the way numbers work on computers is different at times, but generally, people like to use "signed" numbers.
which means you have a regular number, but 1 digit denotes whether it is positive or negative.
imagine 011111111111 as the highest number, with 0 denoting it is positive.
add 1.
now it's the largest/smallest negative number (1000000).
also 11111111+1 = 0000000 and 00000-1 = 1111111(the next bit of information is just lost)
