yi dao (killerblade) came to find aunt han because aunt han's lover had asked to deliver his final words to her

How strong is uncle Jiang?

That’s still quite unknown, his adoptive father was General Wang Qing who was known as a high-tier swordsman who trained Jiang. All we really know is that he had some ties to Emperor Ai and was seen as a massive danger in the Jianghu. In the prologue we do see him easily fend off multiple well trained soldiers while also carrying and defending a child (The Player). We can only assume he’s holding back in the prologue in order to not hurt the child, but we can see that even while (assumably) holding back, he clashed pretty hard against the Void King who, in his own custscene, stated that if he were to acquire one more head, he’d become the martial king again. What that title is or means is kind of up for debate.

However, what we do know is that after General Wang Qing trained Jiang Yan in swordplay, Jiang Yan goes to create the Nameless Sword martial art. Through some character interactions we can see that they are surprised and noticed we knew or used a technique similar to the Nameless Blade. It’s clear this martial art is renowned/feared in the Jianghu. Jiang Yan also presumably knows every mystic art the player can learn (possibly more).

All of this was to say that he’s gotta be pretty strong, but we don’t know much about how he stacks up against other upper class characters in the Jianghu. We can only assume it’s high due to strong martial artists notice that we also use the Nameless Sword technique, and in order for them to recognize it at a glance, Jiang Yan would have to be pretty memorable as a fighter since we can assume that he and the protagonist are the only current users of the Nameless Sword.

Historical context explained in my video. Basically Wang Qing was fighting the Khitans at the battle of Zhong Du Qiao. They were losing the battle. He had to turn into a dream puppet to gain strength (but they lost in the end all the same)

Aight I went down a rabbit hole looking it up, and a lot of the data is on women since marriage is more important in a girls life back then. Legally girls in late tang can marry at 14, but the average age of marriage is around 17 and in times of turmoil around 20. (As recording in their obituaries) Men’s data is a lot more rare but they averaged around 24.5. that being said, men’s entry into adulthood is tied to getting into a career while women’s at the time is tied to marriage, and tang taxation law set ‘adult men’ as age 21 to 50, when they are legally supposed to pay taxes, be able to buy land, etc. (land grant/ pension documents actually states 18 yr old men as adolescents, they can get the pension of a full man but not the land grant). So even though guys can get married in their teens they aren’t adults. I’m speculating this might be because girls marry out of their family at 15, but men don’t get the means to start something of their own until 20.

In song dynasty, girls get their coming of age at 15 (we have a record of a princess doing hers at 15), and the average age of marriage for is also 15-16, with a 8 year difference between the girl and her husband. It’s really hard to find any journal source of male coming of age in the song dynasty 😅 links just forward me to songs and music in men coming of age
