秦川) carries even deeper historical symbolism. It refers to the Guanzhong plain and the broader Shaanxi region — one of the true cradles of Chinese civilization.
Historically, this region was the homeland of the Zhou Dynasty, which is generally considered the first fully developed orthodox dynasty and the foundation of classical Chinese political culture. The Zhou Dynasty lasted from approximately 1046 BC to 256 BC — nearly 800 years, making it the longest-lasting major dynasty in Chinese history.
Many core ideas associated with later Chinese civilization either emerged or were formalized during the Zhou era:
- the concept of the “Mandate of Heaven,”
- the feudal order of early China,
- classical ritual systems,
- and the cultural identity later associated with Han Chinese
So when WWM moves toward Qinchuan, it is not just geographically moving eastward. Symbolically, the story is moving back toward the ancient birthplace of Chinese civilization itself — toward origins, legitimacy, memory, and the idea of “home” on a civilizational level, not just a personal one.
The dynasty before Zhou Dynasty were considered as Tribal dynasties.
thats a lot of dmg what'd u even do lmao
How do I redeem a code ?
Ask in #🌱beginner-questions
Settings -> Other -> Exchange Code. But next time ask in channel mentioned above 😄
Oh wow 😯 🔥
"due to illness" lol 😄
After Huaiding passed, the position got taken over multiple times, until 914, Cao YiJin took over the position (CaoJingGuanyin's family might be based on this cao family irl, and they're famous for political marriages to stabilize their power & control
)
The Zhangs also.. and the Suos and Lis.. all the powerful familes of every era want to mary their daughers off to each other 🙂
anybody know what the track is called that starts playing on the wwm homepage when heading to news tab, its fire
its also the track of the qinchuan preview on youtube

Thank you very much this was super complete!! I knew so very few of Chinese history but now playing the game I'm so interested
After blissful retreat even the npcs we saved doesn't recognize us
Is it all cuz of the damn mask or did ym use water lady's plastic surgery or smtg 😭
they know but they pretend that they don't know to protect us.
At this point of the story chang'an go kaboom right?
And i want to ask if there are any theories about like the entire map of wwm im just curious
It's called 月儿满满照秦川 (Full Moon Shining on QinChuan)
In qinchuan, yep. Regarding the full map of wwm, it's pretty much a mystery regarding how far the devs intend to expand the story
I see
Thanks you
So that's freaking why I keep seeing golden attacks in 2nd phase wtf
I thought on the first glance it was an utuk
Still, Zhang huaiden death is still pretty much mystery til today no?
That's why the boss is an amalgamation of the assumed assassin
And the assassin is the brother of aynur
Are the enemies in steeds pass unkillable
They look black and dont have a health bar
yep, the quest is bringing out the few forces of suspicions we have now
Guys is there a new weapon coming this update?
No. Wait for 3 months for the gauntlet and rope weapon
Still I admit the middle and final chapter of that quest loses that oompf because of how they portrayed the quest, but other than that, the premise of the story is good and it really shows how that slow trickling until to chaos occured
"The innocent does not submit"
there are 2 options:
you can destroy their corpse, they'll be killed instantly.
or go further and find a lake (?), make the ice melt and those creature will be back to a killable one.
you still need to make the ice melt to collect some chests so I recommend you did it first.
What happened to the woman who instigated suojin to commit treason tho?
guys i logged back in the game after some time
and i am studdenly playing as some old man
i don't remember what happend after kaifeng
Youre in the burlap sack quest in yumen pass
Youre in the past now
Long b4 zhao da founded kaifeng city
i see
hi, im working on wandering tales "A Flower Wish" in Flower Expanse Beyond. i got the manjusaka flower, but there are other girls around thousand buddha village (if im not mistaken) that crying on the side of the road asking for the same flower. what happen if instead of giving the flower to Yang Xin as per quest, i give it to the girl? is there any lore behind the flower? can i get more than 1 flower ingame?
Mhm, it totally depends on personal taste, I do like how they make us see things from different perspectives and how you can slowly thread the relationships between characters for that. The quote in cn hits so much harder🥹
Well, she's SuoJing's wife (HuaiYue), she is also having the greed of taking up the Guiyi army all to herself & doesn't want to submit/listen to huaiding for everything. Honestly not much is known after about her after, but SuoJing has been doing stuff like trying to preserve Huaishen's name with his own ways, and the jade box was passed down to him by huaishen as a last resort (dark surge). It's open ended, whether if people want to think he's double sided who felt guilty after betraying Huaishen and is doing whatever he could to make himself feel better, or he's acting all along to at least have a chance to save the Guiyi army (human nature is complicated so), since Suo Jing took over the position after Huaiding died.
I second this
Wow, they even go like "why tf did u bump into me" and beat me up 😂
fair enough.
Interesting, can you send pics here?
i cant 🙁 apparently my level is not high enought to send picture here
You have to level up in the server to be able to do certain things like send photos. You can level up by sending messages in chat (No spamming). You can check your level progress in #💎check-your-level
oh?!, oh nope, i still cant 🙁
Try to send dm my way
oh never mind, its her, the name is the same Yan Xin, but the location she spawn is not at the flower expanse but near Thousand Buddha Vale boundary stone =.= i dont remember the name but the location, and when i got her, the name is the same
I see, glad you figured it out
Speaking of the same name,
There's a madiao cards player named Li zhenzhen
She's also blind
who are these two supposed to be? i found this in palace of annals
the item is "list of yanyun remnants"
im really confused on which faction's uniform the all black outfit with the mask is
generally it's for Aureate Pavilion
but iirc there were times that the model is also used for other mobs due to cost-efficiency
so for the cutscene from that little hut (after completing all light and dark surges in qinghe) where tian ying walks out after doing some type of make up (im guessing its a reference to the face changing thing from the water lady), he walks out and there are like 20 of them wearing that waiting for his commands, are they aureate pavilion too?

I also wonder about that!! At first i dont even aware that the purple guy covered make up is another new disguise of tian ying! When he prepare for that persona and who those guys that escort him (coz they awfully looking the same as aureate pavilion mobs)
Im soo bad at maidiao so intentionally avoid it. Im not sure is it because of localization or no, but there are a lot of homonym name in chinese but different in actual chinese character so it can be same person or different
Too many sad blind character in this game :((
at first i had a suspicion it was him because everything was linked to him, especially because one of the last fragments i got was about the palace of annals banquet trap, i was 100% sure after seeing the dagger he leaves on the table, its the same one as his tian ying assassin phase in the boss fight
mods please pin these posts 😭
I don't fully understand the Zhang Yichao quest's story
This game's way of storytelling is kinda lost on me tbh
best game
honk honk!
Bro what even is happening in hexi
What is relation between mc and them side character from story quest
Introspection of our own mc trauma through other stories
Done
If there are any lore-posts which you guys would like to get pinned here, @ me
Thank you! You're the best
Do you get to meet the guy from the well again after completing that encounter?
When will the new level be released?
sunday?
everyday new level!
Huh, can't send yt link here
lore chat
The one in Qinghe? Yes! || iirc, you can bump into an NPC that strongly implies it's him, having stolen the identity of the guy he killed||
hexi story is cool don't get me wrong but the walking is killinggg me
I would recommend WWM Girl/Laufie's videos for context, and if you search up YiChao in the lore chat, we recently had some discussion about the story as well
Heard that Zhao Pu is the uncle of the big Z n Guangyi
What lore is this
it was killing them too lol
outside of the mask, that was fairly common attire. Maybe the rope is unique also but for the rest I guess it's not really a uniform or anything.
any recommendation on what order to do qinchuan's quests in?
