Sorry, I unintentionally accomplished sleeping when I took a break and woke up like 20m ago oujnjgmggggg. I must consume copious amounts of food before I get back on but then I can look at it
alr properly tested now:
Particles left at 500: still causes immediate -9000 fps on splurge
Particles reduced to 100: still a major lag spike, but stabilized within about 6s (before i got crunched again cause godmode yahee)
Particles reduced to 25: somehow... it still lags noticeably. But stabilized a lot quicker (about 3s and stuttering isn't anywhere near as bad as above)
Particles reduced to 0: No lag whatsoever on death.
In short: it does appear the particles are the problem, 500 does seem like a lot by default so I'd just naturally decrease that but I'm not sure why even a tiny amount still lags the game, that I can't really suggest anything for since I've never seen an issue like that still happening with minimal particles

Use Central Config
that doesn't have anywhere near as much config as LQ
It works though
and also ignores all scrap multiplier rules and defaults to 0.4x
simply not worth it
It uses the same multiplier rules as WR if you're talking about configuring weather stuff

No, it always defaults to 0.4x multiplier. I literally edited its own mult config and it still went to 0.4x
i know it was central, cause the logs showed central was setting it to that
even if it didn't it doesn't have several features LQ has so it's already at a major disadvantage

will check it out once it's available in Gale. Also, I noticed that the cabinet doesn't appear as a valid enemy in LethalQuantities, so I want to ask if it spawns only indoors? That's about all I really care about spawn-wise since I prefer it that way (also what's its power level and max spawn count? I have to count the amount up from all the enemies when testing to make sure it's spawning a proper amount)

Awful* overrides other mods configs at times, lacks several features LQ easily beats it with and its own scrap multiplier that they coded to forcefully apply over any other mod, doesn't even work when you change the value. No thanks.
Didn't say it wasn't, just that LQ was rendering the wrong name so I initially thought cabinet wasn't registering since some enemy mods don't work with it

With the bracken and others its at least a bit more manageable, cabinet gets angry quick and is far more dangerous tbh

pestering is a troll mechanic anyway, so I don't see why this should be changed
if it target the nearest player, that must be what the mod intend to do
afaik pester just does whatever hitting the enemy with a shovel would do

Cabinet has definitely become one of my favorites, was playing some solo on Liminal House yesterday and suddenly the Cabinet was just behind me. Same happened later in Vehicle Hangar. Really fun to play around it and randomly get the "i'm behind you" jumpscare.

Vanilla does this with Maneater in the mineshaft interior and Butterybalance does this with Butler in the manor interior.

The Cabinet is absolutely terrifying. I have one suggestion: use the Sapsucker's player death animation for the player whenever the player dies to the cabinet
Or perhaps the head explode from the Ghost Girl
It spewing out some body parts would be horrifying
although how it is by default is already horrifying

@harsh tendon i am using the same thing zeekers does with the maneater which is giving the interior ID to which i want increase chance. probleme with that is that modded interior dont have a non-changing ID

honestly i find myself in more situations it needs to be killed than kept alive
and i like that because it counteracts the potential strength of it
especially depending on how you set up its weight cap
like its genuinely hard to use the cabinet as a tool
I decided to check out this mod for myself per Purpleโs recommendation, and I like this monster a lot. I like monsters that offer new mechanics (not just being repeats of other monsters), while also not being overbearing/annoying, and I think this monster fits the bill. Reverse weeping angles are a fun archetype, and the scrap carrying mechanic is the sort of goofy interaction a lot of vanilla monster have. Very well done, I think I will add this to my modpack!
I have only noticed one small issue for far. Its walking animation while following a player is too slow, so it slides around. That is all though, keep up the great work!

the cabinet was standing on the topmost doorway, and because I was heading that direction I looked at it for too long and it aggoe'd onto me
I jumped to the bottom left tile in the diagram to avoid the enemy, since it has an overhang with no navmesh on it
cabinet pathed to the closest possible spot to where I was (which was on the room next to me) and killed me through the wall

thumpers are also not a good combination as the game basically forces you to kill them
in my 3k+ hours, ive barely ever been able to successfully stealth a thumper
and stuns arent really a good option either cause that will also piss off the cabinet

don't be anti-fun, you should let the player decide how they want to engage with your content

you can lean towards a certain use for it but like don't make it unkillable lol
game basically forces you to kill them, plus theyre designed to be easy to kill
if you walk into the cabinet while swinging, then it gets mad from that
make it get faster when it's low hp, that'd be a way to encourage keeping it around

Dreg is a super thumper heavy map so I have to sneak around tower like a fucking RAT to live

I use betterstamina but i change the settings to be like vanilla. I just like to use to buff drunk effect and ladder sprint.
if you want to kill a bracken the secret is not holding down S the entire time

its not that we want to
its just the situations we've been in draw us to do so more than not
and thats not really the cabinets fault
its just the fact that hitting it at all causes it to become an instant kill thats decently fast and doesnt stop pursing until you exit the building
this is a problem with at least 3 monsters in the game, two of which are basically forced to be fought
it also makes using a shotgun around it impossible unless youre right at an exit
id say thats more so the fault of those two monsters and how zeekerss made them
zeekerss definitely intends masked to be easy as fuck to kill and thumpers are so hard to consistently stealth around its rare you get a moment you actually could do so without losing whatever youre carrying
when the cabinet is added to that equation, a lot of problems rise
i understand the cabinet has design to help the player, but the key understanding is that its only potential
ive personally seen less situations that leaving the cabinet alive is overall beneficial towards the party
i dont want it changed in any aspect, i like how it is currently, its my favorite vanilla style modded monster ever
but the property of using it for your own benefit is more of a bonus thing
and thats why i havent posted anything of actually being able to use that bonus

i wish there was a single mod that atleast tried to make it so you can stealth past thumpers better, stealth is a fun concept for dealing with an enemy
it would need to alter the standard AI search routine
literally thats all you need to do
make thumpers take longer paths inbetween each time they turn around
automatically way more stealth possibility
alternatively make it stop for a longer period of time each time it reaches its destination, or maybe just shrink its field of view a bunch

I mean I've come to learn they have pretty narrow vision, if you're hiding in a corner they can walk right past you multiple times. But I kind of agree with this. They move around way too much in search phase, making it almost impossible to not get caught

Something should be mentioned in regards to Purple and Alex constantly killing the Cabinet is the Arduous modpacks they play. These are a significant departure from vanilla and their moons are designed to create fast-paced, often combat-oriented scenarios. To reduce rng and keep things snappy, moons in these packs have generally small interiors, with 1.8 size Mineshaft (and Mineshaft is smaller than vanilla there) being the biggest I have seen. In a slower-paced and much larger moon, keeping the Cabinet alive as a loot carrier would be more useful
So far in my experience with the cabinet ive always used its carrying mechanic, especially in solo play, its really fun, I haven't even killed one yet
Though the one time I saw it with friends they kept looking at on accident and we got wiped lmao, it was really fun though
I should mention that even on this experience we kept stacking stuff onto the cabinet to bring back, we were super close to bringing it all back thanks to it as well
Id say its fine.
Leaving it alive means you can use it as a loot carrier, but it can get pissed off if you're careless while fighting other enemies
Or you can kill it instantly to avoid that problem, but you lose the loot carrier and take a risk of instantly dying
about that tho...

LC players are crafty, Zeekerss envisioned the Sapsucker as the most powerful entity in the game yet it only took a week before players were killing it with just a shovel unassisted
I mean it doesn't mean it still isn't
I am just pointing out that making an entity killable in any way is a big deal in this game
tbf thats only possible by exploiting the fuck out of its pathfinding
Cabinet on the other hand, its just killable, flat out
similar way of killing it to the bracken
there is a way to do it without standing in a spot it cant hurt you
it is still technically cheese, but its so hard to actually execute that strategy it might as well just not be cheese
zeekerss for some reason added a small box that when walked into, makes the sapsucker temporarily unable to hurt you from splash damage
i dont know why he did that, it only lets this strategy be possible
but regardless, its the hardest thing you can do with a shovel in this game, and is impossible with any other weapon
another reason this is so hard to do is because you are on a time limit, the sapsucker gets faster the longer its angrily chasing things, and if you miss too many swings, then you will just die from the strafing being offset
you can also mess up your own motion and offset where the sapsucker is in relation to you
and you cant do this on sloped terrain
it literally took me 40 minutes to learn how to do this even remotely properly, and for comparison, every other monster in vanilla so far took me ~5 minutes to learn how to kill
There also, yโknow, are straight-up cheese spots on every moon it spawn on vanilla, with easy and consistent setups
As Purple shows though, if you know what you doing you can straight up 1v1 it too

probably overkill, since they didnt use all of the stun grenades
It was possible to kill a Forest Giant with a shovel by just spacing it properly at the ship door, not sure if it's still possible but if we're talking without that cheese then uhh.. yeah lmao.
It's still possible, just harder since zeeks tried to make them not camp the ship too much

this is the case for all players
they have a "stealth" meter that decreases if youre being visibly seen, decreases less for various circumstances
the meter never goes back up once it hits 0 in vanilla

I thnk Artifice is the most well designed moon in terms of outplaying giants even though if they camp the ship it can still be a pain.
Artifice I think is just one of the best designed moons in the game period
its super replayable, so many paths so much you can do on it
I thought it was a bug, because stealth only decays if a giant is chasing a player.

It just makes me wanna see what kind of moon Zeekers would cook up nowadays since it's been quite some time since the release of Artifice.
Oh also, when a giant is looking at a player, it doesnt just decrease the stealth meter for other players, but allows it to go into the negatives.
Which means it takes longer than usual to chase players

It is very noticeable on higher-stakes moons, you are trying not to dally while transferring and a Giant instantly snipes you without warning. You are supposed to get a little bit of a warning if you had not been recently chased. It is playable but once you play with it fixed it is hard to go back

me when there's 20 billion hiding spots on artifice, you can breeze past them on titan and rend has a safe house you can hide away in with an alt path next to it that they never path to by themselves

The issue is Giants sniping you without warning if they catch a glance of you from across the map. Cover does not have much bearing on that, even if they do not kill you they can slow you down a lot, costing potentially hundreds of credits from a transfer. Having that extra bit of leniency is good for both casuals and sweats

Alright so this is pretty nitpicky, but hear me out. The bestiary for the Cabinet is written by Sigurd, ending with โI wrote this his because it had an entryโ or something to that effect. I feel like that ending line is a bit of circular logic, writing an entry because one already existed, where is the previous entry? Changing it to โI wrote this because it has scan dataโ or whatever else would fix it. Do you see how this has me hung up?

Finally when we got back to the ship i showed them it had a bestiary entry on the computer. also nothing was inside it

@cinder hawk Maybe you should have the sightline trigger box of the cabinet not follow the mesh? Just have it follow the origin point
like jacu said : the area that must not be looked at is parented to the box, and thus when doing animations its sometime enough to enter/exit player view

So I was with friend A and he died to The Cabinet near the main entrance. When Friend B goes inside through the main entrance, he sees scraps floating where Friend A died. I don't see anything there until Friend B picks up the scraps, and I see them in his hand.

I had a similar issue some time ago with a snare flea while exiting the fire exit so idk if it's a specific cabinet issue or just a general item desync.

I think the cabinet's gameplay is suited a lot better to new dine than it is to rend
it opens up for some funky strategy like you either have one person and be able to use the cabinet easily but get fucked up by butlers
or have multiple people moving together which makes you safe from butlers but adds issues with coordinating not looking at the cabinet
the cabinet also works well with the low weight extremely abundant scrap that it could carry a lot of
because of this im considering making the cabinet common on dine instead of rend

rend's values are weird
so right now with dine being 60 it spawns way more then the cabinet on rend at its peak
