i thought it looked like a good base, so i put it in, scaled and rotated it

i then drew a rough outline, and i made the hilt pointier here

this served as a guide for the other layers

these layers went on first

added some basic colour

the blade was metal, and metal tends to have very "harsh" shadows, so i used two tones

i started with a plain colour, and gave it a mask so anything on top wouldn't spill onto the white margin

this layer here was the most time-consuming, i filled it with a slightly lighter colour, and iteratively scribbled on it with the eraser, then the brush

sorta creating a two-toned noise

then i drew a bunch of lighter circles

and added some crossing lines [one of my favourite patterns]

note that here, the crossed line layer's blending mode is Overlay, which sorta "overlays" the colour over the rest

it's worth playing around with the different blending modes to see how they work :D

the main ones i use are Normal, Overlay and Multiply

so there ya go! one Joker!

i applied the same process with the rest here, but:

• The Spear used a slightly different reference image, with the spiky bit being one piece

• The Fuse had no reference image, since i could draw it myself
