Well, if we consider that the difference made by one's decision to either buy or pirate the game on the developers income varies wether its a big company or a small indie team, we must also take in account the fact that theres not only one person thinking that one single person not buying the game wont make a huge difference, so this aint a valid argument unless the said company/team is making huge amounts and that the difference will actually be negligible (if I was to take an example, pirating GTA V wouldn't be huge of a matter seeing the amount of sold copies across the world)

developers and artists at large game studios are usually paid for their time, not their work, so no matter how well a game does they are not going to be given any more money unless they are paid to work on another project

Oh yeah I had not read it the right way, indeed if the different ppl who made the game (illustrators in that case) are paid for their work time and not on the quality of their work, they arent affected by the game having success or not, but thats in the case of a big corporation such as Nintendo, in which case even if the artists were paid depending on the amount of copies sold, ppl pirating wouldn't make a huge difference as, still in the case of Nintendo, they're known everywhere on the globe and wont even see a tinny tiny difference, but as in the case of small indie games teams (i feel the need to precise small cuz some teams like Team cherry could be considered as the same case as big corporation seeing the numbers they make), whether them being a team or a solo dev, it really depends on the case. Like I said before, it depends on how the different persons who made the game are paid but it also mainly depends on whether the team has done this for the fun (and ppl in it actually have another activity/job for living) or if they're really depending on the income of their release
