I just updated the full pack from yesterdays update. What happened? I am getting all kinds of crashes. Using a tarot card, opening a spectral pack, looking at the deck, using the wheel... etc. I've removed Bunco and JokerDisplay and its support, is there anything else I should not include for now?
I'll have to check the logs, the windows crash handler steps in before the mod crash handler so I'm not seeing it right away.

Unrecoverable. But the latest one (checking the deck) I had 3 copies of 2D, little m, razor, and crow person. It wasn't a particularly demanding loadout.

Manual update. Open mods, Ctrl-A, Delete, open downloads, delete modpack, run setupfull.bat. Manager still has the issue of hardlocking on update for me. But I am certain that's an issue on my end, I'm just not that fussed to figure it out.

Seemed to be primarily related to deck manipulation. The first run died when I attempted to use a death card on 2 aces, converting a normie into gold. The second run softlocked when I got a random spectral tag (I think it was the special one with the gateway card) that immediately hung the game. Was able to debug out of that one but with no way to delete the tag it was dead. The third one was Aura related, sometimes Blueprint bugs right out with animations on, easy fix. The most recent one was looking at my deck to see how many 2's I had while in a arcana pack. There were a couple more very early crashes.
And yes, the game isn't generating logs as windows is terminating the process before the game realizes it needs to panic. I did notice that some runs were dropping to 10 FPS within 10 mins, you might be on to something with the performance thing... for reference my PC runs BG3 completely maxxed out and heavily modded so I'm not lacking horsepower.

Fine-Tuned 22b Test run 1) Major slowdown 7 minutes in. Going to start disabling mods one by one to try and find the culprit.
Test Run 2) Turned off Aura. 5 mins in, crunchy. Not the problem.
Test Run 3) Disabled Ankh. 5 mins from 600fps to 30fps. The killer is still on the loose.
Test Run 4) Disabled NotJustYet. No dice, crunchy again.
Test Run 5) Disabled Balatro Safety. Sigh.
Test Run 6) Disabled Stacked Red Seals. At this point the performance issues are consistent. Some function is incrementing wildly out of control here. But what would be running consistently in the background and bloating with card triggers/spawns/deletions?
Test Run 7) Yeah. That seems to be it. Every card trigger, spawn, deletion, redemption etc, seems to increase the load. Going to do a bit more scientific approach this time. Do an absolute minimum viable run using debug to set up the file (5 cards, 1 joker, no cons), start fresh, see if FPS stabilizes, and then try to narrow down the effect and see if that points me in the right direction.
Test Run 8) Anti-stress test. Yellow Deck. Left it alone for 20 mins. Stable at 590ish fps. Played High card. No effect on performance. Played four of a kind. No effect. Stable at cash-out. Loading the shop we have our first performance hit. Stabilized at 540fps now. Now on Ante 5, stable at 320fps. It seems like the shop is the main culprit. Loading a shop seems to consistently hammer down the performance by about 5%. Kept playing. Buying, selling, redeeming, and opening packs has minimal if any effect. Starting behaving at 250 for a while. Started a few new runs, behaved. Fired up the Deck of Stuff and within about 4 shops we dipped below 30fps and the game lags. So I wonder if it's certain cards loading into the shop causing the slowdown?
No crashes though. So that's good news.
Does rerolling the shop slow down?
Not in any meaningful way, but I had no money to test like 20+ rolls.

This definitely sounds like a memory leak issue.
Yeah, just tested the re-roll theory. Nah. Up to $100 re-rolls, no issues. Had to clone and sell hundreds of jokers to afford it, no problem there either. Play the next blind, no issue. Performance takes a hit at cash-out for obvious reasons but it recovers. Loading the shop is what seems to cause the permanent hit.
When I tested a couple of weeks ago I had the same issue of it slowing down when the shop is loaded, but I think I was testing with only Cryptid on

I suspect that is the case. Vanilla runs can get pretty crunchy when you abuse Perkeo, this seems to be that on steroids.
There is a memory leak issue with vanilla Balatro relating to consumable count.
But I don't remember hearing one for the shop
Hm. I'm going to try disabling everything and just run it with the steamodded loader and see if the issue persists.
No problems after a dozen or so blinds. So it's most likely a mod misbehaving. So now which mods would be loading something on cash out?
Talisman, maybe? Or is that also not included in Fine-Tuned due to requiring mod compat?
Either way the cashout menu is created by G.FUNCS.evaluate_round, and managed by Game:update_round_eval.
Mods that hook/inject into these two would be the most likely sources of this if it is happening on cash out.
I think I found the culprit. On a whim I decided to run only SDM Stuff mod and encountered the shop issue immediately. Figured out I can just press L to reload the shop. Every L press was -30 fps. Ran it again with everything but SDM enabled and the shop issue is not present. Hit L about 20 times and no discernible slowdown is happening. So something funky is happening there.
I'm gonna try removing it from fullpack and see if that stabilizes it.
Well, I've got fullpack back to playable. Removing the betmma mods, joker display, sdm, and bunco seems to have fixed the fatal exception errors and now it crashes normally when I do something that I know the game can't handle (canvas abuse). The deck viewing glitch is still present, but that only seems to happen when everything else is starting to fall apart when extreme runs get extreme.

Ok, so abilitys are treated as consumables as far as hammerspace is concerened, and that '-1 hand size' actually means 'instant death lol'
why instant death?
i think it's maybe some of the passive abilitys created are causing the hand size to be put down to zero

the issue caused by abilitys being the same as consumables as far as the game is concerned
also something within this mess is causing massive lag at the end of each round

Those are the ones I've identified as giving me stability and/or performance issues. I do try a few runs with them re-enabled every update but I usually end up nixing these ones. I'd disable them but I'm in the mod folder often enough for updates that I just remove them. The SDM_0 came as a bit of a surprise; I ran only it and debug out of the fine-tuned pack and it just slowed to unplayable after about 5 shop loads. Not sure what's going on there.

So it seems the SDM_0 misbehaviour is exclusive to the Deck of Stuff. I've added it back to the rotation and will just avoid DoS for the time being.

It's just so easy to overlook when the ^mult machine is churning. Next thing you know the machine grinds to a dead halt and you're staring at 4054 in 2 odds to reject a hand. Ah well, in the future grind for a negative revert before going on autopilot.
Ugh. I'm annoyed. Finally get a run past Ante 50 with no random irrecoverable crashes after a week of tweaking and it just craters on a technically impossible boss.

I can confirm, however, that going manually through the mod list in the Google Sheets, clicking on the mod links, and downloading the zips one by one, that does make them all work together without a single fail, so at least that's a backup

I think if you keep Cryptid, then Incantation could stay, but you could send all three off, or to an addon pack, which might as well just be a small modpack on it's own that has every mod that is completely overpowered.

Hmm. based on the levels, all those hands should be better... but those actual chip and mult values are a lot worse... especially my poor high card score

Honestly, I think a Power Trip modpack could be the way to go. Purely just the most powerful mods, like Almanac and Cryptid, and any enablers, like NotJustYet letting their overpowered jokers be even more overpowered and TWEWY's tons of hand size that I find often pairing well with Cryptid, and drop things like KCVanilla, Virtues, and Paperback, which just don't match the scaling.
Bonus Blinds should be in it just because of how much it can compound already broken mods into the sky with extra shops and rounds at the lower ante levels, then. Betmma's vouchers and abilities are also really wild, especially the Thumb ability.
Also, um... high card looks a bit better now. Just a minor power spike for it
So what you mean are a modpack with all these powerful mods only?
Yeah. Keep them separate, so you can still enjoy mods like Lobotomy Corp, and I think D6 jokers which are stuck in extreme, but, still present and convenient for people to download all the powerful mods together.
D6 is gone sadly
Oh! If I had to pick a mod here that had "polluting" jokers - I'd say Snow's. There's a whole line of "coin" jokers there, and I feel like I have never once seen a single one of them do anything, to the point I just avoid them unless I don't care about my joker slots in the run and feel like trying to see if a given one might actually work.
I subscribe to this line of thinking, mods like cryptid and JA are cool and do wacky things but I don’t think they have a place in a large mod pack like this
I personally didn't like having no differences in the icon art, I think some basic recolouring could've went a long way to stop me from picking up several D6 jokers assuming it would just be a Fool, but, either way, think what I was getting at still makes sense.

This can be getting out of hand really quickly, note that even at one pack I am not maintaining it to my standard, let alone three or even more
I might actually just ditch Vanilla plus altogether at the same time since I don't think there's a single organism in the universe is playing the pack
I went to grab the mods there for myself, personally, but I'm also still using a modified version of MilckQOL for my cards to be correlated to numbers.

I think it does, but I do also think it's much less popular and can easily be ignored/neglected for the most part, unless someone specifically mentions an issue on it.
I like it there more for the organization of it than to use it for myself, if that explains my thoughts better?

also I will construct some polls to gather up all the opinions from you guys after some pondering upon today's topics
I like having them all in one place so that I can download all the QoL mods at once, and pick and choose which ones I move over - Like, for example, I don't personally like the look of JokerDisplay, it feels like it clutters up the screen too much for me, so I would just leave it instead of moving it over.
I'll also mention that I use QoL mods on my basically vanilla, achievement enabled gold stake climbing profile.

Overall though, it is completely up to you - I'm not the one maintaining any modpacks, I have no idea what it actually takes behind the scenes. If it feels like too much, then feel free to drop it.

My thoughts as well. I don't really have many more QoL mods to recommend, Milck's is probably the only odd one, and I use it because I'm used to card games like StS with card hotkeys.
And if it's a Vanilla + mod that would be triple the time to fix them in all packs

Will say that Better Illusion and maybe Jeantoine might fall under vanilla+ for me if properly balanced, because they'd bring content already in the game to match the standard of other things in their tier - Illusion/Magic Trick, is just a downside in vanilla unless you have a specific build for it, and that's not good for a voucher effect. Chicot, isn't bad, but it's just nothing compared to the potential that any of the other Legendaries give,

That or maybe Nyx's "put in the rightmost slot to disable" effect should be kept when you upgrade her.

Deal seems to make The Survivor useless once it's the only level 1 hand left, since it can't level up, thus leaving it constantly trying to level up a hand that functionally doesn't exist.
@silver oriole hello i just want you to know that i used that modpack installer you made for one of your modpacks and when i installed it i happened to have a mod i was working on in my mods folder and when i did that it just like killed it permanently forever gone (i did have it open in vsc so i could recover the code luckily) but you should probably like make it not do that or maybe add a warning or something

Sorry but I don't understand what you mean
The setup file in the modpack release copies the files into the mods directory which last time I has used almost risked overriding the local copy of Cryptid I had that was modified to work with the API I was testing.

I think that the xcopy command used by the setup.bat file (and I assume also the button in the modpack manager that downloads/updates the mods? idk the code of it tho) is a bit too careless when people might already have mods inside the file.
Possible fixes for the issue :
- A warning before install

With JA, other content mods are simply separated into busted and meh

unfortunate because this means lobcorp goes into full pack with JA

my fps seems to just decimate itself over time inexplicably (as in, relaunching the game and proceeding with the same run gets me back up to 240 from 5), is there a specific mod known to be the culprit of this or am I just going to have to deal with this?

Apparently Cosmic Collapse makes Themed Jokers crash the game, since it has Cosmic in its name but has nothing for Cosmic Tokens on it.
Came from an Eternal Moon Base so that run's dead.

Welp, bricked my run. Somehow managed to get the required blind score to 0 and now it crashes when it tries to end the round. I actually made it past the win screen for once, though! I'll continue counting it as a win, thusly.

Also math since you are here, the config files are not loaded when i forked Cryptid and modified it directly

I think that updates the default config, but Steamodded saves the config to your profile

Alright, reinstalled. It was in the pack but wasn't installed for some reason. I didn't exclude it so I have no idea what went wrong.
Currently using whatever Abnormality that censors all the descriptions of cards, and Joker Sell Value is giving this crash anytime I mouse over a joker in a booster pack.
Removing Joker Sell Value did make the crash stop
I think poe is better than Antimatter cause Antimatter deck is all decks upside, but mods can have downsides

I am having some ideas that will potentially improve the modpacks as a whole (if possible), mostly revolving around better cooperation between mods:
- Remove duplicate and malfunctioning contents (e.g. same function vouchers in ortalab and ceres(yet to be added); combat ace theme in themed jokers)
- Sort conflicted concepts out (e.g. tier 3 vouchers and cryptid vouchers)
- Fuse similar concepts (e.g. space jokers, food jokers and the related decks, expect to add more)
- Reduce friction and improve functions (which I am attempting with manager)
