Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising against other players I'd regularly go 115-0. CoD mobile I regularly get 70-100+. Probably several dozen (never kept track) in regular CoD. Battlefield, my highest kill count game was >100.

Some games it's really not that difficult to do, given certain circumstances exist.

It's also not Xbox giving players the finger. There are several reasons why certain games are not back compat.

Publishers need to give approval for it. Technical issues could prevent it. Licensing issues could also make it not possible - which is one of the most common reasons.

People act like "Game XYZ would make me sell my console and buy the other consoles" is real. But general mainstream will not sell their consoles for a single game. Or a bunch of good games. There are a lot of factors that make people buy a console. And everyone has different taste. Person A might like Halo but also likes Playstations community or something. So he buys Playstation.
Person B might like Halo but also likes the Xbox community and buys an Xbox. Who knows. There are a lot of factors. And games alone do not sell a console as being shown by Nintendo plenty of times.

Actually that wasn't the problem... the problem was actually that they came from the Saturn which also had great games but the lifespan of the Saturn was just... too short. People went on. Sega just had a lot of problems back then.
