Yes, PS5 controllers are rechargeable, but the batteries also lose charge pretty quickly and don't have good capacity.

Whereas with Xbox you can buy high capacity rechargeable batteries or battery packs.

If your friend bases their console purchase decisions on controller batteries, they have their priorities very mixed up.

Get an Elite 2 that isn't defect out of the box and its a fine controller. You may need to return 1 or 2 to get a good unit though.
