sometimes your discards are actually more valuable than your hands in terms of value generation and you prefer to play hands to dig through your deck to find the ones you want to discard, i.e. hit the road or rebate

other times theres ways of throwing cards from your hand that are optimal for drawing whatever hand type you need, like drawing for straights

Also some Jokers reward discards, some punish them. Green Joker scales well but you need to discard less to take full advantage.

It's just dependent on how well you are surviving the rounds

STS has relics, shops, secret rooms, a wide array of enemies with different characteristics, relics that drive your run like the jokers do, a wide range of cards and the ability to upgrade them once, and the benefit of killing enemies as opposed to making the Balatro bell go ding. At first it felt simplistic but as you progress it gets better and better. I think there are a lot of similarities but I'm not a deck game expert
