I only started playing today, but I heard the main story of this game really engaging and gets you emotionally invested in the twists and turns.

So far, I'm enjoying the Soulslite mechanics, combat, and exploration. Though I'm miffed by other mechanics and some of the tutorials and menus, but... I don't feel I have the right to complain yet since I'm only a first-day player.

Oh, and the AI chatbot thing. Kinda feels like an idea that seemed fun on paper but wasn't implemented in a way which truly enhanced the game.

...I'm still stuck on that loach-digging boy's friendship. I keep getting stuck in loops of showing him Tai Chi. 😒

For example, in Blissful Retreat, Young Master in Chinese would be 少东家

But elsewhere, strangers who do not know the MC would address him/her as 少侠

but in both cases, the term of address in the English sub would be Young Master.

These are the subtleties that would be lost in translation

But outside of Blissful Retreat, it would be strange for strangers to address the mc as Young Master...especially if they haven't seen the MC do any moves in combat.. or perform any feats

just one of all 10 dishes but encounter quests are finicky to trigger. there's a cooldown of 30min between encounters you can trigger so you have to wait then buy and eat all the food again.

and if you have 2 existing encounters, finish them or at least one since you can only have 2 at a time.

so ye wanshan retreated with his soldiers back to another village and waited for the court to order military action to retake the north so he could get revenge and also reclaim that city

with chai rong they were supposed to finally go up north and take it back, but the plan got delayed and eventually cancelled for now because of chai rong’s death and the “south first, north after” plan

so ye wanshan had his troops disguise themselves as khitan and slaughtered the village they were at, to make it see like khitans invaded and force the court to order a counter attack

Jiangnan isn't a country. It is a region whose borders change over time, depending on the government and what they think is Jiangnan.

Jiangnan in Chinese is 江南.

江 = River

南 = South

So Jiangnan usually represents a geographical concept of the lands that are south of the Yangtze river (长江 or 扬子江）

During the Tang Dynasty (the dynasty that Li Zuo was the last Emperor of), Jiangnan was the name of an administrative subdivision called 江南道 or Jiangnan Circuit

During the Song Dynasty (Big Zhao's dynasty, though that's after Song conquered the south) they changed it to 江南路 or Jiangnan Route

but in this case right now jiangnan does refer to an area under the rule of a figure

It was Southern Tang but the then southern tang emperor gave up his title and became “king of Jiangnan” after losing to chai rong

Later Zhou correspondence called Li Jing the "King of Jiangnan" (江南國主)

Li Yu created a more modest "Seal of Jiangnan" (江南國印) and abandoned "Ruler of Tang" in favor of "Ruler of the State of Jiangnan"

Actually he did not. Later Zhou refered to them as the king of Jiangnan, but internally they still refered to themselves as Tang.

It was Li Yu, the Shimmer of the South, that made the transition to Jiangnan nomenclature

From the perspective of the Later Zhou and then Song, they have never wanted to address Li Jing and Li Yu's territory as Tang (Southern Tang) because that would mean that they acknowledge and accept the Li family's Tang legacy.

Later Zhou and Song would always deny Southern Tang's claim to being Tang's remnants

So from the northern perspective, Southern Tang had been Jiangnan

Which makes sense since that was the old administrative names of the region which most people during the time was used to.

But Southern Tang wouldn't refer to themselves as the Empire of Jiangnan or Kingdom of Jiangnan, until much later, and by that time, it was more like succumbing to the pressure from Song, than actually willingly changing the name of the polity as Jiangnan

So if you asked Chai Rong, he would call Southern Tang the land of Jiangnan.. but if you asked Li Jing, he would call his land the Tang

Li Yu, after his father Li Jing's death, succumbed to Song pressure and gave up his Tang titles and called himself the Ruler of Jiangnan

This doesn't necessarily mean that Jiangnan was a country. For most of Southern Tang's history, it called itself Tang and remained that way. Jiangnan was not the official name it gave itself. Later Zhou and Song calls them Jiangnan but that doesn't mean that Southern Tang accepts that label. The official polity was Tang

It did exist as a vassal state under Song later on, but by that time, I don't think Li Yu's lands have much sovereignty any more...

You could hardly call it a country by then, I think.

Me too. I was streaming the game with my friend and because she is a history buff and also a native of the area around Southern Tang, she was helping me with a lot of the local lore and customs that she saw in the game

I can see why this game is so popular in China right now, and has so many millions of players. It touches on a part of Chinese history that isn't often used as a setting in games because many game studios focus on the Three Kingdoms period.

Haha I remember we were looking at the map, and she saw Qinghe, and she was so excited that the game features this area.

It's a very popular and well-known area in China

Is the in game building grand canal also the current grand canal in china?

If i'm not wrong, it generally refers to the same grand canal that is often used by various dynasties to transport grain and goods between north and south china. but the actual geographic location and how it looks varies across the thousands of years of repair, expansion, or it changes when the yellow river changes its course.

But I could be wrong. Because Kaifeng isn't near to northsouth axis of the main route of the grand canal.

If you're asking about this area, and what they are digging, then no, this is not the grand canal

In this area, they are reworking the area where the ancient Honggou (grand gap) used to be

The Honggou 鸿沟 was also an artificial canal, not a natural river.

Oh I see the confusion now. I switched to English text and saw that they used the words "Grand Canal" to describe the Honggou...

@sudden shard the grand canal you're thinking of, is not this one. This is a more ancient canal that existed even during the Spring and Autumn Warring States era of China.

You can see that in the Chinese version, they are actually talking about the Honggou 鸿沟, which is pretty grand... and is a canal.. so.... i guess they just decided to call it the Grand Canal.. but not the Grand Canal further east that was more popular.
