1440p with SAM enabled its rather significantly faster than the 3080, at 4k with sam enabled its merely on par with the 3080 it seems, going by overall reviews and where things are sitting

RT performance in older titles is about like turing, not as good as ampere. RT performance in new titles made with rdna2 in mind is in line with ampere. dirt 5 with RT on on the 6800XT is faster than with RT off on the 3080, for example

they don't need raytraced GI, they're using one of the best svogi implimentations of any game atm, RTGI would barely look better but run a heck of a lot worse

RT reflections and ambient occlusion will be the most benefit visually for a racer

I wasn't aware of this but that's cool. Ray tracing seems like it is going to be all the hype going forward and I was thinking it was superior to all other non ray traced options, even with the known hit to performance ray tracing tends to bring with it. That svogi seems to be ray traced anyway so FH4 is partly there with the ray tracing!

svogi is an approximation of raytracing, a really good one, but still a cheat. there's very little reason to use raytraced GI in a game where you don't also have RT shadows AND RT ambient occlusion both, and at that point the performance tradeoff is extreme

the game does seem pretty well optimized on PC or at least runs very well. If I can get 150+ FPS with a 6700K and 5700 XT I can't imagine what someone with a 5600X and 3080 or 6800 XT (+SAM enabled) is getting right now

you'll need to get a pci-e sata card to actually use all 12 drive bays, no matx motherboard has more than 6 - 8 sata ports, but those don't cost TOO much, i'd reccomend a cheap used LSI 9201-8i or 9211-8i HBA card off of ebay for that kind of purpose, you can order the sas breakout cables for $10 a pop on amazon to make use of it, and those cards are $50 - 80 on ebay

When my monitor runs at 240Hz my GPU's VRAM speed goes to max (1750MHz) and temperatures slowly rise. Zero RPM fan likely isn't helping and as we speak I have set the refresh rate to 120Hz and that temperature is dropping. Think the fans don't kick in until the GPU hits 60C and then stops again after they go below 50C

Just by playing some Watch Dogs Legion and going through Hardware Unboxed's optimization guide again. It would appear this game is crying out for GPUs with more than 8GB VRAM as even lowering settings like texture resolution and shadows the game was still exceeding 7.5GB and idk the cut off point to where an 8GB card really shouldn't use more but I can't imagine I was far off it. Honestly can't wait to get an 6800 XT then I could set those two settings to max with no real care for VRAM usage since the 16GB of the 6800 XT should be more than enough

MSRP on the reference model from AMD was $649 but it would appear, unless the prices on the store I plan to buy one from are just placeholder that AIB partner cards have an Asus Strix-like premium. Most of them exceeding £800 here and after doing some number crunching all of them are above the price that should be paid after converting USD to GBP then adding the UK's 20% VAT

even a reference design with PowerColor on the box costs more than the MSRP. £659 which even that I believe is wrong with the above I mentioned

6800 XT MSRP = $649 USD. Conversion to GBP = 487.73. VAT added brings that up to £585.27. Don't think we'll be seeing that sort of price for a 6800 XT for a very long time 😦

@tawdry cargo There's an issue where you can't join parties through the gamebar or Xbox app but you can still join them through the console companion app. You should be able to host parties through gamebar but that breaks if you already tried to join someone and requires restarting your pc

Your constricting your build to a hard drive that’s about the same performance as a console that came out on 2013, and you’re going to completely bottleneck your 3060ti against a 4 core to the point that the series X will crush it in certain scenarios.

Not only that, but you’re bottlenecking the processor itself by inserting it in a budget model of a chipset intended for processors from 2 generations prior.

a PC that can "make consoles useless" would likely have a CPU with 8 cores (console uses 7 cores for games) and at least 1TB NVMe SSD
