all jokes aside almost everything im "unsure about the legitimacy of" winds up in the Extra tab of that config
I was always meaning to ask about this
although some stuff did filter into the other categories because it was kind of a bigger deal
like im absolutely certain zeekerss would patch the dog jump cheese if he was informed about it
given that he already patched the other silent sprint trick that used to work on dogs
and yet there would be riots in the streets if i forced that change on everybody
so it's in the Gameplay config
i think "golden cup" just sounds lame compared to "golden goblet"
and as soon as i saw he literally used the language "golden goblet" to describe a dinner scene in WttDP
i thought "this is justification enough"

it's also somewhat inspired by sciencebird's tweak to rename "big bolt" to "big screw"
i would never claim it's a bug and yet i do think it's a "tweak" that's an "improvement"
so there it is. in Extra
Big Bolt might be incorrect but it sounds better than screw while this is the opposite
oh yeah also i got a fire react from zeekerss when i pitched this as a joke suggestion in the patreon chat
so that doubly re-inforced "i should definitely put that in the next update"

i consider that to also be a "tweak" that's an "improvement" although i'd hesitate to call it a "bug"
i just kinda took that config verbatim and always enabled it lmao
personally it irks me and im more than happy to use a clientside change to make something minor "objectively more correct"
but you would be surprised about the sorts of things people get up in arms about
so it's "just subjective enough" that you can't get away with not adding a config for it
a single word change

well people can argue all they want about the big bolt/screw but the model is objectively a screw
thats fair, it being called a big bolt is just too iconic for me
i just took some screws off my car earlier funnily enough
in this situation i just dont agree but im sure i've used the exact same logic to justify far stupider things
so i find this to be an acceptable answer

well this isnt exactly a bug but like
jetpacks are objectively a balance issue
but i think the jetpack is also the single most fun thing in the entire game and i was very unhappy about the nerfs in v50 beta
the shirts being multiple 2d images placed on eachother is really funny
i framed that criticism a lot more respectfully and constructively than many others at the time, but i won't pretend i was ever "happy" with the nerfs
I never really used the jetpack that well, I always just crashed
and that's definitely an instance of "while i think this objectively presents an issue and i understand zeekerss' desire to fix it, it's so fun and iconic that something major is lost in fixing it"
im honestly not 100% satisfied with the fix we got even
but after the debacle i just dont think it's very productive to rehash the issue
and i guess zeekerss has probably found peace with implementing the cruiser anyway
and ironically enough, the cruiser, after a couple updates, has become even more of a balance issue than the jetpacks ever were
so it really just feels like lethal company has become something now that it wasn't before
and there's no point lamenting forward progress, i suppose
im just happy jetpacks are still fun
the only other time something like this happened
it resulted in one of my favorite entities from the entire game getting dragged into the backyard and shot
so i will take what i can get away with

i thought the manor matched the aesthetic of the first couple item variants and the kitchen was the most iconic manor room at the time

not unless you manually refresh the icon in lethalconfig
but like with any variant, that icon will apply to all versions of the item

I saw no mention of v80 in the changelog
i don't test my mods on anything other than the most recent version
in the case of upturned variety, i feel like chances are "pretty good" 2.3.0 will still work in v73
but i can not give an official guarantee

if you wind up making it work for vanilla objects i lowkey would consider porting to dawnlib (or making a dawnlib version? or changing implementation based on if dawnlib is enabled? idk, something)
just for variants to save between games
but it would probably fix some of my other complaints with the current implementation
like how candy jars still show as pickle jars when collected
etc

i do think using the dawnlib skin system would fix a lot of issues and most people are probably using dawnlib at this point
and especially if it saved vanilla variants i would probably want the upturned variants to save too (i havent bothered only because vanilla doesnt bother, and fixing that in a clientside mod really sucks)
I do see what you mean, and I do plan to have vanilla variants save cuz all it would be is just saving the index in a list or smthn I'd have to check
i would want upturned variety to always be 100% clientside
im under the impression dawnlib has a clientside mode with a more limited feature set? not sure if it supports item skins
but if it doesnt work clientside id probably just need to have some sort of compat toggle where my mod "works as it always has" when dawnlib isn't installed and uses all your API stuff when it is

It's just, it'd only save for you if you're the host since that's who has the save file, is it normal to not be host and play on a save file multiple times without the same mods?

uhh basically im not 100% sure on whatyou mean when you say clientsided
the data is saved on the hosts end incase of lobby reloads, which they can sync to clients if they share the mod
i would like upturned variety to remain fully functional clientside
with its current behavior
im okay with requiring dawnlib for its new feature set
like i dont expect item saving to work in a "purely clientside" mod and im not saying dawnlib should do that
its just, if a host doesnt have the mod, and a client does it, is it supposed to save the variant for the client?
but dawnlib compat either needs to be part of a separate release or needs to be entirely soft compat
so people can use upturned variety without dawnlib for "all the current behavior that is already there" to be the same
im talking more about stuff on my end
