Do you also experience immense lags when playing hades 2 with mouse and keyboard if bongocat is active?
Every keystroke dramatically lowers the FPS making hades 2 unplayable while bongocat is running. FPS drop from 160 to 70 fps on repeated keystrokes

I also notices that dragging any window while bongocat is active, will briefly result in lag spikes

At the beginning of moving a window, it will stutter and behave like the screen is set to 60 fps

Yeah, in the settings, there's a "Danger Zone" settings that gives the option to permanently delete items (or the option to delete your ENTIRE collection) so you have to be very careful (that's why it's hidden and you have to click on it to show the delete options).

I've never tried it and never will LOL so I can't help with that but the option does exist.

UPD. The devs are removing Emojis from the drop pool, so your chests and exchanges will only contain skins + hats again.

Hey there, I'm in a multiplayer lobby and my username isn't displaying how I want it to. It's displaying under the name I had when originally joined Steam. Though, earlier today, I had went to my Steam profile's settings and changed both my profile name & real name to be the name I want it to display, but it's still displaying the old name.

im just a user and havent tested this, i believe it does the following:

• nickname first (if your friends have set a nickname for you)
• if no nickname, it should get your "profile name".

I could be wrong though.
Check if your friend(s) are using a nickname for you.
Also if you changed it during session you have to rejoin the lobby (the others may even need to restart app if that doesnt work)

So I don't really know much about this game (despite how much I have used it), is it one dev, or a team of them? Is the information about how the game was written semi-public? I kinda am interested in learning how the team took this single-player program and made it multi-player, if that information is willing to be shared, does anyone know anything?

i can help with that as a software/game engineer myself. i get the vibe that it was 1 person that did the coding and paid for art, but i cant say.
the engine he used was Unity. the language is C#. the networking is Steamworks.

Unity is made for games, but you can do app related stuff too, such as click through and transparent background. also he used some windows specific API too (which is a bit more technical)

all this is possible with searching internet and most definitely using AI

if you'd like, i can help with getting started. i recommend Godot over Unity as it has more potential, open source and beginner friendly, but Unity is far more advanced atm and has a way bigger community

i used Unity for years and switched over to Godot, no desire to switch back

also a disclaimer:
dont do multiplayer as a first project. its a recipe for disaster.
start small, start simple, keep a small scope.

you can find fellow people learning game dev in twitch too, i think its a great way to make connections and keep the passion going if you struggle with learning code

i havent used Steamworks myself, so i can only give general theory:

• No dedicated servers
• Peer 2 Peer connection and matchmaking (each client talks to every other client instead of directly to a game server)
• Steam handles the inventory/user database

So in general its a lot cheaper, i assume just paying for the license to publish on steam. I could be wrong about some things.

Ah, honestly that makes a lot of sense! What the game needs to do would absolutely be fine on just p2p, and not having to deal with a dedicated server would reduce that complexity a lot lolol, and ofc the cost.

Also I love how Steam steps in for stuff like managing the database? They also helped out with errors on the recent update, which is cool to see! Seems like the developer has been smart and efficient with their stuff, I'm really impressed at how swiftly they have been doing this!

it can technically also be possible to do with "player hosted servers" which requires no cash and players can run the servers (like terraria)
problem is that if you want a database, matchmaking or firewall bypassing it will take more work and possibly cash.

this type of game could be purely a player hosted server without a database and without matchmaking, but players would need to give their IP to other players, and the equipment would be entirely locally (just like terraria), and could run into security and connection issues

definitely downsides, using steamwork solved a lot of issues

if im not mistaken. the cool thing is you just spend $100 one time fee per app, and you get to publish on steam and have access to steamworks. thats a great deal if you can make back that $100

i figured that there could be player servers like that, but i think for the amount of demand this game has, it doesn't need to happen that way, especially considering what you said. Compared to terraria, where there are countless servers and players, using steamworks seems like a smart idea.

Plus, with p2p networking, i believe it's a lot easier to have scalability, where the network can easily handle the load without additional server resources as a main server would need. Useful for the massive lobbies everyone is making (which is really cool to see)!

we only use the steam networking layer, this is a simple "P2P" style system
but it routes everything through the steam servers, so we don't have to care about firewalls

our costs are 0 steam probably has some costs 😂
