What content are you referring to here. Balance definitely did not get simplified like some of the other specs did but the problems it sounds like you're running into can be solved

For example you talk about how you can press starfall 2-3 times and then have to re-dot everything. But if you're doing content like keys you spec into aethereal kindling which has starfall extend your dots

Checks lorggs to see cooldown timings, and pool resources for your cooldowns. Pool resources so you can cast while moving for the soaks. You can also use the compare function of warcraftlogs to dive deeper into a comparison between your kill and a similar kill time one. Also dont feel too bad about the adds, it depends on your comp how much dmg you can do to them. As long as the big guy dies fast enough and the other guy get cleaved in a reasonable time frame you are chilling.
