there is but the hassle isn't worth it tbh.

it's always "worth it" to bring your average itmlvl down to scale the mobs to your level without the un-upgradable stuff dragging the overall level down.

but you need the higher itmlvl to get invited into groups.

Classic is a lot "grindier" and slow paced but allows you to take time and enjoy your experience as you level

Retail is a lot faster paced and the classes are a lot more fleshed out - retail focusses more on endgame content but the journey to get there is also a good learning experience

The "server" could also be something like your android phone btw.

Gotcha. Ok, here's another tougher one. I went through ragefire chasm solo with my shaman. No issue... died to dogs a few times, but really blasted through. I am assuming that's because I took the "gearup" offer the game put on my login when I logged in a few days ago.

Is there a healthy amount of soloable content that offers an ok challenge for the solo player... or will I need a specific build for that type of play?

Dungeons are not solo content

Dungeons are meant to be group content, when that dungeon is one that scales to the relevant level of the player

There are many quests, activities, events, scenarios, and more that can be played solo. At endgame in current expansion content there are also Follower Dungeons, where you can solo queue for a dungeon group with a party made up of NPCs to practice or experience a dungeon solo

WoW, being an MMO, is of course best experienced with multiple players and designed as such however. I would strongly recommend joining a guild or community once you do decide to play

Not that you can't play solo, but don't expect the game to be a full single-player experience

My best advice is to let the game hold your hand and take you to the content where you're recommended to play. It's one of the best ways to learn

When I say "afford" I literally mean the definition of afford as in you have enough money to pay for it. WoW is a subscription service. To play any version of the game you'll need an active subscription or buy gametime, and for Retail you'll always need to own the current expansion to level to max level and play current endgame content

Level one of each class to 20, trying out different combinations, until you have one of each and you feel like you've seen enough to decide to keep playing. Once you've decided you're in, either subscribe or get 60 days of gametime to start with, choosing one of those level 20 characters you've leveled to keep working with. Now that you've gotten a lot of the wasting time figuring out how and what to play figured out during your free Starter Account playtime, you can spend your paid time focusing on leveling the character you like the most. This character will be your "main" and the others will serve as your "alts" for later on, already figured out so you don't have to worry about later. Once your main is level 60, and you've decided you want to keep playing Retail instead of one of the Classic versions (I don't recommend this if you're new to WoW, you'll just end up hating WoW), buy the pre-order for The War Within. Keep playing your main, leveling 60-70 in Dragonflight, and taking your time to explore the content and learn to play the game. A lot of the gameplay design currently in Dragonflight is going to carry forward in the next three expansions than anything pre-Dragonflight. Once your main is level 70, you've caught up with Dragonflight content and know what you're doing and you're not worried about falling behind in progression, level your alts so that they're ready for The War Within--as they'll need to be level 70 before they can start the new expansion once it comes out.

Hi, i have only played wow once and that was years ago on a free account which got me to a certain stage, since then i have played BDO and GW2 but it has been a long time since even playing them to a proper degree(at least 2 years). One of my timerunners fell through the world in a scenario and disconnected. I can't log back into her because it shows her falling for a split-second and then disconnects again. I can't log into the website for some reason (as soon as I hit Approve on my authenticator app, it reverts to the username/password login screen). If you're on a mage and you know a group will come no matter what, sheep one before attacking anything else, then Frost Nova the rest (once they've moved enough to where the Frost Nova won't affect the sheeped enemy), then pick off the Nova'd enemies one by one or take them all down with Blizzard. Keep distance between you and your enemies to give yourself casting time. Blink to assist with that and keep your shield up

Your best bet is to peruse the achievement window, as anything POI-related will most likely be part of an achievement. As for finding every last little thing, grab HandyNotes from Curseforge, then a HandyNotes_[name of expansion] sub-addon to show stuff on the map

you can try to apply to heroics or mythic runs, just dont get ur hopes up as especially for mythic random groups will only want 476 or similar ilvs

heroics are alot more doable to get into even with low gear, just gotta hope the leader is generous

You don't need to start with anything. Try several different classes, see what clicks with you, then stick with that class. A rogue may have made sense to your ex-bf, but something else entirely different may makes sense to you

Battle pets are part of the collections tab (shift-P), they can only fight other battle pets. Hunter pets are entirely separate. Hunter pets are only available if you're playing a Hunter, in Beastmaster spec, to assist you when questing. How is ilvl calculated? Isn't it the total item level of everything you're wearing divided by number of slots? Because the lowest-level thing (other than my shirt and tabard) is 318, and manually doing the math gives me an ilvl of 342.73.

If you want something from a specific expansion crafting profession you'll still have to level that expansion's crafting. Lehrdaniel is right about the worth being relative--generally you only need stuff from current expansion content for the current expansion, but some profession items from old expansions can still be useful and wanted. Goblin Gliders from Draenor Engineering is one example, or wormhole generators to quickly navigate to different zones, or waterbreathing potions from Cata Alchemy
