That’s how I enjoy the games before I play them

I enjoy stress testing the PC

It also creates a time stamp to this period and maybe in 10 years I do the same game again and can appreciate the progress made in hardware.

I lived through the original Crysis and that was a “Benchmark” in computer graphics and also a requirement for top of the line hardware to run it.

Back then it was impossible to imagine that game being run on Ultra at 60FPS as you could struggle to get 30 with the best hardware.

And now you can look back and see the difference.

And it’s not much because maxed out on a 5090 I saw someone only getting 55 fps 😄

According to benchmarks, the i5-11600KF should actual beat the 5600X.

Unobtanium preset at 4K with DLSS set to Performance (fixed) and Frame Generation set to 4x scares me on Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora... Even ultra preset is pretty demanding and idk but something doesn't seem quite right with DLSS Ray Reconstruction as it has a rather hefty performance hit when I thought it would have been minimal or even improve performance slightly

is your eyes playing tricks on you? like showing something of an inverted curve that isn't there? That's what happened to me after I went from experiencing 1000R curve back to flat. Took the best part of a week for my eyes to calm down and realize there was no curve but during that time the center of the screen was coming towards me where before that would have been further back with the curve. Really was something lol

I had logged in with a single account through the Xbox PC app, but I no longer have access to that account and can't log out or access my main account. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app, but it still asks for a password because it's logged in with the same account, it doesn't automatically log me out, and since I don't know the password for that account, I can't log in and out. So the account is automatically logged in, and because I can't log out, I can't log in with my main account.

dlss renders game internally at a lower resolution and then upscales it to match your target resolution to give you more fps. in turn may look worse but with DLSS4 it looks good. frequently looks better than native AA.

frame gen just generates frames using an advanced algorithm but can add more latency

Depending on the real FPS frame gen might have been hurting performance somewhat, though even with you having a 5090 I doubt you’d be getting that sort of FPS at 1440p Ultra settings. I do find it a bit strange how you were locked to 480 FPS though

unless that's the game doing that capping via vsync or perhaps even game engine limits I would turn off the vsync (though usually when enabling frame generation vsync is off and greyed out as an option, I have noticed a few games that still seem to allow it) let that FPS go! 😄

ahh, I see. I would cap it a few FPS below as at 480 FPS you will hit the gsync ceiling if you use that. Might be times gsync disengages as it could technically exceed the upper FPS range for gsync and reintroduce screen tearing - though tbh at 480Hz I doubt that is even noticeable, I hardly notice it on my 240Hz OLED

Normally I cap under but there was no option for Reflex + Boost nor a manual limit.

It didn’t exceed 480 so no tearing.

it could still cause screen tearing even when 480 FPS is showing if it was to go even .1 above that (which it could) that would be where gsync can temporarily stop being active. Recommendation used to be a cap of -3 FPS relative to the refresh rate of your monitor as that shouldn't cause the whole gsync thing to go between states of on or off

Perhaps. I know if you enable vsync from within the Nvidia app or Nvidia control panel and enable reflex in game it will cap FPS lower than the refresh rate of the monitor. Seems to also work with frame gen but I would question if that is optimal or harming latency in some way

I'd consider switching to Linux if not for some games requiring users to jump through hoops with fire on them to get working properly. With Windows the majority of games just work, though I really do feel Microsoft remain on top mainly due to a lack of serious competition in regards to an OS that can play most games without much, if any issues. If they had that competition it would keep them on their feet more. Kind of hoping SteamOS could become something like that once it is updated and people can use it on their PCs etc

iirc there may be some limitations you have to look out for with wifi network cards, for example certain Intel cards won't work either due to key compatibility on the slot or just general compatibility issues with AMD's platform

I think for AMD's case if Anti-Lag 2 isn't a supported option in game, similar to Nvidia Reflex then as soon as Frame Generation is enabled it will be detected and Radeon Anti-Lag I'll shorten it to RAL) from the driver will enable itself instead. I noticed that when I had my 7900 XTX and enabled Frame Generation in Stalker 2 where opening AMD Software with the hotkey it showed RAL was active

RDNA 3 has issues with idle power draw. AMD tried patching it many times and at times were successful but it always kept coming back

I think specific setups that used multiple monitors didn't help users if they wanted lower power draw when idle either as that was one of the more specific instances AMD warned users of

also, what power plan/mode are you using on your systems? I would recommend using balanced - best performance as that may help a little with the idle temperatures if you were previously using high performance as that will use more power, even when maybe not necessary (power modes best efficiency, balanced and best performance only show when power plan is set to balanced)

I've noticed that a bunch on my 5080 when I play games at 4K where with DLAA set GPU power draw could reach or even exceed 300W but with DLSS set to Quality that could drop to around 250-280W and if I follow Nvidia's DLSS recommendation for 4K and set games to use Performance that could drop below 200W while really pushing FPS up

I would suggest trying 4K and see what native vs performance upscaling gives. At 4K the CPU bottleneck shouldn't be as much as the GPU will likely be doing most of the work but it might show in the upscaling run as internally you'd be rendering 1080p while using the performance preset at 4K

So I've been researching why this driver built FSR didn't work (sometimes it does, sometimes it does not) and I found a Reddit thread. I pressed "ctrl + shift + 0" and now it seems to work every time as long as I have the AMD app open (well, icon in the taskbar) so that's a lot better!

where supported in games the in game FSR upscaler should be better, especially if the version exceeds that of what the driver version (RSR) is based on, which to my understanding is FSR 1.0. Main reason in game vs driver is better is that the driver version will upscale everything that is on screen and that includes UI elements etc where as in game is optimized to not do that but the one perk I do see for the driver version is where no upscaling is supported it is at least an option

in the event a game does have upscaling but no FSR support if it has either a game engine equivalent (Insomniac Games' ITGI or Unreal Engine 5's TSR, for example) or Intel's XeSS those can be pretty good alternatives to FSR

tbf I think AMD and Intel often get overlooked for their features appearing in games. Nvidia's DLSS is in plenty of them but FSR and XeSS can really vary and the implementation of them both compared to DLSS where they are supported can be pretty poor too. Obviously I can understand that up until FSR 4/Redstone AMD wasn't using any AI or ML and the same can be said I think for XeSS (unless using an Intel GPU where it further optimizes by using XMX instructions while non Intel ARC GPUs fallback to DP4a instructions)

hmm, idk if the warning is still out there about using DDU on AMD GPUs as clearing it could also mess with AMD chipset drivers in some way but I would use AMD's own cleanup utility as it doesn't potentially mess with anything besides clearing out all the GPU entries. Only thing I would do before hand is make sure you have the latest driver downloaded and disconnect from the internet while clearing out the driver and then installing the latest (still disconnected from the internet, only reconnecting after the new driver install is finished and PC is restarted) as Windows can sometimes override the driver install and create problems

I should also ask, how are you downloading the drivers? straight from AMD's website using the list of GPUs to find yours or the auto detect feature? the latter method isn't recommended

Hello, quick question
I was hesitant between a G7 pro & the Nacon revolution X pro for a controller

Heard the G7 might be small and I have rather large hands, would the Nacon be better suited for me ?

Also are they both equivalent perks wise ?

3080 is another option. sits between the 5060 and 5070 in terms of performance for a pretty low price in some areas

only thing with the 3080 is the 10GB VRAM it has, which is less than what a 5070 has. I'd recommend looking at GPUs with 12GB+ on the VRAM if you plan on playing the latest games these days and also for rendering I would think more VRAM is helpful hence why the 5070 Ti would be the ideal option as it has 16GB. 5080 isn't worth it when it costs something like $250+ more than a 5070 Ti and you get about 90% of a 5080 and 16GB VRAM is much the same on both GPUs

I Did some research :
