You never know how well the CPU and GPU and other components were taken care of. That's why it's not the best to buy a used gaming PC because it might only last a couple years whereas a brand new one should last closer to a decade

The CPU and GPUs in any machine from the last ten years is probably fine unless it's seen hours worth of time at dangerous temps.
Components such as the hard drive and RAM have a much higher failure rate than the silicon of production chips (this is obviously disregarding the defective chip situation with Intel as of most recent)
If it's lasted the last 10 years, it'll probably last 10 more with new thermal paste slapped under the cooler.

I'd like to reiterate - if it's lasted 10 years, it'll probably last 10 more.
My primary desktop and home server are still 4th gen intel CPUs. 32 and 16GBs of ram respectively. Both still work fine.
Purchasing used tech is not only a more affordable means of obtaining more powerful, albeit older hardware than new at the same budget, but it keeps perfectly good computers from landing in the dump to rot

My setup isn't nearly as impressive, around 4TBs usable storage on my server, then another 1.5TB on my desktop.

500GB SSD + 1TB HDD on the desktop, moved my 2TB storage drive from my desktop to the server recently, has me a bit more organized just accessing stuff from the home server instead of risking losing it on the off chances I lug around my desktop

I've got Arch running on a 1TB portable SSD and Windows 11 running on my PC's only M.2 SSD, a WD Black SN850X 2TB but other than that a couple of 256GB USB sticks I plan to keep around for fresh installing Windows as it updates or I run into issues and the other for trying out different Linux distros (been having a lot of fun with that lately). Also have a 32GB USB stick though it is older and has seen better days. Likely just to keep that around for BIOS updates

You may be impressed to see how tiny Arch's install footprint is even with a full desktop and utilities installed.
I have been using the installation of Arch on my desktop for forever now, and it's only at about 80GBs of system storage use. This includes my applications and data.

950 Pacman packages, 70 Flatpaks

Apparently 20+ GBs of that storage is from my project work in Ghidra too.

I could probably shave my system down to around 50GB of storage usage in around 10 minutes.

I think the two games I installed yesterday on Arch put my total storage usage well over 200GB 😄 and that is just two days into running Arch, though it was games I mainly wanted to test to see if they would run any differently on Arch compared to Ubuntu. Still need to figure out how to get some performance metrics overlay thingy going so I can see how the hardware is doing while I game, make sure it is behaving as it should because if not things could get very technical, very fast 😱

hmm, considering you're installing everything as native packages, MangoHUD could likely work a little nicer, not having to deal with Snap sandboxes and all (assuming you were previously running things from the Ubuntu software center - which is mainly snaps iirc)

might have another look at MangoHUD but last time I checked it out I think it recommended compiling the package (though this was on Ubuntu, maybe things are a bit different being on Arch)

MangoHUD is in the Extra repo, should be able to run pacman -S mangohud and be good to go

from there, adding it to your steam launch options, etc. etc.

MangoHUD usually is configured with a special text file, however there is a GUI app, it's pretty basic but it will probably get the job done for you

I personally don't have a fancy CPU with the P-core/E-core or 3D cache stuff, so I'm not precisely sure if I can guide you though the process of telling programs to only run on specific cores

I don't think there will really be any improvements if only using FSR 3. Frame Generation is the only noticeable change as I believe FSR 3 is more of a fallback to 2.2 (which Cyberpunk 2077 used before this update) while adding support for frame generation that won't improve performance. Will only give the look that it does by introducing additional frame(s) and near doubling the FPS (fake frames) while then increasing input latency. 30 FPS is still going to feel like 30 FPS but possibly worse. Not really something I'd enable but FSR is ok imo.
I'd try XeSS even as some reviewers have found XeSS to be better than FSR though XeSS 1.3 adds some additional upscaling presets that will likely confuse people compared to FSR and DLSS options as they no longer scale 1:1

so far not impressed with how FSR 3 looks and this took them about a year (after announcing support for it) to release... FSR version isn't even 3.1, which would have offered the user the option to upgrade similar to DLSS and XeSS should they choose and the frame generation option requires a restart to turn on or off. but - the game does indeed work on Linux! That's cool! One less blocker for people who perhaps want to try out something other than Windows on their desktop.

Performance felt solid, even after skipping the vulkan shader processing (I ended up skipping it since it was 10% every half hour...)
I'm sure it would be better if I waited it out - generally it felt smooth, slightly less so in more detailed areas but perfectly playable still.

still so much to do to get more games that use anti cheat supported though and more game launchers properly supported on Linux too. I'd consider switching to Linux fully if that ever happens but for the time being stuck with Windows. Really needs to be more choice to keep things competitive

EAC and I believe BattlEye both have Linux support - down to it being literally a single switch that's flipped and the game will magically work on Linux (within reasonable error because Proton/Wine could need to be updated to better support it etc) (citation needed - I know this from word of mouth)
So with that, I think the things really stopping devs from letting their games run on Linux is 1) the influx of players and possible issues that may arise, Linux players turning to the game's customer support, causing havoc in CS centers for these devs, and 2) the idea that hacking a game may be easier done on Linux (which is likely BS considering Linux sees less cheat tools made for it and the entire cheating scene orients around games running on Windows far as I know)

Roblox was a blocker for my youngest brother to use Linux on the laptop I gave him when his died. His laptop was a bottom tier Asus running Windows 11 - the laptop I gave him was my old Thinkpad T450 running Fedora. Runs like a dream on Linux.
Roblox is playable on Linux via either Waydroid or a community project that wraps up the Android version of the game and allows it to run pretty well on Linux, this comes after Roblox's new AC killed Linux with the desktop client.

If you also installed rivatuner statistics (which should also prompt to install during the msi afterburner install) you might have to open that and from there is an option to toggle the OSD on or off, set it to on and you’ll see the FPS displayed in games

You should just be able to leave the beta program through the Google play store (or however you joined the program)
You can try deleting the app, leaving the group (if you haven’t already) and redownload it from whichever App Store you use

Why limit your players to one platform? Get them in as many places as you can.

Not every person is going to have a PC. They are expensive, they can be complicated. Some people just want a simple plug and play experience, so there's plenty of people who are still interested in console.

For those that aren't, Xbox is giving them the option to play where they want to play, rather than either trying to force them to buy a console or wait 12-18 months to get the game.

It's not perfect but you can prolong the longevity of your controller by using electrical contact cleaner.
I had issues with drift on my Oculus Quest joys and I just spray it between gaps, not even disassembling and it fixed the issue for me 3 times already. It's not conductive so no worries about messing up your electronics.
I used WD-40 version.

If you are using this for your bike you are using the wrong stuff m8. This leaves no residue so it is not a lubricant, it can't hurt electronics, be sure you are using the correct one though, because there are lots of different versions of WD-40.

mind you, it will not "fix" your controller permanently, It will only extend it's life a bit. Those contacts wear over time, but in some circumstances like contaminants or corrosion on contacts, this should help

my gaming pc costed me about $600, I can run modern games on medium settings 60fps I think the new xbox is like $500 but Im not sure how it does performance wise... you can get pretty good deals on PCs if you have an eagle eye... if you build one from scratch it's possible to build something equally powerful as ps5/xbx series for like $400 but it would be pushing it to the max

press windows+alt+f5 and then it will opena control panel then from there go to selections>gamelog>whatevr version>NVIDIACoroperatrion then delete the geforce logs folder

open up the remote play experience then go to settings>privacy>passwords>ENG>DELL then click the restart Alt eng

if you dont see privacy passwords downlaod the 3rd party old version basically the 3 years ago version

Hey y'all, just updated my BIOS to the latest version with the 0x12B microcode and ruined my XMP feature, it cause crashes on Fortnite when is enabled, i tested with it disabled and dosn't seem to crash at all,

I don't know how is that even possible, maybe because i disabled XMP when i wanted to do the firmware update? It dosn't make sense

Anyway, should i flashback to the May BIOS version? I saw the other microcode firmwares getting deleted from the site and that's the only recent update there

September 27 Intel BIOS firmware is broken, even the beta version of 0x129 was better then this

XMP is technically an overclock so could be the new bios update isn't getting on with it with the new changes. You could rollback but if this is 13th or 14th gen you may also run into the CPU degrading issue.

I found out that i5 13600KF can be affected with the instability issues and i deciced to install the latest firmware but it cause me issues, i have no choice then just roll back to F10 version i guess

I heard people on forums having issue with the latest BIOS firmware too, i should have listen

I think they just needed to get the microcode out there because of the severity with degradation issues. Maybe further updates will fix some issues

I know it shouldn't matter too much but if that BIOS version had "beta" written on it at all I would have recommended waiting or installing the last non beta version until the version with microcode patch 0x12B released properly as some boards only showed it available as a beta not that long ago

one other thing to note I don't think Intel will allow flashback with these updates and even if they did there is a good chance some of the BIOS update will remain so I'd recommend against doing that as that too could cause some issues

I'm guessing its a limitation of not being activated but otherwise idk. Stuff like that is what will change people over to Linux seeing as they are free and you can customize just about anything right out of the box (or first boot)

yeah, that will be the biggest counter to any gamer wanting to use a Linux distro and I'd say its the only thing really letting it down on the gaming end. if other launchers were supported and certain anti cheat/anti tamper didn't get in the way I think there would be very little holding people back from switching over

hmm, I wonder then if your CPU is affected since it is experiencing crashes as there appears to be multiple microcode changes piled into that one update (version F12)

I'd just be cautious with updating to beta versions of BIOS, even though Intel and board partners say to urgently update due to the issues 13th and 14th gen CPUs have hold out until they leave the beta state as that should indicate they are stable releases. I would have stuck with F12 to see if it happens in other games as unfortunately it could be a sign of an affected CPU, especially with all those changes applied at once
