I was just introducing someone to Bongo Cat and explaining what Bongo Cat was (they never heard of it) and I was literally saying,"AND THERE'S NO CHAT so you don't have to talk to anyone! They can keep you company in a lobby on your desktop screen but you don't have to talk to anyone IT'S GREAT" and then an hour later I sit down and see the notification that chat has been added to Bongo Cat. I jinked it so bad for myself. 😭

I'm probably the only person who didn't want chat in Bongo Cat haha. Don't mind me. I'm just laughing at me jinxing it for myself, I was just gushing to someone about how I like that it didn't have chat and then an hour later, it does now. lmaooooo I'm not truly upset, I just find it amusing at the timing and the person and I had a laugh about it. Still, I tend to be anti-social/socially phobic, never liked the idea of a chat feature. Oh well, maybe I can ignore it or turn it off idk. I'll try to be open minded about it.

I just bought a "chill on the desktop" type of game yesterday and launched it for the first time, it has newly added multiplayer where people's characters can chill on your screen and this other game has an option to censor bad language and also if someone tries to put contact details or urls it also censors it. It also had a whole Privacy Policy and Terms of Service saying that the chat logs might be saved for reporting or law reasons.

So maybe it could be possible somehow to add some kind of censor filter similar to that other game? (Not sure if I'm allowed to mention the name of the game) I don't know (I don't know anything about coding) just throwing something out there.

It's so funny because I usually buy games and either never play them or launch them months/years later lmao so out of the games I purchased I decided to check that Mini Cozy Room game out and I'm glad to see that noticing that (about the chat filter and terms the player had to agree on before joining a lobby with chat) about that game might be helpful for Bongo Cat in some way even if it's reaching out just to see. 😅

For those who may have missed it - several multiplayer options have been relocated from the Settings to the 4th tab (see the row of five icons at the top).

Leaderboard - Enable Auto-Hide - Receive Emojis - Receive Chats - Receive Popups

• Leaderboard - shows the click statistics of participants in this lobby since joining the lobby
• Enable Auto-Hide - hides all cats in this lobby (even if new ones join)
• Receive Emojis - to see the emojis of lobby participants
• Receive Chats - to see chat messages
• Receive Popups - to see chests and other participants opening them

This is set by the lobby host:
Lobby code/Invite - Public - Invite Only

• Lobby code/Invite (with ability to copy the lobby code and invite via Steam)
• Public (everyone can join through your Steam page, view, copy, and share the lobby code)

That's cool they added the auto-hide all cats, that was also a long requested feature many people wanted.

I liked when they introduced the "Random" lobby button during the April Fools event, glad they brought it back. Especially good for people to join lobbies without needing to rely on the discord lobby codes and maybe good for joining public lobbies of players outside the discord (like players from the steam forums or more global players).

Also, I normally don't care for leaderboards but I was surprised that I liked the leaderboard feature (when it was introduced during the April Fools event) I found myself keeping it open at times and just checking it to see who was more active in the lobby. So that's been a great feature as well.

I think in the Heart tab or one of the tabs there might be a banner for Typing Farmer you click on that will then show a pop up with a button that takes you to the steam page. I got the skin by clicking on the banner, even before I even wishlisted/followed. So try to look if there's a banner in Bongo Cat to click on from.

Nope, you only get one chest for each thing. Emojis are just for fun and fairly new so there hasnt really been much of an event thing with merging on them
So if you are low on tap points I would focus on the items over emojis

the code still works when ur on invite only thankfully so u don't need to send invites to all ur friends and ping them on steam every time steam does maintenance

Ah okay so I joined your lobby. It's set to LobbyCode/Invite. The game lets me click on the privacy button showing the 3 options but when I click another option (like Public or Invite-Only) it doesn't actually let me change the privacy setting for the lobby.

If its just your friends in the group can have the one with the crown leave, and rejoin with the code. Can do it until it lands back on you

Yeah, it was a bit confusing at first because anyone in the lobby can CLICK the button and the pop up with the 3 privacy options show up and highlight on mouse hover (being select-able) but actually clicking on them doesn't actually change the privacy setting. So yeah it just made me wonder if clicking on those options would actually change it or not.

I have the opposite problem. I DON'T want to be a lobby host but it happens like 99% of the time no matter what lobby I'm in. Even when there were people in the lobby longer than me or have higher click counts. Maybe the algorithm chooses the next lobby host by how long they've been playing (like Steam play time)? I don't know.

But no matter how small or big a lobby is, I always seem to end up becoming the next host. 🤣

I normally don't care for leaderboards (in any game) because to me it just seems completely useless since there are always cheaters or bots on the top leaderboards so I just never care at all and see it as useless.

Or if it's leaderboards in small games, it also seems useless to me if there's barely anyone on the leaderboard. (Like Audiosurf where there's leaderboards for specific songs but if a song is niche there's nobody on the leaderboard).

But I ACTUALLY LIKE the Bongo Cat leaderboard feature (to my surprise) because I actually like checking it once in a while out of curiosity just to see everyone's tap numbers. I like that the leaderboard is temporary and lobby-specific and not a global leaderboard. To me it's just something to check once in a while out of curiosity.

All it would achieve is make number go big, but there's no end goal to aspire towards. It was mostly a problem during cheatable events like Battle Royale and leaves an extremely bad impression. It's just an unspoken rule to not interact with people who partake or give info out of respect for the devs

Yeah exactly. The fact that it's real people tapping in real-time feels different than something automated. Like you said, if I wanted automated cats on my screen I would just play any of the countless other offline desktop pet games....which I was doing before the Bongo Cat multiplayer update. It feels different.

Using Tiny Pastures as an example, it's cute having the animals running around on my screen (man, I have sooo many of these types of games lol) but since the Bongo Cat multiplayer update (and other similar games also adding their own lobby function) it's extra nice to have that human company.

And like I said in my previous post, I guess when it's obvious someone is using an auto-clicker, it makes me feel like I'm hanging out with a script/bot. I've been on many 24 hour lobbies (that last a week before steam maintenance kills the lobby) and I've seen some people have used an auto-clicker 24/7 for a week straight. lol

But like you said, the appeal of the multiplayer is to hang out with real people behind the cute character. There's a lot of offline desktop pet games that let you have cute animals on the screen but both experiences feel different.

Found out the reason everyone was AFK was because the lobby died but it was still showing everyone's cats on screen (that has happened to me a few times in the past). Only noticed because I restarted the game and the lobby was dead. Usually when that happens, your own name won't show in the member list so I've gotten into the habit of checking if my name is still on the member list sometimes.

So just a reminder, if you see nobody tapping (and now, if everyone has ZZZ's on them) check the member list, if your name is not on there it means the lobby is dead (probably some Steam disconnect) but you're still seeing the cats on the screen.

The item ranks are not about how they look, it's about how rare they are to get, legendaries being the hardest to get. Those event items are legendary because they were limited-time only items and now they are harder to get.

But I also understand what you said about the limited time/giveaway/event freebies possibly having a different ranking all their own, like a different color border around them probably, that would make sense.

Everyone can get them tho. You just had to be on at some point because it wasn’t tied to one specific day so it’s not rare and not every single free cosmetic needs to be legendary. Most people would be happy to add a free uncommon or rare and maybe if you logged in every day then earning an actual legendary would feel like something but just handing them out like candy ruins the idea of a “legendary”

I think items that are tradable but not marketable are harder to find, because now you have to find someone with that item and give them items they'll actually want.

This is another example that it's not about how it looks. Take the competition reward, it's "just glasses" (visually) so it might not look "legendary" to you but there's only 3 in existence so far. Good luck finding it. So again, the ranking of items it's more about how harder it is to find. Even the permanent legendary items have a very low chance of dropping from the chest (1 in 500000).

I’ve been playing bongo cat for a while and I finally got a legendary and I’m happy with it but it just feels like less of an accomplishment when everything else I have to pick Thru on the same level is just a slightly reskinned rare or uncommon with 2 more details. It’s kinda like inflation, the more legendary you print out, the less value you get from them.

In another Bongo Cat-like game I play, it lets the player exchange 5 legendaries (in that game it's 5 instead of 10) to get 1 legendary. I never tried exchanging legendaries in Bongo Cat so I don't know if it lets you exchange 10 legendaries to get 1 different legendary but I guess if that's not in the game, it probably wouldn't be too difficult to add.

Also like someone else said, a lot of the limited-time event sort of items are still tradeable so if you're willing to find people to trade the items you don't want with ones you do want with other people through Steam (there's the #1485938131281645669 here ) there's that option too.
But I also understand some people might not want to use the Steam trading (I don't lol, I did too much trading in a mobile game years ago and that exhausted me, I don't want to bother in this one lol).

A lot of people easily miss those Holiday/Limited time event sort of items so they are often sought after by people.

It’s not about the item being limited. Limited is good and yes it’s easy to get them you just need to be on but just because I claimed a box 6 months ago and got a common spring time skin and now it’s worth $100(hypothetical) doesn’t mean it should be a legendary now. It’s still a common and it’s rare. If they balanced the skins out evenly and had a better separation between slop holiday free legendary and actually earned ones that are genuinely worth the title then the game would be so much more rewarding.

Personally I think it's a great trade in your favor. Fireworks while consumable are fairly easy to come across whereas that trade has a few even exclusives/*9

I wouldn’t count emojis at all - only skins/hats. That means you’re getting 9 items, 3 of which are event ones, so you can treat each of those as equal to 3 non-event items. Overall, you can estimate it like this: you’re being offered 15 rare cosmetics.

For the future, it’s worth coming up with your own formula - like how many fireworks equal one blue item. So it sounds cleaner, for example: 15 rare cosmetics = 15×50 (750) fireworks, and then just stick to your formula.

I think I just don't know to attribute the value for things, and regarding the items consumables vs cosmetics I think my brain just attributes the temporary nature in a sort of "I have to hoard this, and not let it run out" type of way

Hmm, I think I might go for it. I was also thinking like "maybe I could sell some for some couple of bucks?" But then I realised 1.5k fireworks is basically more than I will ever use maybe? My autism could very well be adding onto the attachment to temporary things

I also think there is more "longevity" in a skin/hat vs the fireworks. While they are consumable and therefore will eventually deplete as people use them, that means over time they will be used less and less frequently out of fear of them running out. It'll come to a point where it sits in your inventory untouched because you don't want to waste them whereas a wearable can be pulled out at any time at your leisure
