Song deserves credit for keeping together a wealthy and long-lasting regime amidst a political atmosphere of might makes right. It also deserves credit for ending the cycle of vicious/chaotic dynastic change after the fall of Tang. The period after the fall of Tang was like an uncontrollable tailspin that would have most probably brought about a complete foreign invasion, which may not be in the best interests of the people of China proper. When Zhao Kuangyin (Big Zhao) founded the Song, his policies introduced the antidote, the medicine that the realm needed at the time, to finally bring in some semblance of stability for the people. Think about the common folk. Stop thinking about how cool it is to look tough and invade realms and stuff like that. I think Song deserves some credit for maintaining a large piece of territory that is relatively wealthy and stable. Sure, their caution and prudence caused them to mess up later on, big time, but they still managed to hold the prosperous South so much longer when other powers fell.

We don't have to rate any particular dynasty highly. I think it is just fair to give credit where it is due and criticize where it is necessary. It will be silly to compare dynasties absolutely by saying Dynasty A > Dynasty B, because just like countries today, dynasties precipitate and emerge out of unique circumstances and were dealt different hands at different tables with different players. If you were dealt a horrible hand, you would deserve credit for lasting long in the game when pitted against ace players with great cards in their hands. Song was dealt a pretty poor hand (one of its trump cards was lost when Later Jin gave it to the Khitans - the Yanyun card; it was also deprived of the Hexi card, which would have given it access to all kinds of good stuff, like great horses and trade) and Song decided to play the game cautiously, defensively, in the face of hungry and tough competitors at the table (with great cards), and Song messed up several rounds but remained in the game (lots of chips; and it actually kept increasing its chips; got wealthy) for a lot of rounds and only folded when the Mongol player wiped almost everybody else out. And while all that is happening, many generations of Chinese prospered significantly, and the tech, skills, and knowledge accumulated by the Song would last long into future dynasties. Song was one of the greatest accelerator of innovation in Chinese history.

The quest was a bit dark, I agree. At first, I was skeptical but the man feels quite pitiful though also felt the same way YM does towards the man. The last ending was quite shocking by expected since based on what the man said he feels desperate to go out and might do anything (even harm YM, and did planned to do that) to come out of the well. The quest shows how YM is kind but also still a bit innocent at the start of the story. Glad YM grew up slowly but certainly.

Which was pretty epic... but would have drawn the suspicion of the Imperial Court... one might question why this name was picked for a child, especially one who was brought up in the army, a career military man.

But I think this type of naming wasn't unusual for aristocratic or military families like Big Zhao's.

It probably meant something more like "upholding the State", kinda like this boy was meant to protect the State

But it just so happened that he became Emperor, so the name, coincidentally, matched his fate.

Big Zhao's little brother, Little Zhao (as we gamers know him), was 赵光义 or Zhao Guangyi. Guang or 光 means illuminate or light while Yi or 义 means righteousness. So put together, Little Zhao's name meant "Illuminating righteousness" or you can interpret it as someone whose destiny was to uphold righteous conduct.

Big Zhao and Little Zhao's dad gave them some pretty epic names.
