tried playing Ghostwire Tokyo with ray tracing enabled after finding a neat little guide on the graphics settings and their hit to performance and ouch. Even with TSR set to ultra quality ray tracing really hits hard. Constantly seen frame rate in the region of 60-80 FPS and this was at optimized settings (not maxed!) and 1440p. Biggest gains were from
global illumination - setting from SSGI to SSAO improves performance by over 20% while SSAO appears more detailed than the more taxing SSGI.
Ray traced reflection quality - setting from high to low reportedly saw a 15% improvement to performance with minimal loss to quality, according to the guide I read with the rest of the settings providing much smaller gains (2-5%) that just weren't worth lowering imo

I followed a guide on how to delete the save files locally, but I didn't really have to do that. I just wanted to play through the prologue again (to record it), the previous time, I had exited the game right as the intro ended. So I thought it would've saved the game, you know how Fh4 saves the game every single second. After I deleted the files, when I started the game, it said invalid profile or something, I closed it, turned off the wifi, then started the game again. This time it showed "Continue", but when I clicked on it, the game started from the beginning. So yeah, in the end, I got what I wanted.

tried the FSR2 (DLSS) mod for Dying Light 2 that is going about just now and apparently it works on other games. Funny thing is it enables DLSS on AMD cards and I was able to have a pretty playable experience on Dying Light 2 cranking everything up to max, including ray tracing. Did drop below 60 FPS now and again and was worse during night time in that game but 60+ FPS with ray tracing and at 1440p? Now we're talking!
Also updated DLSS to the latest version (2.4.3)

it can really vary game by game. Some see no improvement, perhaps even a loss in performance while others can see up to 17%. Free performance gains are nice either way you look at it though I think it would be best if AMD could disable it in games where there is a loss of performance or better yet, find a way to improve SAM for those games. Recent driver improved SAM performance on Watch Dogs Legion. Haven't tested it on my PC since but may do so soon (see if I can get the FSR2 mod to work in that game too while I'm at it)

Question that's stumbled me... if I turn my PC off with the 'shutdown' via the start menu in Windows 10/11, it's fine. I can power back on straight away with the power button. But if I do the same and then either flick the switch on the PSU and/or unplug it, and I power it back on.... it turns on for a few seconds, turn itself off and I have to press the power button again. I had this years ago and remember it was a setting in my BIOS but can't remember what setting exactly. Any ideas?

you can try Hibernate mode, what that does is suspend the PC by writing the state to disk so it opens all your same windows, but the PC is totally shut down so safe to unplug. it's not enabled by default any more so you have to go into Power settings to enable it

on the earlier topic of hibernation. I use sleep mode but shut my PC down. Provided power plan settings are correct though a computer really won't consume that much power since idle will only have the hardware use whatever power it needs and no more. Sleep goes even further but I do have one or two concerns about keeping that active 24/7 mainly relating to power outages but sleep mode will use even less power than being idle on the desktop. Think of it like an Xbox's standby mode

wait, how come? this is news to me but have heard other negative stuff that put me off using hibernation in the past. Anytime I fresh install windows hibernation is amongst the first things I change and the funny thing is that up until late last year I didn't even use sleep mode or believed the balanced power plan was the right one to use lol

I didn't find anything to remap the buttons directly in windows, but I accually find a not quite new thread on a microsoft forum explaining the exact same issue as me. I followed the fix suggestions, and installed the xbox accessories app, and it directly suggested me an update which solved the issue. Just recieved the controller today, but guess it stayed a bit in storing hangars before i bought it x)

I remember a similar thing happening using Bluetooth. I got the USB adapter and never had any weird issues since. I’d avoid Bluetooth honestly as you get fps drops also.

Graphics card (and CPU too btw) usually monitor themselves and reduce their calculation power when they get too hot, but for any processing unit going above 90 degree without any explanation (overclock or anything else) usually isn't normal

from what I remember of the GTX 10 Series is that from around 70C the card will begin to downclock (or at least my old 1080 Ti used to do that) not by much or anything noticeable and things are fine there but should you hit say 105C then you have a problem as the PC will likely shutdown to prevent damage. Otherwise I really wouldn't worry too much about the temperature of your GPU. Under any 3D load that stresses it the temperature will rise
also, if stock Nvidia GPUs usually cap out at around 84C. Raise the power limit through programs like Geforce Experience or MSI Afterburner though and it will use more power thus get warmer too

Yeah I kinda agree, the BT is just unreliable now. Works some days, randomly drops connection on others. Problem with the official USB dongle is that it only works with (official) Xbox One/Series controllers, afaik. I play an awful lot of Steam games using my Switch Pro and so I guess I gotta resort to using wired connection

Hello! In the app for windows 10, Xbox accessories, there is no way to roll back the firmware of the connected gamepad. I recently updated the firmware of the gamepad and now in some games it does not work correctly, the pressed buttons register incorrect commands. Before the firmware update, the gamepad worked well. Please add a firmware rollback feature to the xbox accessories app for windows 10 users.

It’s all tied up with the online services on PC. If they delivered the DLC through steam this would not e an issue, but they had to do it differently.

Their MP is quite decent - it's their single player design that has become stale (or "trash" in terms some people might understand better; obviously that's hecka hyperbole). It's precisely because they innovated the initial open world popularity fad that they're unable to keep doing it again. They need new blood (leadership staff from other places or generations, new investors), or other publishers need to step up in those genres of single player design (which some have).
Innovation isn't something that keeps happening, in general. Metaphorically speaking, lightning doesn't get captured in a bottle more than once, usually. (When it does, internal changes have already happened, usually as response to the external industry)

I just checked. There is now an option to install games under a specific directory but for most games like sea of thieves, horizon 4 there is a warning that appears saying it can only be installed as an encrypted file. I assume because these are UWP games or some such. Shame they can't just move over the version they have on steam to gamepass.
Gears 5 is the only one out of mine that seems to not be an encrypted file.

I think there are some UE5 benchmarks you can try out and see how they run. Obviously not the same as a real game test but better than nothing.

For your GTX 1080 it should be fine up to and including 90C (though far from ideal) and even then there is likely a 105C limiter where should that be hit the PC will shutdown to prevent damage so unless your 1080 is a Founders edition (blower style cooler) you should be fine. GTX 10 series cards seemed to start to throttle clock speeds a little early from what I remember when I owned a 1080 Ti where after 70C the clock speed would lower a little, nothing significant that would impact performance but is there.
As for your system and Unreal Engine 5, it may struggle as it is optimized for more recent hardware and the latest consoles

just catching up on the chat here and it is crazy to think at one point I used to say similar about going higher resolution until I went 1440p. For a while I felt I made the wrong purchase as performance just wasn't there with my then 5700 XT but all that quickly changed with the 6800 XT and now I am due to upgrade to a 4K monitor and now know full well what to expect with this upgrade but I have a plan in place that involves upgrading the GPU once more and as soon as I can so hopefully 4K gaming becomes a lot more playable after that. Going to be pretty exciting to game on a more standard resolution again (1440p not being so standard)
the thing I'll never understand is how many years back "HD" was 720p. I don't get how 1440p/QHD never made it as a TV standard and instead went from 1080p right to 4K and most recently (albeit with very limited content) 8K

Because 1440p doesn't upscale as cleanly from 1080p, apparently, so anything that was already done in 1080p might've been better suited to being remastered in 4K.
But I think it's marketing fad. Years ago, 4K wasn't being marketed as "4K, because the horizontal resolution is 3840" (that's bad rounding, btw, in case anyone's wondering). 4K was marketed as "4x your current FHD resolution!" Which, I gotta say, sounds like a much better hook than 1440p being "not even 1.78x your current FHD"

heh, first game I pulled an all nighter with was Monster Hunter Freedom Unite on the PSP. Had a friend over and my brother also had a PSP and the game. Played it all night and iirc we didn't get that far (Monster Hunter games seem pretty difficult) but seeing night become morning was a sight to behold for me. My friend just looked at me and laughed before we all fell asleep at like 7am that day. Lucky it was during a holiday 😄

ahh yeah, you'll definitely want to have 32GB. Found 16GB is still enough for gaming (at least up to 1440p) but just. Some games I've played will use up to 14GB. Which depending on what other programs you have open in the background you may be very close to (or hitting) the limits of 16GB ram
