WHY does Blender hang/lag for a second every time I select an object for the first time after opening a file? I'm on 4.4.3 and this doesn't happen on versions before 4.1. I can open the exact same file on a version before 4.1 without lag.

Even if I just have a default cube scene and I move around default tabs Blender hangs for a second on the newer versions. Doesn't matter that I don't carry over preferences from a previous install. No add ons. It hangs and I feel my anger slowly rising every time.

Would recommend! I never played a turn based game like BG3 before to give some context. I usually go for games in the simgenre or fantasy such as Witcher 3, Sims, Hotel Galactic, Don't starve. I love the story of BG3 and that your decisions have consequences. Also you can have different relationships with your companions, which allows for storybuilding on your end too
