I agree Tags are great in concept, because breaking one of the normal roguelike gameplay cycles for a risk is very cool and can add a lot of tension to a run while being an experience not offered in other games. That being said, breaking a normal roguelike cycle is also one of the reasons why designing and polishing such a system is really difficult - there are no already established conventions we can follow, even loosely, because we've seen them work in other games.

Here's what you have to take into account with this skip tag system:

You are missing a shop.

No Jokers to improve your build.
No packs, which are already limited to 1 per round.
No more of the voucher you were offered if you skip Big Blind.
Less use of shop is less fun in the shop.

You are missing a round of play.

No money.
No scaling your jokers/deck.
Less rounds played is less fun in those rounds.

This is SO MUCH STUFF to lose in this system. A ridiculous amount. So much of the game revolves around going to the shop, and a decent amount from playing the rounds. Skip tags have to make up for ALL OF THIS somehow - and all of the things I miss out on are exactly what goes through my mind when evaluating whether I take them.

ive been thinking about which jokers that could be switched out for the public demo, and i have some candidates and arguments

Out

Business Card. We already have Reserved Parking for money from faces, and we had BC in the previous demo anyway
Trio/Order/Tribe. There's plenty of XMult in this version, and these are the least interesting, plus they take up three whole rare slots

In

Sock and Buskin. Face synergy to make the total face synergy jokers equal after Business Card is out, plus retriggers are just really fun
Satellite. There's very little celestial/planet synergy, so here's a cool candidate for one, plus a bit more synergy for Bull, which is niche
Bootstraps. A good +Mult scaling joker to go with all the XMult and economy jokers.
One more planet synergy card, but I'm not sure what for this one. Maybe the unrevealed spaceship joker lol

In this build, it's so hard to get Arcana Packs, Vagabond is actually very potent.

I haven't, I have only watched some videos. But was that difficulty issue related to the joker pool or to more general balance problems (access to tarot and planets, hardcounter bosses, ante scaling) ?

I never felt like that pool was too specific and lacked soft synergies, these jokers should provide a large set of solutions in any context. Things get more difficult when going for optimal highscore since the game isn't balanced around that.
