Maybe that’s my issue, I’m not sure. Like if Big and Little Zhao are working together or they have different principles of the ends justifying the means. Like if what happened to Murong Yuan, Zheng E, and the Rivermaster was caused by the Song Dynasty but mostly under Little Zhao’s decisions I’d be less confused about Big Zhao’s involvement in some events
Yea that was the whole delay military action as a collective of the other bosses we fight under EoE I mentioned. But their issue was just the negative effects of pursuing that military action right? Not the Song Dynasty as a whole?
We don't know how much lil zhao was involved but a change of regime naturally gonna make some people unhappy, it is what it is
They are just not happy with song's policies and decisions that's all. Shimmer of the south just looked for who had beef with song dynasty most to manipulate them to advance his plans
For example murong yuan's adoptive father li jun literally rebelled even when big zhao's court welcomed him after the took over. Then shimmer and ember of the east just manipulated that to make her blow up the ship
I finally understood the game, this is what Where Winds Meet actually wanted us to learn:
In Qinghe:
The Cost of Peace. Through the Blissful Retreat, we learn that the safety we enjoy is often an illusion paid for by the silent sacrifices of others. We thought we were just living a simple life, only to realize that Aunt Han (the Water Lady) and Uncle Jiang were hiding their true identities to protect us. We learn that to truly stand for ourselves, we have to accept that our shelter was built on their secrets and blood. Eventually we must leave the nest because we cannot rely on them forever to face the danger for us.
In Kaifeng:
The Complexity of Justice. Leaving the village for the capital, we realize the world isn't simply Black and White. In the bustling streets of the Song Dynasty, we see immense wealth right next to desperate poverty. We learn that a Hero does not necessarily mean they are good, and a Villain might actually have a noble cause. We learn that simply defeating a bad guy does not fix the rotting system. The real lesson is having the intelligence to see past the labels of Good and Evil instead of just swinging a sword blindly.
I wish i had an epiphany like this in school
mc still has more to know but was pretty much swept into this since we wanted info about aunt han, what we see now is only the surface so we never know
It's never too late
I wish you stop regretting.
Big zhao and little zhao r on the same side in my theory
Lord Shi is a powerful god, therefore they cannot kill him without making chaos in the court
This is when the mc come and little zhao pretends to side w lord shi while big zhao disguises as a common man
This allows them to have lord shi removed without directly involving the zhao brothers
Makes sense?
Be in the CN cutscenes little zhao seems to be friendly w the mc
i can see your point too because off their identities they have to make decisions carefully, and also by disguising they could see first hand of what's going on with the folks
and probably he's also letting little zhao have some training with politics
Lil Zhao is literally the person who thought of thang tang coins confiscation policy, there is no pretending. You can hear him talk with Zhao Pu, with Zhao Pu having doubts over his policy that it's too harsh but he's like it's for the best
The real lord shi is dead, and the fake lord one is just someone who aureate pavillion planted in to create more chaos
They dont know Shi is the shadow treasurer of Weiyang. THey just assume its the same Shi, but with a harsher stance on the Tang coins due to the danger it poses to the Song state.
Little Zhao is much more ruthless and is more pliable to be manipulated, and the shadow treasurer uses that against him
||Wrong, little zhao is breedable||
They all had an underlying disdain for the court before, but then Shimmer and Ember came in and capitalized on it (&some vulnerable mental states)
Some real good Foreign adversaries work😂
Lord Shi is no god, more of a cult leader, but your point stands otherwise

there are more nuances/smaller morals or lessons hidden in side quests, but this is a good summary of the main story and what it tells
I look forward to how you'll summarize Hexi haha 👀
I hear that Hexi might be hard for global players to understand
hexi = sand
its much more than sand hahaha, sand is only the first "section" of Hexi that opens up
I think I said this or something similar to this
It's a more abstract chapter of the story
I saw a comment in chinese on youtube saying so
yeah I wouldn't be surprised
Hexi is very like... "broken pieces" - story is given in a bunch of non-personal (to the MC) mini plots and at the finale the significance is revealed
similar to one leaf one life quest but bigger I guess
How do Wang Qing knows Li Zuo? They play go together in one of the dungeon
I don't understand why we can go to another people's dream, the one that paint in cave
think of it as more immersive story telling hahaha
Is this why bosses in hexi look kinda high fantasy, because it's only a dream/memory
yupyup
devs just wanna do dark soul like bosses so they coem up with an excuse huh
what happened to the big brother that taught us archery in the first quest
he got so obessed with archery he sold all of his clothings... i haven't done the quests that continues it but hope we see him near mohist hill
Err... what a stark difference from the start
He looks like a different person
his curiosity slowly turned into obession... now he's like this T0T
Mohist hill is so far away sadge
big bro will be going through lots of trouble to get there i guess...
isnt he already in mohist sect when we meet him again in lu and mo debate
Like a young master and his servant 😂
But physically traveling there is going to be hard
Can we bring out the flying bird thingy to outside world? Not just mohist hill
Im curious but is WWM one of the top games in CN right now?
oh thank god he got to the sect
i'm intrigued to know about that as well cause i heard it did got quite the tropies in taptapgames awards
definitely
its like top 10-20 usually i think
for pc games overall
hmm, I thought it was top 10 at least
above it are ones mostly from other genres (league, naraka, valorant etc) aside from older legacy MMORPGs games like wow/poe
and genshin
genshin's still top???
Surprisingly, yes
that's quite the shocker. was a player when the first region came out while maining kaeya and lisa. the artifect system, the currency farming, and how some utilites are locked behind characters' constellation i left. wonder why people still play? sunk cost fallacy?
Sunk cost + continuous stimulation in form of content & character injections from devs + some people are genuinely invested + each update brings a little bit of new players, keeping the numbers up
hmm... i haven't been on genshin internet side so this definitely helped make things clear. i suppose genshin will still stay alive even when other games are getting more and more better and genshin still stuck in same place.
Anyone can explain how Beard Guang died? He's one of the survivors, is clearly saved by the player during the fire, and is seen escaping the Illusion Formation with the other survivors right before Ruby is shot down by Qianye. If he truly died off-screen, how did he die? He's clearly a well-known trading caravan boss, so, his death should have a bigger impact, possibly affecting the whole Qinghe. But, why is it only Tang Bao that mourns his death post-fire? Why are there no further consequences? Bruh, what a broken narrative. 🤦🏻
He just side character what u expecting? A whole chain quest line?
A little bit of flavour is good enough. If they have to flesh out every side char game will be 200 tb
Just a side character, but has more screen time than a mere "side character" during MQ's plot? Duh... 👀
Bro's just a nobody merchant
I'm afraid you fell for kids' excitement. Both Ruby and YM kinda overestimate the importance of the caravan, as it's jianghu equivalent of ice-cream truck
Yeah, overestimating the caravan's importance while mentioning Beard Guang's name in most chatable NPCs in Qinghe still affects their responses in a region called Qinghe where NPCs live in various village-sized settlements, has a considerable distance between each settlement, and weirdly enough to has the concept of economy plus the needs of money. 🤷🏻
Yeah. A nobody merchant but has a close ties with Ruby and the player plus has more screen time in MQ's plot than a mere "nobody". 🤦🏻
I mean, Beard Guang probably feels important immediately out of Ch1, but then you get into Ch2 and everyone's general/prefect/minister/head of sect/etc and you explore Qinghe to find out about Tian Ying and generals & legendary heroes, and some head of caravan really becomes unimportant nobody. Let's give them some time to run into more people
Old jin is more relevant than him
To everyone's surprise
Final boss of pawn tactics
also Stockholm syndrome
Whether he is important or not, is not for the players to decide, but the game. The game's narrative flags him multiple times, duh... 😏
Multiple times in like first 3h, if you're going slow, of 300+h of game
Tbh people just dropping dead during a key historical time of turbulence and transition between major factional struggles is a major theme of this period piece. Better get used to it now 😩
Also smoke inhalation is no joke, especially for an old man
YM can walk away, but Bearded Guang caught a lungful or two of that 🔥🔥🔥
Once the game gives a character a name, gives them recurring screen time, ties NPC dialogue responses to them, it has entered a contract with the player.
The contract is:
“This character matters at least to the extent that their state changes are meaningful.”
Breaking that contract = broken narrative.
Besides, making the lore more coherent does not truly require high technical skill or higher game's size.
The contract is written by rats
Or Candy Lady, pick your favorite
Dang NMW at it again
Sure, whatever.
Later chapters having bigger figures doesn’t erase earlier narrative commitments.
The game flagged Beard Guang as socially real and causally relevant.
Once that flag is raised, the story owes him consistency — not amnesia. 🤷🏻
Sure, everyone is entitled to opinions. Not everyone is gonna agree with the same opinion
still on this.. maybe we should name a hill after beard guang
Any info on mistveil city? The devs were like, The red lady this is HER storyyy etc etc, Ive gotten all chests, talked to the downed people, reached the end and literally the red lady is just standing there with a beast man and two other randos DX
What im getting is Kaifeng was built on another city and this place was flooded. What does the red lady have to do with it? XD
idk probably nothing
replaying the story is interesting 2nd time round. u notice and appreciate things that weren't noticable first time round
lore lovers recommend to play through again if u have time to spare
Maybe when I feel like playing legend
i play expert only. puppeteer took me like 20min to clear
Misleading translation! Mistveil dungeon and prison get their name from bring in mistveil forest.
Mistveil city and Mistveil forest get their name from Chinese translation – both use a common way to phrase "[location] covered in fog/mist"
?? but what does that have to do with the red lady?
You ok dude? lol If nothing then why reply to the question with something random XD
Which vid/channel clearly explains the lore? Im intrigued to know
helps YM got martial arts and Qi control,so his Body is fit + he's supernaturally enhanced
has their been an speculation in regards to what is mistveil city prison lore or story or implications?
or cascading water ruins
or did we just went into underworld lol
I mean, the mistveil city git nothing to do with the Ghost Bride (red lady) and it's extra frustrating bc the transaction would lead you to think there's something
I honestly thought mistveil city is a dark reflection of the destroyed chang'an
chinese ghost myth and such
it is, especially as they keep hyping her up
Like all she is doing is standing at the end and you cant interact with her. Why is she advertised here?
You can search in the chat, but someone mentioned earlier that irl Kaifeng was built on top of previous cities, so there is a chance it was used for in-game Kaifeng
The Ghost bride is extra-popular trope in china/Chinese stories and refers to popular in-game Ghost master, they're riding a wave
also, what does the resentment debuff do to you? I stepped on water and it
I immediately jumped away and I don't want to know
so it very much feels like they just said. "lets hype up ghost bride and for a random reason just stick her model at the end of the dungeon for funs" lol
hello where can I find cheng hong after doing mistveil city?
agreeing with this and since ghost bride is a very common concept so why not make a ghost master
hi wanna ask can we replay top 10 scams?
On future I think. But the encounter that doesn't have a quest bar. I don't think you can play it for ex: the celestial seize on nmw character
i was referring to the entrapment and fart scam for eg
Yah just press on the quest and press the restart button
future u mean the CN server allows replay?
the thing is i dont find those in the chapter
so its under encounter?
Replay system is already available twin.
Just find the title of the quest and you can replay it
I know , but for this particular top 10 scams is not inside the quest or any encounter etc for me to replay(or at least i cant find the quest name at all)
The fart one is under encounter I think. Just read the description or see how far the quest is to filter and find the exact one
is the entrapment there as well? cos i legit dont remember seeing fart scam
whats the name of the quest i try find it again
fake Chengshi" quest or something. I don't really remember
Just read the description of each. I think you'll find it eventually
oh ok thanks i try to find again 😅
I think it's part of injustice quest
its also an ode to how war torn it is — basically there were 3 cities (i forget in total or not including kaifeng) that exist there, each built on top of the ruins of the other
Oh yeah lol mb. I thought it was an encounter, cause when I saw the hat I immediately thought it was an encounter
so cannot replay?
I think we can replay them, since there are failed injustice quest
Who is she on lore ?
qianye
I forgot what connection she shares with aunt Han
the last lost chapter in Kaiffeng explain it a lot.
Oh I haven't completed that quest yet
So I won't spoil it. But basically it tells about aunt Han's past.
btw, anyone know what ||Shimmer of South said in the ending cutscene of Kaifeng? The one when we open the room in Velvet Shade and reclaim the wine. I use Chinese dub that there no sub in that scene||.
Sthing about meeting the MC again in jiangnan
Why there 2 wolf maiden arena?
In qinghe and kaifeng
it's the same.
there's a qinghe area that looks similar to the kaifeng one, but isn't the same one, if you're talking about a particular side quest..
If you're talking about the side quest in qinghe where you drank the alcohol though, you end up in the kaifeng one because they tried to traffick you there
Not revealed yet
But why kidnap me just to put me in arena?
they originally wanted to bring you somewhere else, but I think they were attacked or something (I don't recall) and you ended up being tossed as baggage in there lol
Kaifeng is built on top of city ruins. I think the tablet at the end of mist veil city says something to that end
Cities in that region rising and falling for centuries and the dungeon is going through layers of each all the way back to Wei 600 years prior
it's built on top of 2 other cities iirc
Wei state > Qin dynasty > bei wei dynasty then sui-tang-song dynasty
Not sure kaifeng was rebuilt on tang or after tang
If the stupid greedy eunuch didn’t sabotage the new Qin emperor after Qin Shi Huang death, Kaifeng will not have multiple city layers

you're talking about the one who sold the 16 prefectures of yanyun?
No, way earlier. About 700 BC between
Basically before Liu Bang comes.
can someone explain to me what exactly is yanyun

and is ghost market like, a physical place?
on earth
or some mystical land thing
for those who thought he's the main character when this game was announced lol
Yanyun is current beijing area
~210BC
16 prefectures, yan = youzhou (beijing area), yun = yunzhou (datong area iirc)
Thank you for the calculator result. I am not sure why christ was involved but ok
simplest way to explain is it's where the Great Wall is, a previous emperor (Gaozu of Jin) gave the Khitans control of all their defenses in exchange for helping him seize power, as soon as he died and his heir took over, the Khitans invaded defenseless Jin
pink area basically
very important for keeping Khitan out though, plus Beijing-aka-Nanjing is there
Nanjing?
not called Beijing yet
Isnt nanjing different though
You're might be mistaking it for ming's first capital
zhu yuan zhang 1st ming capital was nanjing, then he moved capital to beijing
different Nanjing, the Khitan Nanjing became Beijing, modern Nanjing is in Southern Tang
Im not sure, nanjing has always been 1 city, the one in the south
to the Khitan it's their southern capital, to the Han it's in the north
Did a quick google and it said liao empire's capital was shangjing though
But they do call beijing nanjing
Interesting
spoiler free official art from cn
😢
How would the Nine Mortals Way react to one of their trying to achieving enlightenment and become a Bodhisattva or Buddha?
it may seem confusing and it often is. nanjing because nan means south and to the Jurchens, that's in the south of their realm.
I don't think the Khitans ever officially named Beijing as Nanjing though
It was the Jurchens who did it
Liao's nanjing is current beijing
New york is a pretty small area too
sigh.. this tree.....
Hongxian (Ruby) is the only character in the entire game that moved me the most
It's strategic region for northern defense and traditionally part of Chinese territories since the western zhou times
You can't judge territories just by their size
It's a vital gate. if you look at the topography you will understand.
You judge them by strategic positioning and trade routes.
Natural resources, population size, etc etc
And many of the prefectures in the Yanyun area actually were well populated and had good fertile lands too.
and the Khitans did manage to assimilate part of the population over time.
More importantly farming land too. Gotta have the rice paddies growing.
Not much rice growing in the north but you got the point
This is for HEXI. This moved me more than Ruby's death
Make 大唐 great again
😢
what a tragedy
Yea. They mostly grow wheat, but rice is more of staple food in China proper.
MDTGA
This is for Hutuo. We should finally unlock Zhongdu Bridge this week iirc
Didn't get to see du chongwei in the new drama yet
I haven't watched it yet. 4 episodes so far right?
Im at 12 lol bought vip
I see so many tears, blood, and sweat + spirit from the gameplay
Unfortunately, there are too many people like Du Chongwei ....
oh wait. youtube?
Why there are 2 of us??
I heard from a friend that there was a scene in epi 1 of the army eating human meat (the infamous two-legged lambs rations) .. that got censored from youtube
Can't wait to see more about zhongdu bridge since it isn't finished
Yeah
Wait until we get someone like Qin Hui...
idk how censored by youtube the series was...
youtube censors a lot recently
Look who im hanging out with 💖 👯
MASSIVE SPOILER DO NOT OPEN IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE SPOILED. You've been warned.
I watched on iqiyi at first lol so not sure bout that. Might need to switch back if that's gonna be the case...
I can't be sure too. Might want to ask around if there are any differences.
Qin hui aint that bad when you see someone making humans into rations
Armies eating humans... apparently nothing new throughout history...
An Lushan rebellin be like
when you run out of grain, you butcher the warhorses too... and then.... when you run out of that...
anything to keep the army together.. :/
Yuan Shu and Yuan Shao can tell you a thing or two about the insaneness of holding a huge army together.. lol
At least he wasn't Zhang Han who surrendered his Qin army of 200,000 thousand strong men to be buried alive, because they wasn't enough food to feed all of them as prisoners of war.
||unleash taichi on him||
uncle tian
oh bro fr.
from 安西军何在 to ||passing of the peach|| so good
sorry i really cant find the reverse quest (i even went to compendium), i think i found all the way , its not all 10 scams can replayed (only 5)
Sooo, is anyone here who joined Well of Heaven and saw that entry in the sect's Legacy about Wang Qing being the 21st generation leader? Can someone please take a screenshot of it and let me know i did not hallucinate that entry? I left WoH after reading it (rpg-ing to the max) and found out only later on it disappears. 😂
Guys whats the story with the cascading water ruins. Something about Juyin people (?), the Qin, and the Wei?
What
Wang qing the headless general?
Yes that Wang Qing as in the same General Wang Qing whose statue is in the generals shrine, and who was also the leader of the Northern Vow lmao
I am literally considering to rejoin WoH just to see that entry in the Legacy tab and take a screenshot of it lmao
I tried to google it and see if anyone has taken a screenshot or something but NADA it pisses me off that i missed taking a screenshot of it because now that I left WoH, its gone 😂
His entry in the legacy tab also is the missing context as to why in the current leader's description, the sect was in crisis and the 20th leader needed to bypass tradition to have a new sect leader. THE SECT WAS IN CRISIS BECAUSE WANG QING THE SECT LEADER FOUGHT BACK THE INVADERS, EFFECTIVELY DISOBEYING SECT RULE AND THEN DIED, WOH WAS LEADERLESS LMAO
And yeah I left WoH for Wang Qing when i read that entry lol
this? lol
PERFECT I LOVE YOU HAHHAA I AM NOT MAD AFTER ALL
small spoiler || but Wang Qing took a lot of WoH with him to the battle of Zhongdu bridge, so him losing and dying there also resulted in the loss of a lot of WoH sect disciples. One of the sect seniors arrived too late to Zhongdu bridge to help, but when she saw how the sect members’ bodies were basically massacred/put on display as a warning, she went crazy and founded the heng dao martial arts style we will eventually play with||
I remembered there was the part where he got betrayed right
yeah
Sorry i just had a funny thought, they probably realized a tank needs a sword HAHAHA
Is this this one?
Is this Li Zuo and us???👀
Wish you can put gameplay video here 🥺
nope, its part of the heng dao haha
Is it not in-game yet? This is the closest description I can find among available weapons. Or is it just not playable, "just" mentioned somewhere?
I believe we held the heng dao during the shimmer of south's quest, i noticed my weapon icon looked different during that segment or what i like to call playable cutscene 😂
But its not "obtainable" yet
I see, thank you
Now that i think about it, i kinda love and hate the devs for "deleting" that Wang Qing entry in the WoH history because (1) it makes sense lore wise that a sect leader who went against the sect and then left would be information made privy to sect disciples only (2) it felt like i went through (kinda) the same emotions of those WoH disciples who followed Wang Qing to battle the khitans, even if its against sect belief/rule. If saving defenseless commoners from invaders means aligning with the state and going against the sect, i will do it too lol i just left WoH because of it. It felt absurd for a sect who claims to look out for the needy to turn a blindeye to people actually dying due to the invasion. Sorry i just felt so strongly about this Wang Qing lore in WoH 😂
hengdao is a straight sabre
In Game Model
heng dao is temu vergil
And what did the state do after repelling the Khitans?
Oh right, time for infighting amongst chinese people to see who is gonna unify China.
Sure repelling the invasion and saving common people is one thing, but there's a reason the rule exists not to turn a blind eye to suffering, but to prevent their members from serving the state
how it looks like sheathed
I get why that rule exists, i do. But everything isnt black and white, and rules need to be flexible to truly serve its purpose imo. Like for that instance with Wang Qing, his reasons could be coming from the right place and the sect could have placed a temporary exception to the rule to somewhat help defend the people dying AND THEN withdraw once its fine. Just my opinion
My point is helping the people during the invasion should not automatically mean aligning with the state or betraying the sect
Also i did not say that rule exists to turn a blindye to the suffering of the common people. They let the rule make them turn a blindeye. I believe there is a way to help the people while also maintaining independence from the state and obeying the sect rule. Hey this is fiction, so it should be possible lmao
Lastly, you sound confrontational. You dont need to be. It's just a nobody throwing their thoughts about a game they like 🙂
my time to shine

white hair emperor? i think at cn it was revealed that ym's faster was a soldier from the bridge battle
take it with a grain of salt tho
Just completed now , still not clear we need more details
What ur not clear about?
About aunt Han like why did she abonded mc
Cause aureate pavillion is hunting her
Greetings Lore Chat! I wish to be a regular here with you all!
Now. I want someone to give me an essay on Rong Yuan/Murong Yuan's entire lore, including spoilers.
After reading Er Mao's diaries, MB looks more and more like this (+swords allowed)
Who's Er Mao? I forgot who that was
A NMW disciple that was passed around tried to scam members of all sects and took notes on them
He sits just above where you meet Nimble
You can take/steal his diaries and read them
I'm too lazy to read the lore in-game and want someone to compile the entire lore into a 10+ page essay or a book.
Do you have that in essay form?
No
Damn
How about in book form?
To whomever is reading this message,
I hope someone or any one of you is willing to sacrifice their time to compile the entire lore of WWM. Whether it be in essay form or novel form, it doesn't matter. For I am too lazy to unlock every lore in-game.
I pray, to you who is willing to do the bidding, good health.
For now you can scroll through #📺media there are a few lore videos about certain plots there!
I'm not into watching lore videos that much since I forget easily. Hence why I want it in an essay or novel form. I prefer reading.
Fair
There's already a full Compendium and Journal for in-game reading
I haven't unlocked much of the Compendium and Journals cause I'm too lazy to grind them
Need to lock in bro
What a picky turtle.
- Someone already did all the work and compiled it? I don't do videos
- It was already discussed by multiple people? I'd like an essay, not discussion
- there's a section of the game that rewards exploration by compiling the results into easy to read texts? I'm not grinding
WWM has souls-like logic of "lore is a reward for the curious" when it comes to anything past surface-level
He isnt called the beggar for nothing
There's too many things going on in the game I don't even know where to start. Hence why I'm begging for someone to make an essay.
How unfortunate that he run into oh-so-evil us
Rather than an essay, we need a fanfic between murong yuand and MC
Best advice is to pick a character you find interesting, 100% their journal entry and related area, and see where threads of their lore lead you to explore next
I am a beggar to the core. Everyone hates beggars so I get bullied a lot.
Unraveling the story is a built-in part of the experience
Thankfully there are a small percentage of people who support me for the sake of authentic roleplay. Though not much, but still a good sum of people.
I'm more interested in Murong Yuan, just don't know where to start reading
If only there was a compilation of info on her in-game....
taps the sign
Also, are the books and papers we read from the floor get archived or do we have to go back to where they were located
Compendium -> poetry and tales
If can't find there, check bag->quest items (you need to manually archive some)
If not there, check dark surge
How about the books that you can't grab into your bag, do they also get archived into the Compendium?
Some do, some you can return to at the location, some get condensed into dark surge (looking at some Tian Ying lore rn)
Rule of thumb, check Compendium and see if it's there or if you need to bend over backwards to get it
My brain not braining
||is the mcs family confirmed dead|| spoilers
Yes
Even the aunt?
uncle and aunt are both alive
Blood family - yeah, adopted family (aunt Han, uncle Jiang, etc) - confirmed location unknown
Unless they want to go for some twists and turns and reveal the a certain someone is MC's relative
I finished the Zhang E dungeon. I'm so confused ||wtf he evil.
something about saving someone he shouldn't have||
and why is everyone|| sick. Fungus infection?||
Why is he evil – after the events you see in 12 years of feud, ||Zheng E was already in mentaly dark place. For a few years, he was stabilized by his teacher/adopted mother, but then she died and Heavenfall (location of his adopted family) went into famine, partly due to Court politics. Zheng E was reminded of his past trauma and spiraled HARD. With Ember&Shimmer's manipulation help and little to no actual mental health support, he got to the point we see him at the start of quest: self-isolating, cold, scheming, ruthless and with obsessive ideations focused on the granary and Shen Yilun.|| Considering that a conversation with Shen Yilun and a beating from YM pulled him out of his spiral, his mental health crisis was very preventable and is not indicative of his actual character.
The sickness is Dawn-to-Dusk blossom (white-blue flowers and roots you see all around, yeah, they're not flowers, these are tops of mushrums=fungus). It's an fungal infection artificially made by Sun Buqi. You can find out more about it by exploring Mistveil Forest, but Zheng E has unusually good control of the thing (and a lot of lung damage due to it. And his hairpiece is not some pretty glass/blue jade, the branches and leaves seem to be the work of fungus)
And the "snow" you see in his location and cutscenes isn't snow, it's actually spores of the fungus(pretty blue flowers). Inhaling spores would make anyone sick, don't do it!!!
Wait because I was in the dungeon, am I sick?
ty for the explanation
Game logic protects you, but if YM wasn't Main Character, he'd be sick with magic fungus tuberculosis
You can also talk with healer/SN NPCs around Hearwell Grove (or smth like that, village East of Kaifeng). Their clinic works on supporting and researching Dawn-to-Dusk victims
Ah thx 😊
I did a more detailed explanation of his timeliness here #📖lore-chat message if you're interested
Thx! We are introduced to so many things, and it's not all linear/ most are hinted so I get confused
I've been on Zheng E's case for some time now, so I'm happy to share! Some moments, like his work on Dawn-to-Dusk research team with Zhai Xu &shizuns are pretty hard to notice, but are very satisfying to put together
Still not sure where he got the Frostwing title, but we can't have everything I guess
Well in the dungeon some mobs have cold powers and he froze his sister... Idk where he got his frost powers.
Dawn-to-Dusk is cold-loving fungus, and as I said Zheng E has a strong affinity for it. The white weapons/branches he uses in the fight are all fungal growth/mycelium
I guess he does have a pretty distinct fighting style, so if you saw him on the battlefield near Zhu Yu, you'd know it's that frost boy
I feel almost bad for him but there's no excuses for what he's done. ||He basically starved people, right? Hid the grain? But why did he get the master of grain title at the end. Makes no sense to give it to the perpetrator

No! ||Shen Yilun (the og) tried to get military grain, stored in Granary, be approved for use to help starving villages. Big Zhao, thinking military action is most important, declines his proposal. That's where Zheng E attacks Shen Yilun and takes over! Zheng E doesn't do politics, he straight up changed ShYl-loyal guards of Granary for the people Murong Yuan provided and worked with NMW to create a secret passage so military grain can be smuggled out. There, some was picked up by Bloodscale Hall to deliver to famine-struck Heavenfall and some was sold on Ghost Market to commonfolk||
Bloodscale Hall being led by his adoptive sister, Feng Ruzhi
Oh wow. I completely missed all that.
It is very hidden, no wonder
Ah so he was gong up smuggle out the grain...
Lol tbh I just stepped into Kaifeng so some of stuff might be explained later 😆
Also MC is kinda emperor-pilled when he entered the Granary, so he sees Zheng E's scheming as evil, when he's being anti-emperor
I saw his aunt wrote a letter in the dungeon.
But later as you collect the story you see how Zheng E is very kind-hearted, even if he's rough around the corners (and, well, he was nagged on by Ember&Shimmer during mental health crisis, I'm not surprised)
Aunt han changed his face so he can fake being shen yilun
Ohhhhhhh....
This aunt is very mysterious. Shouldn't he be like why is my aunt here. Lol
I'm guessing they're fighting on opposite ends rn
I think YM did comment that briefly
I honestly think i guess I need to read this lore and connect the relationship tree. 😆
But if I remember correctly, it was Shimmer of South who brought A'Zheng to her
And it's all a part of their undercover spy games, yk
It's ember of the east
Ah, right
Two scheming besties
The way they came in and capitalized on local strong people upset by Big Zhao's policies must be in textbooks of this world
Real life shimmer is useless compared to the one in the story, devs buffed him hard
Someone got to hype up their fave from history book
I like how Big Zhao disguises himself as the commonfolk most of the time just blending in and enjoying Kaifeng while someone else is sitting on the throne as nothing but a puppet to the greater story.
I don't think there's a puppet, he's just going out in disguise in his off time
Isn't the dude in purple the one sitting as the "new" emperor instead of Big Zhao?
I thought that the dude in purple was a puppet emperor while Big Zhao is pulling the strings
He's prefect of Kaifeng, not emperor! Different position
That's his brother, at that point in history he's only a prefect
so why does Emperor Zhao disguise himself as peasant
Basically we see Mr.president going undercover to see if Minister of Washington is not doing anything shady while reporting "all good" in official communications
To check on the peasant's lives
Apparently emperor taizu aka big zhao has that habit in real history too
He is, hence zhao guangyi hates him
Zhao Guangyi? Is that his brother?
Zhao Guangyi aka Zhao Er aka lil' Zhao
So wait... Officially Zhao Guangyi is the prefect of Kaifeng, but since Big Zhao likes to play dress up, Zhao Guangyi has to pretend like he's the emperor while Big Zhao is having fun.
No, emperor is just unavailable when big Zhao is out adventuring
But plot of Kaifeng is about internal policy about coins, which is prefect's territory of decisions => he's the official present and dealing with the situation
Big Zhao has power to overwrite prefect's decisions, so he went on undercover investigation
An emperor doesnt have to be present all the time, court meetings arent everyday
I thought Zhao Guangyi was just playing the shadow of the Emperor while his identity remains hidden and only a few people know his real identity.
Shorthand for understanding:
Bright yellow clothes ("golden") = emperor
Bright purple = important official
Pale yellow = pretentious rich guy
What's funny is no one seems to know Big Zhao's real identity which got me thinking that not everyone knows what the Emperor actually looks like. Even Lord Shi.
Yeah, that's how it was in Ancient China. Emperor lived a pretty closed-off life in Imperial City, gauging the state of the world on reports from "on the ground" officials. Perceived as person closest to heavens, he was separated from the "dirts" of mundane world
At least some of the emperors that set the reputation did it
That explains why none of the Imperial Guards know of Big Zhao. Only his brother, Yingying and the Triplets.
Even Triplets only know his commoner persona, as sects, especially NMW, is not an official establishment and def not high enough to be anywhere near the emperor
And Yingying, I thing, only figured it out later on. After all, "this one is just a merchant"😂
(I mean, she likely had no access to the emperor => couldn't know how he looked until way later)
And master Pu if you remember who
Also, I missed this, but in the end Zheng E doesn't "get" the Master of Granary title, not legally. ||Shen Yilun might've called him True Master of Grain, but that's between the two of them.|| Zheng E is legally dead. Shen Yilun is legally alive, as Zheng E stole and kept up his identity. We have the privilege of knowing what happened, as YM can't help but get involved, but for an outsider – nothing changed, Shen Yilun is the Master of grain. In the post-sidequest later we just see ||Zheng E accept that this is now his life, breaking the character of Master of Grain would go against everything he worked for and do more harm than good||
is old jin really dead? he just ask me to invest on something then he go fight a bear and died
Oh right! Now he has to be good. I guess
Old Jin appeared in recent quest (the Mirage boat, about Wen Wuhen and his thief). Did the bear story appear after you did this quest?
He was good, before he spiraled, he just has to tune it down on swords and magic now that he's "a normal man"
he is just telling me to go check the dock and he got killed by the bear , idk about the thief quest, what i was doing before that was the woof woof quest
a lot of people knew about ym existence but don't know who exactly ym is, so we're often recognized either by mentioning aunt han/uncle jiang or by our martial arts
Does anyone know the story of the cascading water ruins? I tried to talk to some npcs in the swamp area. I got mentions of the Wei, Qin, and the Jiyun people (?). I was running around avoiding the rats lol.
Then its interesting that going to the swamp without the knot you are drowned by resentment of the people who died there. Then the praying shades were all facing that altar with dried up blood dripping from a large hanging body. The stone obelisk mention something about praying for the flood to cease?
There is also that tree some civilians of the ruins were worshipping. The hollow carving has the grass root but the description doesn't tell me much.
Then there's the matter of that beast at the top, at the peak with a ghost bride and a sleeping puppet. I'm guessing a war happened here but what is going on in there?
It's various cities that were built on the same spot over the centuries and fell to wars and disasters
plus their court time (not sure about the word in english but basically their working time) is pretty early, so he could come out after often around the evenings
Oohh how are they okay building on top of each other like that?
Well IRL they wouldn't be literal giant caves lol, it's the fantasy depiction of it, same with the giant sewers underneath Kaifeng
I was hoping the game explains that. I understand that there js fantasy but even then fantasy stories make sense. Like why are the cities built like that. What lead to the wars. What were they worshipping. Where did the flood come in. Etc. Etc.
They are historical wars, ex: Daliang was a Wei city destroyed by Qin at the end of the Warring States, Junyi was built on those ruins, etc
The deadly flooding is a natural feature of building around the Yellow River, as comes up in the villages around Kaifeng
Ooohhh okay got it. Maybe I'll just do my own research on that.
You can look up kaifeng ruins, they are still present
What's the weird animal like thing at the end of Mistveil City?
enemies in hexi region
But what is it? A person?
Bull or minotaur, i think these enemies will be at qingchuan iirc
Can someone spoil more about this? I'm dying of curiousity lol
actually he already appeared in the first ever cut scene ||yep lizhuo|| can't remember he's going to appear in which map but yeah this time you can stand beside him
So Basically the yellow river flooded the area multiple times, which resulted in there are two cities buried under the current Kaifeng City, which make the underground structure like a sandwich.
For anyone interested in WWM’s historical background but not sure where to start, check out this newly released TV drama “Swords Into Plowshares (太平年)”. It basically fills in the historical context of the 40 years leading up to WWM.
Roughly around Episode 5 is where the timeline lines up with the opening scene of the story—Uncle Jiang fleeing pursuit while carrying the main character.
The link is in the #media section
What with man in the box?
Its real story, everytime kaifeng have natural disaster, instead repair and rebuild the city, they make new city above it.
Archeology say it have more then 6 layer below
Its alistar
It’s not they don’t want to rebuild, is the fact Yellow river’s water is very thick
Like clam chowder
So it’s all cover by crazy amount of mud
We can assume first layer is ghost market, 2nd layer unbound cavern, other layer are mistveil city
Yep.
Goated drama
whoa thats so cool. So thats why theres multiple citizens there and the resentment of the shades
Kingdom of Wei was conquered by qinshihuang way back by flooding daliang (now kaifeng) as well
||basically he is there watching the battle in Hutuo. Previously we didn't know he was there at all. Why is he there watching the North? What is he looking at? What is he waiting for? Hutuo still isn't finished in CN. We still can't access the Mountains nor the Bridge. This week or next week we will probably be able to access it.||
Li zenzhen should be boss in future
There are more tragic hot Jiejie that will whoop you. Let Zhenzhen rest
tragic hot jiejie…..can i get some spoilers pls 👀
I think that would ruin your experience of their stories (which would be a shame) but I can provide you some images and gifs when I hop on my computer
That would be nice. A photo to look forward to.
I'll get back to you in a bit. I'll ping you
wow

Something I’ve been wondering is if there are going to be a 2nd tier to our already acquired martial arts mainly for the nameless sword because I feel like if you compare the movement we use for it vs how uncle jiang uses it there are some differences plus I’ve noticed that when your in the area to fight heartseaker for the first time if you choose to attack during the quest just before fighting the boss the sword moveset is different from any of them we have seen so it makes me wonder if there is maybe a different version of nameless sword that we don’t have yet
In the launch trailer too it showed the nameless sword but in the characters left hand they were holding the sheath of the sword in their hand that’s kind of my main basis on this theory though I could be wrong entirely
I am a golden swan in a dark world where everything is the same.
What
He meant you black wherever the darkness is with you
we don't talk about swans here... only geese allowed
I am dum i dont know what that means eitjer
No please dont post it again
Goose*
I am a golden goose in a dark world where everything is the same.
Broo whwt did i doooo
Everything is the same in the dark world because it's dark bruh lol no light so you can't tell what anything is
I like that
swans matter too... (don't strike me goose overlord)
If swans and geese were so different, why would they both quack to my honk?
Basic fundementals.
geese and swans don't really quack, unfortunately...
you're probably a goose.. if you honk at them..
Ducks
Beijing Roast Duck.... mmmmm yummy
My goodness...
Do any of yall keep wearing the mask after blissful retreat?
rumours have it that Khitans, and later the Jurchens, didn't want to leave Yanyun because of this... Mongols wept when they were overthrown by the Ming... because they lost their ducks forever..
rumours.. of course..
took it off right away...
Is it really that bad? Like I understand the significance of it but also a lot of people recognize you anyways so I guess it doesn’t really have a point to it?
yea it doesn't really make sense ... but .. well.. they need to show that the mc is kinda leaving for good.. or maybe for a long time.. and didn't want people recognizing..
I made a fit around it just for Qinghe but it's not a great mask, the new one from Mistveil City is way better for the same idea
Isn’t the one from mistveil city an aureatte pavilion mask?
if anybody walks around with a mask during those times... i'm pretty sure they will get reported real quick.. hahaha.. but i mean.. yea.. it's a game
well actually they probably won't get reported...
they would be mistaken for being a performer.. artisan sort of...
I mean I guess I can wear it for Qinghe but I think my main gripe about it is finding a good hairstyle to pair it with
roasted goose is good too XD
I tried hard not to say that... to not risk incurring the wrath of the goose overlord...
being such a tiny mask means you can wear it with a hat, like the sectless one
I want to see somebody go back in time to the Five Dynasties Ten Kingdoms period, with a smartphone, and start recording the discussions the people have about fashion... talking about what is good to wear... etc.
True though I think it would’ve been cooler if instead of a simple little face mask we maybe did something similar to the man in black at the beginning of the game if you want to hide your identity that makes much more sense but it would probably raise suspicion when your in Kaifeng
I truly believe that humans aren't that different from era to era... hmm... in some fundamental way... obviously we would have been very different culturally... but food... fashion.. etc.. hmm
haha wearing a mask in Kaifeng is fine if you're a performer on a stage.. but on the streets and especially if you are strolling near to the government bureaus... oh man..
i mean, in real life.. i think.. but in the game you can obviously flaunt your nine tails in front of the imperial guard and no one would bat an eyelid
really want some for dinner right now.. the craving is real
Yeah lol I’ve found that pairing the mask with the taming storms outfit and a slightly different hairstyle looks better I’m not really big on the flashy fashion stuff I just wanna look like a wandering swordsman
lore-friendly fashion.. nice
I’ve also noticed that certain npc’s have the same scar on the left side of their face like the one we have and I wonder if that’s just a facedata thing or maybe a potential bug
It kinda ruins the immersion a little bit if you see someone else that kind of looks like you with the same scar on their face
I’m trying to keep my character lore friendly
I just choose to believe that it's a mark left on the puny humans by the goose overlord... when they are asleep...
mothers give infants to the goose overlord for branding... to bless them for life
me too... .. until i accidentally drew a cloak that seems to be constantly burning.... and it looks cool... so...
Nameless sword and spear build the only things I really customize are my mystic skills and debate on what lightness skill my character would use I’m thinking it’s either meteor flight or thousand mile flight
The strive for peace cloak looks really good with taming storms outfit
That’s the outfit with the armor and eyepatch
I would boot up my game but I’ve got work to go to
you have successfully made me boot up my game...
@tulip spoke it's called "strive for peace"?
oh i see it "strife for peace" outfit
yea it is very nice.. quite subtle.. not flashy
I like the strife for peace outfit.. but only the top part.. the bottom half doesn't make sense to me..
the temptation of good food is impeccable
Yeee
all that nicely packed medicine just getting soaked in the rain.... :/
Can you give me lore on why its so red?
i'm pretty sure its because of the lighting that makes it look redder than it seems, the skin is usually glossed during the making
crispy duck skin... is the best..
I have alerted my local goose about your activities
geese don't concern themselves with the discriminatory acts against ducks..
so it's all good.
Wrong bird gang 😭✌️
MC really popular with jiejies
I feel like the nameless sword martial art isn’t at its final form yet
It would be cool if could move like uncle jiang in the boss fight with him
Infinite sword waves
It's only natural that 16y/o YM doesn't have the full grasp on the swordsmanship style that belongs on the battlefield. It'd be cool to see their skill "mature" over time and get closer to uncle's style, or get some of their own "seasoning" as they adapt to challenges life throws at them🤔
They use beet
Or food colouring the same as roasted pork neck
this chat makes me hungry.. and i'm okay with that..
beijing roasted duck is so overprice. it's like 50$ for a single duck.
I can get a normal roasted duck for 10$, plus young bamboo soup.
Here i buy roasted duck kampung style for $9 per kg
Cheap cheap
really can't wait for these to come out I already saved a lore video of the jijie at the right bc i dont wanna spoil myself yet
all of them hit like a truck
Relax. AI is here and we can wait for robots to be our husband/wife (unlimited btw)
and spoil each of you / us with free fancy fashion /skin 😹
Is this wolf maiden part 2?😭
Is murong yuan still alive
Yesss like there’s this one move I’ve seen uncle jiang do where he dodges and slashes in a circle and hits us and it looks so cool
no
yes
when you play as Jiang he uses the same Nameless Sword Martial Arts as the one the MC uses
Hi
I know but I’m talking about the boss fight with him in the dreamscape of blissful retreat
yeah no, that was just a boss. The Nameless Martial arts the MC uses is the same one Jiang uses thats the whole point of people recognising who the MC is by their Martial Arts
because its blatantly obvious
nihao
Where ill found her
Masterwood Hamlet mission, talk to Brother Feng
Encounter quests ?
Wandering tales – Lu and Mo debate
Alright
Yo how did you guys trigger the encounter in the dock that you need to jump to the water at YOU time?
Mine does not work everytime I jump
in where wind meet video game. they(story) mentioning people have different accents from different region. i wonder do in original Chinese language they literally speak different accents or they just speak same accents but mentioning different accents
if you switch to Chinese audio, some of the characters do speak with regional accents
nice
but most of them seem to have the standard mandarin chinese accent.. some variations though... there are some with clear north-eastern accents
ooo
i also do remember the regional accent lesson from big zhao in one of the encounters in kaifeng
is it the same for that encounter quest too?
I haven't done it yet. lol
oh sure lmk your opinion when you encounter it tho no rush
can't wait to do it. i'm taking my time to explore and try to get as close to 100% as possible, starting with Qinghe.
but i'm lazy so it takes forever haha
as someone who gets distracted from exploration even when i track quests i feel ya
Kaifeng has diff accents too
the widow has a diff accent and the granny as well
WoH has typical north eastern accent
ive also heard some western accent (relative to within china, so similar to chongqing/chengdu accent) in game among some npcs iirc
and ofc the khitans (that one businessman in game for example) has an accent too, but i forget what it sounds like now
You need to jump from the bridge near the martial temple wayfarer, set it to you hour, and swim (don't use wallstride) to the mirror pond boundary stone
Go to the bridge first and set it to you hour first and then jump to the river
I didn't get that thing🤣 thankfully there is signpost nearby telling me the answer🤣

The guy who gave Yanyun's 16 prefectures (The Chinese name of WWM is "The 16 Sounds of Yanyun") to the Khitans in exchange for their military aid against Later Tang, the notorious Shi Jingtang (石敬瑭), Founder and Emperor of Later Jin
Is the live action tv series based on wwm?
No. Definitely not.
But WWM is set in the same historical period as this series.
With many characters in WWM featured in the series, such as Big Zhao, Chai Rong
Shi Jingtang himself was mentioned a few times in WWM.
If i'm not wrong, the battle of Zhongdu Bridge, where Wang Qing sacrified himself, would be in this series too.
The battle where our MC would be found as a baby by Jiang Yan.. in wwm
Little Zhao should also be in this series.
Pretty sure General Shi Shouxin will be in it too..
As well as the Shimmer of the South...
Too bad Li Zuo would not be in it... because he would have been dead by then..
Is he pretty
lol I doubt it... this series is pretty low on the fantasy
but he probably won't be ugly
I haven't seen him in the series yet.. i'm on episode 1 lol
what series is this from?? i'm in the mood to watch cdramas or shows recently so maybe i'd give this a shot since they're from the same hisotrical period as wwm XD
Only a few minutes in and Zhang Yanze, this guy, the military commisioner of Zhangyi Army.. is authorizing the slaughter of civilians (and use their flesh as meat) who can't afford to provide food for the army..
This is set in almost exactly the same period, with many characters that we know.
The series is called 太平年, which when directly translated to English means Peaceful Year, but.. the English title, is Swords into Plowshares
It's on YouTube
that's awesome that it is easily accessible! thanks for sharing!! :D
You're welcome. I hope you enjoy it!
i just heard we do meet zheng e again in the future story, how long would it take and what region if anyone remember? he doesn't play that much important role anymore is that?
where can i watch this?
i'm itching for a historical cdrama..
youtube. search for Swords into Plowshares
nvm i backread
thank God for them uploading to youtube.. i hate going to ad infested sites
To me, YouTube is one of those sites hahaha
Song dynasty is boring, tang dynasty is when china is at its peak
Its either Hexi or Bujianshan
The news about it are very very little
Well yeah but some kind of cool new flashy moveset upgrade would be sick as hell
You fight him as a boss
Lv96 10man raid boss
yup I do got a preview of the raid where we need competent healers to survive and win the raid but i mean more like story content
No
Not alot of recurring characters
There's Ying ying, little Zhao, brother Feng and Qianye on top of my mind
Oh I remember uncle Tian showing up
we progressed a bit then uncle tian is still in his disguise or we meet him as his boss form?
Still in his uncle form
He will show up very briefly
To introduce you to the private island you can build sh|t on
Just before you start rebuilding blissful retreat
bro this guy is always playing some bad side character. He's lowkey a really good actor though 😭 i like him
haha there are some familiar faces in the cast of this series, many of them are veteran actors.
like this guy. i'm pretty sure he acted as Sima Yi in the Three Kingdoms series.
Or this guy, who, if i'm not wrong, acted as Yong Chi in the Chu-Han Contention series
In this series, he is acting as the King of Wu Yue in the south, next to Southern Tang
This is during the Later Jin period.
Our Shimmer of the South in WWM is not ruler of Southern Tang yet
i wonder why shen hanying stop being leader even tho she is still alive and still keep ruling well of heaven.
wait a minute is that wang qing. uncle jiang adoptive father!!
yeah same wang qing
that quest with the couple was really cute although ngl I was fully expecting to open the door and seeing the girl hanging from the ceiling lol
bujianshan is a fairly new region too, the story is only at the start, I think hutuo comes first after hexi so we never know
Big sad spoilers open at your own risk:
||Wang Qing is shen han ying's best apprentice, tho wangqing left the sect after. In the zhongdu bridge war, 300 WOH disciples insisted in helping wang qing, hanying couldn't stop them as they minds were set. Wang Qing also knew the disciples' character so he sent a letter, stopping them from aiding him. However, what the disciples received instead was a fake letter, and the person imitated wang qing's writing. When hanying heard the news and rushed to the battle field what she saw was her 300 disciples getting wiped out. This is also connected to the unreleased martial arts of WOH.||
Who's "the person"
||unfortunately the person is unknown but the difference of the letters can be differentiated since the person's handwriting style is still visible despite imitating, and the real letter has wang qing's stamp on it, yet the woh disciples still decided to go because they knew it's true that wang qing is in trouble||
||those 300 WoH are the ones we saw in the new trailer right||
||yep, in the zhongdu bridge trailer||
||If only they were spartans instead, could have hold||
||Spartans held because they had SHIELDS!||
||and I guess knowing how to hold a formation instead of going off brawling each on their own helps too||
||tantamount to having your elven archers jump over a dwarven phalanx shield wall to attack the orcs||
||yeah it looked like a street fight, doesnt bode well when ur outnumbered||
||The unreleased martial art (its called 斩雪刀法, her hair turned white in a night signifying how devastated she was), the base was from hanying's father when he was practicing a martial art, yet he feels something was missing. After witnessing the lost of the disciples, she took up a blade everyday and eventually completed the martial art. This martial art focuses on attacks > defense, at boss execution it has the highest dmg according to what I saw. ||
||Mohist disciples got killed in the trailer too right, I read the comments and the old guy is an elder of mohist sect||
||yep, the mohist disciples also aided the battle, they lost disciples too but woh lost so much that i think they were on the verge of disbanding||
Our famous tian ying
he is
one of big zhao's sidekicks currently lmao
this actor is everywhere man
no battle of zhongdu bridge though sadly
What year exactly is the game set in right now? The start cutscene shows 926AD but I keep hearing people throw different numbers around, like Qinghe arc we're 16 but by the time we reach Kaifeng we're 19? Where did that come from?
Isnt it 962AD?
That's what I thought lol but I've seen some comments around (maybe reddit) saying the young master is 19 now... is that just bs or did I miss a 3 year flash forward?
You do realise how far to travel on foot between qinghe and kaifeng right
No way you take years though
I just realized I typed 926 instead of 962 LOL 🤦
Mc has a horse. And within the context of the story he has met chou yuehai and presumably learnt grand lightness skills
We should definitely be 16 and it's still 962AD since Big Zhao begins southern reunification in 963AD by conquering Jinnan and Wuping and it hasn't happened yet. (thanks Bilibili history video)
The game confirms which year the game starts in with the opening cutscene
It just doesn't specify how much time has passed during the main quest.
But it can be deduced with actual historical timelines as above
Wait, we already in song dynasty? 962 is already song???? HUH?
Nvm. 1 of the 5 dynasties. I forgot.
lol
wdym? Song began in 960AD when Big Zhao took the throne
I just finished watching the fall of tang dynasty 1 hr ago. Still fresh in my mind.
The spartans wouldn't have stood a chance in that scenario. The terrain simply wasn't the same as that at Thermopylae. Thermopylae was a unique scenario that shrunk the width of the battlespace to several meters at some places. Zhongdu Bridge was a bridge with more open terrain at both sides of the bridge. Khitans had mounted archers and lots of reinforcements that they historically poured to the bridgehead that Wang Qing secured. Wang Qing's men would be attacked from a wider angle too than at Thermopylae.
Spartans didn't just held because they had shields. The Persians had shields too. Also, they actually had more than a thousand men, including the 300 Spartans, who fought a rearguard action at Thermopylae. The terrain did the Spartans a HUGE favour. Discipline and professionalism and better equipment helps too. We can't say that Wang Qing didn't hold because they don't have shields. Historical evidence had shown that Chinese infantry had used shields for thousands of years, with a wide variety of designs. They got it down to a science by that point.
Movies, TV shows, and ill-informed storytellers distort the modern person's idea of how battles were fought in ancient times. WWM's world is guilty of this too. They would show you battles that resembles brawls where 1v1 skills matter more than group tactics, equipment and discipline.
Nope. Song is not one of the 5 Dynasties during the 5 Dynasties/10 Kingdoms period. The 5 Dynasties were Later Liang, Later Tang, Later Jin, Later Han, and Later Zhou. Song came after these.
Yeah exactly this ^ lol wasn't sure what they meant
Also I could be wrong but there isn't a precise year in for the very first appearance of paper money that I could find.
It’s easier for me to remember khitan instead.
In my mind, Wang Qing's men (and let's imagine WOH disciples were included too), would have charged the Khitans on the other side of the bridge, shocking them (Wang Qing was recorded to have used 2000 elite infantry; so most likely had better armour, shields, and weapons), and then secured their bridgehead with a shield wall, tight formation, and stayed together as best they can while blocking the hundreds of arrows shot their way by the Khitans (steppe archery..).
Apparently Wang Qing and his men held for almost a day.
So you can imagine it would not have been a brawl where people are all over the place... getting surrounded and flanked all the time.
Wang Qing would have kept his men tightly together.. guarding each other's flanks and rear..
While the Khitans, with their superior numbers, would be galloping and shooting arrows outside their formation, possibly whooping and taunting them.
Long live the Khitans
The tight and disciplined defense would have allowed Wang Qing's men to have held out as long as they did.
If they fought like they did in the WWM video irl? They would have been wiped out in minutes (in reality)
apparently they didn't live/last long 🙂
Wang Qing and his men didn't die well.. and wasn't afforded proper burial... the Khitans piled their corpses up into a mound.. (according to historical records 积其尸为京观). It was a horrible sight.
This act was meant to intimidate the Later Jin forces on the other side of the river
yeah don't think China has good cavalry at that point. infantry vs cavalry on open plains just doesn't sound like a good combo. I feel like being obsessed with getting better horses from the west (aka the whole ahh point for starting the silk road) seems to be a common theme with Chinese history to the point the collective trauma of 'we need better horses' is so embedded into the cultural identity that people are still obsessed with horses today 😆
Sometimes things can't be presented in the most truthful way so they would tend to soften things up, knowing that different groups of people are watching/playing but i totally agree with this
Chinese cavalry, during the Tang Dynasty, was probably first-rate, probably one of the best in the world. They had good funding from the state, and had access to the best horses in that region. All was good. And they could go toe-to-toe with steppe forces. Chinese cavalry wasn't bad. Steppe cavalry is just culturally better because they literally grew up with horses and every child is a potential cavalryman, plus they have access to cheap and good horses. So when Tang fell, the Five Dynasties was deprived of access to great horses, and didn't have the logistical system that maintained the elite Tang cavalry.
And you're right to point out that infantry is at a great disadvantage in open terrain when there's cavalry around..
Yea, absolutely. I understand why WWM did it the way they did. If everyone thinks battles are like that.. then everyone will portray it this way..
Besides, it serves the story well
The key point in that video was to show the bravery, sacrifice, and tragedy at the end. And the video conveyed that sufficiently.
But since some folks earlier started to attribute the failure to a lack of shields and 1v1 brawling, i feel we should point out that they didn't fail because of these factors lol (historically)
battles, especially wars are a whole scale than that there are even more factors and details that has to be considered
@hidden kelp if you're interested in these tactical aspects, you can see lots of evidence of how devastating cavalry can be in the Napoleonic battles. Both Napoleon and Wellington places great emphasis on cavalry being the decisive factor; infantry and artillery can win the battle but cavalry makes it decisive haha
exactly yea
I used to jokingly say to my friends during discussions of wuxia that if the mountain sects (like Wudang, Huashan, Emei) actually went to battle like the way they were described to have in those novels, they would have been clad in armour and carried shields lol
500 years seems good enough
To be fair, the Khitans didn't just simply vanish or went extinct or something. They kinda just melted into the genetic sea of Northern China and Mongolia, and various other places they wandered to, and ceased existing as a distinct genetic group today. They live on in the DNA ocean lol
Same goes for all dynasties
Dynasties? Dynasties and ethnicity are quite different entities though.
i suppose he's refering to the bloodline(?
Probably
Yea. Maybe one of you has Big Zhao's DNA in you... maybe like 0.0001% of it
starts randomly throwing chickens at people in an argument
that scene really made me crack up, especially knowing who big zhao is and hes casually throwng chickens and geese on the guards😭
500 years? Khitan Liao is 916-1125... my math ain't good but that's only ~200 years?
knowing who he is, it is not surprising that he would have the guts to throw chickens at soldiers in the imperial capital
chickens *and * geese
probably meant the ethnicity... idk..like as an ethnic group... but not 500 years.. maybe longer than that..
The "emperor mingling amongst the common folk under disguise" is a common trope in chinese storytelling lol
That is 大辽
i wonder if those soldiers know abt it😭
lol it's like a CEO disguising himself as an intern and going to one of his branch offices to observe his employees in action
What I mean is 契丹
if they knew they would be scrambling far far away .. keeping a wide berth... or kneeling and begging for mercy
If Big Zhao did it too often, the whole city would just be playing along.. like the Emperor's new clothes thing... just pretending to not recognize him hahahaha
the soldiers didn't seem to recognize him, at least not the foot soldiers. they are probably far enough down at the totem pole to not have seen the emperor close up in person but I was surprised the fake Lord Shi didn't seem to recognize him
or maybe he was just so distracted by Big Zhao's physique in Velvet Shade robes lmao
imagine when lil zhao first saw his brother in those robes
I would be mentally scarred for life if I ever saw my brother in those clothes....
Lil Zhao went through the 5 stages of grief in 3 miliseconds
even worse when he actually acts all cute and seductive..
it's so funny in hindsight
mass facepalm moment for the entire Song court..
luckily there's no such thing as social media and phones in the past😭
but there is the Eastern Herald! time to write an article
Kara khitai
Honestly, I want some more quests with Khitans or Kthitan bosses
you fight Khitans in Hutuo
their mounted units are annoying to AOE kill, but you have to hunt them down because theyre carrying the treasure chests lol
when will thet include liao capital
Hiya, long time no see! ^^
I finally moved forward with story, buried the ones who fell down during raid attack and finished some more quests in Qinghe while donning Ruby's bracelet and goose pouch (I'm not gonna take off the bracelet ever 😭).
"Voices in the Air" kinda pick my interest because I saw some references to the Deer Immortal there, is it Liu Quanyi who is guiding us to the top of Mang Mountain? Could voices of Master Void and Master Null belong to other Immortals? I'm curious of your opinions about this quest, it seems that Mang Mountain is real so also would appreciate if anyone familiar with it told if there were any local news about that place~
Imperial Palace Pre-DL is up
aaaaaa 962 vs 969
i already ask customer service about it
That's why I was confused about this date after introduction movie.
I told myself that date, shown on the screen, was a time when our MC was still a kid (bubble showed how Jiang Yan settled in Bamboo Abode, lived there as Jiang Wulang and trained us, we seemed like 10-year old child back then) and time moved on, so like 6 years later - ca. 968 CE we visited his abandoned hut in hopes he might come back after over 3 years of absence... but tbh whole timeline is messed up with what Gu Le and other important NPCs mention about events that happened either 10 or 16 years ago
yeah that the thing the date 962 is showing at mc childhood then she grow up quickly. which would make sense if she now a 16/17 at 969 which make mc age at 962 childhood around 9 year old.
this date 969 make sense if at mc childhood is really at 962. but if now is 962 that mean the game intro put a date at abit of wrong time because that time she is child
dev do something!!!
It looked to me like uncle Jiang entered Bamboo Grove in 962 and settled in.
I dont think we are ever seeing beijing
i just found nine mortal way. this guy name yuan chengsi. he impersonates fang chengsi(well of heaven disciples) you know nine mortal way type thing. hahaha
Oh, it's part of encounter in Witherwilds ^^
Havent done that encounter quest yet, but liu qingyi was known as deer immortal I think
Do you have to speak Chinese to understand the lore?
I had issues to start this encounter but when I entered Flower Expanse during Zi hour from Blissful Retreat (while having Moonlit Flower Seed in my inventory), it finally popped up ^^
The seed you have to pick up from lizhenzhen's cave right?
how about jiangnan or later shu?
Yup, I think these flowers made our MC increase reaction to our senses and improve spiritual awareness of sounds.
It's still a pity I was unable to see a cutscene of Bellman's Oath (maybe it could tell me more), it was bugged for me 🙁
Just have to youtube it no other way
I'm kinda curious if this quest has something to do with Pangu and divide of realms to earth and heavens.
I can always create another character on my account with multiple characters but not sure if they share all progression or it's going from scratch again (I think I'm too lazy for that atm ^^)
from scratch
no, but a lot of the writing is based around real events in ancient china and many of the words used have entirely new meanings in chinese, which end up being relevant to the context. Character names arent random, for example.
The EN Localization team does its best but its nearly impossible to convey the entire picture through a different language, a lot is lost or will land differently. A popular example is the way Aunt han lover wrote in his letter, which sounds edgy in english but it shouldn't at all
You can always ask here if you don't understand something, this community is great and will point you to any stuff you'd like to learn about. I personally play with Chinese audio and English subtitles, translation isn't top notch and I'm often confused but so far I had problems only with understanding few inscriptions on the stone tablets (due to bad translation), wrong pronouns are the real deal so you sometimes end with he/she in the descriptions of NPCs, your char is often addressed as either he and she (despite your chosen gender).
I'm still not sure if Unfated Tian is male or female, they're displayed in text as "he" and "she" so hard to say for me. There are references that he knows women very well but who knows, they've been a doctor for many years already so their patients could teach them a lot! 😄
yo chat i help grandma shi shinniang become young again in where win meet
Depending where u are in progression u can pick up letters in the clinic or underground that talk about doc tian's own thoughts that should give u some ideas
I'm on my way to Kaifeng and used a boat from Harvestfall Village so I visited Still Shore already ^^
I just wasn't sure what gender they're assigned to, some documents told "he", some were about "she" and "her" 😄
I even started thinking that calling doctor Tian a female was a mistranslation with wrong pronouns~
don't be shy to ask around, people here are willing to help since it's understandable that localization is tough
i couldn't find the english version of the letter (probably because i didn't collect it yet but i can provide the chinese version if you're interested)
different, unfated tian is the one at the evencare clinic
oh thanks. i meet unfaded tian do zhengzheng quest
also stealing from his clinic for some reason
Just same surname
their tian is a different tian, unfated tian is 天不收 while tianying is 田英
I'm unable to read Chinese but if you have anything related to original source, sure ^^
other people might be able to translate it
Yeah, just same english-wise
Oooooh, we discussed it and original source, just give me a sec to pull it up
As far as discussion goes, both eng and cn texts consistently use male pronouns for him, some people in the fandom are just being mean-spirited about some details
Chinese -> English Localization is incredibly challenging
Unfated Tian, being 天不收, should translate to Unacceptable by Heaven(Sky). Whereas Unfated seems to be more like 天无缘
And Unfated Tian and Tian Ying has different "last" names
Unfated Tian -> 天 (Sky or Heaven)
Tian Ying -> 田 (Field)
I remember I saw some topic on Reddit about Unfated Tian, post addressed Chinese text missing from English version of compendium
I'll quote it since link will be censored most likely...
- “Just like Unfated Tian himself, spending every night in the well, carefully pretending to be someone he wasn’t.”
The original Chinese text has clearly mentioned “伪装成男人”(pretending to be a man) here, which literallly confirms that Unfated Tian’s male identity is a long-term disguise.
- “They could be the doctor and the tavern owner people whispered about, secret partners in the underworld, or the ‘perfect couple’ the neighbors tried to match up.”
The Chinese original uses the phrase “‘郎’才女貌” (a perfect match of a talented man and a beautiful woman), with the“郎”(a male) placed in quotation marks here, which refers that the 'man' is actually not a man.
- “In the end, two hearts could come as close as possible, but always stop just short — close enough to almost touch, forever a step apart.”
The original text here specifically refers to “两个女人的心”(two women’s hearts), not just “two hearts.” This suggests that Unfated Tian, as a woman, can share intimacy, trust, and emotional closeness with Han Xiangxun — everything except the status of being a lover.
This post #📖lore-chat message addresses the two instances that indicate Dr.Tian is not cis.male, BUT the first point commits that cn. text of "Frost beneath the well" is written in 1st person, so it isn't "(...) disguising herself as a man.", but "I spent nights hiding inside the well, disguising myself as a man."
Also it's kinda funny that of all things eng translation decided to censor this specific subplot
English "spent nights sitting near the well pretending to be the man he wasn't." can easily be read as "man in love, pretending to be not in love", and the other 2 points are also much more straightforward
yep, this basically explains everything but it might be because of the translation lost the actual meaning hasn't been conveyed fully (which is a pain, because a slight difference in a word usage can bring a totally different meaning🥹 )
sometimes things can be intepreted in various ways, so its hard to capture it and cause misunderstandings
Still hate how they translated Tian Bushou as "Unfated Tian", like why of all joke names you decide to keep only this one
I remember some text about Xianniang or something like that while exploring Still Shore, maybe that's the real identity of doctor Tian 😄
I'll check some recordings and see if I am able to find it
tianbushou is not really a normal name to begin with, and i think they wanted to translate it in a way that sounds more natural an also tied to her story
Weird or not, cn text treats it as a normal name (grammatically), while when they try to do it with "Unfated Tian" in the english text, it's all clunky
Esp when english has a 【surname "nickname" name】structure ready to be used
||Oh man, theyre making us collect the names of all who died in Zhongdu for the memorial|| 😭
Ok, I guess it's not about Unfated Tian.
Jade hairpin reminded me about Lady Ugly, I hope it's not about her deal with Auntie Han~
It's just 3y from current time (962CE), while Dr.Tian has grown adopted kids🤔
Probably these are an early hint at Velvet Shade's connections with Water Lady
is unfated his literal name or just title
what i mean is is 无缘 wuyuan his literal name or title
if wuyuan his literal name then they making mistakes by translating it i gues
WoH instinction event 😭
other sects are here too, ill make sure to get all of them
what that logo above their head
is that well of heaven logo
for inscription, youre gathering the names of those who will die in the battle
what battle?
Zhongdu
aren't battle of zhongdu already happen what you mean will oh wait this is china server this must mean prequel quest!!!
did we play as jiang yan or something?
no
aaaa
🥹
couldnt give them a proper burial
at least theyd be remembered
anyway i just beat tian ying. do mc really beat him tho. aren't in lore he strong af?.
do you play as what character?. does the mc time travel of something
无缘 is what it means if we translated unfated back to chinese, i have no idea why the devs decided to translate tianbushou as unfated tian, but what i feel is they want to relate his name to his story
the MC
please tell me his story
time travel?
its really sad thinking about the aftermath...
he lets us beat him. He needed to “die” so he can reset and retire the Tian Ying identity and continue his mission as spy in Khitan
@north trench you can read this one, it pretty much explains his story
yeah 🥲 makes me feel for the sect leader too knowing she was too late
no. Hexi also happens in the past. No time travelling
oooo. aren't you mean mioshan identity?
what is hexi?
Hexi Corridor
what is that
its a place in china
miaoshan identity can easily disappear but it was more important for people to think tian ying died because his name was tied to the khitan envoy assassination years before
Region after kaifeng in game, real place in china
oooo
so the next battle of zhongdu. no bridge
its through that lead that aureate pavillion was hunting him
okeh
no
i just summarized the story earlier for someone else, and it really makes my heart heavy🥹 the unreleased martial arts is also tightly connected
unfated tian is a women now?
hes refering to hexi, the battle took place in zhongdu bridge
she has always been, but she was disguising herself as a man all along
yeah the heng dao
I'm not sure, Unfated Tian isn't in Blissful Retreat and Evercare Clinic, it's managed by Yaoyao while doctor is away.
so what quest make us figure out that he still alive
I wonder if global localization didnt miss the context by accident, but rather chose to censor it for fear of global lash back on anti-lgbtq themes being in the game (even tho its in a historical context)
future battle of zhongdu also with bridge
Once you complete all dark surge in qinghe he is revealed putting on a new disguise and leaving for khitan
I recommend checking out youtube for some story summarizations
They can explain everything to you in good detail and often prepares it in an easy to digest manner (i.e. chronologically)
what quest make us figure out that unfated tian is women disguise as men
No the region after Hexi is Bujianshan
Hexi is split into 3 parts
Yumen Pass, Liangzhou and Qinchuan
battle of hexi
modern day hu tuo.. i get that when give 5 like
Hutuo
Hutuo is set in the past
just before the Battle of Zhongdu Bridge
after the Khitans has already occupied parts of hutuo
i think i got wrong name
what the name showing after give 5 like to healer. modern day......
Hexi is not part of the Mainstory and takes part in the past
Hexi is what you call a filler arc
i just gonna go hurt my character then call doctor and give 5 like then screen shot to see what the name was

hey karu
@peak perch raging tides member preparing to die
Shiii
the context is still there, you can overheard women in the clinic talk about how he's (or she in this case) extremely good at dealing and reassuring his female patients,as if he experienced it himself (their words not mine)
yeah but its more ambiguous, seeing as how some people are still unsure haha
like i wonder if english localization team thought “oh no what if we get canceled for this”
It's like a lot of eng translation has a lot of machine/AI translations, but for this subplot someone specifically took a close look and made manual corrections
They can censor Dr.Tian, but they can't even correct pronouns for Ruzhi in compendium and for triplets in Xue Chou's journal
(I'll see myself out)
just like the twelve years of feud quest? it's set in the past? so only the region after hexi is a continuation of the main story?
correct, Bujianshan will be main story
we have like 1/4, or around that amount, of Bujianshan story out
Hexi takes place in the past
ah no wonder you call it filler arc
tho if something is filler it's almost always because something devasting is going to happen next...
is that the case for Bujianshan
?
Bujianshan is nowhere near finished so who knows. But familiar faces will be around
even evil ones
whole of Hexi is a tragedy
better prepare our tissues then...
If you look closely it shows the bamboo hut reflection in the raindrops reversing from dilapidated to fully functional during the childhood flashback so it means the child sequence is the memory.
It's 962, the Chinese version is correct lol they should fix that typo
Hexi hits different
Need explaination with shadow in bloom, a lost chapter.
What this about
Suddenly their char qin roulin, is she had big part in the future?
wait I’m gonna dm you something about hexi hahaha
sure
The Chinese version of a compendium entry. #📖lore-chat message
Forget the compendium or journal, the pronouns are messed up even in the main quest 🤣 My female character got referred as 'he' multiple times esp in Kaifeng arc
That's so pretty wth did the graphics improve?
The problems with fem.MC pronouns are in so many games with choice of MC gender, it made me blind😭
Pronouns are well they can be differentiated他 vs 她 but like 他 is very acceptable for both as well
We don’t really care much for pronouns so in translations it gets mixed if they are working with no context
It’s not as eye catching as a he called she out she called her
Sure 她 if you want to stress they are female but using 他 for both is perfectly fine.
i feel like some quest is perfectly fit if the mc is female and some quest is perfectly fit if mc is male
who melon
Highly recommend all to female melon
aunty han!!!!! is that you!!!!???
Melon is the MC there’s a whole meme and story behind that but not important
Young Master = 少東家 sounds like 燒冬瓜 = roasted winter melon = male melon and female melon
Oh, you're actually right. I guess that it must have been our MC walking to Bamboo Abode back then before we were attacked by "unknown" wanderer and our pendant was stolen.
Female melon voice in the newest lost chapter quest was so good
The way she looks down the patheticness and spineless ness of the dude
Yeah her Ohs was amazing
I also like the scene of the dad beating the son, that guy needs an Oscar
On one side he’s beating the son on another he’s coming up with excuses for him, making it hard for the other guy to place blame
I was like this guy knows how to put on a show
We can see the ship outline from flower expanse beyond 👀
my coment on it is. why father shen is so tyrant treat shen yu badly. but when he just found out that it actually xiao shi that meet his daughter at night he suddenly forgiving him
patriarchy thing i guess
YESSS i really like the female melon va hahahhaa
https://discord.com/channels/1180042348755963924/1464561996442763334 . Feel like a true immortal take pictures on the sky fly where ever you want
It’s because Xiaoshi is a nobleman
He was mad that she stepped out of line but more so that she chose to associate with what he thought was lower class stock
Turns out the guy was a noble man and her probable fiancé then it become much less problem
Also it’s harder back then than now to condemn other people’s children especially when they are already being punished and beaten
It was a world of etiquette rather than liability and lawsuits today
So it’s hard for him to say well your son did wrong let’s see some compensation when the guy is already getting beat infront of him and both houses are noble houses
Unless you are outright having a blood feud noble relations need to be maintained nobly and that means taking a step back when the situation calls for it.
woooo
now i get more of the context
hah finally i got screen shot it a modern day hua tuo
Papa Xiao went out of his way to be super extreme angry to make it super awkward for Papa Shen To say or do anything
Like in that particular situation the only proper thing Papa Shen can do is be like “ well no harm no foul, it’s not so bad etc.” literally anything else he does would make him look really petty and bad
hua tuo is not hu tuo
i want the ability to speak Chinese i have resources but i am lazy... damn
Watch some Chinese dramas on Netflix is easy way to start
Just don't expect to understand the game dialogue off that tho
It helps me to do HSK level 2 and some of the game's dialogue, although not all of them
But I know that the translation is off
The Chinese in the game is a bit flowery, archaic poetic kind of stuff. It's not easily understandable sometimes for even native Chinese speaker
I think mc after finding aunt Han past mc will search for uncle jiang in the lore
If you look past the fiction, the story is pretty much just "Make Song Dynasty Great Again"
We're low-key just helping Emperor Taizu a.k.a Big Zhao expand the Song Dynasty
Since we're still in the year 962 closing in 963 CE, it will take around 5 or 6 more seasons until the first invasion against the Khitans.
I say wait for the global server to get more stuff. It's not black and white.
The Imperial Palace will be coming soon, we just had the pre DL on the Chinese servers. I remember the Devs planning to release it around the same time for global too
Loved the new Lost Chapter. Free mini cdrama 10/10 popcorn experience would trope again. Felt so bad for Shen Yu though, her life was basically jail.
Ye agreed
Yeah it’s like Shakespearean if i had to make an analogy
Yet if not for the jail she’d never met her bird
Fate work in mysterious ways
What year did big zhao die and little zhao take over again
I mean it’s not really make Song great again, the song hasn’t even gotten to be great yet
Song barely found its footing
chat there is two YouTube video explaining tian ying story one is 30 minutes other one is 40 minutes. which one should i watch maybe both i guess
Yeah Song wasn't a great dynasty
