What are the best things to keep in mind when creating a joker?

there's a general level of darkness that balatro doesn't (usually) stray from

the black present in most jokers is about the darkest colors you're going to see in most jokers (akai will kill me for writing this)

other than that if youre lost a good place to start is to sample colors from existing jokers

i would say look at pins, specifically this message

i believe the exceptions to the rules are:
legendary jokers dont have the word “joker”
honestly most jokers dont use blue-red-orange, but i guess there are like hiker and like 2 other commons (but the colour representing mechanics rule is pretty significant)
the colour palette is really important to consider for making it look like its from the game, that said the colour palette is quite big and it seems like thunk does get a bit willy nilly sometimes so id say you can too so long as you try your best to make it feel like itd be part of the palette
ill leave others to talk about the “darkest colour is 4f6367” thing as it seems to be something of a controversial topic and im far from an expert
the cards that dont have the white border are almost always legendaries, or theyre supposed to represent some sort of different type of card/physical object (to do list, cartomancer, brainstorm, drivers license, trading card)
