They aren't in relationship, at least not the kind the dialogue implies. Zhang Cuo and Zheng E were both adopted by Feng Yi and Zhu Yu. They are, in fact, much closer than one would expect from sons of noble houses on opposite sides of Kaifeng, but that's because they're adopted brothers. The fact is somewhat known in North, where Dragon Hall was operating and where they grew up, but not so much in other parts of Kaifeng, so their bond creates some confusion in commonfolk (especially when the people are bored and upset with politics, lol, then all sorts of stories might fill the air)
And Ghost Master, and Void King, and Ye Wangshan. YM saw a clearly cursed object in obviously cursed location, and though "gotta check it out"
Okay void king
There was no talking that one out
Mc wanted to find a cure, which was fair enough
And then got attacked because he looks too much like his uncle
But there was, in fact, option to not go into suspicious religious cave
that's the same answer I got before, that Zhang Cuo was his adopted brother. At that point I didn't know much about them. It's just I couldn't think of a reason why such a rumor would spread
But he could’ve saved lives !!
(Also it’s funny that if the village chief kills the two village members, then you steal from the chief in front of their “corpses” they stand up accusingly)
I mean, if you hear "Zhang and Zheng have been seen together", and you don't know the story only that Zhang family is local and Zheng family is from across the country, and you're upset with certain Zhang's policies.... yeah, I can see how certain rumors could happen
Quick question zhang cuo was the guy we tried to save from zheng e right
The lord of the granary
Or am I getting a third party mixed up
That's Shen Yilun! (Much worse for Zheng E's psyche)
I uh don’t recall this Zhang cuo from the flashback
Zhang Cuo is the guy with big green mask in Heroes Assembly
The Flashback is mere hours before Zheng E got adopted by Zhu Yu
Just Zheng E, Shen Yilun was left to return to his family (you know, the ones that are still alive)
Hm alright
Okay so I was under the impression that, Zheng E takes the identity of Shen Yilun
To do his scheme, before we catch him
When did the transition into Zheng E publicly being the lord of the normal granary happen
Because I remember the mc telling him to keep up the facade but I might be misremembering this part
Or he was picked up by family later, as we know he spent some time on the burnsite and found a pendant he always kept on his person [they're so sentimental, Zheng E uses the fan Shen Yilun gifted him, Shen Yilun kept the pendant]
He didn't, only select few know that Zheng E switched places with Shen Yilun. For everyone else it's business as usual with Master Shen
And if you complete a delivery side-quest, you get a letter and YM remarks smth along the lines "Well, I'm glad Zheng E made peace with Master of Grain identity"
Then
Why would he mention lord Zheng with the context of reasonable pricing of grain
He seems to have a public position in the ever normal granary that has actual power
There is other dialog talking about how Zhang Cuo brought some agricultural advice from "his buddy Zheng", so I think people think Zhang Cuo is taking advice from lord Zheng [as in, heir/head of the noble family Zheng]
Give me a second, I'll make Zheng E timeline
Wait what so this cozy relationship isn’t with zheng e?
The relationship between Zheng and Zhang are cozy, but not the type of cozy affair the NPCs are implying, they're just adopted brothers
Yeah that seems fine but you said something about this lord Zheng in the dialogue being about the heir of a family
Which… I don’t think zheng e quite is
He's heir of Zheng family (the family destroyed by fire), not Zhu/Feng/River Master family
Okay so lord zheng only refers to his status as heir of the zheng family
As 1st and only surviving son of at the time Head of Zheng house, I'm p sure it makes him the heir
I guess zheng e could be slowly promoting himself from his other identity
Until “shen yilung” resigns
I mean, he is still in high society, so not that many promotions to get
- early time, Zheng family is a big noble clan, Shen family is a common family that lives nearby. Zheng E, Zheng Ran and Shen Yilun meet at school and become friends
||- a few years pass, famine strikes. As noble family, Zhengs have much more resources, but they've got a full village to feed for unknown length of time, so they're rationing. Children of Zheng family charitably give some of their rations to people who need it more. From some people's POV it looks like they're rolling in grain while everyone else starves - Shen Yilun's brother gathers some mercs and attacks Zheng family estate, burning everything
- From the burnt manor, Zheng E is taken in by Zhu Yu as her student. (From here on, story treats him as part of the family, so I guess it counts as adoption)
- some time passes. Zheng E, Feng Ruzhi and Zhang Cuo grow up together as siblings
- as the situation in Mistveil forest gets worse, Sun Yuan and Zhu Yu pick up their personal students (Zhai Xu and Zheng E respectively) and a few Silver Needles members to form a research team on Dawn-to-Dusk
- as tensions grow, Zhu Yu returns to her swordsman career, and ofc she brings he student with her
- I'm p sure Zheng E saw Zhu Yu die on battlefield, but don't quote me on this
- somewhere this on previous two points Zheng E gets reputation of "Zheng the Frostwing" as he's a pretty strong young swordsman
- with Zhu Yu's death and Heavenfall in famine, Zheng E spirals. He (maybe with input from Ember and Shimmer) makes up a plan of taking over the Ever-Normal Granary, fakes his death||
- Basically what you know from Zheng E-Shen Yilun plot happens here
@echo remnant hope this helps
This is really helpful
Thank you
No problem
Any point here could be expanded, so feel free to ask
Guys, who is the ninja in the prologue who stole our pendant? Someone told me it was Jiang is that true? And what was the reason behind it?
not to mention ruzhi's only 16
zhuyu's influence is so big that everything crumbled when she's gone
it was pretty obvious that it was jiang I think (we dont know why he disappeared, but he mainly did that to protect us because the jade pendant signifies our identity)
Are we part of General Wang Qing who was killed by Uncle Jiang?
It may be more accurate to say that General Wang Qing, like in actual history, was killed by the Khitans at the Battle of Zhongdu Bridge. What Jiang Yan killed was a zombified Wang Qing.
MC was not a member of General Wang Qing's unit, or at least.. not as an adult member... since MC was found as a baby on the battlefield by Jiang Yan
It is actually very easy to pronounce Yao2 Yao4Yao
The first Yao is a family name, while the second and third characters mean "medicine" in Chinese. They have the same pronunciation but in different tones
You see a lot of "Yao" in names in this game or elsewhere, and quite often they are different characters
But in English they can only be written as Yao...
Since different chinese characters have different meanings... English readers will never be able to know what the name means just by looking at the romanized word.
For example, this vendor in Qinghe, is Xiao Yao...
Yao in this name... seems the same as Yao from Yao Yaoyao's name.
But it's a different character.
It is 遥 instead of 姚 or 药
I know, I myself am Chinese
The difficult part would be formally declaring her name
Because you need to take a pause between the first yao to distinct itself from the second and third yao lmao
she can say "你好,我姓姚,叫药药" hahah
actually, in chinese, each word would be distinct
Yao2 Yao4 Yao (the last one would be toneless)
So you don't need to pause
Cuz he wanted to protect us
Enemies recognize the mc by the jade pendant thats why unc Jiang stole it
Lowkey what’s the point of the jade
Jiang didn’t want to bring it when he reached Tian Ying
Water lady for some reason refuses to hide it herself
We will find out when game's EOS
And the mc is left zero information on what to do with it
Actually I lied the only purpose so far is to list the character’s name
Watch lore on yt maybe it explains better
Yao^3 she's so asian she's a math function
To an English observer it would be a cube... but to a Chinese reader it would be 姚药^2
yeah I know, I can read ~70% Chinese 🤣 it was just funny the first time I saw her name in Eng
lol ikr it was funny to me too
I saw what the devs were doing
they made a lot of puns in this game.. which would totally be missed by the majority of the english speakers
It would be really nice if switching languages can be done with just a hotkey..
Yeah dw
I wish my chinese literacy was better tbh. i think I'm still missing a lot of stuff that'd be very familiar to someone who has gone through cn education system 😭
Yeah that definitely is a plus
I consume a lot of chinese media and online literature/novels so the small pop culture references here and there are so fun to notice
For example the tomb robbing encounter in Kaifeng has the 4 tomb robbing sects from Ghost Blows out the Candle
I don't think we know for sure. There could have been information Jiang Yan had got recently that made him decide to take it. I don't think we know if he gave and made us that jade or if it was on us when he found us. It was certainly to protect us, and I imagine he disguised himself because he knew the MC would want to follow and get involved. But the context around it all I think we'll just have to wait and find out.
Is there a summary of Mistveil City's lore? Or is the city all fake like the nine mortal ways NPC said when we came out?
What are the Boundary Stones in the lore?
The 9mw one is fake ofc. The actual one is the girl gets sold and becomes a ghost bride. In other words marry a dead guy and she is killed with poisoned wine thereafter so they can be buried together
So all the shadow enemies that you encounter in the mistveil city are fake too?
Shadow enemy?
oh wait by mistveil city u mean the new dungeon with lots of chest
i havent done that
it's likely a macguffin like the ancient medallion from Punch up that makes the true owner uber broken in terms of potential
bruh idk where the 44th chest in the mistveil city
i just finished the main story. I now understand more that a terrible ending can ruin what could be a great story overall
You all say he did it to protect us but if you understood Chinese lore you would all know that Jade pendants were given to children usually by their mothers for protection.
A jade pendant often signifies a connection to heaven and typically had revered symbols of protection, virtue, and status, believed to ward off evil spirits, bring good luck, and promote health…
So was it truly taken to protect us? Or was this what set us on our path of fighting demons?
The main story isn't close to finishing
U just finish a chapter
yes, that place doesn't seem like a fake prank at all
How can I replay quests?
It's not. They didn't know they built the set on top of a cavern that leads into Daliang, a Warring States-era city that Kaifeng was built on top of.
Kaifeng in real world was in fact founded on top of several city ruins that were built during different eras
Do you think encounter parallel to main story?
How to fight npc nimble in nine mortal ways in ghost market? She refuses everytime i try to spar her
this is not rlly the right place to ask but you need to wear clothes first else she wouldn't spar w you
encounters are more like some side quests from npcs but certain encounters does give info that are related to the main story
I see, thanks!
if i wasn't wrong from the cutscenes i saw somewhere there was a shot of the baby holding the jade pendant and chewing on it, so i think its more likely that we already have it when he found us
and a lot of them are hella funny too😭
tks man
Damn, it might be a bit meta, but kinda funny that the moment uncle took the protection pendant, the YM immediately "got possessed" by the player
Probably nothing but a funny coincidence
This is so funny esp when you hear two npcs talking about how YM got powerful abilities so quickly that they say it's like lighting striked him and he suddenly was able to master martial arts, something is strange
Poor YM, he really get deltarune'd
Feng Yi needs a training from YM on how to cope with grief in constructive ways
with no context, you would think shimmer of the south is the matchmaker here
yes pls YM got his home village burned, his sister died while trying to get them escape, uncle jiang hasn't come back in 3 years, aunt han is gone, yi dao died protecting us. YM experiencing this at the ripe age of 16-17 and still going around amazes me and also mades me worry for the little kid T0T
Also, Dr.Tian gone, no reliable adult left in sight
I'm kinda glad big Zhao picked him up almost as soon as he stepped foot in Kaifeng, YM was left so alone...
The gossip sessions between Shimmer and Ember must go so hard, oh I wish to be the fly on the wall there
YM is a budding youngling in the sense that he have the innocence of a pure hearted child but we know not everyone still have that kind heart, that's why I was so worried for the kid when they first arrived in Kaifeng. Kinda glad we displayed Uncle Jiang's blade martial skills or if not, we'd probably will not be picked up by Big Zhao that much.
At least he got a bit of reality check with Yingying, he was moving a bit smarter by the end of the plot
Still got passed around by VS ladies, but he can't immediately gain spy consciousness, not falling for street tricks is already some progress
Like we already meet tang xinci or getting kidnap to ghost market, but when we meet tang xinci again or after degeat dao lord and go to ghost market, its like mc just meet tang xinci or being in ghost market at first time
it will take time but knowing how he can pick up things well, I believe in the kid.
sacrified my life to take this photo i should have though of it sooner lol
Have you considered that YM, among everything, is also a bit stupid[/j]
Really, some reactions are scripted poorly, like if you go back to certain Wandering Tales locations, the same voiceless are going to play even if the quest is completed
I once seeked out the immortal they called rat infact i ended up in a cave with ninemortal ways the great immortal seeks the dao trough schemes i learned trough watching the wicked way days weeks just to learn his scamming way enlightent by whealth till karma its own hand delt the cool brace of a sword they allowed him to live but shattered his core
I left the fool too his grave left him a piece of gold i a rising star seen another fall so far he grew old dust and bones you reep what you sow but i refuse yield to fate a demon a path against order to be my own the heavenly dao asks to atone erase emotions A body of peace dao slaves i follow my desire but not be consumed by it in anyway but to have the final say if heaven seeks to destroy ill make it pay
Toss a coin to the story tellers way
Doing this to lvl up anyways
Thank you!
Have fun
for areas that change after the quest, does it revert that?
No idea try it
No problem
Guys, can you show me where is cat play in nine mortal ways base? I can't find the cat
Shimmer=breedable
I was just saying this the other day
True and correct
two lion statues before the main building. The cat is on the statue to the right, with an NPC standing in front of it. It's wearing a rat mask
yea bro. No matter how many times I relog, pet the cat. It won't count
Even the cat is a scam
then idk, I just talked to the NPC, then 'petted' the cat. I actually gave it a high-5
tks man
mhm, a lot of these quests are triggered when you're running around here and there, so its really hard to actually strictly keep in sequence, sometimes we gotta just piece them up ourselves
Though when you're trying to do a run to achieve all of them in a run and make things quick, the mysterious nature of encounter quests does delay you. Though I would say the encounters in the game kind of feel like what you would experience in real life. And I feel like that's the beauty of it though it might not be the most efficient sometimes.
You may need to see a doctor and get a pill prescribed for the performance issues you are describing/ experiencing
Ironically enough , Chinese medicine is better than western medicine in these cases
Uncle Jiang =/= Big Zhao
They're different people.
but big zhao = yingying
I'm not exactly the best at math so I'll leave that to ya
transformation pill
totally agreed, its an experience to just bump into one
Why does yao yao not recognize me i js finished chapter 1
YM is officially dead and lore-wise is wearing a mask around Heaven's Pier to conceal their identity. It's kind of open-ended if NPCs are playing along or genuinely can't recognize them
Why would they not recpgnizs them tho
Makes way more sense if they js playing along
Also wtf was aunt han doing during the attack on blissful retreat while we were fighting for our lives
Probs dealing with the invasion somewhere on the other side of village + it was her who pulled YM out in the end, so she was somewhere nearby
Isnt she the strongest out of all of us why wasnt she the one 1v1ing qianye 💀
Or at least protecting ruby or smthn the village aint that big
One of the NPCs recognized MC and the Chinese dialogue is actually a little melancholic.. He's in Heaven's Pier.. 米叔
I forgot what the english name is.. Uncle Mi maybe?
It was supposedly a huge contingent of Aureate Pavilion members raiding the village... and Qianye probably wasn't interested in 1v1 at the time.
Oh, so Yaoyao is just playing along... should've learned some spy conduct from Dr.Tian
Idk if yaoyao was playing along.. but Uncle Mi kinda mentioned something about Yaoyao telling him that the MC had resurfaced..
oh what really? I swear some lines still say young master
Idk it js seemed rlly weird to me not seeing her while the entire village was burning and yi dao and ruby got kirked
The thing is.. and I explained in this channel before... that the words "Young Master" actually means two things in Chinese... like... two different Chinese terms of address can be translated into English as Young Master... actually maybe more than two..
Yeah the first line when entering Harvestfall Village "Wait you look familiar, are you the young master of the Blissful Retreat?"
So in the English version... Young Master as a term of address could come from a stranger.. or could come from a villager of Blissful retreat.
Ah okay.. You meant they found him familiar and asked if he was the young master of the retreat?
It's like "respected young man" kind of addressing from them
Hmm in that case, I think they literally just meant that.. they found him familiar..
I got that dialogue way before i finished chapter 1
Doesn't mean they recognized him
well this one does
Well, if you got that dialogue before you finished chapter 1 that means someone in the village hasn't seen young master for a long time.. because he grew up at the bamboo abode..
it isn't exclusive to post ch1 as yk V_7 also says
he does visit blissful retreat occasionally i think
I think some dialogs just remain unchanged before and after
maybe it was a bug but i just chose to believe that the person who said that probably hasn't seen MC for a while
the bamboo abode is quite a distance away from Blissful Retreat anyways...
It just stays the same that line
I think it's fine lore-wise
Hate to interrupt the flow of conversation as I have already but how many of the 8 Heroes are confirmed? I know the Sleeping Daoist and Puppeteer brothers
There's always a possibility that devs f-ed up with some triggers for 6th line unnamed NPCs, the game is giant
You can try searching in this chat, we discussed it some time ago (or you can wait for me to pull it up)
This has great break-doqn when you click on it
Or the devs are trying to show that news don't reach some places, they don't have many fast all-accessible sources
Like Zheng E and Zhang Cuo's connection never reached some places, creating rumors we discussed
As much as I like to assume everything is intentional, I think some lines are simply untouched
That would make sense. Or at least that's what I would choose to believe.
My goodness there are puns everywhere
In 9MW base, or in character names?
Mostly character names or item names. Or they would subtly hint of some remote connections with some other story in another part of history..
I can't really think of any specific one, but if I come across one again I will share
is snake doctor on the journal-character list? If so does anyone know where you unlock him
The eight heroes of Hedong, mentioned in the lore, makes me think of two different groups of characters.. one group mythical... and the other one historical.
The mythical group were the Eight Immortals in folklore
The other, lesser known, but actual historical group were the Eight Pei Siblings of Hedong, of the Pei Clan, which saw it's demise in the Five Dynasties period
I know the 8 heroes of hedong in the game wouldn't be the Peis, because though the siblings belonged to the long-lasting Pei Clan of Hedong, they passed away long before the Five Dynasties period.
Devs obviously made them up, but it's interesting how they made them the 8 heroes of hedong, which makes people think of these two groups and wonder if there are any connections.
So it's stuff like that.. you know? all these subtle connections... similarities.. conincidences?
Very interesting. Thought provoking.. love it
It almost feels like they are teasing you
Considering how much historic inspections are already in game, chances are they are indeed inspired by at least one of stories you rought up
It's like the devs are winking and saying "if you know you know" on some plots
Yea.. I love the amount of effort they put into crafting such narratives and characters... and the way they position them in the world.
haha yea.. "if you know you know".. this is actually a popular saying in Chinese "懂的都懂“
I think version of this phrase shows up in all languages, it's such a perfect way to ragebait outsiders and stroke ego of those in the know
Exactly
Different between monk and daoist and taoist?
"Daoist" is specifically for those who follow Dao(ism) (might be applied on any level), monk are for those who, well, serve as monks in any religious institution (Buddhist temples for WWM)
And what is dao?
Are daos not part of Buddhism?
No
What god they serve as daoist, bc monk will be buddha
Buddhism is a religion following teachings of Buddha. Daoism is a philosophy following variety of interpretation of "pursuit of Dao", no god
I mean if they dare to attack blissful retreat, qianye would have plans to deal with aunt han
I advice you to google forth, there are many worthy and more reliable sources about this specific thing online
Religions in ancient (or even today) China are quite different from that common in the west, like Christianity. They don't serve their gods like how a Christian worshipper would serve their god.
Many eastern religions are more like philosophies
She's recognises u. She's mc childhood friend who grew up with him. She's also the one that made the medicine pouch mc is carrying. The one u need to upgrade from time to time.
She's just playing along with the deception that u apparently died in the aureate invasion
There are so many branches of Buddhism too and Daoism evolved a lot over time. They're less centralized than Western religions, more adapted to local cultures, and generally more tolerant of varieties of beliefs. It's more like "here are all the many ways people have found that led to spiritual growth/enlightenment, pick what works for you."
The goal of both are also less about exalting gods and more about personal development and attaining individual spiritual growth. Less about faith and more of a practice and a way of life.
Is Shi Shouxin the Nameless General?
@flint copper one more chance im sorryyyyy
Eastern religions r mostly the art of noticing
Well I didn't know that, and do appreciate the lesson, thank you.
While this is very true.
There's a whole cosmology of gods in both Buddhism and Taoism.
Even in the philosophy of the belief.
The line between philosophy and religion is very blurry in China
I wouldn't be surprised if we go to terracota army dungeon someday
Someone said Aunt Han changes our face, so if we didn't wear a mask, ppl still won't recognizes us
That's a big claim.... someone would have to find a source for it to back it up
I found it on youtube 🤣
i went back just to check, they don't recognize you
Teleport to Harvestfall boundary stone, walk up to woman on the path
the exact line in chinese is "哟,这位少侠有点眼熟,好像不羡仙那个少东家", which translates to "you look familiar... so alike to the young master of blissful retreat"
this line does stay the same before completing chapter 1 and after, so take into that context/purpose how you want in terms of why they left it in -- but there's no implication that they recognize you in the original chinese text
And the English line is “wait you look familiar, are you the young master of the blissful retreat?”
Oh, yeah, English line is very much "you look familiar... aren't you the young master (..)?" Which is much closer to being recognized
Translation strikes again
I'm a native chinese speaker too, the language you would use when you recognize someone/identify someone is very different to the one used by the NPC which is more implying you look alike
It is more like "Yo, this young wanderer looks a little familiar, he looks a little like the young master of Blissful Retreat". In fact, she doesn't even seem like she's talking to you.. more like she's talking to herself.
And, it is still lore friendly.. because even though people in villages know each other, not every one in the village is on close terms with the young master.
So she could be someone that often sees young master from afar but never talks to him up close.
Before Chapter 1, she would say that.. and even after Chapter 1, it could still be plausible that she would say that
She's probably one of those people in the villages that never speaks to the Young Master
True
Almost like being hit "well, don't you look like Elvis", and for most people it's vague, but when you are, in fact, Elvis...
its really well done the jarring disparity between people recognising mc or not. before the event happened, almost every npc walking by in blissful retreat has a voiceline greeting mc. but none after
thats why its especially noticable to new players
Lore wise, the MC put on a mask and left the village, determined to keep a low profile. It's a clumsy plot development... tbh...
Supposedly, the MC would not return to Blissful Retreat, at least not for a long time...
but you know.. as players... we just gotta go back... because some of us need completion... lol
or miss a certain childhood friend/buddy/cutest person in the world 😢
If we ever head West from Kaifeng to Chang'an then yeahh. I dont see a reason not to visit. It has enough mysteries and mysticism, perfect for a wuxia story to slip in
Well before completion, still need upgrade medical bag as well
In the next expansion, we go to Hexi, which is overshooting Chang'an and going further west haha
Terracota is in Chang An?
haha yea and that
Also known as its modern name Xian
Chang'an used to be called Xian Yang, the old capital of the Qin Dynasty.... and Qin Shihuang was the Emperor of that dynasty... the first emperor... and when he died.. a whole terracota army was created to protect his tomb..
Yeaa but we didnt go to Hexi 'physically' tho
yea
Hexi further west and Bujianshan and Hutuo further east, it will be a long time to see we change course to south 🤣 maybe we will travel around the world first then the finale or climax
I don't know if Chang'an would be featured...
It is a lot of work for the devs to recreate that city..
I see. On wiki it says Xi'an so I thought it was different place 😭
Xian Yang -> Chang'an -> Xi'an (today)
Lots of places changed names depending on who ruled them
Kaifeng used to be known as Daliang, Bianliang, Bianzhou...
Maybe just a domain like Daliang not the entire city yeah 😅
It will be interesting if they recreate the Southern Tang cities
I wonder if the plot will move south
I know I'm bad at geography. Does Jiangnan located below kaifeng?
I mean it has to right? Shimmer invited us South. And Song will still move South even if delayed
Idk if it was intentional... but yesterday Chinese media released a new C-drama series called "Swords to Ploughshares" or 太平年, which features many of the characters in WWM
Our parents and origins maybe from Southern Tang 👀
I'm hoping that they will move the plot south! As in.. expand the map southwards
Jiangnan is definitely south of Kaifeng
If wars broke between Kaifeng and Southern Tang, I wish we can choose who we sided
for a short moment i thought you meant our real parents lmao (from irl)
I'm gonna choose Song... no way Southern Tang will prevail against the Song army
Nice!
Maybe... your ancestors... were from Southern Tang lmao
Idk lol🤣 maybe I can ask when I meet them at LNY
Jiangnan just means South of the River. Since in that era, most other kingdoms are located South including Southern Tang
LNY is coming..!! Hope everybody gets some big fat red packets!
Idk why I want to support Li Zuo😭 maybe it's just me🤣
You mean Li Zuo aka Emperor Ai of the actual Tang Dynasty?
the last emperor of the Tang Dynasty
How old is he to still be alive 😭
The last ruler of Southern Tang was Li Yu.
Yes lol, or maybe shimmer as hidden force 👀
He kinda got immortal (lore wise) or assumed by some to be
apparently, in the lore, Li Zuo and Li Yu are using each other (actually I am inclined to believe that Li Zuo was using Li Yu more)
I wonder how he got white hair, I know that he is old. In the past with Wang Qing, his hair is black🤣 or maybe he use harmonic cores to dye his hair? 🤣
Ahh, is Li Yu likely his puppet emperor??
probably messed around with the immortality thing while he was with his ex....
Idk if that's what the devs would like him to be.. in real life, he was a proper ruler... but a very sad one..
in the game, Aureate Pavilion is quite strong.. so maybe... they were pulling some strings in the background...
I do found it interesting that in Hutuo, we can collect this paper doll figurines for 5 painting with lantern, will there be a puppet show like in Harvestfall village
Especially after Li Zuo tinkering with immortality 😅
He has great ambitions
A vision for an immortal realm
If he was successful, Trump would be dealing with a much more overpowered China...because Li Zuo and his immortal army would still be alive today lol
If you think about it, there are many characters like Tian Ying during the Cold War era.
or even before the Cold War era... there are people like Tian Ying in every dynasty ... during the Warlord Era.. and during the Civil War era...
I love how they introduced this "cloak and dagger" dimension in the game with the larger Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms thing in the background.
I always love it when wuxia stories do this.
Timeline still goes according to history, but you can sprinkle in some over-the-top spice
Yeah I guess the Chinese version wouldve been created as a dialogue intended to be used before and after Qinghe story while the English version was just translated without context
Hmm....so are we getting stabbed by a dude or not?
Unlike Ghost Master, who is consistently referred to as male in texts, Qianye is consistently referred to as female in compendium and plot
You can always check their Compendium/Journal entries to see if there's anything, EXCEPT for Feng Ruzhi her Compendium entry has translation error
is the bathhouse not working anymore? it does not heal like is used to, or is it a bug?
we have the Ember of East and Shimmer of South, who are the North and West?
Good question? I was wondering too. Last time i tried and didnt heal
Problem with that is the translations aren't correct. In the CN version Qianye is considered an androgynous male.
North is the Khitans
that… makes sense but like what even are these directional people
They're lords who control different parts of ancient China
Whats with this translation
why does Ember of East seem so weak
Belief
Pretty much
Yingying chose to keep her Ember of East persona under major wraps, so it rendered her massively weakened?
Lord Shi literally turned to God of Avarice because of his greed and people's beliefs
wait,so potentially we might be turning too or smth?
so it wasnt that Yingying was super weak, but Lord Shi had just become that much more powerful?
Based on Wuxia Logic, there's a possibility we may reach the Immortal Realm
Wen family are primarily merchants, unlike YM's family, who are swordsmen. Illusions, manipulation and politics are Ember's primary skills, which do seem weaker compared to good old steel to the face
Yep
I see, that makes sense
How about the Shimmer of South then
well, since the true emperor is likely immortal (or atleast unaging) it's likely we'll reach his level if not higher
Isn't immortality stuff xianxia logic...
Blissful Retreat in the CN Version is called "No Envy Immortal"
because they aren't trained by legendary jianghu warriors who can slaughter whole armies alone ig?
i didnt mean relative to them, i meant relative to lord shi
i didnt think about his God of Avarice schtick
well, with how heavy YM's training and tutorage were,at this point I'll like to believe aunt Han was basically training him up into becoming an emperor or smth
Both Xianxia and Wuxia have immortality but different interpretations
You made me go read Qianye's entries in chinese text, and I feel like you're pulling my leg. The use of 她(she/her) seems consistent, as well as voicelines in journal using 姐姐, 妖女, etc., to speak of her
Do you have the Chinese version?
She better be a woman, or I make the same mistake with the ghost bride when i started this game again 😭
This one especially, it is her POV and this "you, men, (...)" seems like, androgynous or not, Quanye herself does not group herself with men
Ghost bride (in Mistveil Prison) is female, Ghost Master (boss) is not
I mean, Jiang Kui intentionally dresses this way, so if you took him for a maiden — he succeeded
oops
anyone have a screenshot of this compendium entry? i can't unlock it
i would totally feel like NMW would disguise as a woman, and immediately change into a man after bedding someone just to screw with them
I mean.... have you encountered "maiden" injustice quest on NMW base....
probably wouldnt work on a Well of Heaven member though…
nope
Their disguises are good, no one would know
I'm not spoiling anything, go forth
yeah but a WoH member wouldnt care either lmfao
I used anti-fraud manual, just clicked "obtain>" and it took me to NPC AI conversation. Bring the convo to conclusion to trigger the injustice quest
Is this from the global version translated to Chinese or the actual CN version?
It's CN text of global version. I'm p sure even on global the CN text is the og while everything else is translation. Why would they spend money rewriting Global-CN to make it different from CN-CN?
Qianye, as far as I know, is a woman.. and she even says "you men.." in one of the dialogue..
The game's text, when describing her, uses "她" to refer to her gender.... she's a woman, according to the game...
and by game, I meant the compendium..
it would be strange if the compendium lies to us... for what purpose? For us to send a ticket to the devs to ask them to correct it? as part of a puzzle? unlikely I think.
And one of the journal voicelines uses "姐姐" to refer to her, as well as other female-specific nouns
But she is a master of disguise.
As far as I know, the CN version with CN text Global aren't the exact same
The chinese text wouldn't be too different.. if they are indeed different.. you can be sure of that
it doesn't make business sense... (because of increased cost) to create uniquely different chinese text for the global version...
I accidentally found a comment that Uncle Jiang is the creator of the mystic skill dragon head, is this legit?
WHY WOULD IT BE
Finding the truth is so frustrating in this game
I mean there are 2 types of Chinese texts. Mandarin and Cantonese.
my friend...
if the global version was using Cantonese...... in the Chinese text..... i'm sure we, the native chinese speakers... can tell ..
So don't worry.. I can assure you that the Global version's chinese text isn't Cantonese.
I'm going for 简体中文 when I'm checking
Check the CN version, it's probably different to the CN text in Global version
also there aren't just 2 types of chinese text...
go ahead. let us know when you find out! thanks!
I don't have the CN version
Then kindly stop scheming when you can't even check your words
Also, even if they were using slightly different chinese text, they wouldn't change Qianye's gender between the two...
And I'm here kindly asking you to check the CN version to see if there are any difference
Cause this side of the community says Qianye's a woman while the other side of the community says Qianye's a man
There's a popular headcanon that white half in 2nd phase of Qianye bossfight has male bodytype, are you sure you aren't talking about this one?
i hear it represents a male thing, but it itself is not male
aunt hans brother or something idk
lowkey i wasnt paying attention, i jsut dont remember it being a male body thpe
No. It's about Aunt Han's brother who couldn't escape from the Liang Family, but then the Liang Family got massacred by the Gold something Pavilion which I assume is the Aureate Pavilion and Aunt Han's brother was about to be killed but the boss who took down the Liang Family took him in.
There's a greatly researched file in Ukrainian chat explaining it, if you're in the mood to look at the translation/sources they quote
but the explanation for the name in CN is that when you come here, you don’t even envy a (theoretical) immortal anymore because blissful retreat is paradise — ergo, you’ve already reached “paradise/nirvana”, thats how nice the place was
来者不羡仙
noted, I'll make sure to make it hell when we finally get to building it back up

most people’s interpretation of the god of avarice fight is that its not really a true god you fight
his “god form” was due to the illusions caused by the life coins/买命钱, which is a skill shared by ember of east and lord shi
what are life coins tho,i never really understood it
||also do we ever get back that jar of parting tears the ember of the east scams us out off?||
It’s not really explained much rn or their background — but its associated and comes from weiyang
The God of Avarice seems more like cult leader persona Shi took on
yeah exactly, in game we fight this guy who becomes a god form and slays him but in actuality its more like we fight (and beat/kill) him and the concept of protecting the weak, righteousness for all overcomes greed and the philosophy of sacrifice a few for the greater good
ofc tho the game turns this into a fight because it makes for better gameplay experience
You can get it back after you complete kaifeng’s dark surge
We do, once you finish dark surge in kaifeng
And Lord Shi turns to gold dust afterwards
good, because i was thinking of doing not so very nice things to her carcass after her boss fight as penance for taking ruby's jar 🗿 🗿 🗿 🗿
its assumed we killed him in the furnace
That's in his compendium note, pretty much sounds like another persona
Wdym we don’t get to fight her
Yea, I don't remember if he turned to gold dust or gold coins after we defeated him.
By the way, a lot of us don't really know for certain what Qianye's background is, we can only guess. But because you were quoting the Chinese text, we needed to point out that Qianye, at least according to what we can see in the game now, seems to be attributed the female gender. Whether or not that will change later on, is still unknown. So I guess that's the current situation concerning her.
damn is this Chinese schizophrenia?
Thanks. Now I can sleep peacefully and dream of Murong Yuan.
lmao
Biggest theory right now is the brother is already dead
More like list of personas of a spy, I'm sure Tian Ying also has something like this
Oh right, is her name Rong Yuan or Murong Yuan?
||became organ donor for qianye||
I believe they changed it to Rong Yuan
he becomes a figurehead for especially the common people who believe in doing anything for money basically, its just a persona he has
I thought it was translation issue
idk I just see Rong Yuan now
the big boss fight in kaifeng is more philosophical (or maybe metaphysical is a better word? idk), and it will be more like this in hexi because hexi is ||literally in a dream||
So I haven't gone senile then.
Where.... in NMW base? Rats got you
9MW base rong yuan is a fake
wait so the Hexi they're gonna release is not gonna take place in the actual location but just a dream? lmao
that actually... does make some sense cuz wasn't Hexi under the control of Western Xia
yeah, i wont spoil it more but would be happy to answer questions if people get confused after it comes out
Hexi was mix of xia and liao depending on which specific sections
I have not faced her in battle yet, i'm taking my time in the game, but i'm pretty sure the soldiers call her 容将军 or General Rong
Oh, the translators are evil
The English translation is Murong Yuan which got me confused
Maybe they haven't got around to updating the English text..
Just like how they haven't updated the numerous skill and technique names
They are extremely evil. They even dared to change Aunt Han's lovely title "Goddess of Luo River" to "Water Lady"
They may have made the mistake of not putting their text in a centralized location in their source files
Centralized text makes it easy to localize...
But it looks to me like they have it all over the place? idk... so when they change their minds about some name... they need to look all over the game files for the other places where they use it...
she looks so good tho
Huh, but her adoptive father is still Murong in both versions of text... is there a lore reason I'm missing or..?
this guy spent too much time at the gym after Big Zhao decided to retire them from the military....
would
Shi Shouxin's son has the best, most iconic Song dynasty armour..
This got me thinking right... The Rong Yuan in NMW Base is supposed to be named Murong Yuan but the translator got them mixed up or something.
I haven't got to the nmw base yet... !
haha so idk
At least in my game, she is Rong Yuan..
but the boss fights has her as Murong in eng still
My beloved Rong Yuan.
the guild reputation shop has a set just like that... can't wait to unlock it.
Long story short, translators are evil
yea idk... I no longer trust the eng text...
Nah, she's just different Rong
for me, the chinese text has like 100% accuracy, 100% meaning, 100% hidden meanings and puns...
eng is like.... idk.. maybe 90% accuracy, 60% meaning, 10% hidden meanings and 0% puns..
That's so Rong
hahahaha that's so rong
1% puns, don't forget what they did to Unfated Tian
LOL unfated tian
Iirc murong yuan refused to be associsted with the murong surname because she wasnt cool with lijun cutting ties with her and making murong adopt her
So she goes by the name rong
so many people thought Unfated Tian is Tian Ying... HAHAHa
2 Rongs don't make a right
i can't.. hahahahahahah
this game is too punny
but somehow we still get her name rong bc of the eng text
lmao we might get banned with these pun streaks
Goose overlord might be like.,.. enough.. hahaha
Goose overload..
Nobody tell them
If yesterday's Zheng E spam flew right past them, the puns can't be rong
Idk much about Rong Yuan yet but I can't wait to uncover more.. i'm literally outside Jinming Pool now.. but too lazy to continue.
gotta grab some grub
I spent too much time explaining to my friend who was watching my stream about why there is a HUGE chinese ship in the middle of a pond in the middle of a fort
she's like... is that Zheng He's (from the Ming Dynasty) ship?!
and i'm like "wrong dynasty"...
Too many dynasties with big ships
China really went crazy with the ship building back then...
One of their ships was many times larger than an average european caravel
hmmm.. now that I think about it.. china is still being crazy about shipbuilding today lol
They're so right, big ships are cool, and when the geography allows for it, why not
Zheng He from the Ming Dynasty probably had the largest oceanfaring fleet in the world at the time.
He went all the way to Africa, and I believe he brought a giraffe back to China to impress the Emperor.
What he didn't do, thankfully, is what the Europeans did with their fleets.. which is colonization
Damn, how bad was the emperor to make the ships guy so crazy
I haven't read till that point about the Ming Dynasty.. my readings about the Ming stopped at Zhu Yuanzhang, the founder.. but apparently, Ming spent a lot of money on their global ocean voyages, trading and building relations, and mapping
(I know he was probably just trying to impress emperor, but I can't miss opportunity to turn it into danmei subplot)
yeah I was about to say...
I read an account where one observer on the coast remarked that when he looked at the horizon, he couldn't see it.. the Ming fleet clouded the seas when they arrived..
with that many troops and ships, it must have been quite easy for him to subjugate many kingdoms in the southern hemisphere.
Colonization doesn't seem to be on the menu for the Ming court though..
tbf, with how fast dynasties falls it makes sense they aren't trying to conquer outside land
If i'm not wrong there is one other AAA game that was set in the Ming...
I forgot the name.
It was heavily criticized by the chinese players for some historical error
I wanna look this good when I'm a granny
yea china has mostly been inward looking throughout history.. or at least mostly concerned with what goes on around their peripheries..
LMAO
no wrinkles.. no lines...
no greying hair
granny woke up and chose to slay
what Chinese alchemy does to a mfkr (either that or melt into goo from eating the wrong poison frogs 🗿 )
Han Xiangxun (aunt han) might have helped her....
I mean, on-land colonization is still colonization🤔 though, can't say anything on China in this regard, just on Eastern Europe
lol yea for sure.
Anyways, not the chat for history discussion
dang, you right, Auntie Han best and most sought after plastic surgeon. this is enlightening
she looks like she could rip any would-be husband apart in a second
Only these results with Zhu Yu genes
rumours have it that Aunt Han migrated to South Korea and her descendants continued her incredible trade till this day..
man that's why so many npcs have same face syndrome. they all got the knife
they need to make this fashion mainstream everywhere...
irl lol
oh they can tailor the sleeves and the overly long parts... you know.. so that you don't die from being caught in lifts and escalators..
Always can go armguards way to keep sleeves under control
it is actually quite common to see young women dressed in Hanfu in China today..
I own several hanfu and I love them except anytime I need to do anything other than sit the fabric goes everywhere
you can get this kind; easier for modern cities
oh yeah the modern hanfu are more practical hahah
I also love just pairing mamianqun with a fitted top except I haven't tried going outside with it bc I don't want to get the bottoms dirty LOL
oh wow. that's the ming dynasty skirt
that's supposed to be shorter than the skirts from other periods though
here is one variant
Oh, I saw some similar combos on TikTok, the styling of traditional+modern clothes always goes so hard
yup there are some very beautiful modern versions with embroidering and pseudo-holographic effects
I found Yingying
people in china are going crazy with the wwm cosplay right now lol
This is the one I bought on taobao. Before the whole tariffs debacle lol
wow this is beautiful!
very elegant
The pattern/embroidery is stunning
Right? I love it so much
really happy to see more cn games making into international market and spreading awareness of cool historical and cultural elements
If you have a good collection of hanfu, you can plan a trip to china during some of the festivals.. like maybe mid-autumn festival... go to some of the historic cities like Xi'an or Kaifeng and you will probably have a great time!
And you might get to add a lot more to your collection too.. getting directly from the tailors there
I wish this to all non-EU cultures, everyone deserves to have passionate showings to e/o
I def want to travel around in China more, so much to see and do and eat hahahah
well of heaven is never beating the allegations
NMW too, not with Fan Qicha and Er Mao
Er Mao is sweet, but like everyone's flirting with him, and he's so blind
himbo
The purest form of himbo
He even go MB disciples flirting, however clumsy she does, like daaaamn
we stan a lovable himbo
i lowkey do not like yingying all that much
i find it so funny because like
all these signposts are all like MOMMY and YES MOMMY
lowkey bro, lemme just get my Parting Tears before I part this woman in half with my Modao
The only ones he couldn't move are Mohist Hill, which is so in-character for STEM labrats
Er Mao even got Lone Clouds and Inkbound Order disciples approaching him
is there anything that can be missed by completing chapter 1? for example like a side quest or a cat or anything like that? I am wondering if i should speedrun the campaign on my legend account
Make sure your Wandering tales in Heaven's Pier and General's shrine are in order!
Got it! Will do, thank you so much 😄
There were two encounters that I missed after Chapter 1. Can't get them back.
They were next to Blissful Retreat, near to the pier.
here
if I'm not wrong there were two brothers and three bowls of wine on a table.
You can still get all encounters
I meant Exploration Quests
I think one is called Feasts before the Beasts
And the other is called Angler by the River
Wait what boss is that on the screen
wolf maiden i think
Yi Dao
No
Shes in kaifeng
ohh ohh sorry i thought you meant the feast before the beast quest...,
but that is how you start it... isnt it?
Yidao
yea that's what I said lol
I fought him in dreamscape map
This starts wolf maiden though i have done this before... i coudlnt find it again because im just dumb lol
Set time to Zi hour if u havent killed her and get into her place
Interesting. I didn't start it before finishing chapter 1 and when I came back after , the people are all gone
I did allat for fang mask accessory
yea Wolf Maiden can be started without this exploration quest
I walked in and triggered it..
Same
but what happens when you drink the wine three times after chapter 1? i have walked in and triggered her boss arena in kaifeng too
in fact, I think I triggered it because some wolf hunters were asking me to go up the slope and kill some wolves for them
That's her Kaifeng "quest" if you could even count it as such
I triggered it intentionally by setting time to Zi hour while standing in the boss arena
man what does ermao look like to be pulling this much
Does anyone here know lore about the Chinese-exclusive bosses? Just wondering
Heres a hint
Ahhh, that’s a good boss. Seen a couple videos of it. There’s one boss that I would love to know more about it. It’s called 五残
As far as ik im not sure about the lore
This is the divine lion boss
Has 8 phases
Is in the main quest?
for the image
I’d send a photo of the boss but I don’t have a high-enough rank
Just dm me
ember of east lost her martial arts when we met her, and the lord shi we met is not the real lord shi, the real one is already dead if i remembered correctly
murong yuan is her name, but she despises the surname murong bc of her misunderstanding with her fathers, so she goes by rong yuan. i was wondering why they translated her full name in game only to the see the fake one in nmw base😭
i came acros someone who cosplayed her really good
it actually has a sad story for WOH 🥹 they commisioned him to draw the disciples that ||lost their life in the battle||
Share the sauce bro
Put a space
ahhhh yes there you go
https:// v.douyin.com/iAyDxK9neVs/
she did qianye too but most of her posts are fengruzhi since ruzhi is her favourite
Holy shii she' ripped
Is anything known about the mythical deer?
It's liu qingyi the deer immortal I think
can anyone explain why we had to do shadows in bloom in kaifeng before doing the main story? kinda throws me off that we've already been here, met important people and then the main story takes us here and it feels like its the first time being here?
I have question after watching some housing guide from CN player, that in the future update, seems like the Blissful Retreat will get restored? not in the dream world, but in the main world, is this correct? and if it is where can I get more information about this?
I do wonder about his face underneath the mask 👀
it's a side quest to introduce the revelry hall and the important ppl like qin ruolan and stuff, basically giving you a head start (where you can collect letters and so on), it might look weird because we recently just got chased out of the hall but you can think of it as a quest that let you actually visit the hall
When new bulding feature patch is out, you can recruit npcs and stuff too
I meet wolf maiden when i level 10😭
does anyone know why i couldn't find the strange guest near the dock at blissful retreat for the cant of the jianghu quest? does he spawned somewhere else? i already got the token but i couldn't find him.
Iirc we fought shadow minotaurs in a dungeon that needs us to light blue fire like in gleaming abyss entrance to kill the minotaurs and access the deer boss
same i met her pretty early on but i forget where i had met her probably because it was before chapter 1 so the place changes
So. I finished Kaifeng yesterday and saw the final ending.
Small issue: I play the game in Chinese with English subtitles and...
The letter we read isn't translated, and whatever we're told in that room isn't either.
I have no idea what the ending said. XD
I met her in ch 1. That's why I was so confused during the injustice encounter wolf maiden 🤣
Mine also like this. So i watch the cutscene on youtube just in case I see subs, but shimmer english VA literally said what's in the letter "thank you for the wine, until we meet again in Jiangnan"
Ah I see! Thx!
That's why I can't wait for Jiangnan 🤣
I'll probably be on YouTube checking if I missed anything lore wise today tbh. I love it but my memory of name is horrible and so is face recognition at time xD
Is Shi Shouxin the Nameless General?
No, different person
Damn
So it was John Windsmeet after all
Why did he throw hands at us? Just a test of might?
I reread all the dark shards yesterday and I was just... Ok so this person is 2 person, and this one is 3, and those 2 are the same one and....
XD
-Hits the characters with a paper fan- Quit. Having. Multiple. Roles.
Btw, when were the last belltower encounter and the flower field encounter added in Qinhe? Were they always there and I missed them earlier or are they recent?
appreciate the explanation
@sudden shard Oh I know, I know. I saw both encounters yesterday. I was just wondering if I had missed them. (Was that flower in moonlake passage always there??)
I fully admit that they were both absolutely gorgeous... But they're also something I'm going to have to check coz...
Well. Both seem linked. Coz sound and light? But no idea who we saw xD
Oh sorry, i didn't read your question well. I thought you want the ways to get them trigger lol. That 2 new encounters and also Kaifeng shovel added during first 1.2 update
I don't think that flower was there before, since I use the tools for piecing 3 letters part from TY.
Aaaah. Makes sense, makes sense. So I hadn't missed it the first time I finished Quinhe. Good. I'll just have to keep an eye on whenever they unlock the other ten listed there xD
Yea, I don't think so either or I'm very very blind 🤣
As for the 2 new encounters. It's typically the type of quest that makes me wonder if my complete cluelessness is cultural (aka, I don't understand Chinese nor do I know the culture enough) or if the game is vague on purpose and I'm not meant to understand.
Probably a mix of both tbh.
I think the bell quest is just the game telling you the MC's wind sense is kinda OP
True. (In an absolutely beautiful way. MC, gimme your eyes a sec, I want to see like that irl xD)
Free world sometimes suffers from "you started it, so you finish it", so if you run around for some time before starting Main Quest in this area, all the triggers for next quests are already there – if you ran into it, the location will lock into that quest. Main Story can't overwrite "location locking"
Guys, is Little Fu the leader of the Nine Mortal Ways?
Not officially, they are only acting as the dao lord, xue chou is probably the guy handling the sect's affairs since the other 3 are still kids
who is xue chou?
Co founde rof 9mw, he adopted the kids
there is a tombstone right before we fight the three kids, it says that the leader has died? is that true? or am I reading it wrong
Yes the original founder already died
I don't think he's the co-founder🤔 I think ||Zhu Youzheng(if I remember the name correctly), dad of the girls, saved him back when he was just a kid, so Xue Chou felt like he owed the debt of life to him – so when there was threat to his life, Xue Chou came to help. Either he was too late, or smth, I'm not sure on that, but the founder died. Xue Chou interpreted his debt as "well, if he's dead, I can't let his life's work go to waste" and took over 9MW, putting up Dao Lord as "founder's son" to make it look like he wasn't just stealing the throne (and, well, he adopted the girls)||
is wwm going to have those stories where its like the mc has a particular goal but then gets kinda sidetracked by a certain area that they help out before continuing on their journey only to continioulsy help out various areas
i havnet played many games but this is sort of the situation in genshin and wuwa. for example, genshins goal is for mc to find their sibling but ends up getting sidtracked by saving multiple regions without much clue of siblling (how much progress mc has made idk bc i dropped the game 3ish years ago)
i mean i dont mind that much abt wwm going down that route but i did feel like we didnt learn much about aunt hans whereabouts despite being the initial goal. the kaifeng story is quite nice, i just wonder if it will play into bigger picture esp with the little reveal about big zhao
Mostly because it took the whole chapter 2 for the MC to get to meet "Wen Wuque", and even then the MC was told to wait 2 3 months to get new clues lol
Also got to know a little about her past in the final jianghu legacy chapter too
In genshin, MC met his sibling and got told to "experience the Teyvat" about a year and a half into production, while in WWM nobody takes MC seriously enough to answer his questions on the first try, so he has to go on "side-quests"
And at least a few characters said "Idk, but I promise to keep an eye out for them" (like Xue Chou and that retired assassin lady), so it is better than nothing
ohh..i forgot about that tiny detail in genshin! its been so long since ive played and even longer since the time i started
the part about wwm makes sense too
i have trouble remembering quest names and stuff, is this side quests? i think i still need to play those because i heard they also provide some extra lore that the main quest doesnt touch up on
It's the new quest where you have to fight the ink bosses
is it something that came with the new breakthrough? i havent opened the game in a while because i needed storage for antohr game but i might redonwload soon bc i miss wwm a lot 😭😭
Before the new breakthrough
Also, Kaifeng quest is not even that much of a side-quest
MC arrives
"hey, I need to meet this Wen Wuque guy"
Big Zhao: I know a way
they're caught by little Zhao and MC strikes a deal to avoid being legally punished for trespassing into highly important event
everything else from here MC does in attempt to not /die/ from the pill little Zhao gave him
What's the pill from lil Zhao that we consume ?
It was part of early Jan update
hhh ill go check in future , i might have just missed it
"Smth-smth cultivation will break in 7 days, if you don't take antidote and I'm not giving you antidote if you don't find the basin"
It's the final Jianghu legacy quest
OHHH ITS THIS THING yea i havent finished all of these, ill make sure to check it out again! because i dont keep track of these, theres a chance i probably rushed some of them. i think i just stumble upon some of them without rly knowing what it is and therefore skipping through? it has summary though right?
I'm 80% sure it was fake
It was serious enough to give YM motivation to work hard and fast, so what's the difference, really?
Yeah I suppose lol
You can also rewind some of them, or rewatvh on YouTube if you're confused
okkk ty all
Its nothing
Everything was planned out to take down lord Shi
Little Zhao is on our side
Spoilers
He'll be in our quest when the next region opens
HELL YEAH we're seeing zhao guangyi soon
Bujianshan? Or hexi?
I remember we meet him on Bujianshan
Wasnt hexi gonna be released before bujianshan
Im not sure
Yes, hexi is before bujianshan
Does the mysterious woman in bamboo hat on ch 3 is our ||presume sister||??
damn finally got no hit bounty but its only 1 objective. them whale be penny pinching nowadays
Does anyone know anything about this boss? It’s a CN server one, wondering if anybody has any information. Literally my favorite boss in the entire game
Hi, what is the answer of the quiz:
Who's the suspect in the Ghost Bride case in Kaifeng?
everyone
This boss will be in the next area
That’s awesome! I saw a roadmap for the game saying the next area will be here in February. Is that true you think?
Which roadmap?
I’ll send an image of the roadmap
Ok im sorry, but I can’t find the roadmap. If I remember correctly, it said Hexi will be here in February 2026 though 🎉
It's okay! Some ppl said in question that Hexi will be available next season, which is 2/6
idt theres an official road map for when Global would expect Hexi, just speculation that Most Likely it would arrive in Feb.
Same all quests finished in jianghu except the encounter ones
Complete everything
We have a sister?
and i believe its also to protect ym they cant make it too obvious since they recognised who ym is
which one? i know there's a character that's almost like a parallel to us
Hexi: 五残 (Wucan) boss design meaning
||In the story, the boss is given two close-up faces: one is a eunuch-like ghost face, referring to Eunuch Zhong, and the other is a female ghost face, pointing to Zhang Huaiyue. The bird wings on Wu Can represent assassins and the Wu Guard operating behind the scenes.
During the fight, players will notice that although Wu Can is a single garrison boss, it has two HP bars: “天听(Heaven’s Hearing)” and “地祸(Earth’s Calamity).” This reflects how Zhang the Younger General’s death had many causes, but to the people of Hexi and outsiders, only two were visible on the surface:
• 天听 → the Tang court’s death decree
• 地祸 → Zhang Huaiyue’s internal power seizure
The assassins of the Wu Guard and Minister Suo’s betrayal are hidden causes, not openly seen.
The most subtle detail is Minister Suo himself. He appears as an individual character, not an abstract symbol. At first, he is portrayed as Zhang’s close friend and protector—even shortly before the incident. Yet at the final moment, he delivers the decisive betrayal. In the boss fight, he appears in a form resembling an ally, only to suddenly strike the player—mirroring how he stabbed Zhang in the back while posing as a friend.
(So when players see him appear during the fight, don’t be moved too quickly—this is someone the story already makes clear betrayed Zhang and joined those responsible for his death. Such a person was never truly an “ally.”)
Who was truly responsible for the Zhang Huaishen’s death? the “五残(Five Remnants)” that killed him may never have been a single person, but rather the eunuchs, foreign enemies, the court, friends and kin, and the era itself. ||
xiao shi and shen yu are so cute my teeth are about to rot
god i feel like such a third wheel on this quest
The one Li Zuo's pick up
ahhhh then what I was thinking is right. Nothing is sure for now (mc's identity and stuff)||, but the girl has a very similar past like us (both getting picked up by someone else). The difference is that mc grew up with a lot of love from uncle jiang and aunt han while the other girl is emotionally suppressed in a way (li zuo sucks in handling the emotional side you can say (there are other side characters that also picked up children and they grew up whole), tho there are speculations on what caused him like that)||
Err idk if it's count as our sister or not, but she is also baby from the zhongdu bridge war
Genshin Impact story?
Ohh, someone said the girl is similar to Liu Qingyi
mhm, as the girl grew up she looked even more alike liu qingyi ||(who is lizuo's lover), so it could be that lizuo wants to prevent himself from being inappropriate and hurt the girl, thats the most popular statement||
Revarly hall are the base of velvet shade or not?
And i thought yingying is part/leader of velvet shade bc she there like their leader
first one is a yes, second is a no, yingying is just working with the velvet shade
the entire velvet shade area in Kaifeng is their base.
She even has the jade too! So, the paper doll she makes it because she is lonely right? And she want to get Li Zuo attention iirc
I watch wwm cn gameplay on yt. It's hard to search for gameplays that not either skip or fast forward the scenes
I came across the Hexi song after the ch 3 end, so that's why I watch cn gameplay alongside to satisfy my curiousity 🤣
i've been spoiled bits here and there but i can't stop watching is hooking me up
those paper dolls are her friends she's a poor girl too ||esp after she met mc she saw how mc was talking about uncle jiang and aunt han🥹 mc is really lucky. Void King was also raised by liuqingyi but after lizhuo took over him... look at him now||
So I never done lot of encounters and some have lore in it.
Am I seeing this correctly Our step farther killed his own adopted father?
Same!
Aww... I pity her, but I do wonder if we were switched, will we be like her
And just know that aureate pavilion's goal is to restore tang
MC calls him uncle jiang, so.. kinda like a step father.. and kinda like an uncle... and ||Jiang Yan didn't kill Wang Qing in the normal sense.. he killed the zombified version of Wang Qing||
Ahhh makes more sense, you'd think they would make that more noticeable in that mission then...
The General was killed by different ones.
Then he was "resurrected" as a zombie by the bug (same bug that the emperor ai used on void king at the beginning of the game)
Uncle Jiang has to kill the zombie general.
I think he purposely let himself become a dream puppet
I believe mc is also a nice person in heart just like the girl, mc was quite mischievious since mc grew up in a loving environment ||the girl's personality didn't develop in an extreme way in her environment is thanks to her gentle nature where we can see details of these in the story||
yep, he ran was tricked to deliver the box that turned him into a dream puppet, but the general chose to sacrifice himself to protect uncle jiang
Wow
I wonder what happened to mc real parents
Whats the deal with Night Asura?
I guess most of us are wondering the same at some point
For now , Yi dao is a father figure NGL
sigh... well....
gotta wait for the story to go on, one day we will know
Most likely they are the Tang Emperor son
why do twin lions hate me
Chinese
Wrong. He killed Wang Qing with his subconscious mind still aware.
"subconscious mind still aware"?
Yes. I have to say that so I can say that to be able to say that.
So when is the uncle coming back to the story
Can someone explain to me why the River Master fought us? I thought he was the informant?
What were we actually trying to accomplish on this mission?
He wanted to have an audience with lil zhao who was lurking during the whole thing, so by fighting us the river master lured him out is what i understood
He tells you. He is a fisherman and he needs bait for a big catch.
He leaks information through Zhang Cuo(who is working under the Song court) as to the return of the River Master.
He also purposefully lets rumors that the River Master is going to collaborate with the Khitan to alarm the Song court, to get the attention of the Emperor and his brother.
With the barge he is trying to fish out of the river he holds an important piece for the legitimacy of the Emperor, which he can give to the Khitan in the north to empower them with political power.
You, as the player, are just an intermediary. The Song has sent you as an agent and he is using you to get the attention of Little Zhao by making a big fuss
In short, he is making a theather play with you so he can get to Zhao directly and away from the walls of Kaifeng. (That is why he also has some dance inspired moves, to amp up his performance so people notice. Also because he is built different)
Damn so he was basically playing with us like Tian Ying
We truly are a frog in the well
Why did he want to see Lil Zhao?
He suspected the song court got sthing to do with his wife’s death
Zhu Yu? I thought it was a one sided romance
Nah bro, zhu yu is his wife
Feng ruzhi is their biological kid
While zhang cou and zheng e are adopted
Thanks guys
The story is so good but its so obscure
I like how everything connects somehow
Feng Yi wasn't househusbanding with three kids out there for you to think it's one-sided
I didnt even know he had children, I was so lost in that campaign
That entire campaign was the most confusing of all campaigns tbh
True, nothing in the campaign indicates that Zhang Cuo (y'now, the guy that pointed YM in the direction of this quest) is Feng Yi's adopted son, and Feng Ruzhi is his daughter
I initially thought Big Zhao and Zhu Yu had something going on since he made a building dedicated for her
Turns out it was just pure admiration
The story is divided in campaigns, letters in the overworld and even side quests.
For example the little girl in the ruins of the Zhang estate finds out how Zhang Cuo escaped the massacre of his family
Zhu Yu is very much a national hero to the region with how she is involved with every heroic act in the last 15 years
I think it was a way to show her his gratitude for establishing Medical Academy
Yeah it just hit me she was the red robed warrior in the gold leaf questline
Was the remains in the dragon temple her?
Highly recommend his journal entry as starting point for this family's lore, it's on the funnier side
Yes, that is why Yi cracks his mask in a similar manner
Man i actually forgot this feature
Thanks for reminding me
Also, don't forget about compendium – 3/5 family members have boss entries
The only actual mystery still remaining is what did Little Zhao tell to Feng Yi and how much guilty the Zhao brothers are to her death
And their collectibles, boy oh boy, do devs love putting lore in the collectibles
From circumstantial evidence it is more likely the city had just too much too handle to respond to her pleas and Big Zhao was forced to let her die so that he could stop a civil war
I thought soulslike storytelling was esoteric enough
This game takes it a whole step further lmao
It is not really esoteric when you have compedium entries. People just forget to read about it.
Also they dont do side content
Don't forget the translation mistakes and [non-transferable Chinese terms] making it ever "easier" to understand
Honestly, I dont understand jackshit of CHinese and have very cursory knowledge on the period and still get 95% of waht is going on.
Sure some dialog is convoluted and dont get the idiom, but you get the idea
Welp majority of gamers hate reading
Yeah, the base of the story is pretty clear, but then there comes something like Feng Ruzhi suddenly turning male in the compendium entry, and you're left scratching your head. The details/mistakes are minor, but they make it frustrating to dig deeper
Take a shot every time I bring up Feng Ruzhi example, ikr
This, this is so true
THe only quest that is legit terrible in translation is the Headman quest
Not to mention cultural things like the "mothers give jade pendants to children for protection" thing that was brought up here a few days ago and are never even mentioned in-game
Yeah, "just" the quest that has major Jiang Yan lore, not a biggie
I mean, even without knowing its a cultural tradition, families giving keepsakes to children is not unheard of
Oh yeah, not saying its not imporant. Just that the one is legit terrible and bad. Other times its just too flowery, but still understandable
Was this the guy who left heads in the dilapidated shack?
Not unheard of, but the perspective on starting cutscene shifts, depending on your understanding of Jade pendant
One thing to see ||uncle Jiang|| taking the pendant with basically YM's ID, and the other is taking their sign of protection from evil
This guy (I don't remember the start of that quest)
Yeah that guy left heads in the starting area haha
I was also confused but a signpost saved the day
I think it being our ID is the most important part of the deal
Right, but it seems like for people who know of this tradition the situation reads as grey-ish (especially considering the amount of trouble that immediately got dumped on YM's head, as if some protection was removed, wink-wink nudge-nudge), while for those who don't know it reads as "annoying but he's protecting us"
Anyways, we're having the argument about half-empty/half-full, we should probably stop
On a unrelated note but slightly related, I hate how Qianye is hyped as this really powerful enemy when she got pushed around and needed 100 minions to do the job for her
She is a certified bum
I mean, for a 16y/o father-when-can-I-see-the-world YM Qianye is a considerable threat, but yeah, sending someone her level againg Han Xiangxun herself was dumb on Pavillion's part
Give me liberty, give me death
Only send me against non threats
I bet she asked for this because she has her brothers liver
It really seems very personal for Qianye, while Aunt Han barely recognized her
It took only Yi Dao, a barely adolescent guy and 3 armed randos to basically put a halt to her and an army.
I bet if Master Gongsun was also there she would be wiped
Aureate pavillion really needs to put more budget in their talent seeking, because they are made out of bums
"For me, it was a tuesday"
"We went to school together"
You know what the Pavillion needs?
The monkeys from Sekiro. A short scouting trip to the north of Japan
And China is theirs
I mean, lord Shi was reasonably leveled against politics... too bad they didn't account for said politicians ropping in a 16 y/o with little to no self-preservation and "sword to the face" as primary communication method
But for Qianye it almost like someone wanted to get rid of her annoying ahh in the office/HQ
Unga bunga is truly the best of way of relaying information and intent
HR wanted to avoid paying severance package
well tbf even when half exhausted we are able to send her flying with just pure rage and like 3 sword swings so ye
They did not want to pay her insurance premiums since she has a preexisting condition

honk honk!
Lol
🤣

honk honk
Lol demon geese gonna beat the sit out of ghost master

Its not as superstitious as that, the other guy imo made it seem like a bigger deal than it is
In his example, the “ward off evil” is more akin to giving someone a good luck charm. Cultural significance wise its more noteworthy that for jade its often meant to be carried long tern so that “cultivate and grow” the jade — something like good deeds and a kind heart etc will make the jade more pure and beautiful, whereas the opposite makes it look undesirable
that being said I’m pretty sure the individual in the beginning cutscene is Jiang (eyebrows and eyes are very telling) and he’s not trying to screw over the MC lol
In fact depending on who is giving you the jade, it can have different meanings as well (i.e. symbol of trust, romance, etc)
We didnt halt her tho. You and @honest rain are underestimating Qianye
she did her job, which was to flip the place upside down and look for the nameless list, and left. We didn’t stop them from doing anything.
I see🤔🤔🤔
Thanks for clarifying!
Yeah, for me it's rather a haha joke. Qianye is admittedly scary lore-wise, but within the game she's forever going to suffer from being Chapter 1 boss, bc each next threat would be written to one-up previous ones (not necessarily to build on e/o, but as YM gets stronger, the devs are going to throw bigger dangers at them)
That’s fair haha, I have to remind myself all we really did was just fight her illusion that she used to distract us
I heard apparently Qianye’s back in most recent chapters of CN story — or upcoming. So kind of curious how that’ll unravel
True-true, no body – no confirmed death
Imagine Qianye returning in Ch7+ and going for revenge specifically against YM, bc they dare stand in her way all the way back in Ch1, that'd be a tasty callback, and she'll be able to show off her full strength
Trying to steal YM's strong, young & healthy liver... hopefully she can get them before Raging Tides😂
I do hope we can do undercover mission in aureate pavilion base to meet big boss and not fight him🤣
Aureate Pavillion is CLEARLY after Aunt Han/Uncle Jiang/their whole operation, and YM is their known adopted son. To avoid their pursuit at low levels, it's safer to be legally dead
You are the prime target for them due to your knowledge of the faceless, knowing Xiangxun and having the jade pendant
Wasted life for a cause and emperor taht went nowhere
Tian qi?
Tian Ying is not tragic as a person. Mostly its his group and Chai Rong that is, maybe not tragic, but wasted
I see
He is one ruthless mofo
Tian Ying is hard on everyone around and on himself
Tian Ying could’ve been more handsome
I guess he was probably down there waiting for a 16 year old for quite a while
No need to shave when you're wearing mask 24/7. Efficient king
Bit weird honestly
Didnt expect to get to 3rd phase ig
tian ying is like mid-late 30s probably
but also i said it before but hes not waiting for us
he expected aureate pavilion
Tell it to Chris Hansen
Aureate pavilion is hunting tian ying + han xiangxun + jiang due to involvement with hanging blade and other plots that are concerning the southern tang and khitans
Might be all the way to early 40s, I think he's quite older than Jiang Yan, and he's like 35y/o at the start of the plot
Don’t spoil too much for me, obviously I’m here knowingly but still
If there are like CN things
A wanted man in more ways than one😂
NBC’s to catch a predator
iirc li zhen zhen also not that young
you can go back and retrace the questline with the horse from that village
since that was how long ago the khitan envoy assassination was
then add at least another decade, i forget the exact number of years
My guess is that she's about same age as Jiang Yan🤔
and jiang yan is about 35~36 or so iirc
cuz MC is 16, and i think jiangyan was maybe 19ish when he picked up MC
Damn, imagine becoming adoptive dad at ~19
this would kinda make sense cuz that’d put tian ying at around maybe 14-16ish when he saved lizhenzhen
and lizhenzhen prob like 10-12ish
Jiang yan has significantly better skin
cuz she was supposed to be a ghost bride
Benefits of alliance with Water Lady and Ferryman
Ig
jiangyan prob also has much more relaxing life than tian ying lol
That’s the real tragedy 😔
And apparently parenting is much less stressful than spy shenanigans
at least jiangyan got to enjoy retreat from jianghu until 3 years ago from current time
when he got called to save tian ying
I mean that begs the question
If we were adopted by Tian Ying
Would he have clearer skin
Apparently, YM was a sound sleeper as a baby, so at least a few wrinkles less
Now I understand this is a lore chat
But where in dark surges does it mention YM’s sleeping habits
Uncle skill diff
yeah it was in one of the entries lol, and the adoptees were yaoyaoyao and the other guy who left after remembering his past in ch1
Huh, interesting
I think the other's name was Doudou or Duoduo, my eyes can't be trusted when it comes to order of letters
Or he was just lying to one-up doc
Yeah youre right Dou doudou
Man does he love a good repetition in names
Did he really call his kids "pills" and "physical activity"
So I have a question, I got a pic of a quest sent in by a friend of mine and I want to do the quest but idk which one it is
Just dm me if you want to help
if i remembered correctly the kids were pretty weak when he found them, so he wanted to give them good names so that they can grow up safely and also matching their personality
I understand, but also Did he Just Look at prescriptions for patients and copied to kids' documents? This man is hilarious.
he pretty much studied medicine for his whole life, can't blame him tbh, but his kids grew up safe and sound
Irl back in these days parents often gave their kids an ugly name if they wanted them to have good life, because they believed a beautiful name can attract the demons.
I think it's more likely that Dr.Tian is lowkey silly like that
Li Zuo has found immortality?
lol I won't be surprised... it doesn't help that he is right in front of the cat
It's a shame that 吱吱 wasn't localized into Zhi Zhi... which would have sounded cuter for the cat (a squeaking cat?)
But if it were Zhi Zhi, the squeaking meaning would be lost on English speakers
back in the days they take names very seriously so its not essentially like an ugly or beautiful name category. parents often put what they hope their children will become in the future into their names, and some of them would go for divination for a name that will become a blessing
One of my friends' name is 带弟, which sounds unusual for a female (or anybody really), and it literally translates as "bring little brother" , and though she didn't tell me, it seemed quite obvious that the parents, after having 3 daughters, would like the next one to be a son..
every default man having the same scar as the MC makes me crazy 😠
My parents already prepared a very manly name for me before I was born (they said that it was an emperor's name). They really want a son because my father is the only alive male member of his family, and I also have 3 sisters.
Then boom, I'm still a girl.
Thanks to them that they thought about another name and gave me a female name instead of putting the male name on me.
I have a female colleague whose name was literally mean "a man".
unfortunately thats quite a common scenario particularly for our parents and above generations, since they have a stigma of boys > girls... tho some of those who were named like that also went to change their names as they grew up
just did rivermaster quest but im super confused how we got roped into it, why we helped, and why we ended up fighting the guy at the end. We just talked to some random stranger, met up with the fisherman that took us to Kaifeng, invaded some place, and i fought the guy i helped invade the place in the end
Not a single thought behind those eyes 🥀
He’s not random guy, you’ve probably missed alot
Damn it. I don’t even know what side quests I’m missing
Someone explained it a little, you can read the messages from there to get more context
It’s not side quest, but little clues like anecdote copendiums antiqurs that you have to collect to have a bigger understanding of the river master arc
But the random guy not being random means there’s a place i should’ve seen him prior right?
Or did u just mean that as in he’s not an insignificant character in this quest
im crine
Yeah he’s master of kaifeng west suburbs i thik
He leads a gang there
I cant remember where but the anecdotes of that place tell you who zhang cou is
The boat man if Feng Yi
Husband of Zhu Yu
He is also the current river master and the dragon king he rides into battle is Zhu Yu herself which we kill TWICE if you do the quest "River's Fury" and Heavenfall campaign
in the campaign his name is displayed as Er Ma
And there’s also his lore in thr zhang manor outpost
No, river’s fury is a different fish
That’s zhu yu’s pet fish but she died so no one was around to end the fish’s misery
I thought it was the same fish
A'Yu
Fish we fought was feng yi’s
Each river master has a different fish
Zhu yu was the last one and after she died feng yi became the current
actually, it's not a bad name.
The man in black that killed zhu yu during the flood is highly likely under orders or is lil zhao in my opinion
I kinda understand how a lot of these Kaifeng bosses are people who were wronged by the song dynasty, but that kind of confuses my perception of our characters role in the conflict. I’m assuming we aren’t taking any side because we’re just a wanderer, but wouldn’t this make Big Zhao an antagonist to all of these people including the Ember of the East?
Not really, they are all manipulated by shimmer of the south to act against song
But im 90% sure if song did them dirty, it was lil zhao’s plans
yeah lil zhao
we arent taking any sides
this game is about fighting for the common good
little zhao is under big zhao's control
If you play the omens quest you can see that lil zhao is willing to dirty his hands because big zhao is too merciful
He's the emperor thats why he needs that reputation for later on when the lore expands
Well we cna call it propaganda but considering how lil zhao took the throne later according to history, it's not that weird that he has acted many times behind his brother's back lol
mhm
talking about little zhao
in his other clothing than the imperial judge uniform
pretty smashable
And how many people just died offscreen after lil zhao visit or gifted them stuff
how do you know ppl died offscreen due to him only
Yea that’s why I said we’re not taking sides as a wanderer and we pretty much go towards what we feel the more correct decision is
The relationship between key characters just confused me.
Like take the Kaifeng bosses I mentioned. They were all pretty much wronged by the Song Dynasty and kind of made a united attempt to push back their future military plans by a collective effort more or less organized by the Ember of the East.
But during the main story, Big Zhao, someone kind of represented as a good person pursuing stability of the people under him as the emperor, is working with people like the EoE even tho they aren’t really on the same side when we dive deeper into the peripheral bosses.
So that makes me wonder why even help the main story crisis if you really aren’t on the same side at the end of the day. Like is their ideal outcome the fall of the Song Dynasty, or simply preventing their military action
People just die according to mysterious circumstances when emperor lil zhao was involved so yeah, he's sus no matter what the truth is
MC was "fed" poison so he's ofc on the side of the song court
the bosses doesnt confuse me but the zhao brothers do
big zhao even more because we dont know his plans as the emperor, and that at the end of the universal furnace quest we know that the government have implemented paper money
And the tang confiscation policy is not big zhao's idea, it's lil zhao's
Big zhao was skeptical about it so he went into disguse as a peasant to see the lives of the commoner under that policy
yea so thats confusing if they're on the same boat why does it tend to go different directions
Unifying China is their goal, it's not surprising big zhao agreed to the policy
Just not 100% so he went to see for himself
Hands up if you assume a’yu was zhu yu, not the dragon fish.
I met ayu the fish first before zhu yu so never had that trouble lol
The original plan was to incite a revolt to halt the military invasion against southern tang, but ember of the east had a change of heart because the people was suffering so much. And with us killing lord shi, she convinced big zhao to open the treasury, which in the end delayed the invasion still so it was an acceptable outcome for the simmer of the south
