If you have Ultimate, gold will always convert to Ultimate. You need to let your Ultimate run out before adding the XBox Live Gold code.

The math does work out though. 4 months of Ultimate is the same cost as a year of Gold, I believe, hence the small conversion. If you want to maximize it though, let your Ultimate run out, add the Gold code and then buy a month of Ultimate and you'll get 13 months of Ultimate.

You can play the game for as long as you pay for Game Pass, EA Play or until EA delists/retires the game.
