I imagine they will flood the marketing with budget when they need it.

Right now the game is still early so all the many changes to the core gameplay while the main game is being built is on smaller set of playerbase and social media eyes, once its closer to be finished it will probably get marketed heavier to bring more people in because less changes would be happening on large scale and so often.

I mean it's been out for more than a year in early access. I mean hell, fortnite was out in early access for like 3 years and their closed alpha was also for 3 years. OTG should have stayed in playtest for another 3 months at least so that we could continue fixing bugs, working on optimization, and balance the limbs and weapons as much as possible.

If it's still 'early' right now and we know there aren't many players, then why did they make ranked in the game if they aren't going to market it and try to bring as many people in to play ranked as possible?

Because they are new to ranked systems and trying out how to make it work for the game. Which is why the ranked system is early, not even ranked based matchmaking just RP gain mechanics so not even full ranked yet. Everything is testing to me. This title is EA in truest sense all the way til full release.
