The game setting spans quite a long historical period, crosses several dynasties (maybe even time-travels back to previous dynasties via dreaming/ recalling . It’s kinda impossible to learn it in systemic approaches if u r not doing it as textbook style learning. My suggestion would be just search the specific historical figure / event popped up in the game (and u have a particular interest on), on YouTube, and generally these small stories / figures connect to each other.

For example it’s because this game I get to know Tian Ying, a real assassin in the history. Then start looking for YT vids related to this figure. And find him more attractive

So he tricked He Ran into obtaining a Box that will give them Victory. He Ran ever the loyal scout went and retrieved said box. The box only contained poison that will turn you into Dream Puppets.

When He Ran and Jiang Yan arrived at the scene the general already died once and was already a Dream Puppet. Thus He Ran witnessed Jiang Yan committing patricide and causing the second death of the general.
